Giants 16, Redskins 7 at the Half
From Dan Steinberg
The second quarter began with the Giants again moving the ball, sparked by a 23-yard third-down pass to Sinorice Moss, who got on the stat sheet before his better-known older brother Santana. But the drive ended with two incomplete passes, and the Giants settled for a 25-yard John Carney field goal, running the score to 13-0.
Jason Campbell --still without a completion in his new West Coast offense -- didn't even record an official attempt on the next drive, which brought three Clinton Portis carries, nine yards and another punt from busy rookie Durant Brooks.
Short passes and bullish runs moved the Giants into Redskins territory again before an incomplete pass and a stuffed Brandon Jacobs rush stalled their progress. Carney's 48-yard field goal made it 16-0 at the two-minute warning.
But Rock Cartwright's 50-yard kickoff return moved the Redskins into New York territory for the first time, and they took full advantage. Helped by a face-mask penalty, Washington ended the 45-yard drive with a 12-yard Campbell-to-Santana-Moss touchdown, the first of the Jim Zorn era.

We really need a TD or FG on this opening drive to keep it going.
What do you think was different on that last drive besides the field position? Campbell looked like he had a little more time, but maybe, just maybe, he's getting a little more comfortable.
I hope.

TE,
It's moot now, but I would have gone for 2 to make it a one score game. Making the PAT puts us down by 9. Missing a 2 PT conversion puts us down by 10. Both require two scores.

The Giants Completely pwned the Redskins for 26 minutes. I had the Special teams rated as a pick'em and Rock Cartwright came through big time.
Because of Rock the Redskins are back in this game. Now if Jason and company can show some life in the 2nd half the Skins can make a game out of this.

I was asked will Buges give JZ a ring around the neck?
Interesting question.
Don't know.
Perhaps, Danny or Vinny will.
On the other hand, JZ may ring the neck of each of the DBs if they don't start defending some passes, instead of being content to simply tackle Giants after they easily catch the pass.

Where's TE? Now's the time to see if his prediction comes true.
Posted by: scampbell1975 | September 4, 2008 9:11 PM
Hang on, you'll see. Although he would have had a better chance at two picks if he'd started.
Posted by: talent evaluator | September 4, 2008 9:14 PM
I'll settle for a pick 6

I'll take that too

Giants are just monster size.. and beat'n the cap out of us.. their offense will just pound us into oblivion from here on out and their defense will stop us dead... time to watch the hurricanes...

I'm suspecting a heard of front running d0uchebag fans to come up here tomorrow with that "I told you so" nonsense... if they lose.
Even if someone predicted the 'Skins to win 8+ games was just being optimistic. Everyone knows they're more likely to win between 4 and 7.
Oh and I hear Gints fans BOOOOOOOOOOING already... talk about front running d-bags.

Maybe Cerrato should hire Ed Hochuli as the team's strength coach and get rid of Hans and Franz because they ain't getting it done.

Marcus Washington is next. He does know his defense is being humiliated, right?
Al Michaels: the good thing about playing on a Thursday is that Fred Smoot has all weekend to party on the Potomac.

I was referring to a Back Judge (BJ) that would call all of these holding penalties...well no I wasn't. Just trying to clean it up. SJK.

It looks like it is going to a long year. Campbell is totally lost and the run defense if pathetic. Luckily we are some how still in the game.

ARE with a typical 20 yard run back -- all sideways.
Posted by: talent evaluator | September 4, 2008 9:21 PM | Report abuse
Too much speed in this league to run sideways on a punt return. First 2 steps need to be straight ahead, then look to cut left or right.
Posted by: frediefritz | September 4, 2008 9:22 PM | Report abuse
This team does not have the talent or depth to compete and win. SIMPLE AS THAT.

Madden just echoed my thoughts from earlier...
LaRon Landry will be a f'n beast in this league.
Now that Madden said it everyone else (nationally and non-skins fans) will believe it now.

I'll call it. Fleaflicker to ARE who sends it downfield to Cooley, who plows into the end zone.
Posted by: Jenna | September 4, 2008 9:24 PM | Report abuse
yea it is like gibbs II, running the ball in the fourth quarter down to scores. Lets not try to win lets just try to beat the spread.
Posted by: jimmy the geek | September 4, 2008 9:25 PM | Report abuse
I say we're in 4th down territory.
In fact, we've been in it since the first quarter.
Stop punting when we need one yard.

Giants are crowding line of scrimmage.
they have absolutely NO RESPECT for JC.
They Feel JC CANNOT beat them
So they crowd the line and make sure CP can't.

the "o" looks flat- campbell does not seem to see the field. He looks lost. The line isn't helping either.
The skin's "d" is pretty flat too- predictable and easily bottled up on the line- full of holes in the sec.
Our new coach needs about six more weeks to get ready for the season.

run it to portis three str8 times again. get it to the fifty and on fourth and one punt it for the eighth time this game. oh ya and use that rookie punt who keeps netting 25 yards a kick. fiasco.

Is this the Petitbone-Turner-Spurrier circus rebaked? Campbell looks clueless and Zorn's play calling is about as imaginative as the new All-Play feature in Madden '09......forget the popcorn, you better get your Tums ready.......we are in store for some long afternoons this fall ;-(
Hail victory

Dear Jim Zorn:
Your cluelessness, play calling, clock management, and confused look on your face have sickened me. I don't care if it was your first game. As of right now, you stink. Next week, I may like you, but right now - you stink. You have embarrassed us all. I am ill.
