Haynesworth Leaves on a Cart (Updated)

The news is getting worse for the Redskins at Ford Field in Detroit. Washington defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth made a key sack of Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford on a third-and-five play from the Washington 14. But after Haynesworth landed on Stafford, he could not get up.

The Redskins' athletic training staff immediately tended to Haynesworth, who lay face down on the field before staff members could roll him over. Though we have no official word on his injury, it appears he is unable to put weight on his right leg. He was taken off the field on a motorized cart, hiding his face with a towel.

Cornerback Carlos Rogers has returned from his sprained ankle. Defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin was taken off the field in the first quarter, but he has returned.
Detroit kicker Jason Hanson kicked a 39-yard field goal immediately after Haynesworth left to give the Lions a 10-0 lead.

I love Clinton Portis, but he looks awful today... Rest him. Put Betts and AA in and let Portis heal.

And the D better get it together here. Another Lions drive starting in their 15... We gotta gets some sacks. At the rate the offense is going, we need six safeties to win this game.

Last thing I'm saying. People always want to talk about players not executing, being disciplined, etc, COACHES teach that. COACHES teach execution and make players accountable. COACHES are responsible for the way their team plays. Whether with confidence or tight or disciplined or sloppy. Right now the COACHES aren't doing their job. Anybody think the "easy" training camp and not making the players stay together is helping right now?

At the Caps' rookie season ticket holder event in July, Ted Leonois received the following question from the audience: "When are you going to purchase the Redkins?" The Redskins are impaired by poor ownership, in comparison to the Caps. Until the 'Skins ownership changes, the team will perform at a subpar level. As a Caps' fan, I invite all Redskins' fans to become hockey fans. Caps are the best franchise in town. It is fun to see a winner. If you are waiting on the 'Skins to improve, given Snyder's youth, you will be waiting for a very long time -- 30 years perhaps.

Haynesworth takes a cart ride
Posted by Mike Florio on September 27, 2009 2:05 PM ET
Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has been carted off the field in Detroit with a lower leg injury.

Haynesworth had a towel draped over his head and face as the vehicle rolled of the field, and though we didn't see the injury as it happened, there are few conditions that would lend themselves to such immediate dejection.

Early guess? (And it's just a guess.) Ruptured Achilles' tendon.

If so, he'd be out for the year. And even if it's something less serious, FOX's Brian Billick made a great point. For a guy so big, any injury to the lower extremities can be very hard to overcome quickly, given the stress that a large body puts on them.

Speaking of stress, the Redskins trail the Lions, 10-0.

UPDATE: Official Redskins blogger Matt Terl says the situation is being described as a right hip injury.

It's a sad day in Washington DC. This has to be the worst show of effort I've ever sen in a redskins team. I almost feel as if the players are punishing us for trashing them and the organization all week long on twitter and wapo chats like this one and are waffling their revenge on us. How are you supposed to motivate players to step it up when they get criticised after a win? I hate to say it but this could be the tipping point for me as a fan of this team in it's current shape and form. How much longer am I supposed to spend my time, money and energy supporting a team that's pretty much epitomised almost everything i hate about football in the modern era. Too much greed and not enough heart, from the field right up to the front office. It's a sad day for skins indeed. I don't think they can come out of a situation like this without having caused irreparable damage to nostalgia weary fan base.

Jim Zorn needs to be fired at the half!! The dumbass takes a 10 yard penalty after they stope them on a 3rd down allowing the Lions a chance to convert!!!! And they do -- they then go on to score 7!! Instead of giving up 3 and getting the ball back, the jackass gives up a touchdown. DUMBASS!!!!! He needs to go, so does Jason Campbell, and good ole Vinny. I was going to buy tickets for the KC game. The Skins can keep their tickets. I don't them. I WILL NOT give them another dollar until this stops!

Skins obviously have more talent than this. Whether you think 10-6 or 6-10 certainly better than this.

But this goes right at the heart of the coaching staff.

If this continues next week - as I suspect it will - Zorn is gone.

After Week #5, he's gone.

The fox 5 guys are saying the Redskins look like they have quit on the field.

Posted by: Flounder21 | September 27, 2009 2:37 PM | Report abuse

Michael Strahan sums it up at halftime:

The 'Skins have quit.

Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | September 27, 2009 2:37 PM | Report abuse

The only positive is that we may be one game closer to a coaching change. The only shame is that the haircut should include the village idiot, Vinny, as well. Hello Bill Cowher! (and you redskin diehards - don't think there will be any halftime adjustments - you have to have intelligence to make these!)

They do promote gamily values - you look for other things to do now on Sundays!

Posted by: 1of9000 | September 27, 2009 2:37 PM | Report abuse

If the game was 0-0, I would have been disappointed, but could accept that the offense is off and might begin to click as the season goes on.

What I've seen is our run game is horrible and our defense isn't very good at all. Somehow, JC haters will find a way to blame him, but this team has some serious problems at other key positions than QB.

Posted by: Alan4 | September 27, 2009 2:38 PM | Report abuse

QUESTIONS FOR YOU GUYS:

1) If the Skins could not score ONE TD in 10 quarters, any of you think they will find the end zone 2x in this game to win it now?

2) If the Skins D could not stop the Lions very potent offense with $100 million Haynesworth and 1st found draft pick Orapko, do you think they will now without at least one of those two (and possibly both)?

In other words, wake up and smell the coffee, this team sucks big time and could possibly be the WORST team in the NFL right now. We should all BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO or laugh at the situation. I say laugh b/c in all the years under Snyder, this team never seems to run out of ideas to outdo their stupidity with their decision making.

Posted by: JeanJak | September 27, 2009 2:38 PM | Report abuse

Rogers is hurt, Haynesworth is probably out for the year, Orakpro is hurt, the offense line is inept, the starting running back is useless, the starting quarterback has no star quality and the head coach is not able to motivate. If this is not a good time to start all over, I am not sure when?

I always believe what comes around goes around, and the way I am seeing the Redskins under the Snyder regime, I am really starting to believe that he must have backstabbed a lot of people while he was making his billions.

Posted by: JohnWWW | September 27, 2009 2:38 PM | Report abuse

This is seriously a disgrace. Man, if we were playing at home... last week's boos would sound like nothing. They should be thankful they're not at home..

Posted by: rachel216 | September 27, 2009 2:38 PM | Report abuse

I can only hope our players don't give up on this game and the season as quickly as the fans. I absolutely hate losing as much as any of you, but this same Detroit team was up 10-0 last week against Minnesota and looked well on its way to its first win. And last I checked, they did not get the W.

But even if we don't win this game, I am not giving up on this team or this season. 1-2 would obviously not be a good start, but the season would be far from over.

Hail.

Posted by: Barno1 | September 27, 2009 2:39 PM | Report abuse

I have completely lost faith with this organization. Snyder needs to let Zorn go tomorrow. Let Cerrato go at the end of the year. Start completely over...100% over. Trade Portis for a 7th round pick, give him away for free, I dont care, just get him out of here.

I would love to see Bugel take over for the rest of the season and let him retire as a HC for this organization.

Posted by: dank32 | September 27, 2009 2:39 PM | Report abuse

The post game show on comcast will be a hoot can't for the Q&A between Blache and Trevor Mattich, Dumb decision by Zorn in the first half to take the penalty and of course going for it on fourth down, hindsight is 20/20 but instead of 13-0 it would be 9-3 Lions had Zorn let Sean kick the field goal yeah i know we all wanted him to go for it but..........

Posted by: dargregmag | September 27, 2009 2:34 PM

That's because we're fans. Zorn's the HC, and I've always heard you take the points early in games. Later on they could've gone for it.

The Redskins appear to have quit. Since you can't cut the whole team you may have to sacrifice the coach. Problem is who takes over. As bad as the Def is playing I have to question Blache's ability. Heck maybe they will surprise us and come back and dominate the 2nd half.

Jim Zorn's halftime speech: Well guys this is looking medium we got them right where we want them in the middle. Clinton, medium work on that last run, there was nothing there and you did the medium thing just falling down for only a 3 yard loss, if you had fumbled trying to do something with it, that would be un-medium. D medium work, keep making them run it up the gut, keep the clock running. Lets keep medium and medium their keasters off.

I'm done sticking up for any of the losers on this team.

I went into the year ready to give Zorn and JC17 and a bunch of other guys the beenfit of the doubt.

There's nothing. No progress, no growth.

Problems on offense and defense are same as they were since last year.

If they were correctable, you'd think they'd be corrected by now.

Posted by: p1funk | September 27, 2009 2:41 PM | Report abuse

have to laugh at people saying "this isn't on JC" already.

The idiot has already thrown two dropped interceptions.

We've seen what rookie Stafford has done. For the Jets today, rookie Sanchez has run for one TD and thrown for another.

If only Dan Snyder was a better owner, perhaps Jason Campbell would fulfill his self-proclaimed potential, eh?

The bottom line: If this team doesn't do a 180 and win this game today, I think Wilbon is right and Zorn is on the next plane out of town.
