I believe what Jasno is trying to relate is he is in a conundrum of activity that requires him to constantly post to this blog when he has lost all interest at all in this little world of boredom where we all come to medications our lactations for inside information on our boys from DC.

Now have said all that nothing I propose we rally the troops and circle the wagons so we can blog into the pentathlon of geekness and never go outside or have any social interaction with real people.

You know I love you guys although I'm not sure any of you actually exist. Cheers

So is the extra roster spot going to Fred Matua?

His face-painting skills seem well suited to the Redskins.

Jack,

Are you really this dense or do you just not understand how the cap works? The receiver got a $10 million signing bonus. That counts $2.5 million against the cap in each year of his contract. This is the second year, so there is still $7.5 million that has to be written off. $2.5 million will come off this year. If you cut him, though, you have to take the full $7.5 million against this year's cap.

Wade to Start At Right Tackle

Todd Wade will take over at right tackle for Jon Jansen.
Head coach Joe Gibbs made the announcement during the "Joe Gibbs Show" on Redskins Radio with Larry Michael and Bram Weinstein.

The team considered starting undrafted rookie Stephon Heyer after he impressed as a replacement for Jansen in Sunday's game against Miami.

From that Redskins.com article.

"With the departure of Mason, the Redskins now have an available roster spot. The team will likely sign a player on Wednesday, prior to Thursday's first practice of the week."

Let the speculation begin.

TE- It's even worse than that. Receiver, The signed like a 6 or 7 year deal if I recall, so the bonus is only counting about $1.8 mil a year. So they'd actually still be somewhere north of $8.5 mil of instant dead money if they cut him now.

Yes! I'm now in mid-season salary cap form, posting shti, re-reading it, and having no idea what I just said.

I don't get releasing a player, hoping to sign him to the practice squad, before you are ready to sign someone else to the roster. Redskins' 2007 Salary Cap Situation
Last updated: September 2, 2007

$3.211m under the Skins adj cap of $109.656m.

after the finalising of the final roster.

And by the way, since after June 1st, his hit wouldn't come until next year, and do we all really think he'll be here next year.

I admit to not having a full understanding of the salary cap, and you obviously don't either as here is lloyd's detailed salary annually for the contract from http://www.skinsfans.com/pcinoz/Salaries%20-%20Summary.htm:

2.428
4.238
5.835
5.833
4.833
4.835

hardly 2.5 a year every year. And how is it that Archuletta signs the like biggest contract for a safety ever and count only 4.5 against our cap. The hit would hurt but it wouldn't cripple us, we dumped archuletta last year, and coles the year before and they had bigger contracts than lloyd. and relax with the venom will ya?

Posted by: Jack | September 11, 2007 5:14 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: BT | September 11, 2007 5:17 PM | Report abuse

Please ITA Jack. I don't think he will ever understand.

Jack = You need to remember - Chicago agreed to pay the other 5 gaureented to him. So his 10 or 12 Mil gaureented was only 5 on our part. $4.5 was the unamortized bonus $$ remaining on the books...

Posted by: 4th | September 11, 2007 5:21 PM | Report abuse

Jack;

I think the bears traded for him and picked up the other portion of his hit for the next couple of years. We paid this years hit, as is the rules I think for a trade.

The same with lloyd... we could trade him and we would have to take this years hit (or next after June 1st roster bonus) but they would need to take on his salary, give us relief and maybe ask him to take a pay cut.

Arch took a pay cut from the bears which is why they helped out ofn the cap hit

Posted by: Zebra | September 11, 2007 5:21 PM | Report abuse

Jack,

Archuleta wasn't cut, he was traded. He re-negotiated his deal with the Skins so they would trade him to the Bears.

Also, reminder to fake Nate ...

"Ya know, the thing about posting incorrect info, stupid comments, comments meant only to annoy the regulars by clogging up the blog, dirty comments...is that we know where these come from. We know who you are....Ordinarily, we don't pay any attention to these things -- we aren't big brother. But we do have the ability to check, if needed and if RI Nation complains. Just sayin'.
:)
Otherwise, I'll be back around 6. Ready for that last preseason game!

Posted by: dcsween | September 11, 2007 5:22 PM | Report abuse

Jack,

Thanks for putting up the numbers. I presume they're accurate IF Lloyd plays out his contract. If we cut him they're not accurate. If we cut him, the entire signing bonus has to be borne when we cut him. That amount is around $7.5 million or more. We don't have that much cap space.

Yes, we can -- and surely will -- cut him next off-season when we can take the cap hit next year or, if we wait longer, then in the following year.

But let me repeat. The best case now for Lloyd is that he cuts himself shaving and we put him on IR. That will free up his roster spot.

I hope this is helpful, because I really can't think of another way to try to explain it, and I understand why others have lost patience with you up here.

Posted by: talent evaluator | September 11, 2007 5:22 PM | Report abuse

Zeebs, there have been three or four comments today faking my name. Highly uncool.

Surly freakin' mood up here today. Punchy. You'd think we'd be feeling a little better after a victory, but it was one of those games that doesn't breed a lot of confidence, I guess.

And as always, "love, love will tear us apart again."

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | September 11, 2007 5:23 PM | Report abuse

And Blloyd will no give help to another team who wants him, so they would have to take on the remaining portion of his contract which is rediculous for his production.

Its what we did for Kendall, we gave him a new contract with the extra mil he said NY left out.

Posted by: Zebra | September 11, 2007 5:23 PM | Report abuse

And being the only accoutant on the Blog, I reject your claim on my ambitions on making it wit the Redskins as their next Capolist. I'm studying the Cap Rules so I can introduce so new ways to fit who we want under the cap....

Posted by: Willie | September 11, 2007 5:28 PM | Report abuse

jack- Example to try to make it clear.

You sign a 6-year deal with the 'Skins, with $10 mil signing bonus. 10 mil divided by 6 years equals 1.67 mil/year... that's how much your bonus counts each year towards the cap. If you turn out to be a d-bag here in year 2, and get cut right now, all of the remaining years accelerate immediately to this year's cap.
But they have the June 1st (1st!!!! Panties!!! Thongs!!!! Sorry, I digressed at the mention of 1st, it's been punchy up here today) cuts to spread it out over 2 years. So, if you, the d-bag gets cut next June 1st, you'll count $1.67 mil on the '08 cap, and the remaining $5 mil on the '09 cap.
I'm done now. My head hurts.

Lloyd will be released on June 2, 2008.

The NFL cap in plain language...

"There are drawbacks to signing bonuses for the owner, however. Because the bonus is guaranteed to the player, if the player is released, traded or waived, all of the bonus money that was being prorated throughout the length of the contract is accelerated to the present year.

So, if our team released its star player after the third year of his contract (before June 1) for whatever reason, the entire remainder of the bonus, almost $6.3-million, will have to count toward the cap the next year (if the team releases the player after June 1, only the yearly $1.57-million will count the next year, and the remainder will count the subsequent year).

http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/question644.htm

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | September 11, 2007 5:31 PM | Report abuse

Taken from www.hogshaven.com

"So, according to my contact guys, Lloyd's deal is structured just like Arch's, the base salaries become guaranteed and effectively equal the additional $5 million option bonus.

They could take a $9 million hit all at once - offset by whatever bonus the player would get elsewhere - and spread it over two years at around $1.5 in 2007 and $7.5 in 2008. No easy way around it."

But you guys prolly know better.

Posted by: Jack | September 11, 2007 5:31 PM | Report abuse

Either way, the BLloyd shabingus is going to lead to some dead cap dollars.

Take your pain now, or draw the pain out over 2 years.

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | September 11, 2007 5:34 PM | Report abuse

I hate to inject this into the conversation but it looks like a cut of Lloyd could be possible. Please review.

"11. How are the cap hits applied when a player is cut or traded before June 1, or after June 1?

If a player is released or traded before June 1 all current and future prorated signing bonuses, and any other guaranteed monies that might have been part of his contract, count against the teams Salary Cap in that year.

If the player is released or traded after June 1 then the unallocated signing bonus portion of the contract is split over two years. In the current year, that years proration counts against the Salary Cap while all future years prorated signing bonus figures count against the Salary Cap the following year."

http://www.skinsfans.com/pcinoz/Salary%20Cap%20FAQ.htm

Posted by: bigfish | September 11, 2007 5:34 PM | Report abuse

By my math 3.21 minus 1.5 this year leaves 1.71 left in 2007 and we take the 7.5 hit in 2008 when we all expect the cut to happen anyway.

I'll start the sjk-kissing with Ksquared followed closely by the rest of you clowns.

4-12,

I'm not going to do the math but the concept of your 5:29 post is all wrong. We are after June 1st right now so if Lloyd were to be cut now then we would be responsible for ONLY what we are already resposible for this year. The huge cap hit for the remainder of his signing bonus would hit us until next year.

Posted by: Anonymous | September 11, 2007 5:40 PM | Report abuse

Jack,

You so dumb it take you 1.5 hours to watch 60 Minutes.........

Posted by: A$$CLOWN | September 11, 2007 5:42 PM | Report abuse

As long as Lloyd was cut prior to the the start of 08 FA esssentially the super bowl, his hit is 1.5 this year and 7.5 next year. If we cut him during FA but before June 1st next year it is all due immediately. If we wait till after June 1 next year then same thing, it will be spread out over two years. But thanks for all you people being wrong and jerks.

Posted by: Jack | September 11, 2007 5:42 PM | Report abuse

And you're actually looking at a total cap hit of close to 7.1 mil next year IF we cut him now.

Posted by: bigfish | September 11, 2007 5:42 PM | Report abuse

Gotcha, Jack. I think I figured it out now.

I have learned way more about the cap today than I wanted to. It's sad that we are arguing over this a$$hat in the first place.

Posted by: SCSkinsFan | September 11, 2007 5:43 PM | Report abuse

Jack, what I think the point is we will cut him post june 1 next year, take 1.75 or whateves the F it is then and move the rest to 2009.

I dont think we can absorbe the 7.5 or whateves the F it is in 2008... Sean taylor and JC need to be resigned.

See, we dont get in cap hell in any current year we are in b/c the signing bonuses of all the cut players accelarte for the next year.

I have always said we could play the game by keep pushing the cap hits out to the next year, free up the room to pay for it and then do it all over again.

Eventually the world has to end and then there will be the reaiming prorated portion that we were to owe in the cosmos and we would have won!

its late time to gtfo

Posted by: Zebra | September 11, 2007 5:43 PM | Report abuse

It's not wrong Jack. A "June 1st cut" doesn't apply during the season. If he gets cut now, it all accelerates to THIS YEAR'S CAP. Email Jasno if you want. Posted by: bigfish | September 11, 2007 5:46 PM | Report abuse

I agree with SCSkinsFan, that we won't part with Lloyd until June 2, 2008, to spread an even smaller (accelerated bonus impact) cap hit than we would currently face across the 2008 and 2009 caps.

It stinks having this guy around, to be sure, but barring a trade or some other magic, I just don't think it's worth cutting him.

Who knows, maybe he'll play well with those crazy eyes glaring at him from the depth chart.

I guess we can safely assume that the FO is talking to his agent about managing that 12 mil guaranteed. Not sure what kind of leverage the 'Skins have but you can bet they will use it to dump the guy. The wide receiver knows he will likely not get picked up by any team.
