Shanahan's message -- to Portis and others -- comes through clearly

During the recent NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, Coach Mike Shanahan stressed he expected all players to report for the voluntary conditioning program that will begin Monday at Redskins Park.

Apparently, Clinton Portis got the message.

"Oh, I guarantee you Clinton will be there," Shanahan said Thursday night during a media availability session at Morton's in Tyson's Corner. "I know Clinton too well. He'll be there and kick-off the offseason on the right note. I want my leaders to be there, and hopefully we'll have 100 percent participation. If not, I'll be disappointed."

Shanahan, General Manager Bruce Allen and owner Daniel Snyder each briefly addressed reporters before attending a dinner for the Redskins' charitable foundation. Usually among the most aggressive teams in the league at the outset of free agency, Washington has taken a more deliberate approach this offseason under the direction of Shanahan and Allen, which apparently is fine with Snyder.

"They've got a lot of work to do to figure it all out," Snyder said. "[They're] great guys; lucky to have 'em."

Running back Larry Johnson currently is on a two-day visit with the team, and Washington earlier Thursday signed blocking tight end Sean Ryan. The Redskins also have added versatile offensive lineman Artis Hicks and nose tackle Maake Kemoeatu, who is still rehabbing after having two surgeries to repair an Achilles' tendon injury he suffered in training camp, since the market opened. Much to the disappointment of some agents, Washington did not pursue the few top-tier unrestricted players.

"I'm very satisfied" with their plan, Shanahan said. "We have a gameplan and it takes time. We've got a plan, it's not going to happen overnight. We just have to watch the plan take place.

"But we're going to try to get better every day. It's a process. You're not going to do it overnight, but you have to try to do the little things the right way. Hopefully, we can get it done."

The Redskins still hope to bolster their offensive and defensive lines and improve at linebacker and in the secondary in free agency and the draft. As for finding a complement for Portis, who missed the second half of last season after suffering a concussion, Johnson once was a premier power runner.

"Obviously, I've watched him from afar for years," Shanahan said of Johnson. "I coached Larry in the Pro Bowl. I like Larry. I'm a big fan of his."

And Snyder seems to be a big fan of the men now charting the Redskins' course. "It's really not about the past now. It's about the future," Snyder said. "When you look at the pedigree of Bruce and Mike and everything they're doing and their experience, we're in good hands."

Its ever more apparent how truly lame vinny and zorn were.

Redskins had competed fairly well, even while losing... until the first game on national TV that BA watched from the booth immediately after he was hired.

The players left no doubt they were not behind Zorn and were not willing to play or put out for him to try and save his job.

It was more like "BA, get this lame azz freak outta here and get us a real NFL head coach".

And Snyder seems to be a big fan of the men now charting the Redskins' course. "It's really not about the past now. "When you look at the pedigree of Bruce and Mike and everything they're doing and their experience, we're in good hands. Unlike the previous several years when I was smoking crack and put Vinny in charge"

This change of direction in free agency is all part of the offseason derby for fan appreciation. Snyder has taken so much derision from the Post and fans about spending his way to a championship, that he probably directed "Bruce and Mike" to go easy this year.

I don't think it's hands-off at all. It is a calculated move to win back the fanbase with what the fans want -- restraint.

Just because they didn't make any splashy moves in free agency doesn't mean they'll get anything worthwhile in the draft or through trades.

Skins will still have a mediocre season next year.

I miss Jim Zorn. guy used to make me chuckle.

I can't imagine Jim Zorn as a Superbowl winning head coach.

I can't even imagine Jim Caldwell as one either and I truly believe the Colts were out-coached by the Saints in the SB.

I know a lotta people voice disapproval and displeasure with the fact that QBs are judged by their winning percentage. Well so are coaches and they never even play a snap.

Everyone as in defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth and corner Carlos Rogers, who according to the NFL Network requested a trade. However, Shanahan met with Rogers and said they had a "great conversation."
“I’m a big fan of Carlos,” Shanahan said. "I asked him how much he think he'd be worth in free agency after this year if he never got a chance to play a single snap. He stared at me blankly - dumb as a rock, of course - and so I told him flat out that if he didn't stop pissing and moaning about his tender I would park his ball-dropping arse on the bench for the whole season."

Carlos' problem, aside from catching INTs, is inconsistency.

He's shown flashes of terrific coverage, but he just can't even put one fantastic season together. It's always for a stretch of 4-8 games.

Agent: Blount never planned to participate in March 11 Pro Day
Posted by Mike Florio on March 11, 2010 8:59 PM ET
In response to the report from Gil Brandt of NFL.com that Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount failed to show up for the school's March 11 Pro Day workout, Blount's agent, Zeke Sandhu, has contacted us to explain that Blount at no time planned to participate in today's session.

"LeGarrette has always planned to participate on March 18th and has advised teams and the school of this," Sandhu said.

So there you have it. Now, if Blount doesn't show up next week, then he's got a big problem.

The Redskins' attempt to find a complement for Clinton Portis continues today with the scheduled visit of Larry Johnson.

"Larry is extremely excited and anticipates having a great visit with the Redskins," Johnson's agent, Peter Schaffer, said in a phone interview. "And please don't read anything homo-erotic into the phrase 'extremely excited'. We all know my client is a raging homophobe, and I want to make that clear".

So what's the deal with Hicks, exactly? Whenever I read about him here, he's described as a versatile lineman. Whenever I read about him elsewhere, he's described as a backup. A backup who can play most of the positions on the line, but positively, definitely a backup. Is Hicks a serious contender to start at any position on the line for the 'Skins, and if so, what kind of performance can we expect from Hicks as a starter? Is he going to play like a backup, or like a starter?

Posted by: shekb | March 11, 2010 9:49 PM | Report abuse

I can still envision Blount being taken with our 5th rd selection. Big, strong, powerful runner.

I suspect MS likes a faster runner, like Montario Hardesty, 6'0" 225, 4.5 in 40, or Ben Tate, 5' 11" 220, 4.43 in 40. But those guys will be gone by 3rd or 4th round.

Someone mentioned LaMarcus Coker, 5' 10" 205#, 4.39 in 40. He may go undrafted, due to previous marajuana problem. Might be a real steal, if he has straightened out his life.

Random thought... So i've heard that the Rooney's up in Pittsburgh aren't very pleased with their Starting QB's decision to assault another women... not surprising... not my thought is, say he does something else and gets himself in more trouble, would you want him to lead the Skins?

I will say I feel that a lot of Ben's wins have come not due to his ability but that of the team around him... however no one out there would EVER say that he isn't a massive upgrade over JC17... so what do people think? If somehow we could get Roethlisburger without giving him the farm, is it worth it? I think its gotta be something we'd talk about right?

Still looks to me like offensive line, lots of talent and a deep draft. After that defensive backs ... and then hopefully, kickers.

Mista Mayor's reports appear a bit uninformed? Maybe he is still listening to Vinny?

I don't think they need linebackers. They are about to convert yet another DLine guy to linebacker in Alexander. YOU ALREADY HAVE Wilson, Jarmon, Carter, Jackson and Orapko AT LB/DE? Inside you have MacIntosh, Fletcher, Blades and now Lorenzo Alexander. I'm not sure there is room for anyone else unless they are a Larry Foote type of player.

On the defensive line you have Ends: Haynesworth, Daniels, Wynn. You've got NT/Tackles Montgomery, Golston, plus now Kemoatu?

I think you need safeties and corners Mista Mayor. That is the true key to the 4-3/3-4 hybrid that Arizona runs.

I'm not saying Big Ben didn't assault the girl in some way or another, but I'll bet you a lot of money she wanted it... Much like Kobe and the last women who accused Big Ben...

The thing here with him isn't if hes going to get into legal trouble, as I mean Ray Lewis KILLED A MAN and is still playing football... the issue here is his decision making, clearly on the field (As he throws more picks and takes more sacks than JC17), and off the field... as he has now put himself in this position twice in two years...

My point is, that people in Pitts are starting to turn on the American version of the clock and Im just wondering what people would think of having a child molester on the team...

No, no thanks.

It's clear that they want to move over to a base 3-4 with elements of the 4-3.

Carter doesn't fit in a 3-4. He's too small to play on the line, and isn't comfortable (is terrible) in coverage.

Better to trade him now due to his value rather than figure out how to use him in spot duty.

Trade him. Maybe the 3rd is a little too high....

Maybe a 4th (maybe a player) or a early 5th and a player.

If Shanahan and the defensive coaches manage to fix the offensive line and implement the 4-3/3-4 hybrid they won't finish 4-12. My feeling is that it will be 8-8 the first year. Campbell won't be the reason they don't do well. It will be the offensive line or the defensive backfield.

It sure seems like they plan on addressing both of those problems in the draft, through trades, or free agency before the season starts. The plan is to do some evaluation in the minicamps of what they currently have. Based on those evaluations they will make their next moves.

And I assume that is why 100% attendance is basically mandatory.

Carter for Carriker... I could buy that, we get another 3-4 DE and they get a quality pass rushing DE for their 4-3.

I think we could justify getting a pick as well (say, their 5th or 6th round pick) since Carter did have double digit sacks last year and Carriker hasn't really done a lot (statistically) during any of his 3 years in the league.

Say this conversation on a thread earlier today... when will we be cutting Sellers, anyway? Not till after the draft?

There have to be plenty of younger, cheaper fullbacks out there as UFAs or UDFAs with hands no less stone-like than his. Not sure why they are keeping him around at this point when they let all the other old timers hit the pavement?

Posted by: PDXskin | March 12, 2010 12:54 AM | Report abuse

PDX, I think they wait til after the draft if at all. Rebuilding this team is not a one year project, especially with this FA class.

If they find an undrafted FA that can replace him or someone cut from another team when teams are cutting down their roster, then maybe Sellers gets cut this year. Good chance we will be seeing him in a Skins uni this year.

all of this makes me think that this may be coach Shannahan's first power move - bringing in, or being rumored to be bringing in, a bunch of top tier free agents who he doesnt really intend to sign....but who would offer competetion to core veterans on the team, like portis, rocky macintosh, moss, etc, who may have otherwise "overlooked" a few O.T.A's and not taken the new regime seriously

I feel your pain but I've got to believe that teams move in cycles. Unfortunately ours has been a long and disjointed one since Gibbs 1 but I think we have a coach in place that can finally implement the sort of stability that has been missing in order to complete the cycle.

I'm having a bad feeling about your post.

How does anyone say that the defensive scheme of a team that's finished at the bottom of it's division 2 years running doesn't need tinkering or an overhaul?

The skins' defense is broken in that it collapsed late in games or couldn't get turnovers despite the sack totals.

Folks talk about following trends, but the league-wide trend not discussed is the use of 'confusion' to attack an offense's protection schemes.

Confusion that comes from an ever changing front 7 or clever personnel groupings allows a defense to force the offense into doing what it wants rather than the other way around.

And if you don't get what I mean, watch some tape of the ravens, stillers, and jets: those teams gets turnovers AND sacks.

Sellers filled in as a blocking tight end some last year after Cooley got hurt, so he could be viewed as versatile. My personal viewpoint on fullbacks is they should not only be great blockers, but they should be able to run and catch. Sellers ran the ball only a handful of times last year because he has shown a tendency to drop the rock. He doesn't have what anyone would call a burst. He was thrown to a bit more and he doesn't exactly have what I would call soft hands.

Envision this: Larry Johnson signs and he plays as a running fullback. Having he and CP in the same backfield would present a lot of problems for a defense. Add to that the fact that Johnson and Portis both can catch the ball in the flat, and it almost forces a defense to commit a safety in run support. Don't know if that's where Shanny's head is at, but I think it's a keen idea.

the Cardinals announced the signing of OL Jeremy Bridges to a three-year contract Thursday afternoon. Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. The 6-4, 326-pound Bridges played in all 16 regular-season games for the Cardinals in 2009 and had four starts at left tackle. In his first start in place of the injured Mike Gandy, he excelled matched up against Vikings Pro Bowl DE Jared Allen in a 30-17 Arizona victory. Bridges signed with Arizona early last September after playing three seasons with the Panthers. He originally joined the Cardinals in 2004 and played two seasons in Arizona after he was claimed off of waivers from the Eagles.

Bridges figures to compete with the promising Brandon Keith for the starting job at right tackle in 2010, with former first-round draft pick Levi Brown expected to replace Gandy, an unrestricted free agent who is not expected to return to the team. On Wednesday the Cardinals re-upped with TEs Anthony Becht and Stephen Spach

Very true.

My take is still that Blache's schemes were outdated and people took advantage of them.

3-4 is a scheme that does tho things: stops the pass first and takes advantage of who is supposed ot be your best athletes...linebackers.

The Redskins have one linebacker, and a superior DE who is playing out of position at linebacker.

I hope they find someone who can play there.

Hey, I was for getting depth - hell, starters - at left tackle, but you are right: the asking price was too high. I am concerned about left tackle, however. If the regular season started today, who is our starter? Heyer? Who is our backup? BMW? I'm not feeling good about that.

If they draft a LT in the first round, we're a little safer but let me point out that left tackles just coming out of college need time to get their game up to NFL speed. A lot of teams let them play a at right tackle and keep them there until they get up to game speed. I realize there are exceptions to this, but I am just saying just because you draft a left tackle, it doesn't necessarily mean you get a left tackle on day one. The team needs a plan "B" and right now I am not seeing a plan "B".

Only time will tell, but if CP26 is true to form, we'll soon hear him talking about how much he is looking forward to next season, how commited he is to showing up in playing shape, how much he appreciates the new coach, system and commitment to winning, and how he expects to lead to team back to greatness.

The guy is great at running... his mouth, that is.

But then through some sad convergence of fate and circumstance, we can also expect that CP26 will again be sidelined by another series of mysterious injuries and ailments that will prevent him from conditioning, practicing, playing or even tutoring some of the other players.

In fact, the only thing he'll be able to do is cash another $7+ million paycheck for less than 500 yards of offensive production -- while contributing a whole lot of dramatics, backbiting and negativity too. So much for leadership.

All in all, not bad work if you can get it, hey Danny and Shanny?

It's March and the Redskins always look good in March. Then it's all downhill. You can make all the changes you want but if you don't change the QB situation nothing will change on this team. JC played in every game last season. The team was 4-12. His inconsistent play is more responsible for the team's failure than any other player on the team. Don't make the same mistake this year.

"I saw a report a couple of days ago that quoted CR as saying he will be in camp on Monday, and is ready to go. Seems his attitude has changed since talking to Shanny."

His frustrations are his own fault.

He wants to paid like an elite corner, but he doesn't have the numbers to support a big money deal.

His arrogance is confidence without evidence.

The guy who has a legit beef but doesn't present it is Campbell.

Think of the beating and heckling he endured behind a porous line: if he's most guys, he'd say, "Hey, I took my licking, threw for 3,600 yards, and have been a good citizen."

"Pay me."

Thing is, there's doubts he'll get paid or be a redskin near year.

And his seeming lack of confidence is evidence that sometimes a guy has to be abit more arrogant, especially when it comes to money.

Couldn’t agree more. Not to mention that he didn’t know how to actually work them in practice. I can’t remember who it was (Rich Gannon or Jimmy Johnson maybe?) that said he watched on e of the skins’ practices last year and couldn’t believe how soft and ineffective it was. At least we know Shanny really knows how to run things and make guys work to be winners, not just collect a paycheck. The inmates will no longer be running the asylum in Ashburn.

"A year ago, members of the Congressional Black Caucus openly wept at Barack Obama's inauguration. Slowly, that euphoria has given way to frustration that his administration has not done more for black America."

What do Blacks expect from Democrats?

Democrats have been running our inner-cities for the past 30 to 40 years, and blacks are still complaining about the same problems. More than $7 trillion dollars have been spent on poverty programs since Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty with little, if any, impact on poverty. Diabolically, every election cycle, Democrats blame Republicans for the deplorable conditions in the inner-cities, then incite blacks to cast a protest vote against Republicans.

So why burn picks and spend money when you an get a young'n for the future?

This point is what's lost on the likes of L Foote, greedy agents, and others who think a payday is around the corner.

Vets should humble up in this atmosphere, take an incentive-based deal, and work to earn their money.

Redskins will be trading Campbell, Carter, their second round pick and their first round pick. Washington drafts Bradford at number one. http://views.washingtonpost.com/theleague/nflnewsfeed/2008/10/fenty-vows-to-have-redskins-back-in-city.html

"Mayor Adrian M. Fenty said during an appearance on "Washington Post Live" Thursday evening on Comcast SportsNet that he wants to have the Washington Redskins back playing in D.C. "as fast as humanly possible."

For all the people in d.c. please don't be offended when I say this, Marylanders and Virginians DO NOT want to come into the city for redskins games. The city street system is very poorly planned for handling the number of vehicles attending a game and the public projects that would need to be taken on would probably cost well into the hundreds of millions, new metro, new roads, more police, typically the local gov. pays for the parking facilities so they can be used in non game hours.

D.C. has barely been staying afloat for years now and bringing in a sports team is not going to change that but it will cost taxpayers a lot of cash.

Most importantly for fans, as of 2007 the population of d.c. is around 600,000, the population of the "dc metro area" is 5.3 million, so by having the stadium right on the beltway (like it is now) helps the vast majority of fans go to and from games easily and quickly. I shutter to think how many people who have been drinking would be driving around the city streets.

Point is stop the war cry for a dc stadium, dc is nice for museums and restaurants but bad for big events. And if they are going to stick it between the the ghetto and the wastewater plant like they did with the nats stadium, no thanks!!! I am not a fan of smelling crap while being stabbed.

And I want Beyonce Knowles down between my legs on her knees.

But we know that ain't happening.

I think if a major move is made to add a defensive player, though, figuring out a way to add Foote makes more sense than trading for Carriker.

In a worst case scenario, A Carter can play linebacker.

But if you add Foote, you have the 'backers you need and Carter playing end in some capacity.

It's a no-lose situation.

If you trade for Carriker, you lose Carter, and still don't have a linebacker.

It's a no-win situation.

The Carter for Carriker is the thing that shouldn't happen.

And this does not inspire confidence.... in that 2007 draft with the Broncos, Shanahan traded up to get 1st round pick (#17 overall) DE Jarvis Moss, who had a "character flag" on his record coming out of college. Moss now has 24 NFL tackles and 3.5 career sacks and doesn't start. He will struggle to make the Broncos roster this year.

Similarly, the Broncos 2nd round pick in 2007, DE Tim Crowder, was waived in 2009.

Alan4,
All you are offering is Jarvis Moss as a risk taken for a player with off the field issues and he's kept his nose clean since coming to the pro's. Brandon Marshall would have been the better example, but he has been a beast, so that wouldn't support your argument, now would it? Hell, yes, Shanahan has taken a risk for players who may have had question marks. I think he's had a great deal of success. When you're playing numbers on a roulette wheel you are going to lose every now and then, but when Shanny has won, he has won big. I say, let him burn a second round pick this year on someone who doesn't pan out and I am okay with that if he finds us a pro-bowl running back in the sixth round.

RedSkinHead, read the article, don't focus on my single example. More scary to me, though, is Shanny's draft history is not good. If he's going to overlook character, you would hope the players would be beasts.

I read (unsubstantitated) that Broncos drafted 63 players from 1999 and 2006, and only 3 remained on the team by 2009.

That's not good.

I forgot that part.

Then I am worried--but just slightly as St Joe too took risks and sheltered players with issues (look up D Manley, please).

Sorry, I couldn't get the link here at work, but I guess my point still applies. I don't care about his success in the draft, or in the fact that he signs players that are currently injured. The one thing that is relevant is he has won a lot with the personnel he has. Maybe the Shanahan version of a "player" fits a very small box. He seems to be looking for something beyond athletic ability - maybe its heart or fire. I don't know what it is, but I think we'll be okay. Even if Shanny has the final say on personnel matters, Allen has a loud voice, and I think he might be the voice of reason in some instances.

Since the welfare reform law expired in September 2002, Congress had passed six extensions, and the latest expired on June 30, 2004. Opposed by the Democrats are school choice opportunity scholarships that would help black children get out of failing schools and Social Security reform, even though blacks on average lose $10,000 in the current system because of a shorter life expectancy than whites (72.2 years for blacks vs. 77.5 years for whites).

Montgomery College [Rockville Campus] has a foootball field, and no longer has a football TEAM...
and could DEFINITELY use the money.

it is convenient to Metro so fan access would be convenient, and there are commercial Townhouses adjacent to the property that could be leased/acquired by Mr. Snyder to use as team satellite offices.

Also the Former Broome Middle School in Rockville would be private and spacious enough to work as a facility.

Not that I've given this ANY thought mind you...

There isn't one player that was available that by themselves was going to turn around the fortunes of this team for 2010.

The front office knows that. They are acquiring value free agents who like Hicks are either versatile and can play multiple positions or like Ryan are blue collar ground it out types that play a hard nosed 16 games.

Kemoeatu is the one player signed that has the capability when healthy of dominating a game inside. And so the Redskins are taking a swing at the fences in a limited context by signing him before he has completed his rehab.

If the Redskins had waited for Kemoeatu to get to 100% the price would have been a lot higher and Washington would have had other suitors to outbid for his services.

Evidently, both New Orleans and Indianapolis were interested in him.

If it came down to these bidders, do you think a healthy DT would have chosen Washington or a chance to go to a Super Bowl with the others?

moe, you're comparing apples and oranges, Carter cant play LB, he tried it in SF and it was abject failure, carter also can't hold the point as a 3-4 end, so in reality you're taking a guy who you have to find a position for, and trading him for a younger guy who can step in at the 3-4 end spot....straight up, I think its a good deal....

That's true, BT, but remember we are going to play a hybrid 4-3/3-4, so some of the time AC is needed. And if we keep switching around, he won't be as exposed. And he had a great year, so he is playing well. And he's a big plus in locker room.

If one is to believe the bible, so is touching a pigskin on the Sabbath. Speaking of touching, what are you doing following a sport that begins most plays with a man placing his hands in the crotch of another man?

So why don't you start an all-shotgun football league that uses nerf footballs?

That's my point.

And it's also why L Foote should remain on the radar: he might be the kind of player the FO breaks it's Code of Financial Omerta for.

We need a 'backer of Foote's caliber more than a de of Carriker's.

Bean and Red...

As i look through the posts here i see you think I said we should trade for Big Ben... again you two have trouble reading. Thats not what I said. I said, that Pitts owner and Gm's are frustrated with him... if he continues to be retarded and gets in more trouble, there are RUMORS they might release him. I just asked, what peoples thoughts would be if he was released... should we look into signing him... not ONCE did i mention trade.... you guys really are retarded...

As to Clifton Red... are you kidding me? It makes no sense to sign a 34 olineman who is the best option at LT for us, for 2 years or so if the contract is right? I never said for 21 mil... go back I said if we can get him at our price... We have NO other option and my point is banking on a ROOKIE Olinman is risky... why not have a vet there to teach him how to do it and hold the position until he is FULLY READY.....really learn how to read son... its becoming a bad habit for you to make incorrect statements about what I wrote simply because you cannot read properly... kinda sad actually.

moe, you're comparing apples and oranges, Carter cant play LB, he tried it in SF and it was abject failure, carter also can't hold the point as a 3-4 end, so in reality you're taking a guy who you have to find a position for, and trading him for a younger guy who can step in at the 3-4 end spot....straight up, I think its a good deal....

Posted by: BeantownGreg1

Beans, I find it a lil ironic that the new regime is so anxious to go 3-4 on D that they all but eliminate the strong suits of their two best pass rushers and guys who should only play DE--Carter & Orakpo.

The way it's set up now, they go into the season with a one of their two DE's playing out of position (Haynesworth), a nose tackle coming off two achilles ops (Maake) and only one linebacker playing anything close to his most effective position (Fletcher)

Its called "Keeping up with the Jones" ... 4-3 is so old school NFC East ... adapt or perish ... such as ... if the continuous rolling of head coaches over the past decade has shown anything, its that the new guy gets a freebie year to "re-build" for the Super Bowl the following year. [Zorn just wasted it peeling out 7 wins in his first 8 games.]

You're right, and it seems the defense is really more set up to run a bear '46' front with Kemo, Haynesworth, and Golston filling the guard tackle gaps.

The jets run a variation of this and a 3-4, but, again, it helps when you have D Revis out on an island.

We need a Foote type and Revis type to really make the switch work.

It might be risky to start a rookie, but at what you would pay him in that slot, you need to put him in there.

The only beauty of 4-12 is that you are pretty much working from the ground up. To me this means starting rookies instead of wondering if they can play in games that count, and living with the consequences. The rook might be shaky, but many players improve much more quickly by playing through mistakes as opposed to watching film.

I wasn't against a Clifton signing, but I have no issue with not signing him either. 21 over 3 is a lot of money, though I think it doesn't really matter much since there is no way in h e l l that a cap is coming back - labor unions never backtrack. Still, I understand if the new admin wants to sidestep the stop-gap thinking and just go with the young guys and find out what kind of hand they've dealt themselves.

I'm not going to exhume some week old argument. It's pointless because for a team that is the rebuilding status, it's counterintuitive to bring in old bamas that do nothing but stunt the growth of the assumed assembly of young talent you have on your team.

Dude you were banging your fist against your Mother's old oak desk screaming how the 'Skins were "BEGGARS" and how they HAD to make the deal.

I don't recall you talking about a different salary for him. What he was asking for, you were all for it because the Redskins were "Beggars".

On another note:

Clifton Red? -- was one of my homeboys back in the day. Light skin complected dude with freckles and red hair. Cool dude.

Posted by: RedDMV | March 12, 2010 12:04 PM | Report abuse

Shaun... I agree with you. I would love to start the rookie. But, what if he struggles, who comes in? What if he gets hurt who comes in? Who plays RT? Heyer? My point is that it never hurts to get talented depth if its in your price range. Clifton was not, but had he been, he would have been a NO brain signing. Red simply doesn't understand football... and thats ok, not everyone can handle the complicated issues it brings up, but I would appreciate him at least quoting me correctly when he posts... as he has continually taken my posts and turned them into some retard form only he could produce...

Great, until he's actually CUT from the steelers, it doesn't change the fact that this was galactically stupid....

Lets trade Betts, and Mason to the Pats for Brady.

See that...see how STUPID that is...thats the stupidity equivalent of your post....

The two party system was outdated at the turn of the century before last...it isn't GAINING efficacy as we go along, folks.

And while we're at it...the electoral college is outmoded as well.

We have PLENTY of population EVERY state these days...how about we just move to one SSAN = one ballot, one ballot = one vote which equals one vote, and the most votes win?

Or is that just too simple?

Now, let's all just go back to celebrate the Skins' owner making the best handoff anyone involved with the Redskins has made in 15 years, huh?
