Hey, I Got One Right

Skins take Kareem Moore from Nicholls State, a safety they had rated highly. I know they had an eye on him in the second day and they had just 3 safeties on the roster, so it was an obvious void.

I would think they grab Marcus Dixon, a D Lineman, with their final sixth round pick if he's there, than that's it until the end of the 7th round, with the comp picks.

Worried about the lack of D-line but I'm hoping this works out - we do need help at safety.

Traded down, got the Punter they wanted and got the Saftey with the pick they got for their 7th rounder.

Posted by: Wemiss21 | April 27, 2008 3:46 PM | Report abuse

got one right? That's funny because I remember a lot of your predictions on the draft, but not that one.

Posted by: G | April 27, 2008 3:46 PM | Report abuse

Nice pick. A bit under the radar, but sounds like a solid tackler with some upside who could contribute early in some packages.

Posted by: SaltyDog75 | April 27, 2008 3:46 PM | Report abuse

Well, I hope Dixon is still there. I think he'd be great for us. A real hard worker.

Nice pick

Posted by: marlonjohn | April 27, 2008 3:47 PM | Report abuse

About time JC. :)

If no one drafts Barrett, I hope they give him a look. Now we need a QB and some line help. Maybe a LB?

Posted by: ChucklesHB | April 27, 2008 3:47 PM | Report abuse

Geee.....I wonder if he can play defensive end?

We've only needed one for 2-years.

Posted by: Pass Rusher? | April 27, 2008 3:47 PM | Report abuse

Vinny was so confident with yesterdays picks of 2 WRs and 1 TE that he drafted a punter this highly. Guess he doesn't think too highly of yesterday's picks.

Posted by: skinme | April 27, 2008 3:47 PM | Report abuse

Hey I called all these picks. Just neglected to put keystrokes to monitor.

Posted by: Braintrustisbraindead | April 27, 2008 3:48 PM | Report abuse

dixon at 186 and henderson at 242.

What about Lekelvis Melvin Safety from La Tech-Monroe...?

Posted by: White Guilt | April 27, 2008 3:48 PM | Report abuse

"got one right"? Must have missed where you announced that one. Must have been the teams fault it didn't get posted.

Posted by: Anonymous | April 27, 2008 3:49 PM | Report abuse

What is it with the first morons?

Why are people racing to post first?

Are prizes involved?

Posted by: Whats the deal | April 27, 2008 3:49 PM | Report abuse

Stats: 5'10", 210, 4.639

He's small. But at least he's slow.

Can someone tell me what is wrong with Robertson, the DE from GT? He's been listed as the best available for about 40 picks now.

Posted by: Anonymous | April 27, 2008 3:50 PM | Report abuse

All of you should get your own team and see how you fare.... Ya'll haters don't know anything.

Posted by: Redskins1 | April 27, 2008 3:50 PM | Report abuse

we don't want anyone from the indians - go cajuns!

Posted by: Anonymous | April 27, 2008 3:50 PM | Report abuse

This pick is a combo. 5'11 db from a subdivision school "fared well against inferior competition" who despite his size can also play defensive end (when we play inferior teams).

".Efficient and disruptive blitzer who will force things to happen when closing on the quarterback."

Posted by: DOrr | April 27, 2008 3:51 PM | Report abuse

ok warhawks, whatever.

Posted by: Anonymous | April 27, 2008 3:51 PM | Report abuse

Anyone know why Henderson has fallen so far?

Posted by: G | April 27, 2008 3:52 PM | Report abuse

re: Robertson - prob because he's a tweener. Light for a DE, no experience (and prob too much height) for OLB. Would be a good pick for the Skins IMHO because we could use him here and there as a 3rd down DE and let him put on weight. Lots of upside.

Posted by: SaltyDog75 | April 27, 2008 3:52 PM | Report abuse

J La has been saying Moore was highly regarded by The Brass. You'd think Dixon will be around in the 7th. Grab a center or take a flier get Freakin' Henderson!!!! Geez, when did this guy become a bad ball player??? Now he'll have a chip on his shoulder. Good quality for LB

Posted by: Clegg | April 27, 2008 3:52 PM | Report abuse

He's not as good as you think he is?

Posted by: Fool | April 27, 2008 3:53 PM | Report abuse

The DE Robertson is undersized. He is 250 lbs., which really makes him a tweener - DE or OLB, but no indication that he can or has played OLB makes him a big risk in the NFL.

I don't know myself, but I was hoping if we drafted a safety, it would have been Caleb Campbell. If he gets drafted, I hope it not a rival.

Posted by: Anonymous | April 27, 2008 3:54 PM | Report abuse

Bob Saunders is a short guy and he was the Defensive MVP last season.

Bob Saunders is pretty fast and while the Slowskys had a faster 40 time than this guy.

Posted by: Dumb Move | April 27, 2008 3:55 PM | Report abuse

Tons of great picks here. I think we'll see someone everyone likes, for a change.

Posted by: SaltyDog75 | April 27, 2008 3:55 PM | Report abuse

Eric Palilunas (DE from Maine) would be a steal with any pick at this point... AND it's his birthday.

Posted by: Fool | April 27, 2008 3:55 PM | Report abuse

Steve Justice maybe?

Posted by: ChucklesHB | April 27, 2008 3:56 PM | Report abuse

Brandon Keith, from Northern Iowa.

Posted by: Greg | April 27, 2008 3:56 PM | Report abuse

Robertson, is suited for a 3-4 scheme thus he is not on our radar.

Great pickup for a #3 QB

Posted by: Fan2 | April 27, 2008 3:57 PM | Report abuse

Strengths: A gunslinger with an aggressive mentality. Accurate, puts good touch on passes and leads receivers on slant routes. Flashes the ability to throw into tight spaces on routes coming over the middle (in-route, posts, etc). Throws a tight spiral, steps into throws and knows how to lead his receivers. Is quick and mobile. Buys a lot of second chances with his feet. Also is capable of tucking the ball and running for first downs when opportunity presents itself. Has good ball skills and fields errant shotgun snaps well. Confident and aggressive. Wants the ball in his hands late in games. Is tough and will play through pain. Has adequate lower body strength and is a tough runner for his size.

Weaknesses: Height is only decent and bulk is marginal. Must get bigger/stronger in order to hold up in the NFL. Lacks ideal arm strength. Gets a lot of RPM's on throws but ball lacks zip on deep outs. He struggles to drive the ball down the field and many of his vertical throws will sail. Makes some poor decisions in the face of pressure and can throw the ball up for grabs. Plays in a spread scheme that simplifies reads. System has never translated well to the NFL; needs to adjust to taking snaps from under center, reading coverage while dropping and fitting the ball into tighter spots in the NFL. Doesn't secure the ball when pressure closes in on him and he can put it on the ground. Also comes with red flags regarding character (see History).

Colt = Peyton Manning = Colts

Posted by: Braintrustisbraindead | April 27, 2008 3:58 PM | Report abuse

colt is skinny as a rail and weak arm. basically can only play a west coast offense, which i guess we'll have, but i don't love him. saw a bunch of his games and was surprised by all the hype. but we'll see.

Posted by: qb | April 27, 2008 3:59 PM | Report abuse

this is pretty solid I think. todd is gonna be turning 63 on tuesday. we need a good slinger backup.

Posted by: ben | April 27, 2008 3:59 PM | Report abuse

I'm not sure why, but this pick again shows how incompetent the FO is!!!!! Everybody is laughing at us!!! I am never going to another Redskins game and am moving my family to Guam in protest!!!

It's obvious that we should have taken [plug in name]. Vinny [plug in mean nick name] is a pathetic lap dog for [plug in debasing comment about Snyder]. These people have no idea what they are doing!!!

I've had it!!! I'm [plug in final despairing comment]

Posted by: The Sky is Falling | April 27, 2008 3:59 PM | Report abuse

Ok. I've had it. That's it. Snyder is a moron.

Really? Colt F'n Brennan? Really? Really?

My head is gonna explode.

And before you Danny defenders get on me. I liked the earlier picks. Well mostly. But this is just bull****.

i keep missing the ESPN Sports Nation voting results on the "who had the best ddraft in the NFC East"?...anyone seen the latest?

Posted by: deadskin | April 27, 2008 4:00 PM | Report abuse

Now this Colt Brennan fellow, does he rush off the end or up the middle? Can he shed blocks? How is against the run?

Posted by: Uncle Keith | April 27, 2008 4:00 PM | Report abuse

I just don't understand.

If this is how the skins aregoing to draft them i'll rather them build through free agency, just don't sign players over 28.

In all Seriousnessness, I actually called this guy AND the punter for the sixth round in another thread. Right after Ainge was taken.

Posted by: firstpunter | April 27, 2008 4:02 PM | Report abuse

Good thing we have an overload of backup safeties now.

Reed Doughty is not to be mistaken for a starter despite the biases of some of our fanbase.

The Redskins need a ball hawking, centerfielder that allows Landry to blast people closer to the line.

It is truly unfortunate that the Skins wasted a draft pick on a guy that is no better than Doughty who is also a terminal backup.

Posted by: JustMe | April 27, 2008 4:07 PM | Report abuse

After ten years of dealing with Vinny's drafts I think its time to realize that the redskins have a disdain for defensive line players. They are all treated like nonessentials and are always an afterthought. Does anyone think the giants would be at the top of the heap if they too "bargain basemented" their defensive line? There is a reason why we can never make it over the top, and it starts at the top; as the old saying goes " the fish always rots at the head first"!

Posted by: Bc/dc | April 27, 2008 4:14 PM | Report abuse

We get mad at our good high school talent for going to the usc's and osu.um's but what is happening to erin is why they pack thier bag's and run.

First like others I failed to read the post where you called this one. Secondly, remember the saying even a broken clock is right twice a day. Unbelievable, that your coverage is the best the Post can offer Skins Fans ... there was a day when the Post delivered with accurate stories and true inside information instead of the baloney that is now served.

Posted by: Anonymous | April 27, 2008 4:51 PM | Report abuse

The amount of whining on here is pretty sad. Especially the comments about needing defensive line and comparing the Skins to the Giants. Yes, D-line has been a focus of the Giants, and their front line was key in their Superbowl championship last season. However, let's look at the guys the Giants have who play significant time on the D-line, and when they were drafted:

Osi Umenyiora - 2nd round (2003)
Michael Strahan - 2nd round (1997)
Justin Tuck - 3rd round (2005)
Fred Robbins - 2nd round (2000)
Barry Cofield - undrafted FA

All of them except Barry Cofield were taken in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. Cofield was undrafted. So, is Washington likely to find that sort of player in Round 6-7? They may find a Cofield, but not a Umenyiora. (BTW: Cofield had 34 tackles last season, and zero sacks. Washington's Anthony Montgomery, also undrafted, had 42 tackles.)

The punter, Brooks, was an excellent pick. Colt Brennan seems like a decent choice - a name guy who they admit is a project. Face it, a 3rd-string QB shouldn't play in Washington any time soon. My only concern there is that Woodson, the Kentucky QB, may have also been a good choice there, and the Giants picked him up later in round 6.
