Skins Up 3 after 2

Jason Garrett, the Dallas offensive coordinator, is doing a much better job of getting Marion Barber involved regularly. He has been especially effective running pitch plays to the right side and also catching screens in a spread formation.

Garrett is starting to pick on the slot guys now, too. Dallas's three biggest pass plays of the half came to receivers who lined up in the slot (Springs, Torrence, and Marcus Washington, the three guys who play there the most, are not on the field for the Skins for various reasons).

The Skins'ill-advised challenge of the that touchback really hurt; not having a timeout int the final minute limited them to a field-goal attempt without even getting to take a shot anywhere near the end zone.

Should be a heck of a second half.

Madden is complaining that Campbell needs to go downfield.... and now ARE throws a wild pass out of bounds.

It'll at least open up the field a bit... but it needs to be Campbell to ARE or Moss.

ZORN BETTER TIGHTEN up, 5 balls thrown without going past the Line of Scrimmage!!! I'd like to think he's trying to set up something..... but I'm a little skeptical right now.

Posted by: michael_b_clegg | November 16, 2008 10:09 PM | Report abuse

wow, and to think we had a bye week for this on offense?
if the skins are to win this game, again they have to rely on the defense. seeing how AGAIN, we are not getting any pass russ from our defensive line, i don't see how the skins will come out of this game with a win, much less go far this season.
all the teams leading this league are pass rushers.
the cowgirls are moving the ball, and had it not been for the 2 intersections, we would be down 21-7 by now.

Posted by: JeanJak | November 16, 2008 10:09 PM | Report abuse

Still, you gotta appreciate that Jason is willing to try to thread that in there. Must trust the Zorn to enter the coast.

Perhaps Zorn's playcalling has been affected by teams having film on the DC offense at this point in the season. When someone's in your playbook, call the opposite play's for awhile.

So far, it's our heart versus their superior physicality. Romo has all day, while Campbell is being forced to rush everything. It looks a lot like two weeks ago against the Steelers, but good tackling, effort, and the dink pass is keeping it close. We are so desperate for some youth, speed and muscle on our lines, though. Our emphasis on flash, skill picks has left our underbelly soft.

we have been saying this season after season, the skins need to draft a PASS RUSHER. meanwhile this past draft, they picked 2 receivers and one TE, not one of which has done crap so far this season on the team, while the other receivers drafted by other teams in the 1st and 2nd round are contributing a great deal on their teams.
i can't even recall when was the last time the skins drafted a high defensive line player in the early rounds.
meanwhile, teams like the giants, cowgirls, steelers, and the patriots, the cream of the league all have invested in their defensive line.

NOTE TO THE DANNY: Give CP a huge raise, he's 75% of the offense tonight.

the formula to beat the skins:
1) keep the game close
2) the skins defense will do their part early but b/c the skins offense is non existent and unable to score in the red zone, if you get up on them it is over.
3) the skins defense can't rush with 4 as they have NO PASS RUSHERS they will then force to go all out on a blitz and lord and behold, you have an open receiver for the crucial 1st down, and they can't stop you when it really counts.
4) the skins offense can't score crucial TD in crucial time.
conclusion, the skins are OVERATED. the steelers exposed us and now the cowgirls have done the same for the fraud that we are.

it really doesn't matter now. we won't beat the giants, and if we are lucky enough to make the playoffs, WE WON'T GO FAR.
my sunday night is ruin and so is my week. frankly, these skins never cease to surprise me.
I WILL SAY IT AGAIN, IT IS THE PASS RUSH STUPID.

i seem to remember a time when we had dexter manley and charles mann to count on to get to the QB.
i seem to remember a team playing in the city where it was meant to play and not in some crappy stadium outside of DC.
frankly, snyder and viny the mafia is the worst thing that could have happened to the skins.
jason taylor - overated
jason campbell - overated
all of the skins drafted players this past april - overated and will probably won't be on the team after a couple of seasons anyway. afterall that is the skins way of doing things under vinny. one exception is #48.
for the life of me, i don't understand why vinny and danny boy keeps going after over the hill defensive ends who come to town to get pay.
jason campbell threw that last pick where we were already in field goal range. he then comes right after that and get sack well inside field goal range, which we ended up missing. that is 6 points we left near the red zone.
if the game is close, our defense will do their part, but they can't stop anyone WITHOUT A PASS RUSHER without having to blitz all out the opposition when it really counts. for the 2nd game in a row, the skins defense took that gamble trying to stop the cowgirls when we had to and lost.
if the defense cant stop the opposition when we are losing then the offense has to score early and keep the lead. once again, we fail to do that.

Get rid of Springs. Bring back Torrence. Why do we only have 1 dependable running back. Giants have 3. When the Giants play the 'Skins it should be rated "for mature audiences only". Too painful for children to watch.
