Donovan McNabb 'definitely felt comfortable' with new targets

With the Redskins still learning Coach Mike Shanahan's West Coast scheme, quarterback Donovan McNabb was eager to see how the first-team offense would execute its assignments in the preseason opener Friday night at FedEx Field.

McNabb was pleased with the unit's overall performance in a 42-17 rout of the Buffalo Bills. McNabb and wide receiver Anthony Armstrong teamed on a four-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, but a lot of what the offense did well went unnoticed.

"Definitely felt comfortable" with how assignments were performed, McNabb said. "That's something that we'll all continue to learn as we continue on with this. The one thing that I take pride in is all through the season, obviously during the week, is spending time with the receivers and throwing extra routes of practice, communicating. We go out before games and throw routes.

"We had all the receivers out there running routes and catching balls so that we will be on the same page during the games. That's something I think is key. That's something that as a quarterback, you really need pay attention to. That's when you see some of the guys before games, the Peyton Mannings, the Tom Bradys and all those guys who are going through the route tree with those guys. You get a great feel of when he's making his break or when he's coming out [of his route] or where he wants the ball."

Trent Williams looked alot bigger on television, and he was man-handling people.

Great draft pick.

McNabb-Love it

Yup, I was very impressed with our young LT, seems to have a bit of a mean streak in him which will be needed against the upcoming competition. Hope he has a very successful season.

How nice is it to score more than 13 points a game?

Heyer didn't look too bad either.

But yeah, TW looks like an All-Pro in the making.

Trent "Silverback" Williams, is huge!!! I like how he push Aaron Maybin around like a rag doll!!! he's gonna be a beast of a tackle! I think the Skins finally found a kick-punt return man in Banks! booyaaahh!

Malcolm Kelly is going to be released soon, too many young receivers with talent pushing him farther

Spurrier opened up his playbook to get 35. Yesterday was more about simple, consistent execution to get 42. Like the zone run blocking scheme; Lots of holes. Good call vicc. Nice to see better QB play. By the way, Soup went 3 & out twice in a row to start the game and was 1-6 at one point vs. Dal. Also saw the 'ol throw the deep ball leading the WR out of bounds down the right sideline as well as a deep ball down the left sideline that was a 50/50 ball. And the 5 yd pass on 3rd down when the team needs 7. And the middle blitz w/ sack instead of throwing quickly to check off right in front of him, 5 yards past the line of scrimmage. Soups's QB rating was 62.7. McNabb: 124, Rex: 122.5. Good start boys, keep improving! HTTR!

Heyer really was a pleasant surprise. Don't know if they coached him up or if he's just healthier this year. Hope he can continue to contribute because we'll need all able bodied O linemen through the regular season and, we hope, beyond.

P Reilly is a big find. always around the ball and will get much better as he gets pro coached up. AC better watch out for a job. trade him now for a forth or fifth rounder and let BA find another player.

Yeah it was just the Bills and Chan Gayboy looked clueless as usual. But it felt good to look good against a team you should look good against. Huge improvement over the Zorn scorn.
