Davis' catch puts Redskins ahead after 3 quarters

After giving up the lead late in the second quarter and going into halftime trailing by two, the Redskins came out in the third quarter and immediately jumped back on top.

Washington's defense held Philadelphia to a three-and-out, and Campbell - whose two picks cost the Redskins the leads before the half - redeemed himself with an impressive drive.

Campbell turned in two solid plays in which he improvised and found open receivers to move Washington down the field. After tight end Fred Davis broken several tackles and rumbled for a 29-yard gain down the right sideline, Campbell eluded a pass rush on third down, breaking away from the Eagles defensive linemen, and rolled left before finding Devin Thomas for a 35-yard pass.

Two short passes had the Redskins facing third-and-7 from the 10, but again Campbell avoided a rush, rolled right and found Davis inside to the left to give the Redskins the 21-16 lead.

The Eagles again went three and out, but a Redskins drive that at first showed promise also stalled and Washington punted to give Philadelphia the ball back with 2:25 left in the quarter. The Redskins defense held again and forced another punt, and with 1:30 remaining the Redskins took over. After a penalty wiped out a Jason Campbell run, Washington faced third-and-21 as the quarter expired.

Don't make this pick be for naught. Score a TD here offense!

Oh no. Here we go again. Playing conservatively in the 4th quarter and burning time outs. Didn't we learn from the last game?!!!

Posted by: Thundershock | November 29, 2009 3:33 PM | Report abuse

And we waste another timeout.....cause we haven't needed those late in games....its like watching a broken record with these guys...

Posted by: zjfr2 | November 29, 2009 3:34 PM | Report abuse

can you imagine this season with even a semi-effective offense? what a waste of a defense and a wide open NFC.

Posted by: chrislarry | November 29, 2009 3:34 PM | Report abuse

Almost didn't recognize our team, but then they called a TO early in the fourth. There they are!

Posted by: RomoLongballs | November 29, 2009 3:34 PM | Report abuse

F zorn! get that guy out of the rotation.

Posted by: Curzon417 | November 29, 2009 3:35 PM | Report abuse

and once again, waste a timeout to do absolutely nothing.

Posted by: zjfr2 | November 29, 2009 3:35 PM | Report abuse

Hopefully, we continue to attack on defense

Posted by: Thundershock | November 29, 2009 3:47 PM | Report abuse

thing is...if you're Dan Snyder, what did Zorn do wrong in this game for you to fire him? he doesn't call plays, he hasn't made any "bad" decisions today, so i don't see a firing coming up for this game.

Posted by: kman2 | November 29, 2009 3:52 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: sugarstreet | November 29, 2009 3:47 PM

Get serious. Snyder knows that there is nothing to be gained by firing Zorn in the 12th week of the season. He's written off this season. The final straw was several weeks ago.

Posted by: League-Source | November 29, 2009 3:52 PM | Report abuse

It's yet another opportunity for Campbell to put the team on his back and lead them down for a TD.

Will he finally do it?

Posted by: MrRedskin21 | November 29, 2009 3:53 PM | Report abuse

A team that has nothing to lose doesnt go for a touchdown from the 10 yard line. I cannot wait until this coach is LONG GONE. Should have beat the Cowboys but he played like a wuss. Now he will lose to the Eagles playing like a coward. Tell this FOOL it's GOLD not YELLOW on the jersey.

Posted by: Mike4169 | November 29, 2009 3:53 PM | Report abuse

This is where JC leads the offense down the field for victory. Too bad he doesn't have a running game to back him up.

Posted by: Alan4 | November 29, 2009 3:53 PM | Report abuse

I know we don't have AH or DHall, but they don't have Westbrook or Jackson and we let them go all the way down the field and score and tie the game up. Unbelievable.

Guys, let's give them some credit. It's gotta be damn near impossible to choke this many times over the past 26 games. Impressive streak, hopefully more gagging to come next week against the Saints...

next week at 3-8, the skins will play the same way...conservative. Throwing screen passes on 3rd and 15

Should have been three wins in a row and back in the playoff picture but a coward of a coaching staff fails the team yet again.

Posted by: Mike4169

Yeah, the cowards on the coaching staff missed two open seam routes, that would have put the game away an hour ago. Campbell simply cannot deliver in close games...he just doesn't and that is the way it has always been!

Posted by: TheDirtySanchez | November 29, 2009 4:09 PM | Report abuse

Well we will get the ball with zero timeouts...

Posted by: chrislarry | November 29, 2009 4:09 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: sugarstreet | November 29, 2009 4:09 PM | Report abuse

Now we can expect JC to throw an interception or get sacked to end the game.

Posted by: Thundershock | November 29, 2009 4:10 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: mattylight | November 29, 2009 4:10 PM | Report abuse

Dan Synder deserves exactly what he is getting this season for not hiring a Football guy to manage the Redskins and just going back to being fan #1.

If that does not change after this season ends, then it will be more of the same regardless of who they hire as HC.

Posted by: Realness1 | November 29, 2009 4:20 PM | Report abuse

This is exactly what happens when you play "not to lose the game." The playcalling in the red zone after Tryon's pick was too conservative and that turned the entire game around. They couldn't put it away when they had a chance to. Whatever happened to "you play to win the game?" It's ridiculous. You need to put the game away when you can, instead the playcalling there opened the door for the Eagles and they took advantage of it.

Posted by: rachel216 | November 29, 2009 4:22 PM | Report abuse

well, i like what happened today. losses are what we WANT. a win today would not have changed anything, unless you could reverse the outcome of the Det, KC, Car, and Dal games. anyone who hopes for this team to go 5-11 or 6-10 with a late-season burst is not hoping for the best for the franchise. worse draft pick, more wins for Vinny's case to stay on the Front Office--all are things that will not help this team in the future. i want 3-13. i want those 2 home primetime games in december to be anti-climatic...I WANT ROCK BOTTOM. only thing that would have been better today would be for us to lose 49-0. in fact, losing by giving up 11 unanswered 4th quarter points might be the worst way to lose if you're a Redskins fan.

5-14 in the last 18... yeah, Campbell is the answer... The excuses around the losses change by the week, but the QB doesn't.

My dream:

They can Vinny tonight so we can actually root for some late season upsets with the knowledge that Ceratto is gone-o.

Mason 1 F'n carry F Zorn, the one they called back because of a penlaty went for 15 yards, then they never played him again, stupid stupid stupid !

well, i like what happened today. losses are what we WANT. a win today would not have changed anything, unless you could reverse the outcome of the Det, KC, Car, and Dal games. anyone who hopes for this team to go 5-11 or 6-10 with a late-season burst is not hoping for the best for the franchise. worse draft pick, more wins for Vinny's case to stay on the Front Office--all are things that will not help this team in the future. i want 3-13. i want those 2 home primetime games in december to be anti-climatic...I WANT ROCK BOTTOM. only thing that would have been better today would be for us to lose 49-0. in fact, losing by giving up 11 unanswered 4th quarter points might be the worst way to lose if you're a Redskins fan.
CHEERS, and HTTR for next season.

I hope no one in this world depends on you for anything. You are the worst fan ever!

Relax, DC is 3-8....

Also, Thomas and Kelly are not busts. Jim Zorn was holding them back the entire time and now we see they are actually capable of making plays.

JC is always going to be a QB that doesn't lose it for you or win it for you. The two picks were horrible and he missed some recievers today. But he also had some plays that he made with his legs.

Skins win--with JC at QB--when we have a running game. This team hasn't had a consistent running game since midpoint last season.

If Zorn is calling plays in the last 2 mns as he claims, he needs to stop that too b/c the offensive plays are better without his interference.
Then again, it is not like JC has ever engineered a successful comeback in his career to begin with.
By show of hands, how many of us here truly expected the Skins to come back after the Eagles tied the game (rather easily too I might add)?
Finally, if you guys don't know about soccer (futbol), I hope for your sake you watched EL CLASSICO between the two best players in the world (Ronaldo vs Messi) as Barcelona beat Real Madrid today. There is no modern day rivalry in soccer today better than those two teams. The level of soccer is the best bar none. Even better than the upcoming World Cup.
My Sunday wasn't a total waste after all as Barcelona FC beat Real Madrid.

Keep in mind Vinny said Zorn was provided a playoff team roster.

Must go:
Portis
Campbell
Vinny
Samuels
R Thomas
ARE
C Rogers
T Collins
P Daniels
M Sellers
F Smoot
R Wynn
Todd Yoder

3-9
Let the rebuilding begin!

Spurrier's record in two years: 12 - 20
Zorn's record: 10 - 17

Zorn has to win three of the next five games to do better than Spurrier. I don't think he can win another game with the Redskins.

So JC gives us 3 TDs this game, the running game does nothing and you guys hang it on JC? You guys are just as delusional as Dan Snyder. We aren't winning anything without a line and a run game. You add a competent run game and that's at least a 7 point swing in the final score. We win this game if we had a run game.

Posted by: PAskinsfan17 | November 29, 2009 4:33 PM | Report abuse

Yeah and those two picks by Asante Samuel were on Dan Synder and the line. Yes, I know Campbell was feeling the heat, but those two picks made a difference. They got six points and won by three. Who cares, JC won't be back next year anyway.

Obviously the game turnred on the conservative play calling after the Tryon pick too conservative did they not learn anything from last week, that being said the defense allowed the Eagles to drive 90 yards and convert a two point score to tie the ball game and the 100 million man did not show up a DNP what the hell was his problem this week i bet he has no trouble getting to the dinner table shamefull absolutely, positively shamefull.

skins need to lose all their remaining games for this season to have any value - we can select pretty high in the draft with only 3 wins, hopefully the lions and chiefs manage to win 3 so we can jump ahead of them
