Skins Get Within 5 at the Half

The Redskins have changed the momentum of this bad boy completely.

They have run on the Philly D that was first in the NFL and giving up something like 2.9 yards per carry. The Eagles allowed some sustained drives, some long drives, and even though the Redskins settled for 3 instead of 7 at the end of thehalf, they've come back from what looked like it might be a blowout early.

Take away the Jackson return, and the Skins are owning this thing.

Jason Campbell settled into a groove in the second quarter after a brutal start and the Skins are doing a fine job of picking up the blitz for the most part, getting going on third downs now as well.

This should be a heck of a second half. If Andre Carter can keep up his fine outing, and Portis and Betts can deliver the kind of big runs to the edge (esepcailly on the left side), I like the chances of a comeback here.

"and even though the Redskins settled for 3 instead of 7 at the end of thehalf"

Are you kidding me?? You really think they should have been going for 7 in that situation?

I'm with you Beantown! Guys, give more info please. NFLN is way behind and espn980 is even further behind.

Posted by: Curzon417 | October 5, 2008 3:03 PM | Report abuse

I lummy some Redskins!

But I don't like the idea of buttoning everything together in the SECOND HALF of a game. Play to win, not to catch up.

I would love for Washington to win this game, because then the analysts, the rest of the league, EVERYONE will HAVE to take Washington quite seriously.

Posted by: patriotnumber18 | October 5, 2008 3:04 PM | Report abuse

Beantown Greg, go to Yahoo Sports Game Channel. It gives on-time play by play.

Posted by: learnedhand1 | October 5, 2008 3:04 PM | Report abuse

BTW, Realness, you have to switch rules 2 and 3.

Question for everyone:
My area is not showing Skins today, so I am listening to the Skins Broadcast team.

Did the Skins really think ARE might have gone beyond the line, or were they hustling to get Philly to use a TO?

Did TV broadcast say anything regarding this?

Posted by: RedskinRay1 | October 5, 2008 3:05 PM | Report abuse

Yes 'Los!!

Dag, how is the Sunday Tic? Worth the money?

Posted by: BeantownGreg | October 5, 2008 3:05 PM | Report abuse

**************************************
TOTALLY worth it! This is my first year and I signed up in July when I moved to Texas and got some crazy promotion so it's practically free (plus I get ALL the movie channels). Next year I'll have to buck up hte $250, but for hte 6-8 games I'll need it (going to 4 games and we have some nationally televised games), I would spend more sitting in a bar. Plus, my only TV option right now is Indy/Texans. And you can watch other games at the half - or if things get boring. I am a fan. Don't seem to get the Skins pregame stuff though for some reason.

Posted by: suzannepdc | October 5, 2008 3:09 PM | Report abuse

I don't get Sunday ticket (can't possibly watch any more fubball)... but got to see it last week when I was running the west coast fan experience)... I liked the red zone channel, and you never (? almost never, I guess) have to worry about missing a game.

Only at the cost of your firstborn. Seems like a fair trade to me!

Posted by: daggar | October 5, 2008 3:09 PM | Report abuse

I am curious as to why didn't the Skins for two-point conversation. A one-point lead is no worse than a two-point lead. Anyone have any thoughts?

Posted by: learnedhand1 | October 5, 2008 3:09 PM | Report abuse

C P!

Posted by: skins1110 | October 5, 2008 3:10 PM | Report abuse

Thanks guys.

Betts needs a few more carries...

Posted by: BeantownGreg | October 5, 2008 3:10 PM | Report abuse

I normally can spell the word "the".

We really need to score more points!

Posted by: suzannepdc | October 5, 2008 3:11 PM | Report abuse

I think too early for the 2. But I would not be irate if they had gone for it.

Posted by: skins1110 | October 5, 2008 3:11 PM | Report abuse

LH -- conventional wisdom is that you don't start consulting the "go for two" Ouija board until the 4th quarter.

Posted by: daggar | October 5, 2008 3:11 PM | Report abuse

time for a big gainer to Cooley!!

Posted by: Schroeder12 | October 5, 2008 3:13 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: patriotnumber18 | October 5, 2008 3:04 PM

We can't get to 3 w/o 2. never want to just trade scores, ideally. D must make stops so we can score more!

Posted by: BeantownGreg | October 5, 2008 3:18 PM | Report abuse

ugh...what a crappy punter....

Posted by: Schroeder12 | October 5, 2008 3:19 PM | Report abuse

Thomas PI call was an effort mistake. Can't be mad at that. He just started blocking too early.

Posted by: learnedhand1 | October 5, 2008 3:19 PM | Report abuse

This is ridiculous. I've never seen a WR called for som many Pass Interference calls. What a knuckle head.

Posted by: ga8085 | October 5, 2008 3:19 PM | Report abuse

Greg - did they just change the game from the Seattle/Giants game so you can see this one? Just curious who the "new audience" they're talking about is.

Posted by: frediefritz | October 5, 2008 3:24 PM | Report abuse

is it just me, or is porting running very well, but doesn't have that extra gear anymore? or is the eagles defense just that fast?

Posted by: spotter | October 5, 2008 3:24 PM | Report abuse

Sonny just said that is 4 straight 3 and outs for out D.

Doc Walker just said: I think we are ready to take over this game now!

Posted by: RedskinRay1 | October 5, 2008 3:24 PM | Report abuse

Gotta get a TD

I got cooley sittin on the bench. . .

Posted by: skinsfan8KaboveMSL | October 5, 2008 3:25 PM | Report abuse

Portis 23 carries for 131 5.6 avg.

Posted by: Curzon417 | October 5, 2008 3:26 PM | Report abuse

I think as long as we put up points this is a good drive skins, but a TD is a backbreaker.

Posted by: alex35332 | October 5, 2008 3:26 PM | Report abuse

Doh!!!!

Posted by: skinsfan8KaboveMSL | October 5, 2008 3:26 PM | Report abuse

Folks we DOMINATED the third quarter.
Now, we must get 7 because that would put us up 2 scores.
If we get only 3, a touchdown beats us.

Posted by: RedskinRay1 | October 5, 2008 3:27 PM | Report abuse

Now I see wisdom of kicking that EP. We score here, it's a 9 point lead rather than 8. That's why they chose Zorn over me.

Posted by: learnedhand1 | October 5, 2008 3:27 PM | Report abuse

backbreaker TD

Posted by: alex35332 | October 5, 2008 3:28 PM | Report abuse

We are running it down their throats why try to get cute, now we will have to throw on 3rd down and Philly knows it!

Posted by: daggar | October 5, 2008 3:28 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: RedskinRay1 | October 5, 2008 3:28 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: mofass79 | October 5, 2008 3:28 PM | Report abuse

I got Cooley playing on my work FFL - got me some good points today. knew he would get me some good points eventually.

Posted by: suzannepdc | October 5, 2008 3:29 PM | Report abuse

is it just me, or is porting running very well, but doesn't have that extra gear anymore? or is the eagles defense just that fast?

Posted by: spotter | October 5, 2008 3:24 PM | Report abuse

He doesn't. I noticed the same thing in an earlier game this season. No matter, long as he can still punch it in! TD!

Posted by: ga8085 | October 5, 2008 3:30 PM | Report abuse

btw. I don't know why people complain about Aikman. I think his analysis is pretty good and fair. he's been very positive about the skins today,.

They did just switch the NY game to this one.

I'm stationed at Luke AFB in horrible, boring, hot-ass Phoenix, and as soon as suzanne mentioned it, I left my Dorm to go see if it was this game they switched to.

Somehow, in between the 15 seconds it took for me to go from my room to the TV room, Portis got into the redzone on that one play. I missed it. Damnit.

Oh well. Clinton Earl Portis is just that fast.

Don't know if you all know it, but Philly only has ONE FIRST DOWN SINCE THE FIRST QUARTER.

H.T.T.R. The game ain't over yet, but I'm sayin it. As a matter of fact, I'll say it again.

H.T.T.R.

Posted by: patriotnumber18 | October 5, 2008 3:33 PM | Report abuse

So will WAS give it away? Anyway, though, even if PHL wins, WAS has played very well. I am hoping that they hold PHL to a FG here.
