A Scoreless First Quarter

Jason Campbell doesn't look right to me. That short third-down throw was not him. He didn't explode through the ball. He isn't moving well. I don't imagine the knee injury is all that serious, but it's clearly enough to have him off.

The Skins are beating themselves again - terrible penalties, Torrence not downing the one good punt of the game, short punts, special teams turnovers. They are getting crushed on field position.

I was shocked on the first drive, with them moving the ball well, that Zorn didn't go for it on 4th and 4 from the 35. The punters is in his first game in a while, Cribbs is dangerous return guy and Derek Anderson and the Browns offense looks awful.

Torrence blows a chance to down them deep and the Browns dominate field position ever since.

The Browns are so inept at this point - Anderson has done a 180 since Monday night; can't even throw an accurate screen pass - and haven't been able to convert anything from routinely starting drives at midfield. Braylon Edwards drop to end the quarter was ugly. He looked like the guy with no hands from the first three weeks, and not the guy torching the Giants on MNF.

Let's hope that's the worst quarter of football we will see today. That was putrid.

They are getting crushed on field position.

Please stop the hate JLC! They been 3 and out with 1st down. How is that being crushed?

Hold up! It's only the 1st QTR and we're getting instant analysis?

Crazy....

Davis has great hands as a WR.

Where's my Fred Davis fly Pattern TD off PA?

Posted by: Realness1 | October 19, 2008 4:59 PM | Report abuse

The problem is that I've been a fan long enough to to remember the days of adjustments. And half time adjustments.

Today's Skins? This may be what we look at all day.

Kudos to the D and our offense/ST blows. Yin/yang.

Skins O hasn't done anything since that Sellers penalty.

========================================
It's not being crushed, the score is nothing-nothing.

On the other hand, it's just like last week. The D is playing great, which is just barely making up for the rest of the team.

Go D! Score points!

D's going to have to come up with some turnovers because the O can't move the ball.

Posted by: talent_evaluator | October 19, 2008 5:03 PM | Report abuse

Carlos may officially be a shutdown guy.....

Posted by: 4thFloor | October 19, 2008 5:03 PM | Report abuse

D holds again we need to move the ball!...... Sorry about that blatantly obvious statement.

Posted by: mofass79 | October 19, 2008 5:03 PM | Report abuse

I guess no change in Randle El at returner...

Rogers came to play.

jm,

I hate to defend Jasno, but he's right: we're being crushed on FIELD POSITION. We haven't had a good starting position all day, while the Browns have started a couple of drives on our side of the 50.

Posted by: talent_evaluator | October 19, 2008 5:04 PM | Report abuse

DC needs to play up to its God given abilities and hustle.

Posted by: Realness1 | October 19, 2008 5:04 PM | Report abuse

Need to string a couple of those passes together.

Posted by: mofass79 | October 19, 2008 5:07 PM | Report abuse

Gonna take the D to get a turnover.

Posted by: talent_evaluator | October 19, 2008 5:10 PM | Report abuse

This offensive game plan isn't working so far. I'm sure they'll gain more rushing yardage in the second half. That's how it always is for this team. But they have to take some shots down field. There's too much complacency and boring play calling today. Take some chances against this team. Skins lost last week because they wouldn't attack a terrible Rams secondary. Browns are better, but they have to get the ball down the field. And I'm not sure why they're running on third and three with Cartwright. He's not a good runner out of the backfield. Why sign Alexander if you're just going to run Rock anyway? Sometimes I question the use of the personnel.

Posted by: CDon | October 19, 2008 5:11 PM | Report abuse

Looks like lame play calling to me.

Posted by: Skins930 | October 19, 2008 5:11 PM | Report abuse

hello Ga8085,
I honestly think Zorn was thinking four downs.
That is, if Rock picked up two yards he would have gone for it on 4th and one.

But seeing it was 4th and 3 he did the right thing and punted.

Posted by: RedskinRay1 | October 19, 2008 5:12 PM | Report abuse

Where's the O?

Posted by: MrRedskin21 | October 19, 2008 5:12 PM | Report abuse

Hopefully the Redskins can stop them here and try to score before the half.

If not, the Skins get the ball in the second half.

Posted by: MrRedskin21 | October 19, 2008 5:16 PM | Report abuse

Steven Jackson rushed today for a buck 60 against that Cowgirl defense!

Good point, but something has got to happen here. They have to get more aggressive on offense, especially to take advantage of the way the D is playing.

FYI, Brody Croyle is out for the season.

Posted by: Realness1 | October 19, 2008 5:20 PM | Report abuse

Reggie Bush will skip the trip to London (England, not Fletcher), heading instead for an appointment with James Andrews....that would seem to indicate his knee injury is fairly serious, no?

Well, then theirs is getting worn down more because we're leading them in time of possession -- 14:39 to 12:39.

Posted by: talent_evaluator | October 19, 2008 5:22 PM | Report abuse

Man, this could be a scoreless half; ugly!

Who would've thunk it after road wins in Dallas and Philly!

Reggie Bush heads for an exam by James Andrews rather than going with the Saints to London (England, not Fletcher). Would seem to bode ill for his knee injury....

Posted by: messykat | October 19, 2008 5:35 PM | Report abuse

Only on D.

But I think Campbell is hurt. You don't stretch a Groin on the sidelines for no reason. And he hasn't attempted anything deep, except the gross misfire to Davis.

Posted by: TheCork | October 19, 2008 5:36 PM | Report abuse

True TE. They got to come out and score. Browns Rogers should be worn out by the start of the 4th period.

I think this no INT thing is being overstated.

It sounds good til you realize we have to go back 3 games to find a passing TD.

so you're saying you'd LIKE an interception?

Posted by: TheCork | October 19, 2008 5:39 PM | Report abuse

Well all of you screaming for a change at punter, HAPPY NOW? As most of you know timing is essential for the snapper, holder, and kicker but all the knee jerk reaction to get rid of Brooks might just comeback to haunt this team against a beatable Cleveland squad and doesn't Romeo Crennel look svelte in his sideline attire? Hopefully Jason will get sharper in the second half and we can take advantage of another cowgirl's meltdown.

Very silly question, Cork. Of course I don't want an INT. But it's become the soundbyte du jour of these announcers and it's boring me.
