Redskins reportedly reach out to Saints regarding Jammal Brown

While the Redskins' need for an offensive tackle is no secret, the franchise may not look to the draft to solve the problem.

According to a league source, the Redskins have reached out to the New Orleans Saints regarding the availability of the two-time Pro Bowl and all-pro offensive tackle Jammal Brown - a proven player who could immediately solve the Redskins' need at left tackle.

Brown, a restricted free agent, missed all of the 2009 season after undergoing surgery to repair a sports hernia and a hip injury.

According to the source, the Saints would not be opposed to moving Brown, who has not signed his one-year qualifying offer of $3.619 million and told the New Orleans Times-Picayune he does not plan on attending the Saints offseason conditioning program - which began Monday.

Without Brown in the lineup, the Saints did not suffer a letdown along the offensive line, allowing just 20 sacks in the regular season with Jermon Bushrod starting at left tackle and behind a winning the Super Bowl behind a pass-heavy offense.

Brown was selected 13th overall out of Oklahoma by the Saints and after being named to the All-Rookie team at right tackle moved over to left tackle where he was charged with protecting the blind side of quarterback Drew Brees. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2006 and 2008.

Use the first round pick on the best kicker available. Then give the rest of our picks (both?) to whichever team takes fat albert off our hands.

Other than the fact he is from Oklahoma and those guys seem to break when you touch them, I like it. Hope it goes down without losing AH

hard to believe the first pick in the 2010 Draft is a QB that only completed 39 passes on 69 attempts for only 2 TDs for the whole year!!
Not bad for a 50 Million dollar guaranteed Contract.

Posted by: SkinsneedaGM | April 22, 2010 7:50 PM | Report abuse

I told ya'll about Brown....we give them Haynesworth....straight up.

Posted by: rickyroge | April 22, 2010 7:51 PM | Report abuse

Jammal Brown would be fine by me. That would allow us to get Eric Berry at 4.

I would almost encourage that. Brown has only been in the league 6 years, and his injury was for a hernia, not a blown out knee or anything that could be nagging. Add to that he's been a 2-time pro-bowler, I'LL TAKE IT.

Bulaga -- he was the only OT they didn't bring in. It fits Shanny's mold of not talking to the guy he REALLY wants if Shefter is right.

I am concerned that Trent Williams has a history of a severe concussion at the end of the 2009 season. I thought this would come up more in the pre-draft analysis, and I sure hope the concussion problem is not recurrent.

Posted by: kman2 | April 22, 2010 8:01 PM

both, as well as a center. this past season, he played left tackle.

Other than maybe to hold clipboard for a few years for Tom Brady, Brett Favre, Drew Brees, or Peyton Manning, its looking like Jimmy is going to fall to the second round. Ouch, Mel Kiper!
