Dorian Smith Re-Signs with Skins

The Redskins have re-signed defensive end Dorian Smith. The 6-3, 260-pound rookie from Oregon State originally signed with the team on May 1 as an undrafted free agent. He was released on May 27, re-signed on June 9 and released again July 14.

Cindy, has Marcus Tubbs's name been bandied about, possibly for better depth at the DT position?

Posted by: Greg | August 12, 2008 8:32 AM | Report abuse

Tubbs, possibly the best last name a DT can have. I liked the sound of James being moved in to DT on passing downs.

Anyone else notice that they are not including any redskins in the QB stats on NFL.com I know Campbell's passer rating is over 100 and he has completion % over 70, which right now puts him as the no 1 or 2 best starter in those categories.

Zeese, he needs a minimum amount of attempts to qualify....

Posted by: Zebra | August 12, 2008 8:39 AM | Report abuse

From last post. No Alex35332 you don't coach to lose.

Posted by: jm220 | August 12, 2008 8:39 AM | Report abuse

NM its because he has only 12 completions. They don't get added to the list till 14 passes (which apparently means completions not attempts)

Posted by: Alex35332 | August 12, 2008 8:40 AM | Report abuse

Thinking about this, aside from Griff, Monty, and Golston, and then Evans sliding over to DT on passing downs, who else is there that will see playing time on Sunday's??

Zorn must know about this guy, coming out of Seattle.

Posted by: Greg | August 12, 2008 8:42 AM | Report abuse

Gregg,

Dont forget, James will slide in on passing downs if healthy too as well as Alexander may come in if need be to relieve anyone on the line.

Seahawks Insider sez this about the Crockett-less Tubbs:

Mike Holmgren said the former first-round pick kept having setbacks in his rehabilitation from knee surgery and that they decided he just wasn't going to be able to make ... him a free agent. He worked out against the sled in the past few days, his knee swelled up and the team decided to let him go after he failed his physical. Though Holmgren said there is a chance he comes back if he gets healthy, that does not seem like a likely scenario.

Posted by: Cindy | August 12, 2008 8:46 AM | Report abuse

Alex, yeah, I don't know how many times you want to send James coming off a bum knee into the middle of the line.

Posted by: Greg | August 12, 2008 8:48 AM | Report abuse

Sign Tubbs! Sure, he can't get healthy in Seattle, but the climate there is terrible. All that rain. No one can recover there. Bring him to Ashburn and inside a week he'll be pushing the blocking sled all the way to the District line.

Besides, he's a DT. What do we care if he can block? We want a DT who can slide between the pads of a blocking sled. Tubbs!

I know, but still think that our D-Line has some very good depth now, (odd to say).

BTW Campbell rated 12th in overall QB rating. Tied for 13th in completion %.

With a lot of guys who are 1-1 throwing off the sheet.

Taking out non-starters he is 7th in rating and tied for 8th on completion %.

And so the campaign to sign Tubbs begins.

Hey, it's preseason. We can sign anyone for a day. Let's sign Jasno and let him retire as a Redskin.

Sorry to hear about your pinky, Lisa. And thanks so much, Smack, for reminding everyone that my story about smashing my thumb as I rescued a family of four -- and their pets -- from a burning building was less than, um, truthful.

The big news of the morning would seem to be that Brandi Chastain is now a brunette. When did that happen?
I'm digging the Kiwis' all-black unis, btw. Tres chic.

No buzz at the Park about Tubbs.

Posted by: Cindy | August 12, 2008 8:58 AM | Report abuse

Flag on the play - piling on.... we have enough DLine depth at this point. Make it work with who we've got, lets stop taking every cast off high draft pick that hasnt panned out... we have enough on our current team ;)

replay 2nd down

Anyone know what's our situation at SS ?
Are they still figuring out the depth order ?
It's my understanding that Landry is locked up at FS barring another injury/setback or whatever have you. But is there a battle that I missed for the SS spot ? Or is this just like last year where Reed Doughty is the incumbent and it is his position to lose.
Is Chris Horton trying to unseat Doughty or is he a natural Free Safety ?
What Safety spot does this other new draft pick Kareem Moore play ?

Jasno's Blackberry analysis -- unedited:

Its one thing to take a chance on a guy in june, like erasmus, and a far differrent thing to burn a roster spot on a guy now in mid aug who provbably won't play for a few month

Posted by: Cindy | August 12, 2008 9:00 AM | Report abuse

While we are at it. Sign Monk and Green again. Since Joe left we have no one on staff with a bust in canton.

Posted by: Alex35332 | August 12, 2008 9:00 AM | Report abuse

Should have a bust in Canton

Posted by: Bugel | August 12, 2008 9:04 AM | Report abuse

I'm coming in to camp today to try to get that starting SS spot. I'll cut someone. While Landry is hittin', I'll be slicin' hamstrings.

from the nfl stats page for QBs:

* To qualify for passer rating, the player must have thrown at least 14 passes/game.

TheSoup is #12 if you choose 'All' QBs rather than just the 'Qualified'...

Look at Cindy keepin things going up here. Cindy, Erasmus will take a roster spot and won't be ready for months? Sorry did I miss something? Isn't he on his way back to health?

Posted by: Skinz | August 12, 2008 9:09 AM | Report abuse

No doubt Prison ! Everyone was wondering what happened to you. We thought maybe you had escaped and was on the run eatin'. Keep holding it down in the 'Pen for us.

Jasno's Blackberry analysis -- unedited:
One sentence, three errors; that puts Jasno in the elite group of crackberry operators. We may have to change his name back to Jason soon.

Posted by: cload & daggar | August 12, 2008 9:11 AM | Report abuse

Skinz - Cindy/Jasno meant that Tubbs might not be able to play for a couple of months and would take a valuable roster spot during that time.

Thanks, Barney, for translating...sometimes Jasno and I get caught up in fubballspeak.

beep beep -- and I'll have an answer on the safety dance/question.

Typical skins fan, wants to know the passer rating rankings in pre-season, HAHAHAHA! Don't worry my friend Cambell's soup will be down near the bottom during the season, you know when teams actually game-plan and have starters out there so don't buy super bowl tickets just yet!!! Donkey!

Hey RI Roster,
I cracked up laughing through your post.
Great idea coming up w/ the RI Roster, practice squad and who has no chance.

I posted quite often last season, throughout free agent period, and draft, but following the draft I was rarely to be found on here...

Though you place me on the practice squad, I can handle it. Having read through many posts and interacted much last season I have a quite confidence that our head coach Jason LaCanfora knows my value to this team. I am not concerned; I'll be on the final roster.

Again, great idea, lots of fun reading it...
