Haynesworth tops Redskins' inactives (updated)

Albert Haynesworth will be inactive for the Redskins' finale today in San Diego. Also inactive are: Richard Bartel, Devin Thomas, P.J. Hill, LaRon Landry, Marcus McCauley, Alvin Bowen and Curtis Gatewood.

There are lots of changes to the starting lineup today. The starting safeties are a pair that no Redskins fan envisioned back in August: Kareem Moore and Fred Smoot. With Haynesworth out for a fourth time this season, defensive tackle Kedric Golston will start next to Andre Carter. On the offensive line, Edwin Williams gets the start at right guard, and Malcolm Kelly replaced Thomas as the second receiver.

is there a reason?

"is there a reason?"

Yeah, Big Al tripped over his stomach again. Hey, Hey, Hey! ;)

Lame.

Wish I could get 100 mil contract and play when I want to. In fact, give me Big Al's contract and I GUARANTEE I will be just as effective against San Diego as he is today. :P

Teh Danny will DOMINATE in off-season, like always.

what a useless azz-load of lard.

Gray interviewing again or for the first time? depends on what you believe I guess. If it is again, can you say exercise in futility? He can't be the most qualified man of color.
BTW, I've always thought caucasians should be called colored if anyone should be. We're white or red if too much sun, or brown when tan, or green when sick, blue when choking etc...

'Skins making Shanahan contingency plans

Posted by Mike Florio on January 3, 2010 1:27 PM ET
Though the Redskins have focused on Mike Shanahan like Albert Haynesworth focuses on his mid-afternoon pork chops, the team realizes that Shanahan hasn't committed to anything yet -- and thus that he could go elsewhere, if the money is right (i.e., better).

As a result, G.M. Bruce Allen has been making calls to lineup up a "Plan B," according to Jay Glazer of FOX.

It's a smart move. Though Shanahan is by all appearances ready to take the job, he believes in keeping his options open, and he's surely hoping that more options open up.

One way or another, the current coach's job status will be resolved soon. Glazer expects Jim Zorn to be fired within the next 24-48 hours. We think it'll happen sooner than that.

--------------

Interesting. Maybe Shanny is holding out to see what's up with the Texans, and Bears HC position. If Shanny plays hardball, I'd say pass on him, and hire someone else who's "qualified".

Posted by: noonefromtampa | January 3, 2010 3:02 PM | Report abuse

I posted some time ago thet Shanny is fond of Texas. I think if dallas were out of it, he'd strongly consider going there. Cowher may be an option. I know he love NC, but Fox isn't going anywhere.
How about one of the assistant coaches for the Colts, Bengals, Steelers, Saints, etc..?

...and hire someone else who's "qualified".

Unlikely as that may be, we can always hope.

OAK, SEA, BUF are all in the club house with 5 wins. BUFF is winning. OAK and SEA play late.

CLV has 4 wins, and is winning big. Looks liek athey are a lock to finish with 5.

TBAY and KC have 3 wins, TBAY is losing and KC plays late against the depleted at WR Broncos.

Having Albert and LL out will not make it any easier for the Redskins D to beat the Chargers second string, namely Volek and Sproles. Volek has more to play for in this game than Rivers anyway. He has a great chance to put up MORE film of him kicking azz. Guy is good, maybe BA will like him, LOL.

You tie Jim Zorn's hands by elevating him to a position well beyond what he's done in the past, don't allow him to pick his own staff, and then sign, among others, Albert Haynesworth. Can someone tell me one good thing about Albert Haynesworth other than "He's a great player, one of the best in NFL history" when he's healthy...when he's in shape...when he feels like playing...when he doesn't take himself out of games for being winded or injured. I'm still trying to reconcile the Dallas Cowboys being on the Redskins' three-yard line and Mr. Haynesworth taking himself out of the play.

Looks like Wynn will finally be active, he should be well rested. Pure genius to make inactive for the first 15 games and unleash him for the finale.

Ugly knee injury for Wes Welker. I still remember him scoring a meaningless TD against us in the 51-7 drubbing and spiking the ball like he just clinched the game. I hope he’s ok, but I’m not terribly upset.

Brownies held on... they are in the club house at 5.

Bills up 23 with 3 minutes... they are gonna have 6 wins.

Bucs trailing by 10 with a minute left. They are a lock for number 3 with 3 wins.

Redskins can secure number 4 with a loss.

Worst case: Suh, Okung, and Berry go 1-3 and we are staring at Cluasen and Bradford with the 4th pick.

That also presents GREAT trade bait with say somebody like the Niners or who want to come get Clausen or Bradford.

Posted by: SkinsfaninKaneohe | January 3, 2010 3:59 PM | Report abuse

Given the choice between:

a) A meaningless Redskins game
or
b) A mostly meaningless Cowboys game that decides nothing except whether the Cowboys choke in the wild-card game as the wild-card or chokes as the 3rd/4th seed...

I'll take a) every time.

The difference between a football fan and a Redskins fan used to be that a football fan could go to a sports bar every week to watch whatever games they wanted while a Redskins fan could either go to the stadium or enjoy the game from the comfort of their own home. Not anymore, apparently. Some of us have spent enough time away from the Redskins viewing area to appreciate being able to watch even the 3rd stringers play with a 4-11 team. Win or lose, they're still the home team!

I hope they don't trade up to get him. As a matter of fact, I'd like them to trade down and get more picks to load up on cheaper, but good talent. This team needs youth and speed and size. That about sums it up.

Ricky, he would be a good pick but if Suh is there at #4 you also HAVE to let a team give you their 1,2 and 4 for the pick. Suh at 4 would have more teams willing to come up than Clausen/Bradford. Depending on the team, Bradford may even fall to you at the new number 1(shudder and perish the thought though!).

Take the move back, get one of the OTs with the new 1, and then start filling in at G, OT, FS, RB, LB with your 2,2 4,4 5,7.

Tender JC and CR, that may change the dynamic as well.

No we cant get the 3rd. Chiefs win and our loss gives us the 4, depending on Skins v Chiefs strength of schedule comparison. Head to head is not a tie breaker for draft picks.

We have them on strength of schedule. In the event of a tie record we will get the #4 pick.

We had one of the weakest schedules this year. Our opponents only won 44% of their games whereas the Chefs opponents won 51% of their games. googely moogely

Thanks PA. Maybe we should draft Clausen or Bradford, JC sucks, LOL

I really think we should tender him and hope somebody wants to take him off our hands. Let Colt take a run at warming the chair or shocking the world. I just hate the thought of not getting a ten and maybe more year stud at OT with this pick.

Hello Everyone!
REading some of you talking about the Skins drafting as high as possible....
Personally, I believe the Skins MUST, MUST, MUST trade down ... a couple of times!
They must pick up more picks, cut vets making too much money, creating an atmosphere of hard work, uncertainty of making the team etc.
For example:
# 5 Pick traded down for the #12 pick and two other picks.
Then they could trade down their RD 2 pick for for a couple of other picks as well.
Vinny left us no depth, not a playoff roster!
Hail!

Sam Bradford will be our QB next year, if MS is the coach. It's as good as a done deal, there have already been extensive discussions with Stoops and the current GM.

Cleve wins, KC 7-0 over Den, SD 10-0 over Skins. #4 is within reach! A boy called Suh! Woo, Woo! The Okie Okung! Okey Dokey!

Hasn't that (in part) been the problem? Going for "studs" (or what they thought would be studs) when they need football players first?

Get a bunch of players - a solid nucleus - then get the studs to surround them.

This team isn't going to be fixed for at least 3 drafts. Not one, not two but three (depending on FAs).

Observing the EAGLES shows me just how far the REDSKINS must go to be better.

QB, no question an upgrade over CAMPBELL is needed. Only problem being there's no one in this year's draft good enough to beat out a player like a DONOVAN McNABB. Keep JC for two.

O-LINE - four new starters needed. RABACH can stay one more year while we fill LT, RT and OG's in the draft. Keep Mike WMS RG, Steph HEYER RT, Edwin WMS. C, Chad RINEHART RG for back-ups strictly. Add three FA non-draftees for OT and OG back-ups as well. See what newbie WAYNE FAINIKA's got.

RB - new RB in draft. UFA's too beat up like PORTIS. But this is a passing league, so not a top priority.

FB - YODER has looked better than SELLERS this year. Re him up.

TE - COOLEY yes. DAVIS O.K. for now, but too many catchable balls go for INT's and defensive TD's to suit me. The guy has hard hands. Not a long-term solution.

WR - MOSS yes. MITCHELL should play after ARE exits. THOMAS, KELLY, jury still out, and will be until the line is solid again, and we have a first-class QB to deliver the goods.

Defense, need FS, cover corner, SSLB and DT, that's all. Of course in one year, that's enough.

RR1. Love the idea of trading down. Don't need to over do it though. Getting one of the top three OT while adding another 2 and 4 would be great. With a 1 and two 2s, you are adding 3 starters and still have 4,4, 5 and 7 for depth and flyer picks.

some possible trade down scenarios are:

#1 Wash & NE
Send 1st and 7th for 1st, 2nd & 2nd

We would end up with 27th, 38th, 43rd & 44th picks

That would be a great dream, can't see NE going for it though.
=======================================
#2 Wash & SF
Send 1st for 1st, 2nd & 6th

We would end up with 11th, 38th, 47th picks.

This seems more reasonable. SF still ends up with two 1st round picks
========================================
#3 Wash & Sea
We swap 5th for 7th and get Seattle's 4th, 5th and 6th round picks

Get us a lot of lower picks. Helps fill out roster if we make wholesale changes.

those trade are based on the draft value chart for the picks

Reading some of the comments, a thought. (You know like everyone who's a fan has one).

If we can slide into the four pick a trade down to 12-15 might net us a great RT and give us two seconds. We could go down again with our original second and pick up a third and sixth. Still have a great OG with our new second, get DONALD PENN's rights with a third this year and a fifth next and have a solid LT. That leaves a fourth for a new RB, a fifth for a DT or best available, a sixth for a CB, or a trade for GREG TOLER of the CARDS, and TERRELL WHITEHEAD FS in the seventh. McCRACKEN et.al. after the draft.

The Sage Rosenpenis era begins shortly...

Dr. Rosen?

Actually, make that Rosenpenis 2.0 since we drafted him...

KC & TB have 2 2nd round picks, NE has 3

NE is the only team that a trade down makes sense with
