Defensive lineman Kedric Golston signs new contract with Redskins

Steady defensive lineman Kedric Golston has signed a new contract with the Redskins, the team announced Friday morning. Contract terms were not released.

In four seasons, Golston, 26, has appeared in 60 games, including 30 starts. A sixth-round pick (196th overall) in 2006 draft, Golston has been credited with 164 tackles, including 101 solo unassisted. He also has totaled 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and six passes defensed.

Last season, Golston, listed at 6 feet 4 and 300 pounds, was among Washington's most dependable interior lineman. He appeared in 16 games, including five starts and 50 tackles (31 unassisted). Golston also contributed two sacks, six tackles for loss, two passes defensed and one forced fumble.

Golston is expected to play nose tackle in the Redskins' 3-4 defense this season. He could become a full-time starter for the first time in his career.

He was a 6th round pick. It shows you the value that any pick can have, and how we need to accumulate picks, not trade them away.

So dude works hard and gets his payday.

That's just how it should be.

Maybe his low round draft sidekick A. Montgomery is watching this thinking, "And what about me?"

At this time, by my count that four players, not including Haynesworth who asa you know the Skins are shopping, that could rotate in at NT. Not bad.

With all these younger DL guys we are signing, we should have a good rotation going on. Anyone know if Jarmon is slated to play LB in the 3-4 or will he stick at end?

RI,

Please for the sake of what's shaping up to be a beautiful Friday, let's keep the politics out of the convo. Everyone here has an opinion on politics and all that sh*t does is piss everyone off who doesn't share the same views.

Besides, we don't need politics for that, that's what the Redskins are for.

I'm just asking, just suggesting, after all...

It happens all the time no matter who's running the show. And the government doesn't care if your "finances are in order" they want your tax bill. Who care what you owe the cable company? Not to cast insults back, but taking a political shot (at either party) over something like this demonstrates complete ignorance.

Posted by: mack1 | April 16, 2010 8:37 AM | Report abuse

good new thread so this is the last thing I'll say on this can o' worms. I didn't take a shot at a specific party but let's be real. The Dems controlling this congress don't want us to see their outrageous spending plans and deficits before the elections. Can of worms ripped open but I'll let y'all have the final words.

***political post over***

Good for us, I like Kedric. He's been pretty solid for us.

The rams actually should take Okung and another lineman over Bradford.

Posted by: MistaMoe | April 16, 2010 8:30 AM | Report abuse

The Rams need to keep Alex Barron on the right side where he belongs and just let Jason Smith play on the left where he belongs. I understand playing a left tackle on the right to get his feet wet but typically you do that when you still have a left tackle. Moving your right tackle to left and starting your rookie left tackle on the right seems like it would end up doing more harm than good. I think they can take Bradford but they will need to take an interior linemen in the second and sign an old vet to take a pounding for a year or two.

Some of their outrageous spending is for the two wars started by a repub prez who, with a repub run congress, cut taxes at the same time.

Please don't traffic the notion that things that last gang running things stopped once the new guy took office.

And if things do improve--which they will by the Fall of 2012--please feel free to give the new guy credit.

Gee, JReid. Whatever do you mean by this statement? Could it be that you are suggesting that AH is NOT going to be the full-time starter at NT. Why oh why would you venture to make such a thinly-veiled suggestion.

Seriously, though, at 300 pounds Kedric Golston is a 3-4 DE. I like his work effort and attitude, and he's overacheived in his career for being a 6th round pick, but does anyone really envision Golston taking on double-teams up the middle and plugging up plays?

AZ is in need of a QB to stay in contention after Warner's retirement and the Steelers would love to get Ben as far away from Pittsburgh as possible (different conference, too). Based on what I heard in the DA statement, the dude seemed like he desperately wanted to file some charges and absolutely believes something criminal took place.

But he was forced to acknowledge - based on the available evidence - that something criminal would have been unprovable. It would boil down to he said-she said.

The DA did not want to pull a Mike Nifong and for that I respect him.

From the report

When Lubatti later spotted her friend, the alleged victim said, "We need to go now." Lubatti said the woman told her that Roethlisberger "walked back to where she was with his penis already out of his pants. She told him that they shouldn't be doing this and that it wasn't right." The woman told Lubatti that Roethlisberger had followed her into the bathroom and shut the door. "She continued to say she didn't want to have sex, but he kept saying, "No, it's OK." Lubatti said that her friend told of having unprotected sex with Roethlisberger. After hearing her friend's account, Lubatti and another woman, Nicole Biancofiore, "walked up to the first cop we saw and told them what happened."

The whole thing with the bodyguards blocking her friends from getting to her is really damning, if you ask me. At least two of her friends backed that part up, so I tend to think that's true.

The cop she reported it to wasn't much better apparently...check this out:

"We have a problem. This drunken b*tch, drunk off her ass, is accusing Ben of rape," Officer Barravecchio said Sgt. Blash told him. "This pisses me off. Women can do this. It's[bull] but we've got to do this, we've got to do a report. This is BS. She's making [stuff] up."

Ms. Biancofiore said at first it seemed as if Sgt. Blash was not going to file a report. She told investigators that Sgt. Blash said he would, but also noted that Mr. Roethlisberger has wealth, has access to lawyers and that they would be wasting their time."

Wow. Just wow...

Posted by: FedorEm | April 16, 2010 8:51 AM

Strangely, the team plans to use J. Jarmin and L. Alexander at linebacker. Both are on the heavy side of being a tweener but the team could pull it off if they limit them in pass coverage. Alexander seems able to contribute no matter where they put him, but this one may be a stretch for a guy who has been the team's "one man gang". Jarmin is coming off an injury and is still pretty green. I don't think he was ever viewed as a tweener, so the move is as interesting as the Alexander move.

Wow. Just wow...

How is it that Rothlisberger is able to get off on RAPING two different young girls yet a G. Arenas or P. Burress goes to federal prison for carrying a fire arm?
Can you imagine the rape charge not being pursued if it were say Santonio Holmes being charged with raping a young white girl? "Yeah we found lacerations and bruises and some bleeding from between her legs but...there's just not enough to even TRY to bring a charge. You can go Santonio."
And I don't want to hear any more sportswriters giving Rothlisberger any more advice on how he needs to not "put himself in this situation again" - that situation being sadistically raping another young girl.
Where's the great moralizing finger wagger Chritine Brennen's article castigating our culture for letting a 2 time rapist go? She only wrote about 500 articles about that awful, despicable Tiger Woods and his shocking philandering.
Finally, where were you 2nd Amendment zealots when Gilbert and Plaxico needed you?? Your silence was DEAFENING. The guns in both cases were registered in their home states (yet they made the foolish errors to bring them into "no 2nd amendment zones" in NYC and DC.)
Right to bear arms anyone? Tea baggers? Are you out there? What, you don't do black?
Now, imagine if it was say...Steve Nash or (even better) Dale Earnhart Jr. busted for carrying a gun and they repied that they just had it to defend themselves and their families. Can you imagine the uproar from the guns rights folks? Please.

I'd like to see some of you concerned citizens who went and protested against M. Vick outside the stadium last year to be out front of Heinze Field on opening day in Pittsburgh - protesting the NFL for allowing a twice accused rapist to play football there for millions of dollars.

So that we can swap out Albert Haynesworth for 2 more Kedric Golston's?? Can you explain to me how that makes our roster better?

Posted by: p1funk | April 16, 2010 9:13 AM |

From a talent standpoint, it doesn't. Nobody would argue that it does. From a teambuilding and discipline standpoint, ridding yourself of selfish distractions like Haynesworth is addition by subtraction. Hopefully, the new regime will be successful and in place long after Albert has retired and set about to eating himself to death. Shanahan can't let Haynesworth undermind him before he's even out of the gate. Haynesworth might not have like Blache or his system, but the undisciplined atmosphere around the Redskins suited him perfectly. The perfect place for a guy that just got paid to coast. Changing that environment is essential. Sending Albert (and his fat suit) packing, while painful in the short term, is what's best for becoming a winner again. Perhaps having paid $32 mil. to a guy for 12 games will solidify forever in Snyder's mind how wacko the old way of doing business was and close that door forever.

Of course, the best case scenario would still be for someone in the new regime
to convince Haynesworth that they don't want to waste his talents and that the best thing for him, and everybody, is for him to dedicate himself completely to being the football-playing Jesse he can be, and enjoying being a big part of a great defense and a WINNING team here in DC. Do the "Hayney" defenders/hopefuls REALLY think he will do that? Isn't it more likely that he will be a sullen, disgruntled distraction who tries to get by with doing as little as possible in the way of conditioning? Can you blame Shanahan if he thinks this will work against him?

This jabber about DT/NT/ILB/OLB/DE (the 7 of the 4-3/3-4) makes me have some new thoughts about what the Shanallen rebuilding project might be shaping up to be.

Over the past decade or so, the Skins' roster salary-wise has been top-heavy on starters with cheap (cheap) depth (and it has cost the team dearly when starters get hurt). I'm sensing that the Shahallenslett experiment might think you need 53 guys to have a football team, instead of 22 + 3 steamers ... and that any 53 guys who are good enough to make a roster in the NFL should be ready, able, and competent to actually play in the NFL ... and that guys aren't "right tackles", they are "offensive linemen" ... and that, after a few years of drafting or picking up in free agency the kind of guys who are "really good football players" rather than "pass rushing 3-4 OLBs", they will end up with a solid, durable, and flexible enough roster to keep winning games through and including the post season.

Back to Big Ben (and whether a bucket of icy cold water thrown on that thing might have made his Little Ben slightly less big).

Dear Mistamoe,

Worse, I have serious reasons to believe my last kid really is my bestfriend's (he's white) as the little dude has his eyes, skin color, and general overall look. Whenever I ask the wife for a paternity test, she shouts in anger, "You ain't swabbin' me!"

And as for secretly hating your kids, I always felt private hate of your offspring was the essence of good parenting anyways.

They take the food you eat, need clothes, and you have to pretend you care about some hopeless drawing they say is you when it really looks like a stick with a bullet head.

I always encouraged mine to go play in the park on the days I knew child molesters had just been released from the county lock up.

I take mine to I95, throw a soccer ball into the middle of speeding traffic, and shout, "Go try and score a goal for daddy!!!"

Okay, get off your racial high-horse for a minute. Big Ben is certainly a scum-bag, but he's not getting prosecuted because, #1 the victim is an unreliable and uncooperative witness; #2 she's the only witness to the actual alleged event itself; #3 there's not enough DNA evidence to make a case; and #4, her attorney stated, in his letter to the DA (which I only read part of) stated, among other things, that the victim did not want to be subjected to the stress and intrusive scrutiny that this kind of trial would bring.

Plex, on the other hand - and incidentially, I agree with you that his crime was much less serious than what Ben was accused of, in a general sense - was the victim of the draconian firearm statutes in NYC. What happened to Plex would have happened to anyone.

The punishment handed to Gilbert Arenas, on the other hand, just about fit the crime.

And by the way, in this situation (unlike for many other RI topics), I actually somewhat know what I'm talking about.

The way this defense is being currently constructed, especially with the LB's, this is gonna be one slow azz unit on the field, and the LB's are going to get exposed time and time again in pass coverage. I've totally disagreed with the movement to a 3-4 from day one, and when it comes to being a GM Shanny doesn't impress. IF Carter and Rak are going to be the OLB's, you damn sure cant blitz them every down. They'll get exposed big time..

History shows that teams with top-10 picks fare better on the ground after drafting a running back than they do when drafting tackles.

Between 2000 and 2009, nine teams selected running backs in the first 10 picks of the NFL draft, while 14 teams picked tackles. The RB teams averaged 3.7 rushing yards per carry the year before the draft, a little lower than the 3.9 yards averaged by teams drafting tackles.

Not surprisingly, the influx of talent boosted the running game of both sets of teams -- but the RB teams saw better results.

Yeah, I agree, Arenas = dumba%s. And also, remember, Rogers charge is probably federal since he was in an airport, whereas Arenas ended up in violation of D.C. law, and federal charges can be a whole other level of bad if the U.S. Attorney's office decides to go after you. Look at what happened to Martha Stewart, for example. Rogers would be wise to quickly cut a deal.

OK. I've successfully been baited. Where to begin?

1) Selfish distraction ?? - If not coming to non-mandatory workouts is "selfish", then we need to add to that list guys like London Fletcher, Andre Carter, Laron Landry and ST21 when he was alive and well. All of these guys have missed voluntary workouts before, and a couple of them didn't even have the decency to return coaches phone calls. AH decided he was not going to come to a non-mandatory event and had the respect and decency to show up in person and talk to Shanny face-to-face about it. The distractions are coming from rumor-mongering muck-rakers like Jason LaCanfora and his local croney JReid who can't sit still for 15 minutes without producing some unsubstantiated report about how unhappy AH is, how disresepcted Shanny feels, how tense things are, and how AH is about to traded.

2) "Undermine Shanny??" - If Shanny's expectation is that he gets to dictate what the players do in their free time, then the problem is with Shanny and not the players. Gestapo crap like that does not "change a culture" for the better. When AH is around the organization and has to be at the Park, the organization should demand that he conduct himself professionally according to their wished and standards. In the offseason, not so. If your boss started demanding that you come in and work on the weekends for free, would you say not coming in is "undermining" him? I think not. AH has said flat-out that he will play where the coaches tell him to play. Period.

3) ""Do the Haney hopefuls think he'd dedicated to being part of a great defense and a winning team???"" - Absolutely I do. What about his play/performance last year suggests otherwise? He was one of the best DTs in the NFL and made his teammates better.

Everyone kills AH's conditiong. Fine. He's not Adrian Adonis in the gym. But you know what?

AH played MORE snaps last season than Cornelius Griffin, Shaun Rogers, Pat Williams and ProBowlers Haloti Ngata and Vince Wilfork.

AH had MORE tackles than Griffin, Golston and Ngata. He had the SAME number of tackles as ProBowler Jay Ratliff

AH was tied for FIRST place in the league among DTs for QB hits.

AH was tied for THIRD place in the league among DTs for sacks (4). More than ProBowlers Ngata and Wilfork. (By comparison, ProBowler Jay Ratliff had 6, and Kevin Williams had 5).

I could go on with the production stats/comparisons.

The bottom line is that AH was one of the BEST DTs in football last season.

Even if he's not in top condition, the reality is that 75% of AH is still better than the vast majority of DTs at 100%.

So until he does something truly insubordinate or truly disrespectful or is truly a distraction. I say you figure out how to live with him BECAUSE HE MAKES YOUR DEFENSE BETTER.

Not saying he didn't do it because we all pretty much know he's a scumbag (definitely not a coincidence this has happened twice now). However, the facts are the facts. Arenas/Plax - convicted. Also, investigators found 2 other men's semen in her upon examination- one of them that was not Kobe's, came AFTER she was alledgedly raped by Kobe.

Now, who goes and has sex just hours AFTER they had alledgedly been raped?

the case was dismissed.

Also: The girl in the latest Rothlisberg case doesn't want to press charges obviously because the lawyers have told her it would be:

A) Tough to get a conviction

B) Totally humiliating

C) Because they want a big civil suit payout for themselves.

as a side bar- The first big Ben accuser wants 100% of her civil trial money to go to a rape victims charity should she win. Her only other request is that Rothlisberger admit what he did to her.

My point is that the DA here didn't have enough evidence to make a case. All he had were a couple of tangential witnesses, which isn't enough. He wouldn't have had anyone or anything to suggest that an actual assault occured. Ben is really lucky.

Most DAs really do not have racial double standards. In my experience, they can sometimes be pressured by public opinion in a high profile case, but if anything that many times works against the high-profile defendant, not for such a defendant (i.e., Paris Hilton's DUI case - I'm not defending that tramp, but she was not treated harsher than a normal DUI defendant would have been, in my opinion). But it's rarely, if ever, a racially motivated prosecution.

The Kobe Bryant case was very similar to Ben's case. The DA's victim craters, Kobe admits to sexual intercourse but claims it was consentual, there's no other solid evidence and all of a sudden the case goes by-by.

Believe me, if Kobe's accuser would have been willing to testify and was halfway credible, the DA would have rolled the dice and gone to trial. The other facts about her past sexual history may not have even been admissible under Colorado law. Post-incident sex, maybe, but it certainly wouldn't have kept the case out of court if the victim was an otherwise credible witness.

On Big Ben's accuser, all of your points also apply to Kobe's accuser, who, incidentally, did settle a civil suit against Kobe for a sum that has never been disclosed (that I've ever seen, at least).

What a skins fan, thinks HTTR is for hater. Silly little troll. Yes, I am in fact a Hater...of racist P.O.S. such as yourself. You make a weak a$$ argument like that, I call you out, and I'm a hater? Biatch puhleease. All you had to do was make a more relative comparison like Big Ben's rape case and Kobe's rape case, and how Ben got off while they threw the book at Kobe...oh wait. That's a bad example, neither got convicted for raping a white girl so I guess that one doesn't fit your racist agenda.

The simple truth is that you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem - please do not reproduce and further infect the world's gene pool.

From ESPN..

Shefter says he has learned the behavior of Roethlisberger and former-Pittsburgh receiver Santonio Holmes will lead to a fine of about $200,000 for the team. The ESPN report says the fine won't be levied until after NFL commissioner Roger Goodell decides whether to punish Roethlisberger for the behavior that led to an accusation -- but no charges -- of sexual assault.

The fine will be part of Goodell's effort to re-emphasize the importance and possible consequences of the league's conduct policy, Schefter says.
=======================================================================================

In my opinion ..

Goodall should recuse himself from this process and bring in NFL counsel for these expected hearings/meetings with the Rooneys and Ben..
Rooney was on the initial five owner search committee that recommended Goodall as the new NFL commissioner and thus a not too shabby paycheck of 8 Mil a year.

stop the bull-sh-t roethlisberger did not get away with a rape because the girl was drunk he got away with the rape because he is white and rich, according to the luciferian so-called law enforcement officials he really did not do any thing because many of us klansmens down here in georgia have been doing this for years raping black women at will it is our right and duty. I expect the nfl and other demons will give roethlisberger a award, like I have said before milledgeville ga and ALL OF GEORGIA and the south(north also) is the home of the kkk and other monsters every thing there is controlled by the klan I don't care what kind of negro" official they prop up there to pretend "they have changed" there is NO changing in any of them.

conclusions so far today...

Anchorman was a pretty funny flick
legal system is racist (or not)
RI comments are racist (or not)
Big Ben is a slime bag regardless

a refreshing change of pace for those who were tired of discussing the 'skins.

"Goodell decides whether to punish Roethlisberger for the behavior that led to an accusation -- but no charges -- of sexual assault." - SkinsneedaGM

It sux that Big Ben escaped sexual assault charges in the face of an unreasonable doubt.

But apparently he could have been polishing his automatic weapon and smoking a joint, while buying drinks for under-aged women and no1-ahem Goodell- seems to care, much less notice.........

Surely the victim's intoxication level and age is enough evidence to pin on either Ben or the Nightclub and to warrant some form of justice other than a fine. I mean after all, if he doesn't get her drunk, her allegations/charges stick, right?

Who has the better celebrity sex tape?

a. Paris Hilton

b. Pam Anderson

c. Kim Kardashian

Moe goes with Hilton as any girl with the name of my favorite hook up hotel is fine with me.

Ben's as creepy as they get, girls alcohol, 2sides of the truth. How many times have you had a discussion with a girlfriend, wife females in general? I'm not defending ben. as far as I'm concerned his track record deserves a "guilty until proven innocent" but there is a lack of hard evidence that's why the gal had to drop the charges. Life's not fair and that goes for all races and sexes and animals.

Yes Hater- (I mean HTTR) you were ascribed the correct noman clature I see.

No! No racism exists in teabag land. Why do you types always get so hot and bothered at the mere suggestion of racism or an existing double standard??

Paris Hilton's sex tape was garbage.

I'd get more satisfaction at looking at the lingerie section of the Sears catalog than looking at her weak ass tape.

seriously though..
In these cases, usually a law enforcement agency puts the officer on paid admin leave till resolved or prosecuted.
Its a red flag that this guy is resigning. Whoever this girl's attorney is for the civil suit...he better keep tabs of this officer's whereabouts or subpoena him now.

Because "you types" only speak out against racism when it affects a "certain" group, but shut your pie-holes when it affects "other" groups who are victims of racism.

Be a little consistent and you'll be taken more seriously; from me at least.

Love the Ron BVurgundy quotes.

I had two t shirts made from snorg tees.

The first was San Diego, Which of course in German means a Whale Vagina - with a pic of Cali and an Icon form SD.

Then I got my wife a shirt that says

Tits McGee... she has yet to wear it.
