Decision near on Cooley; Portis out Sunday

A decision is near on whether to place tight end Chris Cooley on the season-ending injured-reserve list and running back Clinton Portis will not play Sunday against New Orleans, Coach Jim Zorn said in his 12:25 comments to reporters at Redskins Park.

Zorn did not come out and say that Cooley was headed to the IR, but admitted "I'm thinking in that direction." Cooley had not arrived at the park at that point and Zorn added that the two will meet today: "We're going to have a conversation and a plan for what's to come. ... I want to work out in my mind the right way to do it."

Portis, who suffered a concussion Nov. 8, "will have another exam Monday after our game against New Orleans. He may practice some this week, but he'll be out [Sunday]."

As for the ailing DBs, Zorn said that DeAngelo Hall would be questionable Sunday. "We'll try to work him back." Fred Smoot came out of the game in Philadelphia "pretty good. I think he got dinged. We did al the impact tests and all that. I don't have the results of the concussion tests yet."

Albert Haynesworth will be working back into practice this week. "He's still going to work on getting his strength so he can make those lateral moves."

Zorn added that quarterback Jason Campbell is fine and has no concussion symptoms.

At this point, is there anyone out there who isn't convinced that the REdskins are a better team WITHOUT Portis. Apparently being in shape and practicing with your teammates is important - who would have thunk?

Are you kidding me? Another ACL tear? I actually thought Jarmon was a great pickup in the supplemental draft.... Here's to a speedy recovery!

Totally disagree. Maybe better without an injured Portis but a healthy one? I want him back healthy.

Portis sucks.

I keep hoping that he retires so Snyder won't have a reason to keep him on the team.

You men his "fateral" moves. ;)

"Portis sucks."

I guess CP being the best blocking RB in football and a Pro Bowler last year validates your statement.

Again, when healthy, he by FAR the best back on the team and one of the best in the league. We do need more speed at the position though.

Portis hasn't been the same since he put that S-curl in his hair this season. Time for big money, don't want to practice, Portis to go. He may as well sit out the rest of the season too. That's what he wants anyway.

Why does JZ continue to hold roster spots for people who should just be IR'd and put away for the rest of the season?

It has been three weeks and counting on CP26 and his dubious so called injury, and even longer for Cooley and his bonafide break.

Even if Cooley and Tortoise were able to make it back for the last two or three games, how much could anyone reasonably expect from them? IR them already and get someone in there who is able and willing to practice and play.

um, yes, me. we're 1-2 without him and learned that Betts' career is most likely over. apparently being in shape and practicing didn't do a thing for Betts. drinking too much, not practicing, and having just a few teammates as friends worked for Riggo.

It would be nice to get some guys back just to keep the other guys, like JC, healthy.

we need all the help we can get just to make it through without any more catastrophies.
