McNabb takes snaps with starters at practice

Quarterback Donovan McNabb took snaps with the starters at practice Monday afternoon and showed no obvious signs that his ankle is still bothering him.

All of the Redskins players except for safety Kareem Moore (knee) were present during the portion of practice that's open to the media.

Defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth was not taking any snaps with the starters. As the team went through its nickel packages, it appeared that Haynesworth had been bumped from first to second string.

During the early portion of practice, linebacker Perry Riley appeared to be doing sidework.

Wrong. It was Mike Bologun. He's ours now and we're SB-bound!

If Albert would apply himself to practice in the system instead of his prima-donna attitude - he might find that he would be with the FIRST team!

Mcnab taking snaps is a good thing.

Posted by: mrhney03 | September 6, 2010 2:51 PM | Report abuse

All Fat Albert has to do to get into the team's good graces is to play one whole game without dogging it. It would help if he played the proper scheme and all as well. Saying its Shanahan's fault is silly. Just play hard according to the coaches instructions and everything is forgiven.

Glad McNabb is practicing, I'm still not happy to hear AH is not taking snaps with any of the first unit packages, let's drop this power play and lets get everybody, AH included prepared to kick the Cowbiches azz.

Come on AH, come on Shanny enough of this bullcrap, lets drop all of this drama and play some dam ball!!

"...Unfortunately, the Cowboys already had a year where everything went right -- last year (well, everything except field-goal kicking). And not is it very difficult to imagine that everything will go right again for the Cowboys in 2010, but there's something more -- all those talented skill players are heavily dependent on a looming weakness: the aging offensive line."

I don't get Insider, but here is a snip..... and Redskins' fans certainly know how this story turns out.

If AH had put in any effort in the Cards game the coaches would have likely pulled him, but he dogged it and that is what gets you playing with the 2nd-3rd stringers.

I would have been pissed at playing the entire game of the most meaningless pre-season game too. I understand a few snaps or a half but that was nuts.

In 15 words: four misspellings, two missing punctuation marks, two missing capitals, and a noun where you should have an adjective. Your stats read like Brandon Banks' fumbles. We might be able to keep you, though, if you have speed (which can't be coached).

Shanny should de-activate Haynesworth for the Dallas game. Haynesworth won't give his best effort coming off the bench.

Can't wait to see Amstrong. Hopefully, that dude establishes himself quickly as a playmaker.

Posted by: coparker5 | September 6, 2010 4:08 PM | Report abuse

Peter King was criticizing the Skins for striking out on their 6th and 7th round picks, insisting that these players should make the team and form the core of your ST contingent. So I decided to check the '09 crop and see how many of those folks were active for more than a few games during the season. Not even looking for productivity, just appearing on the roster of say, 25% of the games.

It's not a lot of players. Some get a real chance, like Julian Edelman with the Pats, or Kevin Ellison with SD, or Sammie Stroughter in Tampa. I guess you could say they're the Chris Hortons of that year. But that's fewer than half. Looks to me like most rookies from those two rounds play little or no active NFL football their first year. They're on the practice squad, getting called up when needed.

I just don't see three late rounders on the PS as a sign of failure. It's not a sign of success, either. IMO we've got one washout to this point, and it's Dennis Morris.

I think you're on to it. When I lived in Colorado during Shanny's time he often played cat and mouse with the media over the game day status of key players - only to have them unexpectedly show up and kick butt on Sunday. My hope is he's doing this with AH.

Haynesworth expected to play, but probably won't play much

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 6, 2010 2:51 PM ET

A weekend report by Jason Reid of the Washington Post that featured Redskins staffers lambasting Albert Haynesworth had many wondering if Haynesworth would be active for Sunday night's game.

Reid writes Monday that Haynesworth is expected to play, according to a source. It just doesn't appear that he'll have a big role.

Multiple reporters at Redskins practice said that Haynesworth wasn't practicing with the starting unit. John Keim of the Washington Examiner said he didn't see Haynesworth take snaps with the first or second team nickel packages either.

It looks like Haynesworth will be held in purgatory for a little while longer, but at least Donovan McNabb returned to the field. He practiced Monday and is fully expected to start Sunday against Dallas.

Robert Henson was the team captain on the #1 ranked defense in the country as a senior at TCU.

It ain't about how much he benches, how fast he runs or his wonderlic score.

The guy just makes plays. He can pressure the QB, tackle RBs for loss and even cover seam routes pretty well.

Big mistake if the Skins don't bring him back at some point.

I said that the day JReid's chicken-little report about AH's "awful" play came out and everyone wanted to crucify him for failing to play the 4th preseason game like it was the SuperBowl.

Gee...maybe he's not practiced much because he played the WHOLE FRICKIN PRESEASON GAME and they know his fat arse and balky knee will need a little rest before Game 1.

You'll see how the backtracking on the reports progress throughout the week.

It starts with AH being "awful", people in the organization being on their last straw with him and serious consideration about deactivating him.

Then it evolves into "he'll play" but we're not sure how much.

When AH takes the field with the starters in the opener, I wonder if JReid will even have the stones to mention it in a post.

They did Samson...but the word is that he'll get an injury settlement and be released. Makes sense, since they're undergoing a bit of a youth movement of sorts. Plus it's the humane thing to do...sounds like his injury wouldn't keep him out all season anyway, so it's only right to allow a 34 year-old veteran to catch on elsewhere.

Everything's on Hemorrhoid Haynesworth. There ain't no 2 sides in this issue like the media has created and some of you egg heads out there. There's one side, the Shanahan side. And if Hemorrhoid Haynesworth doesn't like the Shanahan side, then he quits like he did in the last preseason game and he pouts and he grimaces and he makes girly kinds of looks. Gdamn, Hemorrhoid, man up, and play the game like you owe your employer who gave you 21 mil in February and Coach Shanahan who demands 100% effort in preparation and game execution. Ain't no two sides. There's one and only one side - the Shanahan side.
