Hamilton Cut, Says Doughty Will Go on IR

Barry Svrluga reports:

Defensive back Justin Hamilton said he was released today, and he added that safety Reed Doughty would be placed on injured reserve. Hamilton said he didn't know the extent of Doughty's injury until today.

"I didn't know till I got over here and spoke to Reed that he was placed on IR," Hamilton said.

Doughty, who began the season as the starting free safety, has battled a nerve problem in his back for the past two weeks. He had been replaced in the starting lineup by rookie Chris Horton, who led the team with nine tackles against St. Louis and has three interceptions and a fumble recovery this year.

Hamilton, a Virginia Tech product, appeared in the first two games of the season but was inactive for the last four. He said with all the activity at Redskins Park today he was hardly surprised at the move.

"I was No. 53 on the roster, and you got guys with injuries and position moves," Hamilton said. "It was something that I really could see coming, not today, but before the end of the season, because I was basically stealing paychecks. I didn't do anything. I put on a sweatsuit on game day. But I was very fortunate for the opportunity to be here. I'll be honest, I'm shocked I even lasted this long, made it to this point."

...

Jason La Canfora reports that the fourth punter at the park today was Jeremy Kapinos.

Got beeped.

I KNEW we should have kept TJ Duckett. Damn!!

Ok, now into serious mode. I think Betts is out for four weeks. Redskins are, as I type, 1 injury away from having a) only one healthy RB on the roster, b) having Rock as the starting RB and only RB on the roster. Obviously something has to be done.
We need to get an RB in here who can get 5-8 carries a game to spell CP. Rock could do that, but you are still gonna need another RB on the roster JUST IN CASE, and Rock is as already mentioned numerous times, a ST Stud. Would giving him extra work spelling CP detract from his ST duties? Maybe. Maybe not.

I think SA is the "safest" solution. You know what you are getting. Agree with those who said other teams didn't sign him were probably looking for an everydown guy...and that is not SA anymore IMO. As a spell and emergency guy, I think he is the safest way to go a this juncture. As long as he is not fat and out of shape...which is a big question mark.

Mason. Not as safe, but I think more upside. He is a young guy with good speed. Seems to me his problem areas are coachable, namely, blocking for QB protection. Another positive is his youth...maybe he could develop, and adding youth is not a bad idea for the Redskins.

My guess is they will go wtih SA unless he is toally out of shape. Last thing we need is for him to come in and then immediately get injured because he is not in game shape. At least Mason has been actively practicing and getting scout team reps for the Ravens.

Wow... I just heard on John Thompson's show that Adam "Don't Call Me Pacman" Jones has been suspended indefinitely. ESPN is saying at least 4 games.

It's all sarcasm these days, dealer, it helps me cope...

Whatever personnel issues we're having, the Skins gotta get back on track this Sunday by whomping the Browns. Just gotta.

Weird...two guys off the roster, only one on. Maybe they've got someone else coming in potentially.

Pac man suspended indefinitely..per John Thompson show

Posted by: TWISI | October 14, 2008 2:48 PM | Report abuse

From ESPN

Cowboys cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones has been suspended for at least the next four games of Dallas' season for his most recent violation of the league's personal conduct policy., the NFL announced Tuesday.

In announcing his decision, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Jones' "disturbing pattern of behavior was clearly inconsistent with the conditions I set for your continued participation in the NFL."

Jones was notified by Goodell that he is suspended indefinitely without pay as a result of his most recent violation of the league's personal conduct policy.

Hamilton wasn't even active as of late. Doughty was being fased out any way.

Look for Springs to play more as the 3rd safety maybe bring in an experinced DB who can also play special teams??

wow @ pacman news...luda and marky mark (he's shorter than matt dameon!!) on 980 this morning were saying pacman was at luda's party and luda hung out with pacman the whole night...and luda left before pacman got in a fight...pacman should seriously consider joining the scientology group cuz i think his issue is mental and they can help him...

Posted by: dealer1 | October 14, 2008 2:51 PM | Report abuse

Thanks JM.....

Jones is a certified pos. If the cowboys don't cut him IMMEDIATLY, they too are no better.

Posted by: BeantownGreg | October 14, 2008 2:51 PM | Report abuse

Hit refresh. It was easier and faster to sub this item out. Also, if you're at work, PacMan suspended indefinitely (with a minimum of four games).

Posted by: CindyBoren | October 14, 2008 2:51 PM | Report abuse

Durant brooks is in the top ten of both punts downed and punts inside the 20.

Seems brooks wasn't cut...but two roster spots have been opened up. one for a punter(can only hope that it's miller) and one for alexander.

wouldn't be surprised if leigh bodden from the lions is coming...signed a BIG contract to play in detroit from cleveland and is currently playing the nickel position now.

Posted by: dbussjd | October 14, 2008 2:53 PM | Report abuse

Shaun Alexander... Charmin Soft or Pillow Soft?

LOL

My thought is that they'll end up putting Kelly on IR too if he doesn't show improvement this week and bring in a FA who can contribute quickly.

Do you think Goodell would consider making it five, so it includes our game too?

Love the comments from Hamilton - just stealing a paycheck, wearing a sweatsuit on game days. At least this guy seemed to have a realistic take on himself.

Posted by: suzannepdc | October 14, 2008 2:54 PM | Report abuse

With these 2 moves that opens up 2 roster spots. I assume one is for Shaun Alexander and the other is for a punter? I wonder what we are going to do with Durant Brooks? Are we going to keep him? Place him on the IR? or Cut him which we would then have another roster spot. I wonder if we will add an extra safety for depth with Doughty now being out for the season.

In other news "Make it Rain" Jones has been suspended indefinitely. This means he is out for atleast 4 games without pay and after that time his suspension will be reassessed. I think this clowns NFL Career is most likely over. He will probably end up in prison and be able to join Michael Vick, OJ and Lawrence Phillips on the Prison Fantasy football team!

a) thinks wrestling is real
b)has a favorite male pornstar
c)bullies his girlfriend's little brother
d)hangs plastic testicles off the back of his truck

A) I stopped watching wrestling a few years ago, homie.
B)Yeah I sure do. Me.
C)Actually I don't have a girlfriend, well at least not offically.
D)I don't own a truck, fucc tard. I drive a Nissan Maxima.

if kelly, doughty, and brooks get IR, that leaves 4 roster spots potentially, when you include hamilton. two of those spots include alexander and a punter( i'll stress I HOPE IT IS MILLER) then two are left.

one can only assume that it would be a WR and a CB/S. However we are still thin at LB and offensive line.

Posted by: dbussjd | October 14, 2008 3:00 PM | Report abuse

maybe they're gonna bring up Richardson from the practice squad, he could play safety in a pinch and so could Springs, depth at corner would be nice especially with Tryon looking so bad in the preseason.

Hi all, did you manage to clear up all the cliff-jumpers after the Rams game yet?

Posted by: Redcoat | October 14, 2008 3:05 PM | Report abuse

Not really a big deal that Hamilton was cut and Doughty was placed on IR. I'm pretty sure we've only been dressing 3 safeties per game anyway, and it's not like we can use an inactive guy if one of those three gets hurt during a game. This really should only be a problem the week after (if) one of them gets hurt. Something that can be dealt with on an ad hoc basis. I'm betting the only reason that many safeties were on the roster to begin with is because every safety we have is young and inexperienced, and 4 out of the 5 were unproven to start the season. Now that we have Horton playing the way he is next to Landry, that need for 5 safeties is much more unnecessary. This shouldn't be a problem.

You are all First in my book - notice that I'm not holding my index finger.... [:-|

And I was complaining about Brooks from day one (same finger hoisted...)

I still don't see anyone eatin' crowpie! step toit!

Pacman: I was trying to figure out WHY he would be fighting his bodyguard in the bathroom. Anyone who frequents sleazy dives as much as I have should get a pretty clear picture here. It's similar to Marion Barry, remove one Crack SJK and a hotel room.

Posted by: DikShuttle | October 14, 2008 3:07 PM | Report abuse

If they are putting Doughty on IR, I would hope they are signing somebody to replace him. If they do this to keep two punters on the roster, then I will be extremely pissed!! Granted Springs can help at safety but that leaves us thin between CB and S. Get John Lynch, he is worth the investment.

Posted by: straub21 | October 14, 2008 3:20 PM | Report abuse

Maybe the open roster spot means they're going to sign a WR too.

They could bring back Mix. Or Terry Glenn, Joe Horn, Reche Caldwell, Keenan McCardell and Taylor Jacobs are all available.
