McNabb says he isn't lobbying to add Owens

Quarterback Donovan McNabb has not encouraged the Redskins to sign free-agent wide receiver Terrell Owens and is not interested in reuniting with his former Philadelphia Eagles teammates, McNabb on Tuesday night told Post columnist Michael Wilbon.

Citing multiple sources, ESPN reported earlier Tuesday that McNabb encouraged coaches to consider signing Owens. In a phone conversation, Wilbon said, McNabb stressed he never lobbied for Washington's coaches to consider bringing in Owens, who is 37 and is coming off the worst season statistically (55 catches, 829 yards and 5 TDs) of his career as a starter.

BOMB.

I guess Wilby is going to be the official mouthpiece of McNabb, so unless Wilby says it, McNabb didn't say it.

What a stupid rumor anyhow.

I like the fact that McNabb got it out there that he did not lobby for TO and is not interested in reuniting with him.

McNabb's polite way of flipping the guns at TO.

Does ANYBODY really think that McNabb would disrespect his new teammates/receivers by encouraging his new HC/GM to get a virus of a player that insulted and disrespected him, is past his prime, and coming off his worst year of his career? Please....this isn't even believable!!! Pre-draft smoke and mirrors. I hope Snyder, Shanahan, and Allen are in their "war room" LOL on this.

Who cares if the people they bring in are not as good as fatsworth. He misses games, rolls around on the ground like a pig in slop. You think he is going to be motivated to play a position he doesn't want to when he has already been paid most of his guaranteed money? F him. Hopefully someone will run him off a road or cleat him in the face. Piece of garbage.

McNabb said it and now MS says it:

Mike Shanahan on T.O.: "We will not go in that direction right now"
Posted by Mike Florio on April 20, 2010 7:32 PM ET
Amid a report that Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb wants his new team to add one of his old teammates -- a guy named Terrell Owens -- and comments from agent Drew Rosenhaus indicating that T.O. would be interested, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said that it won't be happening.

"I can appreciate Donovan wanting his friend back," Shanahan told ESPN's Trey Wingo on the network's schedule-release show, "but we made a decision as an organization not to go in that direction."

He made it more clear moments later.

"No, we will not go in that direction right now," Shanahan said.

Though in some contexts "right now" could be interpreted as the door being opened a crack, it doesn't sound like Shanahan will be changing his mind.

Carriker, Bryant, Kemoteau, Green, Petersen in...means Haynesworth is out?

So who would you deal with if the lions and titans come knockin'?

Here's what they'd have to offer:

Lions
So the titans and lions come calling this Friday with a desire to trade for Prince Al for picks you can use this weekend.

Here's what they have (from the NFL.COM site):

Lions
Round 2, Pick 2 (34)
Round 3, Pick 2 (66)
Round 4, Pick 2 (100)

Titans
Round 1, Pick 16 (16)
Round 3, Pick 13 (77)
Round 3, Pick 33 (97) (Compensatory selection)
Round 4, Pick 13 (111)

Again, I'd roll with the titans.

(Unless the Lions want to give up their 2nd and 3rd rounders.)

I'd want the 3rd rounder (13th pick) and pick 13 in round 4.

That gives me 1, 3, 4, 4, 5, 7.

Is moving AH worth it for that kind of return, a 3rd and 4th?

Now, with so many bodies in the house to play tackle, it looks like it might be.

Well done Lisa. I voiced my displeasure with the media b4, although TheCork made me pay 4 it; The media, like lawyers, can do no wrong...drip drip sarcasm drip.

Look what the media did to Portis. They only report negative slants to anything Portis does. Look what they are doing to Haynesworth, who's only crime apparently was getting paid. I believe it was pabrian2003 who pointed out that Haynesworth played more than any other D-linemen on our team last year. But somehow the media has puppets believing that fat Albert should play every snap!

I'm there already as the skins probably are.

So you play the lions against the titans hoping for the best offer.

The lions have fewer premium selections this year, meaning they might choose to seek a AH type in the draft.

I think we'll wind up doing bidness with the titans.

A 3rd and 4th rounder will be the price they'll pay.

The author of this line must not post or read here that often.

The regulars posted all last week that because of depth issues and his influence, the best thing to do with AH is to let him be.

But smart people go with trends and know that sometimes, like a sexy chick who drives you crazy, you have to let go of what you want.

The trend suggest the team is going to try to get by with journey types in a rotation at NT and DT.

If the Lions want to give us their 2nd rounder, plus switch places in round 1, then I'd think about it. Otherwise, managing AH in the locker room shouldn't be that hard. All they have to do is hire the sargeant from Full Metal Jacket to be the Nose Tackle Coach.

from BEEFmagazine.com... an abbreviated version of "what's a beef cow worth?"

1) Prepare a set of long-run planning prices.
2) Prepare an economic budget for your herd.
3) Project the salvage value of cull cows.
4) Determine the appropriate discount rate.
5) Calculate the net present value (NPV) of a bred heifer.

http://beefmagazine.com/ar/beef_whats_beef_cow/

I'd suggest that AH is a cull cow, but Cow Sense has been futzy today and I don't have the rest of the input data. salvage value and discount rate remain uncertain.

face it, we're all commodities... some cows just get paid more than others.

night all, for real.

The writing appears to be on the wall.

I'm just a lil curious: If Albert H was gonna be traded, why hasn't it occured yet?

Let's analyze this:

Point 1-SEVERAL trades for players have occurred this off-season, with each trading team NOT hesitating to offer picks for players they covet.

Point 2-If the best we are gonna get for him is a 3rd rounder and possibly an additional pick(s), why would teams who need a dominating DT wait?

Point 3-Which D-linemen is gonna be available after the 2nd round who projects to contribute the way Albert does?

This is how I view the Albert trade rumors. I don't believe the Skins will trade Albert unless multiple picks are offered including at least 1 second round pick. If that happens then go for it, if not keep him. Al's gonna be a Redskin2010.

Point 1: Carriker could be a real nice complement of NTs/DTs to rotate and help assure AH plays more the DE role to get more disruption from him on the line.

Don't trade Haynesworth!!

Point 2: I'd thought that JC was a good fit for the Steelers, considering their issues, and that we may have been given either their 3rd or 4th round pick for him, but they got a steal for Leftowich with a mere 7th round pick! It doesn't look good for getting anything of value for him, at least for a 2010 draft pick.

Skins fans should be standing up for their new QB and blasting ESPN for lying on him, making fickle DC fans that were undecided about McNabb think negatively towared him.

I believe media does this on a regular to push their own agenda and to create trades where THEY see they should happen and in some cases to unfairly contribute to running a player, coach or whomever out of town. It digusting and I'm disappoint in a supposed respected organization like ESPN.

Brandon Marshall just got traded for two second rounders AND the Fins had to give him the richest contract for a WR.

Marshall is a bigger problem-child than AH.

How in the world do the Skins settle for anything less than what Denver got?

The Skins should be demanding MORE, because whatever team is getting AH is not only getting one of the top players in the league at the position in his prime, they are also getting him at a majorly discounted rate with his contract.

If the Skins get anything less than a first AND a second round pick for AH, then the FO would have failed miserably.

The titans have a line, quarterback, running back, great coach, and, well, AH is from TENN..

So you dangle AH in front of the lions, hoping the titans up the value of their offer.

Maybe you can entice Team Fisher (throw in JC plus AH) for both 3rd rounders.

That gives you: 1, 3, 3, 4, 5, 7.

More picks (four players)in the rounds that matter, 3-5.

Shanahan is smarter than you think. No we didn't blow it. Shanahan intentionally tendered Campbell a 1st round because he already knew no team will dare! Therefore, Campbell will, eventually, have no other option than to stay as the primary back up to McNabb; he knew there is no better no 2 in the league better than Campbell. But, if by any luck Bradford falls to pick 4, Campbell will be released.

The media is protected by the war-machines who provide oil to reduce their heating bills.

Remember when Mike Sellars criticized the media for exacerbating a difficult season for Washington? He suddenly became the villian. Basically the media expected us to go 16-0 and when we fell short of their standards they had no problem stirring the pot and getting underneath the players skin!

Standard issue drone rhetoric manipulated fans into believing that Sellars was blaming the media for losing. That was hardly the case, and the evidence lies in his succinct response to a loaded question:

Media: What's been the most difficult aspect to the season?

Sellars: You guys. The media.

"If the Skins get anything less than a first AND a second round pick for AH, then the FO would have failed miserably."

I get your point, but the team that's most interested in AH, the titans, doesn't have a 2nd rounder.

Maybe they do a 1st and a 3rd 'cuz they want him that badly.

But remember the Getting Rid of a Headache Rule: getting something when you ain't got nothing, is better than being greedy trying to get more.

Sometimes, you take what you can get.

And the titans' two 3rds are the optimum price for the Pride of the Volunteer State.

If the beast [Albert Haynesworth] have to go, I'll trade him back to the Titans for a]Swap 1st round pick 16 for pick4, b]obtain early 3rd pick 77, and c]a fourth round.

Titans
Round 1, Pick 16 (16)
Round 3, Pick 13 (77)
Round 3, Pick 33 (97) (Compensatory selection)
Round 4, Pick 13 (111)

look at the trends the skins are getting NT in place so #92 can play DE I think they have come to the realization that its best to come to a compromise. They are not going to get true value for him...so use him. The skins are putting everyone else in the position to do what they do best EXAMPLE: #30 playing closer to the line as SS. #98 rushing the passer doing less coverage so why not let #92 rush the passer/freelance.

I agree with some and disagree on other parts of this post. I don"t think the tender had much to do with JC not being traded, because the compensation could've been negotiated if all parties wanted a deal down. The question is how badly does the Skins want to get a deal done? What are they ask for him? My hunch is that they are waiting for the draft to gauge the anxiety of the teams that have contacted them in regards to JC.

Redskin teams have too often acted like they are negotiating from weakness. They have convinced themselves too often that the deal must be done. You only get a fair deal if you're willing not to do a deal at all. Besides, the locker room isn't so fragile that an unusual personality like Albert's would blow it up.

So what's JC worth if the likes of C Whitehurst and B Leftwich can be moved for various points of value?

I don't know, but if I'm Campbell's agent, I'd tell him to eat a big piece of humble pie, and go back to working out at Shanallenville, aka, Redskins Park.

If AH does get traded, I would like to see the Skins trade with the Lions. We give them AH, we swap 1st round round picks with them and get their 2nd round pick.

That way, we are assured to get Suh to replace AH and then we could pick up the best available OT at the 34th pick, or trade the pick for either Jamaal Brown or Gaither, or trade the 2nd round pick plus next year's 2nd round pick to trade up to somewhere in the top 15 to get a much more highly acclaimed OT (hopefully Trent Williams). We'd have youth on the D-line and a good, young, talented LT.

Got to do somwthing about the right side Tackle position. Either pickup up Flozell Adams (I can't believe I'm suggesting that, but desperate times call for desperate measures) or resign Levi Jones. What ever happened with him? No offer given to him and no other teams have given him an offer either. Weird! I thought he did well last year, especially towards the end of the season.

So curious how it'll all pan out.

right now the ONLY position of trade strength the skins have is in the category of QB.. Better to wait even after the draft, if necessary, for a Starting QB to go down to injury. When that happens.. JC goes from a 5th round pick compensation to possibly as high as a 2nd round 2011 pick value from a now very motivated team in desperate need to backfill a backup QB or starting QB.
2010 is a rebuilding year.. so time is on the skins side.. why panic and let JC go for nothing.. see what happens between now and the trade deadline of Oct 15.

Now name the D line for the Skins in 1991-1992.

Eric Williams, Tim Johnson, Fred Stokes, Jason Buck, Mann was the only stud and at that point he was declining.

Point being you don't need stars on the D line, especially a 3-4

I feel bad for the Rams. Their neglect of the QB position over the years have forced them to pay a rookie approximately $50 million guaranteed.

No way a DT(Suh) would command that type of salary at the No.1 spot.

And Suh is "allegedly" the safer pick.

The Rams could offer us their 4th rounder for Campbell and since they've addressed their O-line and have a terrific running back, they could shift focus to defense.

# of picks in the top 150 (indicator of future potential starters or role players - likely cutoff for roster players)
WAS:1
PHI: 7
DAL:4
NYG:6

I don't worry as much about our relative lack of picks. Yes, you can have 12 picks, but if 8 are in rounds 5/6/7, it doesn't really matter. I worry about the meat of the draft...where we have nothing. To put another way: if you knew this, would you have given 2nd round pick for McNabb, so that the rest of the division gets stronger/better/younger while you have a 2 year period to figure out new system etc.

REdskins are screwed until 2013 at least.

BTW, this is in the best draft in recent memory, and perhaps forever (due to labor issues etc.)...

Skins fans are such pooosies. Always putting down their players looking for the next guy to blame or hate. Do I think Haynesworth should be a better teamate? Sure, could he be in better shape? Yes, but do I think he is a bad player? Heck no! Before he came we could not stop anyone on 3 or 4th and short. Would you rather have Griff back? Give the players more than one season before you declare them not worth being on the team. And please stop thinking that some player we havent gotten yet is better than who we have. AH is not the fans favorite player to hate, You use to hate Vinny, hes gone, You hated JC, he has been replaced. You hated Zorn, he is gone, You hated Snyder putting his hands in things, he has backed off and hired a real GM. Now instead of shifting your hatred to the next player and the next one before spring training even starts how about waiting to see how this team turns out before you ship out all of your players for draft picks. If those draft picks to play any better what will skins fans do then? Start hating them and wanting them traded or cut? Get rid of the new GM and coach? Get another QB? And my favorite, Snyder sell the team. This from the same fans who thought Colt Breenan was the answer.
