I Wouldn't Rule Out Everette Brown

The Redskins have expressed renwed interest in the Florida State DE as the draft has approached, according to a league source, after not having much previous contact with the player. Brown, like Texas prospect Brian Orakpo, could be a hybrid end/linebacker and there is a good chance he could be on the board when the Skins make the 13th pick (assuming that's where they end up picking).

Orakpo has drawn heavy interest from Washington throughout the process, and if the Skins do opt to fill this need at 13, Brown could be high in the mix as well.

It looks like a DE now if they keep the 13th pick, but which one?

Any of the DE or LB's are fine to me just dont trade future picks to get a QB thats not better than the one you already have on your roster

Go O Line with the 13th or the LB from USC. I continue to support JC and I Los

I'm telling you. All this is fodder. We are going to trade down, and select Knowshon Moreno. If we don't take him at 13. I'm telling you...

It may not make sense NOW. But by December it may be one of the most brilliant moves. Not to TAKE Portis' spot, but to COMPLEMENT the decline of his HOF career. Betts/Cartwright are not worth CRAP! We do one out of two things.

We will take Moreno, and dedicate the rest of the draft on OLineman (maybe a late DE). OR. We will draft the last of the POWER 4 OTs, and then knab Jeremiah Johnson or Glenn Coffee in the 3rd. J-Cam is fine... For this season, Sam Bradford may be the next Redskin QB

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but if Campbell demands a trade if Sanchez is drafted, my response if a big "whatever". Look, I like the kid and think he's got a lot of potential, but he only has a right to complain when he starts passing for 300 yards per game regularly or 20 tds a season. Until then, he better shut up and be happy collecting that first round 7-figure paycheck for another season.

There is a number$$ at which Mr. Campbell could be convinced to swallow his pride.
There is also the minor matter of him being an RFA rather than a UFA if 2010 is uncapped.

I would LOVE Brown, either him or Orakpo would be a huge improvement for our pass rush.

Now that Boldin's asking price has come down we should make a run at him. Our defense has been fine....it is not a statistical powerhouse but they keep opponents from scoring a lot. Boldin is unafraid of the underneath work.

I agree that Synder is self-destructive to so openly undermine the QB; but JC isn't yet good enough to take offense and complain. If JC does improve, he'll re-sign if the money's right, despite being embarrassed. Your "class act" will morph into just another "show me the money" pro athlete. The NFL is about talent and money. Get with the program.

I don't need to "get with the program." You do. Of one thing I am pretty darn certain, JC will never turn into a "show me the money" athlete. He has never had the chance to succeed here with continual coaching turnovers/systems and 1 WR. But he gets all the blame (from Snyder) for the team's losses. Snyder is sold on Sanchez's personality - not his talent (which is based on 16 flippin' games). And when has personality won championships?

This is a BAD sign.

The FO is gonna feed this signing to us as some kind of effort to "address" the tackle position for this team, therefore justifying moving up to 3rd in the draft to take Mark Sanchez...

Geez another kid with the aptitude of a Chrysleer crash dummy. The hard stats up until now appear to indicate that Joe Gibbs was right on the money about JC17. Last year was actually his defining year. Many here like to look at TDs. One blathering idiot kid claimed that he would rather see TD's and put up with the 20 INTs/year that Peyton Manning had in his first year. That's more than 1 INT per game average dudes. Its not good and the Colts ups and way downs during that period reflected their mistake prone QB.

Campbell has what it takes to be the next Unitas, Montana, whatever based on his LACK of mistakes while he is learning THREE DISPARATE offensive systems in the pros and FOYR DISPARATE offensive systems in college.

THAT IS WHAT pro scouts, general managers and coaches LLOOK AT FIRST and FOREMOST! Otherwise Colt Brennan would be the best QB in the NFL drafted in the 1st round. He had huge numbers in college relative to TD's etc. Even if it was from a non-BCS school. But even in his case if you look at his numbers in college he also took good care of the ball and was a good game manager.

So, they should trade JC17 to the Jets where he will excel and become the next Broadway Joe and start a "chick crack-surfer-dude" quarterback since that's what Danny appears to secretly covet.

Mike Williams is a great low risk gamble. A few years ago he was every bit as hyped as any of the 4 tackles coming out this year. Plus him and his wife have been living with dock the last few months and him and dock work out daily. If he can regain his form, dude has the talent. If not, we lose nothing. I still would love a tackle or d lineman or rey m if he's around.

Brian Cushing
Vontae Davis
Darius Butler
Clay Matthews
Robert Ayers
Everette Brown
Alex Mack
Kenny Britt

maybe we could trade back with them for #13 if they really want Cushing, Ayers, or Everette Brown...

I honestly believe in jc17 but the one thing he HAS to do is become more proficient with the mid to deep passes. Then defenses wont put 8 in the box. I'll also forgive a few more int's if it means he's taking a chance downfield.

From PFT:

Snyder Says He Won’t Trade His 2010 First-Rounder To Move Up
Posted by Mike Florio on April 24, 2009, 9:30 p.m.
The Redskins widely are believed to be interested in moving up from the twelfth thirteenth overall spot in the draft in the hopes of getting in position to select quarterback Mark Sanchez.

But owner Daniel Snyder said Friday that his team won’t be trading its first-round pick in 2010 in order to make it happen.

“We’re not going to be trading next year’s one,” Snyder said. “We’ve already said that several times.

“We’re really not as a franchise comfortable trading first-round draft picks. I don’t think it’s a wise move to keep trading that pick. It’s always a little bit risky.”

The Redskins did not exercise a first-round pick in 2008, 2006, or 2003. Last year, they reportedly offered a package worth up to two first-round picks to the Bengals for receiver Chad Johnson.

Posted by: TheTruth11 | April 24, 2009 11:00 PM | Report abuse

JC certainly hasn't shown yet he can be that so-called franchise/elite QB, but he's good enough, many teams have gone deep into the playoffs or won the SB with similar or worse... so very simply that position is nowhere near a priority over the truly big deficiencies... starting OT, DE, SAM LB, WR #2, C/G (not even getting into our depth problems). So when Snidely says he won't use next year's # 1, he still may well use this year's # 1 + JC (or next year's # 2 etc) to get Sanchez, and that would be just as big a failure by the him & the FO.

Mike Williams, P Daniels, R Wynn, the new LB we got, the hope that C Wilson makes it at LB, the hope for the 3 amigos WR's... it's all band-aids/duct tape and wishful thinking.

They better use this draft to (start to) properly fix the BIG holes... and QB just ain't one of them.

Who said anything at all about Mark Sanchez? Why even bring him into this conversation? You're like a Red State/Blue State battle, just disagreeing to go with your side.

Posted by: TheTruth11 | April 24, 2009

Of course! What else is there to do at this point ... most here know nothing about what is really going on ... "they have no pass rusher".

Its scares me to think that Snyder is about as bright. God only knows what he will do tomorrow .. and its going to be him and not Vinny as I've said all along now ...

I have to get it out of my system somehow?

As long as we don't draft Sanchez, we should get a decent player at 13..One of the 4 OTs, 4 DEs, or Mauluaga will drop to us..Or we'll get lucky and obtain a few of the trillion NE picks later on..

Carter had, what 4.33397 sacks last year?? Demetric led the team at a whopping 5 or 6, and they let him escape out the back to SF, where he will become DEMON-TRICK. Haynesworth will attract a lot of attention, but if Brown, Maybin or Orakpo are on the ends, true pass rushing mayhem will reign!! Sorry, but who's Rob Jackson??

The only way we should be talking about these DE's and LB's at 13 is if we are certain there will be a significant upgrade at RT available at our 3rd round pick, OR if they are certain they will be able to sign a quality FA RT (assuming any are left). Like I and many others keep saying, there is no higher priority pick this year than OT.

Skins don't have the juice this year to get to 4... but 8 is doable with the 13 and the 3rd round pick.

If Seattle passes... look for action with the Jags with us giving the 13 and the 3rd for Sanchez. Contingent on the Jets swapping the 17 for Campbell straight up.

Would you draft Campbell at 17 this year?

Perhaps.

BUT, Jets would have to give up a second as well to get to Sanchez at 8, and even more to get to 4 from the 17. The Jets may see better value in using 1 pick on Campbell, particularly as there is a new regime there who may want to use more vice less picks on fresh players.

Bucs and Vikes may be in play as well. Would you draft JC at 19 or wherever the Vikes are(low 20's ?)? I think I would if I were them.

My gut says when its all said and done, Redskins will move back and get basically 2 players for the 13 pick.

Jets Want Bulger?
Posted by Mike Florio on April 25, 2009, 8:16 a.m.
Well, if the Rams’ reported purchase of a plane ticket to St. Louis means that the Rams are thinking about drafting USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, it also could mean that Marc Bulger would be available in trade.

And the Jets would be interested, according to Albert Breer of SportingNews.com.

The same dynamic that unfolded in Denver could be happening in St. Louis — a new coach and new offensive staff might want a new quarterback.

The Rams would have their work cut out for them, however, if they choose to go with Sanchez and trade Bulger. At less than $11 million under the salary cap, the Rams would likely take a fairly large charge by moving Bulger, whose current contract contained $27 million guaranteed and became effective less than two years ago.

Depending on the manner in which the Sanchez sweepstakes unfold, the Jets could be pursuing Browns quarterback Brady Quinn and/or Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell.

And it’s not surprising. After spending tens of millions at other positions over the past two years, the Jets have no current answer at the most important position on the field. As Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News pointed out Friday, G.M. Mike Tannenbaum’s job could be hinging on his ability to emerge from draft weekend with a good quarterback.

Raiders Shopping Burgess
Posted by Mike Florio on April 25, 2009, 8:48 a.m.
Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that the Oakland Raiders are shopping defensive end Derrick Burgess.

Burgess, who spent four years with the Eagles before signing with the Raiders and spending four seasons there, could end up being traded back to Philly, per Mort.

Another potential target is the Panthers.

Burgess is entering the final year of his contract. According to NFLPA records, he’s due to earn a base salary of only $2 million in 2009.

Here's what my secret Redskin "sources" tell me: the trade up to get Sanchez is all about getting a new HEAD COACH in 2010!

think about it. What does Danny covet more than a sexy hot QB or WR? A head coach. He's got the big hots for Cowher and for Shanahan (and maybe others). He has gone out and talked to one or all of them and said,"Besides a gazillion dollars, what do you want to come coach the Redskins?" And one or all of them have said,"I want a franchise QB there that I can win with. And Cutler is my guy. If you can't get Cutler, I'll take Sanchez."

Danny has already axed Zorn; Zorn just doesn't know it yet and it won't hit until Jan. 1, 2010. Danny has already written of 2009. He's angling for a new coach in 2010, but what coach is going to want to come to D.C. with Campbell as the QB and risk his reputation? Sadly, the League has seen enuf of Jason to know that he is a competent backup but not a franchise QB. "Get Sanchez," these coaches say, "and I will seriously consider coming to D.C."

heard it here first, folks.

Not necessarily.

If the Skins can move Campbell in a package to someone like the Jets (or in a 3-team scenario) and get their #1 in the process, we could trade our #13 and their #17 to move up.

We'd probably also end up dealing something like our 3rd and picks next year that are not the #1 (2nd rounder or something).

Uh...this is wrong on so many levels.

Snyder is many things, but we know for sure he is compulsive, impatient, and not a football man.

He doesn't know pro football. Based on his track-record, how could you argue that he does?

Without doubt JC has been mortally wounded, so now the Skins have no choice but to mortgage their future for a rookie QB.

*GMs and owners fall out of ManLove with Sanchez in the light of day.

*As the draft goes down, no one will move up because teams ask too much, so they pick position players.

*Sanchez is falling. He's shown sweating in the Green Room.

*When SF takes Orakpo, it appears Sanchez MAY drop to 13 and Snyder will get his wish.

*When 'skins are on ther clock, Goodell announces "There has been a trade.. The Washington Redskins have switched positions with the NY Jets and the Jets have sent thee Redskins their 2nd and 4th round picks to replace the one the 'skins had foolishly traded away.. The Jets are on the clock."

*The Jets take Sanchez, The 'skins take Maualuga at 17, Wood in the second and other interior lineman in the third and an LB in the 4th round.

*Snyder and campbell appear arm in arm at FedEx to announce Campbell's extension and that they never had an interest in Sanchez, and Campbell never wanted to leave the team.

Report: Rams Buy Sanchez A Plane Ticket
Posted by Aaron Wilson on April 24, 2009, 7:42 p.m. EDT

The St. Louis Rams have purchased a plane ticket for USC quarterback Mark Sanchez to travel to St. Louis on Sunday, according to Steve Wyche of NFL.com, per our friends at The Red Zone.

What does this development mean?

Posted by: Flounder21 | April 24, 2009 7:46 PM

It means the Rams believe Snyder is interested in Sanchez, and they're prepared to fleece him for high draft picks and good players for an unknown.... just like other teams do.

Posted by: Alan4 | April 25, 2009 10:29 AM | Report abuse

The Skins should deal Campbell along with their 1st and 3rd round picks this year and their 1st round pick next year as well.

It would be a courtesy to Campbell at this stage -- and it would be a courtesy to Seattle next year too, because on top of landing the quality starting QB that they're seeking, they'd get two high picks this year, as well as a pick next year which will probably end up in the top 8. In exchange the Skins' land an unproven rookie with an upside that is at best, no better than Campbell's. Par for course for Vinny C. and the Dan.

I will type it slower for you. We don’t have anyone to rush the Qb. Haynesworth will get double teamed, Wynn and Daniels with their walkers won’t get there, Griffin has just about had it and Carter is average at best. Go back and look at the last Eagles’ game. Broken and beaten McNabb out runs Carter around the end. Carter had the angle and couldn’t close on him. Carter looks like he is running in shoes used by Master P in Dancing with the Stars. If you are pinning your hopes on Jackson, you are living in a fools paradise. Have you looked at our corners beyond Hall and Rogers-currently they go by Smoot and Tryon—soon to be known as easy pickings in the nickel package. And—if Hall and/or Rogers go down—the secondary will get shredded by every quarterback not named Campbell. A pass rusher first than the RT is what we need.

We're going to stay at 13 and take Maulaluga, then pick up the best available tackle in the 3rd, and a center/guard in the 5th.

Worst case scenario we double down to move up the board and - surprise! - take Jason Smith.

30 years of rooting for this team I have never, ever, seen a water headed f-around like this.

And to all you 10th graders dumping on Campbell and yammering for TDs and calling for Sanchez, go do your homework.

We're seriously considering giving up two 1st rounders and a 3rd, dumping JC for a JUNIOR QB (Flacco Ryan were 5th year seniors), starting Tod Collins and playing roulette with the OL, DL, and linebacking corps? Oh, and the CBs - who after Carlos and Hall, consist of Smoot and Tryon?

Reckless incompetence.

What happens if Samuels goes down? Carlos or Hall are 100% going to make it the entire year? Rocky?

Snyder is going to knock us down collectively onto the NFC East throw mattress and allow Dallas, Phil. and NY to have their way with us repeatedly and there's nothing we can do about it. It's HIS toy to play with.

F-ING OUTRAGED.
