Skins Trail 10-6 at the Half

Each team has been given some outstanding field position by special teams or their defense; the Steelers were the only team to get into the end zone after the blocked punt, and thus they lead, 10-6.

The Skins have to make some adjustments, obviously, after getting 66 net yards in the first half. They want to spread the field, but all four first-half sacks have come on three-wide sets or more, and given how few yards the Skins are generating, even a five-yard loss on a sack is a lot to overcome.

Maybe I am being too pessimistic. But we need to do something during the second half.

demonj21 I feel that we are trying to go to Moss too much. Get Cooley and ARE into the game. I think we can move the ball by going to them then hit Moss over the top. Jasen ass needs to block better.

Steeler points came from blocked punt and pass interference. Ours came from int and on sides kick. Both D's are basically shutting the O out. Zorn needs to do something to adjust and get the ball downfield. We'll see if he's capable against a stout D.

Posted by: austin987654 | November 3, 2008 10:18 PM | Report abuse

In the passing game I'd like to see more shotgun formation and some crossing routes. The D or special teams need to get skins a TO.

Posted by: TWISI | November 3, 2008 10:18 PM | Report abuse

Nothing about the blocked punt from Mr.Negative? Had that been Brooks' blocked punt, Mr. Negative would already have castrated him. But Mr Plakemeier can do no wrong.

Posted by: wagman1 | November 3, 2008 10:19 PM | Report abuse

Moss needs to return a punt.

Posted by: austin987654 | November 3, 2008 10:19 PM | Report abuse

Sorry, don't see what the issue with the punter is. He's kicking well tonight. The block wasn't his fault. Is there something I'm missing?

Posted by: gringoinmiami | November 3, 2008 10:19 PM | Report abuse

We need to start throwing some deep balls, after we figure our our pass protection.

Posted by: CindyBoren | November 3, 2008 10:20 PM | Report abuse

Wagman, I don't think the blocked punt was the fault of the punter. It was poor blocking.

Posted by: isnadd | November 3, 2008 10:20 PM | Report abuse

No way the blocked kick was on the punter. that dude took it right off his foot.

Sorry, don't see what the issue with the punter is. He's kicking well tonight. The block wasn't his fault. Is there something I'm missing?

No, you're not missing anything. He's punting well. He can't do the blocking too.

Posted by: austin987654 | November 3, 2008 10:21 PM | Report abuse

I'd like to see Zorn stick with the run some more. Obviously Campbell needs to step up and make some passes, but I don't think they should give up on the run, even if it's been pretty much shut down the 1st half.

Posted by: gringoinmiami | November 3, 2008 10:21 PM | Report abuse

BTW, how about Shuisham? The guy's really been stepping up this year. He nailed both those kicks tonight.

Posted by: gringoinmiami | November 3, 2008 10:23 PM | Report abuse

I know Pitt has a good D, but it's been awhile since our offense has clicked. Not just this game. WTF?

Posted by: austin987654 | November 3, 2008 10:23 PM | Report abuse

Punter's doing well? - one for 21 yds., another blocked, Sorry. Guess we're not watching the same game.

Posted by: wagman1 | November 3, 2008 10:23 PM | Report abuse

$@#!$ Rogers!

Had he caught that INT that was a pick 6! Changes dynamic completely. Instead he drops it, Pitt punts, skins go 3 and out as they have all night and we get the blocked punt turning into the TD.

Skins haven't gotten 1 first down all game. Regarldless of the D playing lights out, they have been on the field waaaay too long. Skins aren't gonna win this one this way, not even by a long shot!

Posted by: mrhanki9 | November 3, 2008 10:24 PM | Report abuse

JM220, I agree. I think we need keep trying to run the ball. The steelers look like they aren't tired because they are not doing much but stopping the pass. We need to worn them out even though we get little yards from the run. For now, the Skins look predictable.

Posted by: suzannepdc | November 3, 2008 10:24 PM | Report abuse

Right now the stillers don't fear our run. We need some screens and to convert some of those third downs. Then the run will open up.

Zorn needs to call plays with violence!

Posted by: Curzon417 | November 3, 2008 10:24 PM | Report abuse

Actually, before the blocked punt his average was 44.5 if I remember correctly. Also, what is he supposed to do, run to a sideline to punt and void the rush?

Posted by: JesusFreakKaren | November 3, 2008 10:25 PM | Report abuse

"Punter's doing well? - one for 21 yds., another blocked, Sorry. Guess we're not watching the same game."

The 21 yarder - if that's how long it was - was probably that punt that pinned the Steelers behind the 10 yd. line, if you were paying attention.

Posted by: gringoinmiami | November 3, 2008 10:25 PM | Report abuse

Ok first off I am not a pessimist this is the first year in a long time I like our teams makeup I even apologize for being down on Zorn at the beginning. that being said as solid as a Redskins fan as I am the Steelers are a good defensive team and is there anything been done in the first half that leads you to believe that we can outscore them in the second half?

Posted by: mofass79 | November 3, 2008 10:26 PM | Report abuse

Big Ben probably out. He's getting X-rays on his throwing hand.

Posted by: gringoinmiami | November 3, 2008 10:32 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: RGMBill | November 3, 2008 10:32 PM | Report abuse

Hey guys, if we can't get our offense going it doesn't really matter that the Steelers are up b 10. IF we can then coming back from 10 points down is definitely doable.

Strap it up.

Posted by: isnadd | November 3, 2008 10:33 PM | Report abuse

We've had a good run so far this year. We haven't been dominant, but we haven't sucked either. We're actually further ahead than I thought we'd be this year. Pittsburgh just has better players.

Posted by: junkiwonteverread | November 3, 2008 10:35 PM | Report abuse

I don't like this. Mainly because we hold them for two plays and then give up a big catch down the field, or right at the first down marker.

Posted by: JesusFreakKaren | November 3, 2008 10:36 PM | Report abuse

I wonder how the people cheering DAL yesterday felt. I told them that it would be better if DAL beat NYG, but everyone said I was wrong. I had a feeling the Redskins would find a way to ruin the game.

Posted by: jiacinto | November 3, 2008 10:36 PM | Report abuse

Look, if we don't pull something out and win this, it's not a big deal. I'll take 6-3 going into the bye week. Of course there are some big question marks with the offense, but they'll have a couple weeks to hopefully figure some things out.

That said, I hope we don't get totally spanked. And some kind of offensive revival would be awesome.

Posted by: gringoinmiami | November 3, 2008 10:36 PM | Report abuse

And we do know how to come from behind to win the game... we've done it enough this season.

But I am seriously bummed that we're STILL the cardiac kids. Why can't we ever play a good team and just DOMINATE them? I'd even be willing to settle for just dominating a BAD team....

Actually, forgetting the pick, which I really want to forget, that last posession at least gives some hope we might be able to move the ball.

Posted by: gringoinmiami | November 3, 2008 10:57 PM | Report abuse

Okay. Let's get the D in there and make it happen.

Sad that the INT-less streak is over. Of course, last week, a partner in my office thought that I had completely made it up that Campbell had not thrown a INT b/c that wasn't possible - then I told him that the streak for the team started LAST season.

THeyve resorted to blitzing every down now

Posted by: cocodc1 | November 3, 2008 10:58 PM | Report abuse

and the corner who can't catch gets burned on 3rd and 15

Posted by: mrizzle | November 3, 2008 10:58 PM | Report abuse

The O was moving the ball on that last drive. We need a defensive stop here and we can still win this game.

Posted by: Curzon417 | November 3, 2008 10:58 PM | Report abuse

Aussie, a bit of both... it was too high, and Portis deflected it up when he couldn't get it.

Posted by: RGMBill | November 3, 2008 10:58 PM | Report abuse

Lighten up Francis, I'm kidding about the Colt Brennan comments.

Posted by: isnadd | November 3, 2008 10:58 PM | Report abuse

Horton is a BEAST!

Posted by: Curzon417 | November 3, 2008 10:59 PM | Report abuse

Man the Skins' just cant catch a break at all. They are not playing bad ball. So far look at two plays; Rogers muffed int -- again -- (the man couldn't. catch a cold in an ice storm in Siberia) and the blocked punt. That Defense is getting a bit winded though. come on Skins!!!!

Posted by: renaw9 | November 3, 2008 10:59 PM | Report abuse

I want to thank some of you tard fans.....your lame comments are keeping me form getting down to much b/c I dont want to sound like you morons.....

Posted by: chrislarry | November 3, 2008 10:59 PM | Report abuse

Seems like the Defense can't get them out on 3rd down... :(

Posted by: RGMBill | November 3, 2008 11:00 PM | Report abuse

3rd down and SUCK

Posted by: vze2bnyf | November 3, 2008 11:00 PM | Report abuse

Honestly I dont remember too many skins over the past 15 years winning on Monday night.. Thats why i hate when they play Monday night.. never fond memories

Posted by: cocodc1 | November 3, 2008 11:01 PM | Report abuse

Plenty of time left.

Posted by: MrRedskin21 | November 3, 2008 11:01 PM | Report abuse

Good night all. See you after the break. If we can go 4-3 from here, we'll get a wildcard. Maybe even host.....lots of football left this season. If we lose tonight, we got beat by a better team.

Posted by: Schroeder12 | November 3, 2008 11:01 PM | Report abuse

Please, no more of this idea that carlos rogers is a pro bowler.

10-6 and maybe a playoff spot, thats it!

Posted by: tony11 | November 3, 2008 11:02 PM | Report abuse

I KNEW wearing those unis was a BAD sign for tonight. Hope they bury them!

Posted by: Lisa_R | November 3, 2008 11:02 PM | Report abuse

CL--On a side note, any signs of junior?

Posted by: talent_evaluator | November 3, 2008 11:02 PM | Report abuse

Anyone want to cover Moore?

Posted by: MrRedskin21 | November 3, 2008 11:03 PM | Report abuse

Can't let them Stillers get another td though that would definitely put this gameout of reach the weay our offense is going. Wow! look at play.....its over folks.

Posted by: renaw9 | November 3, 2008 11:03 PM | Report abuse

TE: No....

Posted by: chrislarry | November 3, 2008 11:03 PM | Report abuse

CL: Once this season already (NO) and at least once more (BMore) I won't be able to follow this game anyway other than here (I'll be in Miami both times). I'm not a "oh woe!" kind of guy normally... just tired of cardiac kids. I want to see us pull this out.

Darn it, what the heck was THAT play? That's the fourth bad play on Defense that was huge.

Posted by: RGMBill | November 3, 2008 11:04 PM | Report abuse

Yeah that blocked punt and the missed Rogers INT is what turned the game against WAS.

Posted by: jiacinto | November 3, 2008 11:04 PM | Report abuse

need some of that old 4th qtr magic. . .

Posted by: skinsfan8KaboveMSL | November 3, 2008 11:06 PM | Report abuse

I think we're just beat up and in need of a bye week. I am worried about Dallas being out for blood in two weeks since lots of their injured players will be back and they'll think they have something to prove.

Posted by: suzannepdc | November 3, 2008 11:06 PM | Report abuse

Yeah that blocked punt and the missed Rogers INT is what turned the game against WAS.

Posted by: jiacinto | November 3, 2008 11:04 PM

No, actually not. It was the offensive breakdowns and the inability to sustain a drive or score a TD.

Posted by: talent_evaluator | November 3, 2008 11:07 PM | Report abuse

1st and Goal PIT.

Posted by: cocodc1 | November 3, 2008 11:14 PM | Report abuse

What the hell has happened since that Blocked punt, the D hasm't made a stop by the looks of things, what has caused this massive turnaround in the game, it just doesnt make sense the Steelers seem to be hjust moving the ball as they please all of a sudden, why? is someone injuted? do we have anything that even resembles a pass rush at the moment??

Posted by: LeeCarney | November 3, 2008 11:15 PM | Report abuse

Outscored 23-0. Where is Jim Zorn and his genious? I hope most of the interested observers understand this is still a Gibbs product and a Gibbs' story being told. Get used to it.

People don't change, only attitudes. And this team is still a Gibbs incarnation and Jim Zorn is still learning. Jason Campbell may not be the answer but Jim Zorn is. Keep faith in your coach and tea,m but please, Danny don't pay your quarterback. Its a mirage, much like
Bruce Smith et al.

Jason Campbell is a FRAUD. Much like the Palin candidacy, once the tough questions are asked the sobering answerings tell the story. Please, please, Danny Boy do not pay Jason Campbell. It is fools gold.

And what we know about Danny boy, there's no chance he doesn't overpay for an underperforming overhyped....

Posted by: tony11 | November 3, 2008 11:42 PM | Report abuse

we need moss, taylor, samuels and springs back and healthy for the stretch. . .

so, does the skins game predict the outcome of the elections or do the polls predict the outcome of the skins game?

methinks the latter. . .

anyone remember the last mnf game prior to the bush/gore election?

eerily similar. . .
