thanks frak
with our divison rivals having and adding good pass rushers we need to build our line bad.
Its by far our biggest weak link
You know what the old saying is, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link
We have 1 guy could start on another team on our o line. TW, maybe 2 with JB if he can get fully healthy
We need all new interior lineman. Keep litchy n hicks as back ups. Rabachs days are over.
Imagine signing a young O line man n drafting Pouncey n another second rnd lineman!!
Our line would go from our weakest link to possibly one of our strongest
We could have a decade of drafts to build around those guys.

Cork

Don't forget all the draft experts thought okung was the better LT

Shanny took Silverback because he's just as big but a lot quicker

Maybe Shanny is looking for 320 mobile guys not 320 mauler/slugs

Pouncey is the man. I hope we draft him

Any Terps fans here? I thought Mike Leach was going to be the next MD coach? What happened to him? I see they picked UConn's Randy Edsall to be the new coach.

Posted by: will_ga | January 2, 2011 2:12 PM

I've been saying Edsal for 2 weeks now...

Love the hire. What he did at UCONN with only being in 1A for 10 YRs was brilliant.

This is a better hire than Leach, although Leach would have been my 2nd choice.

Today's Poll:

Which Redskin front line needs the draft help?

a. offensive line

b. defensive line

Moe rolls with b as Kedric Golston is the only drafted defensive linemen who plays.

Last year, the team drafted Williams, Cook, Capers, re-upped Rabach, added Hicks, Licthenslieger, and burned picks for J Brown.

In other words, the team has begun the necessary work of re-building the o-line.

But we feature a defense that couldn't stop time with a stopwatch.

Overall, our defense line issues are really bigger than our offensive line's are.

A Carriker was a nice addition.

But Daniels, Kemo, and AH all need to be replaced with a mix of draftees and hard decisions:

--do you keep V Holliday?

--do you keep A Bryant?

--who plays de next year opposite Carriker?

--where does the NT needed for the 3-4 come from if you draft a o-lineman?

--do you re-sign K Golston?

Yeah, the o-line is important--but steps have been taken to correct it.

The o-line is not the end all and be all of the team.

Our d-line has more problems than a math book--and we must use picks to rebuild it, too, folks.

Co sign.

Imagine if we trade back to 17, draft pouncey, then at 42 draft wisnewski??

That would stir up quite nicely in the kool aid.

Mike Shanahan "The Personnel Guy" scares me. While it's too early to tell how it will pan out, my biggest fear is that we have an owner and GM that may not have the balls to stand up to Shanahan...

I think that Bruce Allen sees the Redskins a bit differently than the Bucs...This was his father's team and he can't fail here.

Posted by: rickyroge | January 2, 2011 2:37 PM | Report abuse

There are a lot of folks at Maryland who have a major problem with hiring Leach so even though he is the AD's top choice I think Edsal will get the job because he comes with less problems.

Edsal has done a great job at Conn. but he can't recruit the south and thats why his Conn. teams can't compete with the SEC's of the world, Frige couldn't recruit there either hell he couldn't even keep the best players in Maryland.

Leach can and would recruit the south, he was my first choice but Edsal is a good choice.

Maryland will never be a National power in football.

I haven't seen Wisnewski play, but I've heard a lot about him.

As long as we're drafting offensive linemen early I'll be happy.

We need to be a very run heavy team next year.

Posted by: iH8dallas | January 2, 2011 2:43 PM | Report abuse

A Carriker was a nice addition. - Agreed smart move by FO, got a starter by swapping picks

But Daniels, Kemo, and AH all need to be replaced with a mix of draftees and hard decisions:

--do you keep V Holliday? No, need a young Replacement for him, he's not a true starter tho so I don't know why wed replace him with a top pick

--do you keep A Bryant? Yes I like what I've seen to this point and I'm liking him as a rotational starter. NT needs to be addresed in the mid rounds, I say 5th round

--who plays de next year opposite Carriker? This is were we spend on FA. Grab a young man ready to take on double teams, no homo.

--where does the NT needed for the 3-4 come from if you draft a o-lineman? Hopefully he comes from either ABryant or the 5th rnd Pic to rotate in

--do you re-sign K Golston? Yes, id resign him for fair mrket value as a backup, rotational guy to sub with the FA signed

So I answered those ?s, rebuilt the o line with 2 draftees, 1 FA. Started your rebuild on defense with an added NT with a 5th rnd pick (3rd or 4th if we acquire any of those) and a DE signing in FA.

Id say that's pretty solid for phase 2

Wisnewski plays RG for penn state, he is listed as a center prospect tho

Dude was mauling people, constantly knocking his guy off the line. They ran to his side for some decent gains.

I agree we need to be run heavy.

Some guy named Jason Campbell has played fairly efficiently today against a good Chiefs D.

I agree with you, rickyroge. What worries me is this Grosman thing. I believe Shanahan thinks(knows) he's found his next Jake Plummer and will quit looking for a young guy to groom, and we'll have another wasted year screwing with Grosman. For that reason I really hope Rex stinks the place up today. To have him as the only hope next year is suicide and unthinkable.

Funny we are just now having this conversation. I blame the media for a lot of the negativity.

Inspite of his failures at draft picks he also won more games than he lost, that's why we hired him.

I'm a skin fan trapped in Carolina and I have watched John Fox's career as a head coach. He has made miserable choices with his draft, case in point, Jimmy Clausen. But as soon as today's game is over, make no mistake someone will be hiring Mr. Fox.

Posted by: rodskin | January 2, 2011 2:56 PM | Report abuse

This 3-4 Haslett's got us doing looks good some days, totally abysmal others..It starts at NT, and let's see how Anthony Bryant does today, he's shown promise..Maake and Ghoston at backups in rotation might work..might...Giants rush offense is a true test of any D-line, their pass rush a true test of any O-line..Great teams like the Patriots find no-names to fill the slots all the time, Shanahan has shown promise in this department..

Pouncey would be a helluva anchor, though..

The key to this question is "draft" help. Do we chase Pouncey as 'big and fast", versus a top lb or de?

Our biggest holes are at C, OG and NT. I think Carriker and a resigned Golston are adequate with Jarmon and Holliday as backups DEs. I'd resign JBrown at RT, and I think WMontgomery may solve an interior spot.

I'm really hoping that we can find fixes for these holes in FA, so we can take BPA in rd 1 & 2.

Not a chance Shanny is not stupid Rex is not even close to the player Plummer was, he will get a young QB this year most likely in the draft.

Shanahan has already said that he'll be looking for the next Sam Bradford or young McNabb.

He knows what he has in Grossman, a guy that knows the playbook but is limited as a player. He's evaluating him to see if he could be a bridge next YR for our rookie.

As for rooting for failure from someone wearing the BnG, take that ish some where else.

brandon_in_cali

rebuilt the o line with 2 draftees

You could accomplish the same with FA starters.

So why spend a high pick(s)?

This draft features stud defensive lineman.

And we can't stop anyone.

Guys like Powe, Fairley, Clayburn are the types I'd try to snag in this draft.

Posted by: MistaMoe | January 2, 2011 3:03 PM | Report abuse

I would like the stats on undrafted free agents that became stars under shanny. If anyone knows let us know.

While we lost draft picks on DM5 we still found a punt returner in Banks, a receiver in Armstrong an entire defense (last week) of many no names.

I agree Shanny has some issues but he creates an enviorment of competition that produces stars.

I don't understand all the hate towards Grossman...

-he's costing us nothing.
-no one, inlcuding Shanahan, thinks he's the future.
-he knows and executes the offense.

Moe,

That's well said with FA also

The reality is tho that all those guys could be gone by the time we draft, maybe powe as I've read he could be a 2 to 4th rnd pick

With the best 4 d line man gone why not grab the best o lineman? Id rather have one of the top prospects vs the 5th prospect

Confirmed: Leslie Frazier agrees to become Vikings head coach
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 2, 2011, 2:51 PM EST
The Vikings are struggling in Detroit on Sunday, but interim head coach Leslie Frazier has a reason to smile.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that Frazier will be back with the team next year as head coach. Chip Scoggins of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune confirms that Frazier has agreed to take the job.

Frazier met with Vikings brass for more than five hours on Friday about his future. It looks like those talks were very productive, and Frazier’s future will be in Minnesota.
