Pashos's agent says no deal is in place

There were reports Saturday evening the Redskins agreed to terms with both Artis Hicks and Tony Pashos, which still could happen. But as of now, Hicks is the only new offensive lineman headed to Ashburn.

"It's not true. It's not true," Pashos's agent, Rick Smith, said before I could ask a question after contacting him on his cell phone. "He left the building. He's headed to Cleveland right now."

Okay. But is Pashos close to signing with the Redskins? "We're nowhere near close," Smith continued. "Like I said, he's headed to Cleveland."

Can't BMW take care of that whole side of the line by himself?

Hicks Reflects on New Situation
The Vikings’ loss is the Redskins’ gain. Veteran and versatile offensive lineman Artis Hicks signed a three-year, $9 million deal with the Washington Redskins, where he will play in a familiar West Coast offense and zone-blocking scheme.

“I like the system that they’re implementing. They’ve got a plan that fit and I just felt like it was a good fit for me, so I jumped on board,” he told Viking Update.

He is expected to have a chance to compete for a starting job at either guard or tackle.

“I felt like I had an opportunity to go out and compete for a starting spot, as opposed to automatically being penciled in as the sixth guy,” he said. “That makes a huge difference for me. After you’ve been out there and had a taste of it, there’s nothing like it. You always want to give yourself a chance to get back there in that position again.”

They should take a LT in round one. Any of Okung, Trent, Bulaga would not be much of a reach. But if they wait til round 2 there's slim pickins for LTs and maybe even Ducasse is gone. Whereas you know at 37 someone surprising will fall to you and you want to be ready to take the BPA. For instance, if FS Earl Thomas worries people because of his lack of size, he could be there.

I'm guessing Pashos wants to be penciled in as starter and Shanny and Foerster aren't guaranteeing any of these guys anything except a chance to come in and compete.

Well, two in the house. This year should begin to show what the BMW really has. Last year's weight loss, had to have sapped BIG MIKE's stamina. Let's see what he's like this time around.

Sounds like they've got a solid back-up in HICKS.

They should look at ED WANG OT, MATT MCCRACKEN LG if either falls out of the draft, and CECIL NEWTON C JAX JAGS.

Pretty obvious, their choice at #4 is going to have to be an OT if they can't land one of these front-line tackle FA's.

Which is perfect.

I'm guessing that Pashos wants more money than the Skins are willing to pay him and that his agent says "Cleveland will give you more."

They have a plan A, a plan B, a plan C ... for BMW, they have to have a plan E, which is to stock up on extra linemen in case BMW eats any. (You know the story, Mr. Jr. OL shows up for practice after two racks of ribs, and BMW finally cracks...)

Yeah, he left town telling his agent "that's not the same Redskins the guys have been talking about."

http://www.newerascouting.com/mock-draft/

Mock has Skins taking Okung and Pouncey.
Can't see Pouncey with Rabach signed up.
Still available in this mock:

Ducasse
Jahvid Best
Asamoah
Spikes

I think folks can stop smoking crack.

I see on various boards and feedbacks comments about Hicks being a good backup for the Redskins and a guy Chad RINEHART is going to compete with for the RG spot.

BALONEY!

Hicks is easily the best OG on this roster not named Dockery right now, pending any other moves in FA.

NONE of the players on the roster before today are starting caliber.

I think we saw that last year.

Williams or Montgomery might have a future at OC but they are not guards.

And there are still two large holes at tackle.

Posted by: leopard09 | March 6, 2010 9:40 PM | Report abuse

Let's see...

We have-

Levi Jones
Stephon Heyer
Artis Hicks
Chad Rinehart
Mike Williams
Derrick Dockery
Casey Rabach
Edwin Williams
and that dude they signed that used to play with Denver

I think we'll be pretty solid and deep at Guard

Edwin Williams looks like a keeper at C/G.

Heyer is a good depth player and may spell you a few games as a starter.

Levi Jones...I thought he played pretty well for coming mid season.

I think O-line will play better, but it also depends on the QB play...

Trade back for Bulaga, Davis or Campbell and Rolando McClain?

leopard-

I disagree on one point...I think Mike Williams is a starting guard in this league.

2nd that, it's not about guaranteed starter status... The agent's statement "We're nowhere near close" is a pretty obvious tough negotiating posture about... $.

I wonder if Lendy Holmes can play FS. He played CB and WR at OK, in addition to S.

Posted by: skinfanman | March 6, 2010 9:50 PM | Report abuse

I'm not seeing much of a change so far looks to me like they want a QB with the 4th pick. signing 8th and 9th yr linemen, draft one so we can have for the next ten instead of the next 3! Until the line is fixed no QB will win very many games with us.

Kareem Moore is a free safety. He is on our team. He is improving and was a pretty good safety in college.

To me that would be the best case scenario for the skins. Just because Rabach is signed doesnt mean he just as easily cant be cut. They have already brought in Wiegmann and they supposedly have interest in Mawae, Pouncey plays OG as well and he is familiar with the zone blocking scheme.

Just goes to show that no one really has any idea what we are going to do at #4. Half the people think were setting up for OL the other half QB. No one knows dick.

A better line plus, in time, a QB who makes quicker reads will make a much more effective offense.

"Levi Jones...I thought he played pretty well for coming mid season."

RR-

He was terrible giving up 6 sacks, 14 QB hits, & 19 QB hurries in 9 games. He was statistically tied for 75th out of 77 ranked lineman. He should only be counted on as depth and not to start.

I was just thinking that if LL is moved to SS the Skins are really deep there with LL, Doubty and Horton. But only Kareem is there at FS unless Lendy can play there, too. And I wonder whether they might try and pick up a FS in the draft, especially if a good one is there in round 2. Or might they shock us all and take Berry #1.

Posted by: skinfanman | March 6, 2010 10:01 PM | Report abuse

Scott- Moore was a 2008 All American @ Nicholls State.

Positives: Has a shorter than ideal frame, but possesses a wide body with solid muscle tone, a well-developed upper body, good shoulder width and arm muscle definition, wide back and thick calves … Compensates for a lack of explosiveness with good field vision and instincts, as it is rare to see him caught out of position … Tough and physical wrap-up tackler who is a willing supporter vs. the run … Better playing in the zone than in man coverage, as he reads routes well and is always in position to make the play … Shows good ability to close and make tackles in the open field … One of the hardest workers on the team, reminding some of the Rams' Corey Chavous for how quickly he grasps the playbook and has learned the game in such a short time … Plays with good effort and intensity, bringing his arms with force to wrap and secure the ballcarrier on the perimeter, staying low in his pads to take out the opponent's outside leg … Even though he lacks height, he tracks the ball well in flight, showing elevation and extension to high point the pass, secure the ball and elude opponents for additional yardage on the interception runback … Takes good angles and uses his hands effectively to defeat blocks, avoid trash and make the play inside the box … Can impact an opponent with crunching hits and does a good job breaking down in space … Very quick to diagnose the quarterback's moves in the backfield, showing valid instincts and awareness in his charge toward the ball … Takes proper angles in pursuit, sliding down the line while keeping his shoulders square … Has enough agility to get to the flat and has a good feel in his pass drops to gain leverage … Shows sharp ball anticipation skills working in the zone … Has soft, natural hands for the interception … Efficient and disruptive blitzer who will force things to happen when closing on the quarterback.

Negatives: Has adequate timed speed, but lacks explosiveness closing on the ball, as he fails to open his hips (bit stiff) and keep his balance turning and running to the play … Will take wasted steps in transition … Does not play up to his timed speed and was not used often in man coverage as a result … Corrected a bit of a hitch in his backpedal, but would turn smoother if he did not get so high in his stance … Lacks the ideal height you look for in a free safety, but has a thick frame and good power to compensate … Best making plays in front of him, as he needs to gather some when having to recover when a receiver gets behind him … Will lose some jump-ball battles vs. taller receivers because of his height … Has limited experience as a starter (two years) and played against inferior competition.

That right baby, if you want to start you gotta earn it!! No more freebies cause you're the highest paid horse in the barn. Everyone has gotta earn their keep. Pashos, get a grip and come to your senses. This is not the Washington of old. You may be able to pull a fast one like they did in GB on Clev but as you can see we are not taking the bait like we use too.

Posted by: ajb1094 | March 6, 2010 10:50 PM | Report abuse

I think that they will pick Okung with the 4th.
If they had signed Clifton then they would have gone after Clausen or Bradford. Levi Jones did not do so bad last year. The offense imoproved a lot once he was firmly in place, but he is old. If this was 4 years ago we would not be talking about a LT if Jones was on the roster.

Posted by: vasco44 | March 7, 2010 10:07 AM | Report abuse

Pashos would start unlless they signed someone else to the roster. There is no one barring a miracle that would beat him out on the roster. So it's got to be the money.
