A Close One at the Half

Well, we've got ourselves a ballgame now and the Skins fought back and won that quarter, but man, Suisham has to make that field goal. That's three straight games in which he has had a miss that was within range. With the offense this starved for points, that can't happen.

The Skins are selling out to stop the run, which makes sense, but with a lack of a pass rush, Eli Manning has been able to carve the secondary. I don't think you can put it on the corners, entirely, for sure. Manning has 239 yards passing in the half.

On offense, the Skins might have to keep going for reverses and the like, because I'm not sure they can beat this defense straight up.

And, special teams have been very dissapointing, from the penalties, to failing to down punts deep to the missed field. That's the biggest difference in this game right now.

Let me be the FIRST to say GO SKINS!

First half over. Could have been a lot worse. Second half will be a lot better.

Posted by: talent_evaluator | November 30, 2008 2:42 PM | Report abuse

Jasno - what kind of weak post is that?

Posted by: mohammed10 | November 30, 2008 2:42 PM | Report abuse

Let's hope for a better SECOND half.

Posted by: Alan4 | November 30, 2008 2:43 PM | Report abuse

Take some shots down the field to Moss and Co. in the second half. The Skins can't go conservo cause Manning is having a field day out there.

Posted by: ga8085 | November 30, 2008 2:44 PM | Report abuse

In range at the half... need maximum effort... 30 minutes of lust for mayhem, please, with a side of offensive efficiency!

Posted by: daggar | November 30, 2008 2:44 PM | Report abuse

Did Manning throw an INT in the first half?

Posted by: jiacinto | November 30, 2008 2:44 PM | Report abuse

Jansen has another bone-head false start, he's soo done, where is Heyer?
Thrash can't cathc a cold. J Taylor looks better, still not planting the QB, suisham??? wtf!!

Posted by: lsskinsfan | November 30, 2008 2:44 PM | Report abuse

Let's go guys. This is our half. This is where we win the game and step up.

NFL Gamecast has Plaxico Burress throwing a pass for a 20 yard loss?

Posted by: swowra | November 30, 2008 2:45 PM | Report abuse

It goes without saying, but.... YOU CANNOT MISS A FG LIKE THAT!

Posted by: abtassler | November 30, 2008 2:46 PM | Report abuse

James Thrash needs to make that catch, period , exclamation point!

Posted by: jrb947 | November 30, 2008 2:46 PM | Report abuse

In the CLE game they intercepted Manning. That's the only way that I think that WSH can win this game. They need to intercept or force turnovers.

Posted by: jiacinto | November 30, 2008 2:46 PM | Report abuse

Take some shots down the field to Moss and Co. in the second half.

yes, if Jason was given enough time, that would make sense. He'll be taken out in a body bag if we try that all second half. Get Jansen out of there!!!

Posted by: lsskinsfan | November 30, 2008 2:46 PM | Report abuse

Poor guy shoots himself in the leg and gets hit with a -20 yard pass play.

That's just harsh.

Posted by: swowra | November 30, 2008 2:46 PM | Report abuse

TIME TO LET #21 emotion to carry us to this victory...... this could be the kind of booster we need to run the table....

Posted by: michael_b_clegg | November 30, 2008 2:47 PM | Report abuse

I'm so tired of the kicker missing crucial field goals and dropped passes in vital situations(Thrash and Randle El)..these one could certainly haunt us.

We need to find a way to win this game! Someone unexpected is going to have to step up.

Posted by: cosomfla | November 30, 2008 2:47 PM | Report abuse

Why did this game get the D list announcing team?

Posted by: austin987654 | November 30, 2008 2:47 PM | Report abuse

SWOWRA,

I SAW THAT, but HE WAS CREDITED WITH THE COMPLETION........

Posted by: michael_b_clegg | November 30, 2008 2:48 PM | Report abuse

Hopefully our D won't be wasted by the 4th quarter. They've expended a lot of energy. Suisham short kickoffs, missed FGs in recent games--not good when you hardly score TDs.

Posted by: gatorz | November 30, 2008 2:48 PM | Report abuse

I think Jasno is way off...there has actually been a good pash rush today...problem is, the Giants have gotten a lot of yards on screens because of it.

Posted by: svxcountry1 | November 30, 2008 2:48 PM | Report abuse

FINALLY made it back home from trip out east.

GO SKINS!

Can we please have analysts other than homers Troy Fakeman and Moosehead Johnson covering Skins games? They are so anti-Washington, it is shameful.

Cle was also 9-13 on third down, put up 454 yards of offense, and held the ball nearly 5 minutes longer than the Gints. It wasn't just their defense that did it against the Gints, their offense produced.

Posted by: freakzilla | November 30, 2008 2:58 PM | Report abuse

Typical Redskins. Here they go again. They just gave the NYG the ball at the 50 yard line.

Why do they always make stupid mistakes? This is what I was mentioning to Talent Evaluator in the last thread. It's stupid mistakes like this that never seem to end.

Posted by: jiacinto | November 30, 2008 2:58 PM | Report abuse

nice penalty. What about the push in the back by the guy next to the return guy?

Posted by: Curzon417 | November 30, 2008 3:01 PM | Report abuse

Typical Redskins. This is the exactly the same cr#p they always do. That missed FG really stings right now. It's the same old cr#p all the time.

Posted by: jiacinto | November 30, 2008 3:01 PM | Report abuse

And now look for the Giants to go up 20-7 or 16-7 now.

Posted by: jiacinto | November 30, 2008 2:59 PM | Report abuse

The problem isn't the Gints getting 16 here. The problem is us being stuck at 7.

Posted by: Alan4 | November 30, 2008 3:02 PM | Report abuse

Zorn can't catch those 5 dropped passes. Not sure how the offensive game is moronic. Only given up 1 sack.

It will be 20-7 NYG shortly. That stupid 15 yard penalty is what did it. Can't this team ever do anything right? I'm so sick of having to go to work and not having bragging rights.

b_clegg. I stand corrected

Posted by: vze2bnyf | November 30, 2008 3:05 PM | Report abuse

I am ill. We don't have to be losing this game. Mistakes and lack of execution

Posted by: austin987654 | November 30, 2008 3:06 PM | Report abuse

Is it too early to start thinking about the draft?

Posted by: az_david | November 30, 2008 3:06 PM | Report abuse

The same old sh!t strikes again. So now I'll have to go to work and have the NYG fans rub it in. How many times in the last 16 years has this team always managed to give up winnable games? Meanwhile Carolina is winning against GB.

So yes I am cynical somewhat. I just hate watching these games, only to see the team blow winnable games.

Stupid mistakes happen over and over again. The Missed FG, the messed up INT, the failure to catch the ball, stupid penalties--these always seem to happen at the wrong time to let the other team win.

What is there to be positive about? The season will probably end today. And don't get me started about the Pete Kendall fumble earlier this year.

Same old cr!p. Doesn't anyone here ever get sick of it?

Posted by: jiacinto | November 30, 2008 3:06 PM | Report abuse

JC would have 4 more receptions and 100 more yards passing if our GD so called receiving corps could cathc the Fing ball when it hits them in BOTH FING HANDS!!!

Posted by: SkinsfaninKaneohe | November 30, 2008 3:06 PM | Report abuse

I just don't understand how this team play with no emotion some times. They need to suck it up and just balling. We can still pull this out.

JM220

Posted by: icetotalpackage | November 30, 2008 3:06 PM | Report abuse

The only thing not getting the 15 yard penalty would have done is to make that TD drive 15 yards longer. The Giants just know how to attack and execute. They're calling a smart game.

Posted by: fan-o-matic | November 30, 2008 3:06 PM | Report abuse

if they don't score on this next drive, its over.

Posted by: rachel216 | November 30, 2008 3:07 PM | Report abuse

O needs to do a better job and Jasno is right about the teams, not sure we can afford that many mistakes, need them to help us get ahead not drag us down. . .

Posted by: skinsfan8KaboveMSL | November 30, 2008 3:07 PM | Report abuse

I like the skins D, but i think they play too much BASIC stuff.. Teams seem to key in on certain things and know what Defense there in too often... Not sold on Blache

Posted by: cocodc1 | November 30, 2008 3:07 PM | Report abuse

If we don't answer with a TD, that's it

Posted by: austin987654 | November 30, 2008 3:07 PM | Report abuse

If we score a TD, it doesn't seem so bad, does it.

What do you expect when you give the Super Bowl champs the ball at midfield?

The offense now has to produce TDs, plain and simple.

Posted by: Alan4 | November 30, 2008 3:07 PM | Report abuse

F zornys west coast offense!

Posted by: dealer1 | November 30, 2008 3:04 PM

Right! The WRs would hold on to the ball much better in an east coast offense.

Posted by: talent_evaluator | November 30, 2008 3:07 PM | Report abuse

Sick of stupid penalties. Sick of basic errors. Sick of blown assignments. Sick of the west coast offense. Some linemen next year, please? Oh, and a WR who can catch the ball, a punter that can land one inside the 20, a place reliable kicker.

Imagine this team with CP on, say 750-800 yards this season? Yuck.

Posted by: stevebeagrie | November 30, 2008 3:08 PM | Report abuse

Every game has dropped passes.

Posted by: dealer1 | November 30, 2008 3:08 PM | Report abuse

No heart. Defense cannot stay on the field all day. And add to that all the friggin STUPID penalties. Our offense is pathetic, anemic...whatever. Best bet is maybe sneak into the playoffs. We are not capable of coming from behind. Very discouraging performance

It doesn't matter where they get the ball. The other two TD drives were 70+ and 60+.

Posted by: tonyc | November 30, 2008 3:09 PM | Report abuse

we got no shot at winning this game. Sorry - this team has no heart or killer instinct. they don't know how to blitz - when ever they do, they just run and bump off the blocker and fall down. we NEVER get to the qb -ever. Our Dline is like swiss cheese. Our LBs are small - and slow. And, we have no outside threats. It's that simple. we are very average and predictable.

Thats why we will loose and ocntinue to loose.

I think jlc wanted to know why you don't extend Campbell and rogers. Both playing like crap. I also think it's time to start blaming coaching fir the constant mistakes, lack of execution etc. Not sure you can keep blaming a draft, ownership etc. Giants players are "coached up."

Posted by: Lacantwrite | November 30, 2008 3:11 PM | Report abuse

Giants had the one penalty that overturned that Campbell pick earlier. That's their only penalty.

Another 3rd and short that the Giants should convert. I think I need to accept the fact that this season's shot--and that the team still sucks.

Posted by: jiacinto | November 30, 2008 3:17 PM | Report abuse

Giants just want it more...period

No heart by this team - none

Posted by: mohammed10 | November 30, 2008 3:18 PM | Report abuse

boom, boom, boom, crunch, run over the d line - again....

Posted by: dieyoudogs | November 30, 2008 3:18 PM | Report abuse

That last INT was costly. Score there and the game is close. Now the game is slipping away. The Skins peaked too early. A loss here will really make the playoffs a long-shot. It was nice while it lasted but the NFC East will finish NYG-DAL-WSH-PHL. We still need to address the issues that have always plagued this team - lack of pass rush, inability to score. Some of the other pieces are there. Disappointing.

Posted by: i155133 | November 30, 2008 3:18 PM | Report abuse

it needs to be said that this is getting close to embarassing and starting to look a lot like marion barber bowling over some skins en route to victory.

DAL does have to play NYG, PIT, and PHL still. So I would crown with the wildcard quite yet, but it looks quite gleam.

4th quarter...down by 13. If we get a punt...there's a very small shot. Otherwise, our prayer of a season comes down to a must win next week to lead up to some weaker opponents.

Posted by: svxcountry1 | November 30, 2008 3:20 PM | Report abuse

Looks like it's going to take another 4-0 run at the end of the season. :-/

For those who say Zorn doesn't go down the field, at least he's doing it today. My problem is that they've not bothered to establish the timing and chemistry needed for this earlier in the season.

Posted by: fan-o-matic

Have you seen the way our O-line plays, errr doesn't play? No time for any QB to make a long throw. O-line and D-line have to be the priorities. If Thrash is still the 3rd WR next year, can we have the Government buy out the Skins from Snyder? :)

Posted by: lsskinsfan | November 30, 2008 3:21 PM | Report abuse

what a flat effort..........

Posted by: chrislarry | November 30, 2008 3:21 PM | Report abuse

If the jints score again, watch our guys just roll over. WTF!! High school kids play with more emotion.
I was hopeful Zornmeister could overcome the disfunctional FO but the '08 run looks over. Why can't Snide-rrr wake up and get a professional GM who has NFL experience?
Friggity frig frig!

Posted by: ILikeSonny | November 30, 2008 3:21 PM | Report abuse

This is pathetic; basically, we can't move the ball without the use of gadget plays.

Zorn needs to take a long, hard look at himself after this loss.

5 losses this year, FOUR of them at home.

Wait. What am I talking about? We have no HOME.

FedEx is a vacuum.

Well, there's always NEXT YEAR!

just think how this is eating the danny up? I'd hate to be in his box right now. Little man is probably just cussing up a storm. At least i get a little enjoyment thinking about how this is eating at him. This guy couldn't buy a win to save his life.

Posted by: svxcountry1 | November 30, 2008 3:22 PM | Report abuse

We've moved from controlling our own destiny to hope for low chance scenarios. It's hard to watch but makes sense that this team will suffer from the previous problems because it was built that way by the previous coach and owner. It will take time to shift.

As for heart, I don't see quitters - just a team not as good as the Giants. The Skins can't afford to make mistakes and win against a better team. Missed opportunities will hurt.

Time of Possession after 3:

Giants 29:54
'Skins 15:06

Skins D already played a full game and we are just now going into the 4th.

Posted by: swowra | November 30, 2008 3:24 PM | Report abuse

Time to stop with the Sean Taylor references...let's look to the future and quit living in the past. Might as well start wishing for Riggo to come back or for a Beatles Reunion...give it up. Sean's dead man....

Posted by: 70Chip | November 30, 2008 3:24 PM | Report abuse

Giants are running all over us. They can push for the extra yard and first down, yet we can't. And I totally agree with Daggarforracialjustice... Landry has been run over today. Sean Taylor NEVER got run over like that.

Posted by: rachel216 | November 30, 2008 3:24 PM | Report abuse

stop blaming a loss on the FO...the players had some plays, they didn't connect. We have the talent...they just have to put it together.

Sean Taylor quit in the Rams game a few years ago. He gave up on a run by Steven Jackson and let him waltz into the end zone. The replays showed he gave up when he could have made a tackle...

True, but there sure seemed to have been a lot of emphasis placed early on on short passes. I don't know... too tired to argue the point. Sheesh... what a game.

Open your eyes SVX, we don't have the talent or else we'd be winning these close games. The Skins are my team too, but man you got to be realistic.

Posted by: lsskinsfan | November 30, 2008 3:27 PM | Report abuse

I can't watch this offense anymore. This is beyond pathetic. How many times are you going to run routes short of the first down. Time to take a nap and enjoy the rest of my Sun.,this is not even worth my time anymore.

Posted by: ga8085 | November 30, 2008 3:28 PM | Report abuse

You can complain all you want, but the defense is NOT the problem. It's all on the offense. I think Zorn is going to get better...just not this year. We need an o-line that can protect the qb and give him a little time.

Posted by: cosomfla | November 30, 2008 3:28 PM | Report abuse

stop this, this is painful to watch. STINKIN OFFENSE, stretch out Cooley, gotta give the D a rest! It's over, that was the drive we had to score on, the giants will hold the ball for 10 minutes.

Posted by: rachel216 | November 30, 2008 3:29 PM | Report abuse

Zorn had no voice in the composition of this team - he inherited the handiwork of Gibbs and Snyder (Vinny just gets pasta for Snyder). Blame goes to Snyder and his crew of sycophants.

If the D can stop on more third downs, they won't be on the field so long.

IF we get the ball again we can always do a "Roman Gabriel/Rams" and throw 4 long bomb, Hail Mary's in a row. Maybe the owner fellow will learn to pray?
