Poll: Who would you like at Redskins QB?

The Redskins made runs at several quarterbacks in recent years before trading for the Eagles' Donovan McNabb last spring. Did they end up with the best option?

Why isn't Colt Brennan an option?

Posted by: Rypien11 | October 21, 2010 12:11 PM | Report abuse

I voted for McNabb, because he seems to be fitting in nicely and filling a real leadership role, but Cutler is an intriguing option since Mike Shanahan drafted him and maybe could get more out of him. However, if the question is Donovan McNabb + a 4th for a 2nd, Jason Campbell, and conditional pick vs. Jay Cutler for a 1st + Jason Campbell, Donovan McNabb becomes a no brainer to me.

Pizza - you seriously have a problem w/ McNabb currently?

from previous thread:

Yeah, you've got a point.

Has anyone else noticed the extreme number of concussions from this year vs. years prior?

Does anyone think it has to do with the CBA ending at the end of this season? Maybe concussions have been rampant but players have been hesitant to say they're concussed?

Now that the CBA is ending players are actually stepping out when they are concussed instead of playing through the pain to show Goodell that an 18 game season is absolutely ridiculous?

Also, I think this also correlates with player's issues with Health Care after retiring.

I don't see how these two issues DON'T correlate.

I saw a graph on ESPN, or NFL Network, one of the two (they're all the same) showing how many concussions there were from 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and now 2010. It hiked dramatically in this year, there has to be a relation between this and the CBA ending.

Thoughts anyone?

just straight up player, sanchez, not that i like the guy, but u'd be stupid to not build around a young and seemingly talented QB, but then, why not include braford, there was strong interest from us there too, it woulda required trading future draft picks as well, and i prefer him more

but if this includes the draft picks we woulda had to give up, mcnabb, mcnabb, mcnabb, im tired of getting rid of draft picks and cutler and sanchez woulda been expensive as hell

When the end of the season rolls around, I hope there are some tweaks to the coaching staffs with Slovik being the most notable one and Danny Smith right behind him.

Posted by: RedSkinHead | October 21, 2010 8:33 AM

Why Danny Smith? He has the coverage and return units cooking and sticking. I don't blame him for the early personnel decisions @ punter and long-snapper because I assume that's out of his hands. The snaps on kicks seem to be smoothing out and now we have a good and healthy punter in place. I would like to see Gano become more consistent, but I think that's on him. All in all, I think Danny Smith is doing a good job.

Posted by: MColeman51 | October 21, 2010 9:44 AM
------------------------------------------
Danny Smith now benefits from having one of the fastest guys in the NFL as a punt/kick returner. That isn't coaching skill - that's just good fortune on his part that Bruce Allen brought the guy in. Lest we forget, this is the same Danny Smith that coached his unit for the swinging gate play and has to take some share of the responsibility for the instability at kicker and punter over the years. Add to that the miserable punt return average the team had last year. He's been lucky with Gano and Banks this year, but, remember, if he takes credit for them, he also has to take credit for the Bidwell fiasco. No, I am not a Danny Smith fan. He has great coverage units but I don't think he knows how to get the most out of his kickers, punters and return units.

Danny Smith is one of the last people I would let go of on this team.

His coverage units are the best I've seen on this team, maybe ever.

Posted by: shaunsherman12 | October 21, 2010 12:38 PM | Report abuse

I've been WAY down on Smith for a long time. I'm happy to begin reversing that opinion this season.

Now, if they could only stop trying to kick field goals over 45 yards when not absolutely necessary.

Brandon Banks as our "Wildcat" QB.

Of course with Banks, we would call it our "Wild Kitten" formation.

Posted by: keino83 | October 21, 2010 12:44 PM | Report abuse

100% chance that pabrian voted Campbell...

If I have to rank 'em, I'd go:

McNabb
Sanchez
Campbell
Cutler

I get that Cutler's probably better than JC, but if I have a choice between a QB accused of not having a personality vs. a QB with the personality of a Grade A D-bag, I'm taking the guy with no personality.

Posted by: brownwood26 | October 21, 2010 12:48 PM | Report abuse

Hate to think it, but I think McNabb may be slightly overrated. He is not as accurate as I'd like. Gets happy feet after being hit a few times.

Still, my belief is that this is a nonsensical poll. I guess we have to just consider these QB's in a vacuum. If not, it's McNabb 100 out of 100 times based purely on wins.

I would never account for a QB's personality or a lack thereof if they are a winner. Aside from McNabb, no one on the list has ever won a damn thing.

First off, that's one of the reasons he was so mobile in his first few years, he'd get happy feet and then use his great athletic ability to make plays.
Second, didn't we already know was a little inaccurate? People crack me up because they expected him to come here and be a different player and somehow sure up those mistakes he made in Philly for 10 years! The dude is only human, and makes mistakes like any other QB, but he usually wins more than other QBs, he'll find a way to win here, but expect the dirtball every now and then!

Should have included Colt Brennan. Would have been good for a laugh.

Who gets more votes. Colt Brennan or Jason Campbell. One is currently out of the NFL and the other just put up a QB rating of 10.

Prediction
Brennan 2%
JC 1%

I can't blame Danny Smith for the Swinging Gate play.

That was Jim Zorn's call. A swinging gate play against a Giants team that had already been burned by us earlier in the season on a trick special teams play.

Trick plays typically only work if they contain the element of surprise. Not only had we tried the same thing against the same team, but we lined up for it twice after they called a time out.

I don't think Jim Zorn is responsible for all the calamities of the last two years, but the fault for that one lines entirely with him, not Danny Smith, IMHO.

I watched the raiders niners game. I saw Campbell throw 2 picks. One was a calculated risk over the middle where a LB made an extremely athletic play.

The other was a slant that bounced of the WR chest into the defenders arms.

I agree, I can get impatient too. I want him to and expect big plays every down, and that's not realistic. He is the best QB that we've had in YEARS, and I hope we don't waste this opportunity. I'm guessing he's got 3 more years left, so we have that much time to get the rest of the team shored up, by then he'll have full control of the offense. Hopefully we'll win a SB before that, if not I can wait 3 more years, I've already waited 20 years now since the last one!

Nice idea, but there's a problem with each:

1) Be careful what you wish for, I hear Vinny writes a mean blog!
2) This won't work cause the Post is cutting back, they'd have to give the monkey a raise cause he is more qualified than Reid
3) They don't want a dog, they've already been p*ssed/sh*t on by Reid
4) JReid smokes too many trees, that's where half of this crap is made up, in the cloudy pot-smoked-up mind of JReid!

My vote is for the Sloth. It's the slowest animal on earth, and the only thing that can compete with the speed of Reid's articles that are posted.

Jay Cutler. I know McNabb is great and I love him as our QB. However I don't know if he's going to last past 2013. Cutler has a strong arm, knows the system, and he's relatively young. Mark Sanchez is playing well but he has that pop gun arm, a terrible fit for this system.

I prefer McNabb to Cutler if it was 2003. It's not. Thus TODAY, I prefer Cutler to McNabb.

Unlike most fans around here, that mirror Dan Synder's and the fed gov's short-term thinking (and spending), 7-9 wins TODAY means nothing in the long run. Outside of DC, who cares or will remember that McNabb came in and went 7-9. 8-8 and 9-7 and made a playoff, but lost? Many teams do that (see recent Eagles with McNabb and Romo's Cowboys).

Cutler may never win, but he has a far batter chance of winning big GOING FORWARD than McNabb, who is easily past his prime.

Quick, name one past his prime QB that won a Super Bowl. Don't say Jim Plunkett, who hit his prime late and won 2. I said PAST THEIR PRIME.

Zero, and McNabb is ... and will not be the first. Thus, give my Jay TODAY.
Who cares about 8-8 basically every year he'll be here? Not I.
