Are the Redskins winning despite McNabb?

Rick Maese, Dan Steinberg and LaVar Arrington discussed the play of quarterback Donovan McNabb in this week's edition of Football Insider Live. Studio host Jonathan Forsythe posed the question: Are the Redskins winning despite McNabb's play?

Regrading all the QB chatter -- it's also worth noting the Bears have the #5 defense.

I'm not watching this.

Give me a break these videos are BS Lavar is a pure hater and he is just dumb.

Nobody in there right mine would think it was a good idea to bench Mcnabb and play Grossman.

This is the second post today on this dumb a$$ subject, I wish one of you idiots would actually post some I don't know inside information.

These media people are nothing but full of gossips. This question is just plain ol dumb..Dont they anything better to talk about than stupid sh...it like this.

I'd like to dress as a Raven fan this year for Halloween only I don't have a mullet, a pressed-in stache', any black heavy metal concert t-shirts or skin-tight acid washed jeans.

Don't forget to try and throw in some purple, black and white camouflage or Zubaz pants to go along with your tucked in Elvis Grbac jersey.

Agreed. Since the IROC is in the shop again, they can ride their purple BMX bike to the stadium with their 45 year old, unemployed buddy sporting Oakley Gargoyle sunglasses (purple, of course) standing on the back of the foot pegs, mullets flapping in the wind as they cross Russell St. against traffic.

Next stupid poll: Should the Redskins trade back for Jason Campbell?

Its 8 games into a season and their 4-3. McNabb isn't putting the offense on his shoulders at this point but he's not killing the team with mistakes either.

brownwood22
re: your post a couple of threads ago.

I never suggested stats alone tell the whole story. But they do tell a partial story.

I don't expect to change your mind, because you think McNabb is the main reason for the team's success.

I look at all the close games we had last year, and all the close games we're winning this year. It's not QB play that's closing them out, it's defense.

I give McNabb credit for avoiding sacks, but he's (along with the rest of the offense) isn't putting many points on the board.

However, the defense (unlike last year) is finally scoring. The defense (unlike last year) is giving the offense short fields to work on by taking the ball away from the offense. The defense is knocking the other team's key offensive players out of the game.

So IMHO, the biggest difference in the close losses last year and the close wins this year is the defense. Not McNabb.

I mean 7 games into the season. Damn Harvard education, lol.

Was not enough to write a post, then do a video on this dumb topic, but then you have to add the poll question...sheesh!

How about reading the GD comments on here and get a feel for what THIS community wants from you.

What a POS this blog has become since JLC and Cindy left.

THE WASHINGTON POST HAS GONE INSANE....STAMPED..

This is is on their 1st page....Someone get to Donovan ASAP and tell him this has all to do with selling papers and we aren't even thinking about that, save for Pabarian and MistaMoe....

This is easily the most idiotic, mindless, assinine argument in the history of RI. I'd almost rather reopen the JC debate, discuss the merits of bringing back Marko Mitchell, and try to quantify the notion that we'd be 7-0 if only we kept Leigh Torrance.

Literally the ONLY discernible difference between last year's offense and this year's from an on-field standpoint is McNabb and TWilliams. That's it. The line is still mediocre at best, the WRs not named Moss are still garbage, and Portis is on the sidelines again. Yet we're 4-3 with a MUCH tougher schedule than the stroll in the park we couldn't capitalize on last year. Anyone who's watched even a quarter of Redskins football would know that McNabb is making a sizeable difference here.

Again...anyone who can't tell what an effective QB without fantasy football stats to back it up looks like, needs to logoff of RI, go watch film on Roethlisberger and Elway, THEN come talk to me about McNabb. Kyle Orton is putting up numbers, but sits at 2-5. McNabb is 4-3. Just let that marinate...

Posted by: PlayAction | October 27, 2010 12:41 PM | Report abuse

By the way, the poll question is stupid. Rex Grossman at his best would get mauled behind our O-line, and everybody knows it.

The real questions should be:
"Is McNabb the primary reason for the Skins early success this year?"

Posted by: Alan4 | October 27, 2010 12:42 PM | Report abuse

now JReid wants to start a QB controversy

There is no controversy if the passing offense doesn't disappear for long strethces of games only to re-appear in the fourth quarter.

Again: we've yet to see an effiecient, 60 minutes, well-managed game from our 'elite' 11 veteran quarterback.

And until we do, the critical eyes will see that Reid--like a lot of us--are on the mark about McNabb's overall play.

It's good, but not that good.

And it's not good enough for an extension or to be a aprt of a long term, 5 year plan.

Posted by: MistaMoe | October 27, 2010 12:45 PM | Report abuse

O NOES peabrain done kidnapped jReid!!

Seriously? Benching McNabb in favor of Grossman? That's what you think will fix this offense? Turn in the keys to the blog. How about bringing back Dock, benching Jamaal in favor of Heyer, getting a real change of pace RB, and possibly try using Fred Davis as a #2 WR? There's a ton of things that should be done before benching McNabb. He's like the 9th worst thing wrong with this offense.

Polls are like aholes...everyone's got one.

Posted by: PlayAction | October 27, 2010 12:54 PM | Report abuse

"I look at all the close games we had last year, and all the close games we're winning this year. It's not QB play that's closing them out, it's defense."

The defense has bee no better than the offense other than getting turnovers which the 3-4 is designed to do. The diffrence in winning close games and losing them as we did last year is leadership. Last year we had none. Zorn, Cerrato, Blache, Campbell, not an ounce of leadership or accountability among them. Mcnabb is a leader and motivates people to put out. Shanahan scares people into putting out and Haslett has been successful and at least 3 defensive players are having career years because of it.

Strong leadership my friends is what makes the diffrence and Mcnabb has it. Honestly I don't know if Rex has it or not but right now I am willing to let the team find their way. 4-3 and 2-0 in the division is more than I thought it would be anyway.

Another ludicrous post. Winning despite McNabb?

In the Bears game, sure,. Overall? Absolutely not.

We don't beat GB without McNabb, and we aren't even in the Texans and Colts games without McNabb.

It's bizarre. I grew up with this newspaper and some damn good writers - Shirley Povich, Richard Justice, early Kornheiser... The Millenial Slackers who take up space at the WaPo these days aren't qualified to flip hamburgers, let alone write about sports.

Sad.

These guys are NUTZ.

The offense just needs time working together. It's coming. Besides, the 'skins lose the Bears game but for that beautiful throw from McNabb to Moss for a TD. Without that, which Campbell would've never thrown, we lose.

So thank McNabb for the win you haters.

Posted by: alocowboy | October 27, 2010 1:30 PM | Report abuse

why is this even a QUESTION? good lord.......

McNabb will show everyone when he throws for 3 tds against the lions

Posted by: rachel216 | October 27, 2010 1:35 PM | Report abuse

What a crock!

McNabb is no more nor is he any less than we thought he'd be. We knew he had warts - 10% of the time he overthrows a wide open receiver and 10% of the time his passes are intended for the turf. Sometimes you wonder to whom he is throwing, but there are those times when all hope looks lost and he takes one for the team and delivers a beautiful touchdown pass.

If anyone cared to notice in the last two games, these defenses were able to pretty much contain McNabb preventing him from rolling out - where he is especially lethal to opposing defenses. We are also without our best blocking back (Clinton Portis) which also has made it easier to get to McNabb and which has likely allowed two interceptions to happen from rushed throws.

McNabb isn't the greatest quarterback nor is he the worst. But we don't need the best to win. We need Donovan to lead, the command the field, and to do everything within his power to not turn the ball over with fumbles and interceptions. I'll take his heart to play football and to buy time over a statue quarterback like Campbell.

Posted by: danminter | October 27, 2010 3:17 PM | Report abuse

Get the hell out of here!!! Have y'all forgot about Jason Campbell? If he were here we would be 0-6! I'll be the first to admit that Mcnabb has been a pedestrian QB at best, but this question is Ludicrous! Yes, the offense needs work, Mcnabbs non accuracy has been extremely off, but he still gives us the best chance of winning!!! Now, if we go on a losing streak & it's attributable to bad QB play, then maybe we can "roll the dice" with Grossman, but not now!!!! I am confident that Mcnabb will put it together soon! Hail 2 The Redskins!
