First Call for Skins-Lions Game Day

There's a chance that routine blog maintenance will prevent you from posting from 8 to 10 a.m. Sunday morning. That's an outside estimate; usually, maintenance goes more quickly than that. Hope this doesn't inconvenience you too greatly.

As usual on game days, you can join the blog community, follow on twitter (Redskins Insider) or sign up for mobile text alerts (text REDSKINS to WPOST [97678]).

If your computer does not allow you to see the Predictify widgets above, you can go here and make your predictions, too. Predicting there has the added benefit of tracking all your predictions, so if you do well, you have proof when you brag to friends.

Dauphine, go home! Long day tomorrow; you won't be able to wrap up the story until about 1:35!

Yeah, PSU looks good this year. That is a red sight to behold in columbus tho... should be a great game.

4thFloor - I am the "original Karen." If you mean the one who started posting ~10 or so months ago (if I'm thinking right, cuz I think I started after ST's passing; RIP ST#21) and always signed my posts as "Karen."

I think this will be the game where we see if we are really playing down to our opponents. I think the Rams were better than their record, considering their whooping they put on the 'Girls. Cleveland is also a good team when things click, since they smashed the 'ints. Everyone else we've played was respectable, if not quite good. Since this is our first game against a very inferior opponent, it will tell us if we have what it takes to not play down to our opponent, and therefore crush people on the scoreboard.

Posted by: JesusFreakKaren | October 25, 2008 8:38 PM | Report abuse

Exactly Karen, time to show peeps they need to worry about CP and JC.

One knock on CP, if you can find one, is not breaking big TD runs. You will notice he puts two hands on the ball when he gets through his first cut and first line of denfencers.

Good safe play, but then you cant do a noraml hard cut on a faster LB or Safety.

So we need big plays from the passing game. I see 8 catches for cooley.

Posted by: Zeebs | October 25, 2008 9:00 PM | Report abuse

JC kinda locked in on Cooley last week, tho. Almost got tagged for it, too. Plus, that was the 2nd week Cooley fumbled, so Im not sure wtf is up with that.

Really Id like to see Davis involved more, since our best formation appears to be the single back with 2 TEs and 2 WRs.

If he can work the middle seam a bit more in the traditional TE role, he could potentially be the first draft pick to really help out with his size.

Plus, putting a guy in the middle of the field draws back the Mic and pulls down the safety, possibly opening up the deep stuff even more.

Posted by: mattsoundworld | October 25, 2008 9:13 PM | Report abuse

Yeah, our lack of shots downfield is a little disconcerting.

Someone asks Zorn every week, and he either says we did takes shots (that Davis 30 yarder to the 5 yard sideline, which I dont count as a deep play) or the play was changed or JC took the shorter route.

Either way, PA is the best way to move a safety. I have yet to see JC stare down a safeties read andf then look off to the other read. He moves well through his progressions, finding the open man, but he either doesnt have the time or experience to look off the safety... yet

Oh well, I will take good dump offs, no ints and sound spreading of the ball to open recievers than one or two big plays downfield every other week.

I think the lions are suspect in many categories, and it should be 'slower' for JC when reading their coverage.

ANd that is why I think we tell JC to try and 'fit' a couple in there to force it a little. He knows when nopt to throw it, lets start getting him to realize when to squeeze it in there.

I guess Im with you, too. Its not sexy, but its working.

I keep saying that our run game bodes well for playing late in the season. Hopefully come playoff time our front 5 will be just pulverizing people into the turf.

I also like the SA signing in that respect. Cheap, but you know if he starts tasting the playoffs he is gonna go flat out for a chance at a ring. Not sure how long Betts will be out, but if he comes back, we'll have to cart defenses outta the stadium in the 4th quarter.

WEATHER MIGHT BE A FACTOR . . . AT FORD FIELD
Posted by Mike Florio on October 25, 2008, 10:01 p.m. EDT

Here’s some interesting news for a slow Saturday night.

Per this video at NFL.com, the weather could be a factor on Sunday when the Redskins square off against the Lions.

At Ford Field.

“Winds will be gusting upwards of 20 miles per hour,” says the Accuweather.com weather lady. “That could play a big role in the kicking game at Ford Field.”

Yes, it could. If they remove the roof from the place between now and game time.

We realize that everyone makes mistakes. But more than one or two people surely had their fingerprints on this video. It’s amazing that it didn’t occur to at least one of them that Ford Field is a domed stadium.

Yeah, and his f-in cell went off during the taping, and then left a one-beep message. He kept grabbing at it in his pocket while talkijng to Justin jackson...

Dont they tape delay that S.... sad, sorry production...

Why would they do maintenance on the blog right before the game anyway? o.O

Posted by: filmchis | October 26, 2008 12:13 AM | Report abuse

I have a feeling all blogs are on the same 'voices' server... so sunday, a normally slow news and posting day is the day one would normally pick

Posted by: Zeebs | October 26, 2008 12:16 AM | Report abuse

What ever happened to professionalism? To checking facts, turning off cell phones?

Dunce does seem to fit.

Yep,I dont know what the new keywords look for, so dunce was about as salty as I was going to get.

The fact that he dedicates,... dedicates a segment of his show to alert his viewers that the 'sourcer' is naming sources... it is mind boggling. Because you are probably stoking peeps interest as to what this person (his arch nemesis JLA has to say)... if I didnt already read RI, I would... b/c everybody knows he is the owners hand picked 'voice' of the skins... he doesnt have a brain of his own, and he bends over to whatever the 'script' for the day is on his show.So he os giving people another reason to look at another viewpoint... plain dumb, and smacks of lunacy,,, which is why I will side with JLA and his sources more often than not...

Like I said, it sucks to have to watch him, cause he has access they dont give to anyone else... save for Strawberry Shortcake... Pdiddy can attest, there is no denying her!!!

This comment is a carryover from the previous post - some commenters had questions about what TCCLs are and how they started. Here is the explanation:

TCCLs started as way of implicitly criticizing Dan Snyder (which is pretty much why JLC does most anything on this blog).

A few years back, after Tom Cruise started getting bad publicity related to his beliefs in Scientology (and one of the infamous incidents included jumping up on the couch on Oprah), Sumner Redstone - the head exec at Paramount - ended his business relationship with Cruise. Soon after this it was announced that Dan Snyder had decided to invest money in Tom Cruise's movie production company. Cruise then started appearing socially with Synder, and came to some 'Skins home games.

And soon after that, JLC started making fun of Snyder's decision to invest in "crazy 'ol Tom Cruise," and TCCL's were born as a way of reminding everyone that Snyder, Cruise, and the 'Skins all share a connection.

And now, of course, this story only reminds us that once again, JLC's work is motivated by personal grudges rather than simple reporting.

Wait a sec...it's closing time out west. There has to be a left coaster stumbling out of a bar right now, firing up their portable technology gadget thing-a-ma-whats-it that can miraculously talk to this fine Al Gore creation.

4-12, sounds like you didn't prep for the dead shift quite right... gotta start drinkin about 6PM Saturday, so you can slump over the console by 3AM.
Easy Money!

Thanks for the weather story, Curz. I hope JLaC will address how the wind will affect the kicking game today in his next blog.

I agree with Karen that today will give us a good read on Skins' killer instinct. Rams were much better than their record, coming off bye with new head coach. And the Browns are a very competitive team. I think the Lions are a step below those teams. But, on any given Sunday, ...

I'm holding my breath to see how we come out in the first Q.

HTTR!

Oooooooookaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeee.

My keys to the game for the Redskins

1. Arrive
2. Set Horton to 'Orlovsky' Mode
3. Set Portis to 'Shock and Awe' Mode
4. Score TDs to take the wind outta the kicking game

Posted by: mattsoundworld | October 26, 2008 10:50 AM | Report abuse

First Skins possession, second down, Moss(or ARE) in slot, Thomas flanked wide. Moss does a 5-yard hook, JC pumps to him, then lofts a deep side-line to Thomas. And then we see how fast he really is!

Hey, cload. Fear not, that was only a fleeting appearance yesterday. I really did take the day off. (Stayed up watching baseball; big mistake. Had to get the venti this morning.)...Looks like blog maintenance worked....4-12, you really were here at 5:21 am?

Posted by: CindyBoren | October 26, 2008 10:59 AM | Report abuse

I hoping in this game, the skins start off throwing to build a big lead. Portis, Moss, Cooley, JC should be able to sit on the bench for the majority of the fourth quarter. Spread these bamas out early and let's roll.
