Inactives

So, the Skins put Fauria on IR - not much production out of that signing - an d young Mike Espy is active for the first time after being on the practice squad.
With Moss and Patten both out with hamstring injuries, Espy joins Lloyd, Randle El and Thrash as WR dressed for the game.
Rumph, Doughty, Boschetti, Whitley, Montgomery also out.

The Bucs have a makeshift defense, with Rice, Wyms and Quarles all out.

Should be fun.

Yes, should be very exciting. I wonder how bad Ohio State would beat both of these teams.

i'm scared. what if jc sucks? another 3 years into the hole. i'm keeping my fingers, toes and "eyes" crossed.

NFL/fox spotted tampa 2 points?

Posted by: dealer | November 19, 2006 1:14 PM | Report abuse

Dealer, I saw that too. I couldn't figure out how I could have missed the safety.

I have the absolute worst hangover and am working on preparing a concoction of organic sausage, organic scrambled eggs, and Eggo waffles. The 'Skins are not helping me at all with their crappy play.

Note to self: do not mix champagne, gin, and Jaeger.

Further note to self: watching this game is hazardous for your sanity.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 19, 2006 1:38 PM | Report abuse

diddy, hopefully that play to thrash helped a bit...

Posted by: dealer | November 19, 2006 1:40 PM | Report abuse

Unfortunately, I don't find field goals all that exciting or helpful.

BTW, I used my all-time best line in the bar last night. It was very James Bond-like. And it worked, too.

Well, maybe it was my second best line. The best line I've ever used on a bartender began with, "What time do you get off?" Reply: "What time do you want me to get off?"

There was only one way to respond. "About 23 minutes after we get naked."

Last night was a bit more sedate.

Can you tell I'm trying to distract myself from the ignominy of watching this travesty of football?

Oh, and the worst thing (the worst thing) about that Ohio State/Michigan game was the constant prattling on and on of the announcers proclaiming "Bo would like that" or (worse) "Somewhere Bo is smiling". Barf.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 19, 2006 1:46 PM | Report abuse

The entire team has been been on inactive since pre-season.

Posted by: Montana'Skins Fan | November 19, 2006 1:54 PM | Report abuse

I think the Bucs were, too. This is such exciting football.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 19, 2006 1:56 PM | Report abuse

Speaking of Bond, I saw "Casino Royale." Thot it was terrific. Especially when the bartender asks if he'd like his martini shaken or stirred and he sez, "do I look like I give a damn?"
One of the previews was for Spiderman 3 -- can't wait to see it, altho it prompted the inevitable Mensa-esque debate: who would win a battle of Spiderman vs. Batman?

Posted by: Jason's editor | November 19, 2006 1:56 PM | Report abuse

I have lots of inside scoop on Spidey 3. It's going to be a great one. Not quite as good as "Batman Begins", which, along with the first Mario Puzo-written "Superman", is the pantheon of superhero movies.

Also, keep a lookout for "Iron Man". Jon Favreau is directing, and they cast Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark (which is an absolutely brilliant move). No one is talking about that movie, but the script is fantastic and it could end up being right up there with "Batman Begins".

Sadly, my Green Lantern script continues to languish on the shelves of Hollywood production offices. At one point they had Freddie Prinze, Jr. attached to it. Which obviously made me want to stab my eyes out.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 19, 2006 2:03 PM | Report abuse

I am a huge fan of "Batman Begins" and all Bale performances.

Posted by: Jason's editor | November 19, 2006 2:05 PM | Report abuse

Oh, and Superman would kick Spidey and Batman's collective butts.

it sure as hell has a feel of the preseason game. i find myself switching over to watch "general's daughter" when jc's not on the field.

and it totally seems like they're looking at JC otherwise they'd be RUNNING the ball!

Posted by: dealer | November 19, 2006 2:06 PM | Report abuse

I'm not that big on the man of steel. X-men, yep. I liked "Fantastic Four," too.

Posted by: Jason's editor | November 19, 2006 2:07 PM | Report abuse

Wow, "The General's Daughter". That's an epic film. I'm playing the Superman Returns game on Xbox with the game in PIP.

This is soooooo dull.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 19, 2006 2:09 PM | Report abuse

Alstott and Pittman. I feel like I'm reliving Jan. 7 all over again. Except there's no Spleen Boy at QB for the Bucs and no spitting...yet.

Posted by: Jason's editor | November 19, 2006 2:09 PM | Report abuse

oooooohhhh i liked that sixaxis wireless control commercial!

Posted by: dealer | November 19, 2006 2:13 PM | Report abuse

Superman is my favorite superhero. I loved "Superman Returns" and spent a good chunk of my time in Sydney on set. Brandon Routh is a really nice guy, and I developed a minor crush on Kate Bosworth.

X-Men 1 and 2 were awesome. 3 sucked. Can't believe they greenlit that movie without Bryan Singer. Sad, really. They should have waited for him to finish Superman.

I'm pretty sure that if the 'Skins had Superman on their roster, they'd find a way to screw it up. I can't wait for this game to end. What an overdeveloped sense of duty and honor I must have to be watchign this...

Posted by: P Diddy | November 19, 2006 2:13 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: dealer | November 19, 2006 2:15 PM | Report abuse

I thought "Fantastic Four" sucked, but I adore the Human Torch and thought the kid they found to do that role was perfect.

In these homophobic times, who doesn't like a superhero that has the guts to exclaim, "Flame on!"

Love it.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 19, 2006 2:15 PM | Report abuse

Whoa. Is that an interception?

By our defense?

In a game that "counts"?

Huh?

Posted by: P Diddy | November 19, 2006 2:16 PM | Report abuse

Clarification
While I liked FF, I wouldn't purchase it, which is the true measure of how much I liked something. Now that I think of it, I watched FF on HBO, so I didn't even really pay to see it...

Posted by: Jason's editor | November 19, 2006 2:17 PM | Report abuse

yeah, ditto on x-1,2 and 3. i thought that 3 was more about being gay/homosexual. and preaching session. imnsho

Posted by: dealer | November 19, 2006 2:17 PM | Report abuse

yeah, someone forgot to tell the D that it's not the 2007 preseason yet. ergo the INT and 2 TO's in a half.

Posted by: dealer | November 19, 2006 2:20 PM | Report abuse

The X-Men stories have always been metaphors for tolerance and racism/homophobia. The difference is that X-Men 1 and 2 were well-written, while 3 was apparently written by the proverbial room full of monkeys.

Odd that the DirecTV commercial right now is for X-Men 3 on PPV.

Speaking of which, is anyone as excited as I am about the TomKat wedding? And by "excited", I mean disgusted with the state of network news when they dedicate more attention to two idiots getting married than to, oh I dunno, soldiers dying in Iraq.

Definitely not Ted. Who, by the way, is among the nicest people I've met. Good tipper, too...which, to me, is the barometer of generosity among celebs and rich folk.

wow, it couldnt be more evident that brunell lacks arm strength. these WRs didn't learn to run the "deep outs" yesterday. they've been running them all season, and ocho-stinko wasn't hitting them. i do, however, see that the O-line is doing a better job of blocking. honestly seems like they're putting more effort than they have in the past, in aim of protecting their rookie.
not bad, not bad...let's see what this kid has got.

Posted by: dealer | November 19, 2006 3:04 PM | Report abuse

Well, we knew that would happen.

I've always been partial to Timothy Dalton and The Living Daylights. License to Kill was awful, but the living daylights had the russian guy with the headphones throwing milk bombs and the original use of the people riding in the oil pipeline, which was later recycled in a later bond film.

So, what did we learn today, kids? Let's see:

- Jason Campbell can play American football.
- Chris Cooley should be a 'Skin for life.
- The kicker with the moustache is scary.
- Superman can kick Batman's butt.
- Jessica Simpson is hot and dumb.
- Bill Maas is dumb.
- Fudge Ums might just be the best hangover cure ever.

Well it seems that Campbell has some game to him. No question he has a arm. Going to be interesting to see him with CP and Moss next year. And please get a brother a O line that can protect him.

I really really like Campbells arm. That kid has a cannon.

Posted by: jm220 | November 19, 2006 3:58 PM | Report abuse

I loved the fox graphic earlier on our awesome freeagent signing...what was it 1 billion and like 100 years for those 4 guys

Posted by: jr | November 19, 2006 3:58 PM | Report abuse

i was giving double G some benefit of the doubt but before this week. but i'm with everyone now. this D is horrible. 200+ yards rushing right?

well, i'm not scared anymore. JC looks okay. he made one bad play in the endzone and made up for it on the TD throw.

Posted by: dealer | November 19, 2006 3:59 PM | Report abuse

Why even review that? Its over, well I guess we can look towards next week.

Posted by: gatorskinz2000 | November 19, 2006 3:59 PM | Report abuse

Have to keep in mind that he played the Bucs. Not exactly a powerhouse in the NFL. But I think what we've seen is promising. And certainly enough to keep our attention for the rest of the year.

Next year, however, is a different story. We'll fire up all the "Bench Brunell" threads and do a quick search and replace for JC.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

My thoughts on Campbell? I like what I saw. I like the arm. I like the fact he isn't inert in the pocket. I like the fact that he can take a hit. I like the way he looks like he's really po'ed to have lost. He ain't smiling and I really like that.

Campbell was great. Betts is a horrible running back, decent receiver. Duckett only getting 5 carries is the reason this team lost. Well that and the horrible defense of course

I sure hope St. Joe thanks the fans. Whenever he does that, I feel like he's talking directly to me. It's like when President Bush talks about cutting and running and staying the course.

The good news: Campbell looked good today
More good news: Czabe not on Post Game Show...did they boot him?

Posted by: jm220 | November 19, 2006 4:13 PM | Report abuse

If Campbell doesn't throw at least 5 TDs next week, I think we should play Tom Collins. He's been sitting his guts out all season.

A proper Tom Collins:

3 parts club soda
2 parts gin
1 part lemon juice
A wee bit of sugar
Garnish with a cherry and an orange slice

Posted by: P Diddy | November 19, 2006 4:15 PM | Report abuse

3-13? wow! looks like that way. i think that'll be the #1 pick.

Posted by: dealer | November 19, 2006 4:17 PM | Report abuse

Bill Maas is the worst game annoucer I have ever heard.

It's Salave'A, not Salave and Troy Vincent does not play for the Bucs.

What have we done to deserve this...Oh yeah, we're 3-7. I guess we better get used to this.

Posted by: BT | November 19, 2006 4:22 PM | Report abuse

Dealer,

Keep in mind Denver has the option to swap 1st rounders with the Skins from the Duckett trade. Depending on how much value there is between picks (equal to a 3rd rounder and no better). If Denver loses a couple games and the Skins win a couple Denver will be able swap picks.

Posted by: Mike4169@aol.com | November 19, 2006 4:23 PM | Report abuse

How about Gibbs slamming Saunders for not running the ball. He sounded pi**ed!

Posted by: BT | November 19, 2006 4:24 PM | Report abuse

mike, so are you saying we should be rooting for denver?

Posted by: dealer | November 19, 2006 4:25 PM | Report abuse

BT, i heard that too. but could that be possible? we have to ask jason about that. cuz it sure as heck sounded like a dig at saunders playcalling. i just don't know this team anymore. too many questions. way too many...

Posted by: dealer | November 19, 2006 4:27 PM | Report abuse

Denver will make the playoffs. So, I don't think we have to worry about that 1st round pick. It going to be our 3rd round. We need to start looking at DE's that are coming out.

Posted by: jm220 | November 19, 2006 4:27 PM | Report abuse

Dealer,

Yessir! With this season going the way it is and then have to swap picks with Denver for a 1 year contract player that hardly ever plays. That would be maybe the biggest blunder in Skins history.

Go Plummer! lol

Posted by: Mike4169@aol.com | November 19, 2006 4:27 PM | Report abuse

Mike, you're right. That's why we need to root for the Broncos (No matter how much I hate to root for Champ not to get burned).

Posted by: BT | November 19, 2006 4:30 PM | Report abuse

I think there are way too many contenders for "biggest blunder". Ever since Mr. Cooke died, things have been pretty sad in DC.

I think the Broncos are a perfectly honorable team for 'Skins fans to root for.

Posted by: Pigskin | November 19, 2006 4:35 PM | Report abuse

Got a question for everyone out there. Does it make sense to sign Duckett long term and try to trade Portis in the offseason?

Just hear me out...

I mean, I love Clinton, but we have so many gaps on this team and Portis doesn't seem to be the ideal running back for this team. I am sure that we could get at least a fist rounder or maybe a second and third rounder for Portis. Also, with the way that Portis runs, who knows how long he will last in this leauge (he is a smaller back and takes a lot of hits).

Posted by: BT | November 19, 2006 4:37 PM | Report abuse

P Diddy,

:-) Maas did castigate our coaching staff....and he kept mispronouncing Salave'a which drove me crazy....

Posted by: Lisa | November 19, 2006 4:37 PM | Report abuse

Betts and Duckett are both FAs after this season. I'm guessing the Skins will let Betts go and try to resign Duckett. Portis and Duckett would be a lot like Byner and Riggs...

Posted by: Posse Redux | November 19, 2006 4:38 PM | Report abuse

I like this kid's poise and intelligence in the postgame presser, too.

Posted by: Jason's editor | November 19, 2006 4:39 PM | Report abuse

BTW, sometimes the turkey games have better announcers. Apart from Simms and Aikman (both of whom I love as color commentary guys, if not QBs), the big game talent is pretty annoying. Often the lesser known guys are more willing to get "technical" with the game and, you know, actually explain things.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 19, 2006 4:40 PM | Report abuse

Do you think we will keep Ron Lynn as the D-Cordinator next year

Posted by: OC Skins | November 19, 2006 4:42 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: P Diddy | November 19, 2006 4:46 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: OC Skins | November 19, 2006 4:48 PM | Report abuse

I wouldn't trade Portis. I would just change the run plays to his types of plays. Keep Duckett if you can and let Betts go away. I do not see why Duckett would come back here though the way he is being treated. Like mentioned they would be very similar to Byner/Riggs only with a lot more skill in both spots.

Posted by: Mike4169@aol.com | November 19, 2006 4:48 PM | Report abuse

I would like to be nominated as DC. I promise not to blitz both safties, thus opening up the middle of the field for an easy TD.

Except T.O.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 19, 2006 5:01 PM | Report abuse

No you can't trade CP. Change the play calling so he takes less big hits. TJ or Betts doesn't fit good with Saunders system.

Posted by: jm220 | November 19, 2006 5:01 PM | Report abuse

And the thing that should be really annoying to all of us is that this talent-laden team has squandered a golden opportunity. The NFC is a total mess.

That's a horrible thing to say. McNabb really handled TO with dignity, when it probably would have been easier and more satisfying to stoop to his level.

Posted by: Sherry | November 19, 2006 5:11 PM | Report abuse

My thoughts on today:

1. JC played well and is the future QB of this franchise... pumped about that.

2. Gibbs still doesn't appear comfortable with Campbell... never really has in my opinion.

3. Gibbs angry with Saunders for not running the ball more.... I'll be very interested to see if Gibby takes back play calling duties next year (if he comes back).

4. Vernon Fox now playing ahead of the highest paid safety in the league... embarrassing. I hope we threaten him and he gives back some of his signing bonus to leave, like LA did.

5. Our defense sucks. We can't tackle and Carlos Rogers gives 40 yards cushion, plus he can't tackle. Marshall is having a down year. Nothing is going right out there.

Posted by: jm220 | November 19, 2006 5:19 PM | Report abuse

By the way -- the Redskins should offically change their name to the Pigskins: 1. Eliminates once and for all the PC crying. 2. They'd still be the Skins. 3. Homage to team history, as in the Hogs, all the snout wearing guys at games, etc. 4. You could keep the same logo, or go with a Razorback type deal. But just keep the logo. The Chicago Blackhawks have the same thing, and once the name is altered no one cares. 5. Finally, nothing is as fundamental to footall as the ol' Pigskin. The Skins lay claim to the most basic name in football.

jm, where did you hear czaban?

Posted by: dealer | November 19, 2006 7:47 PM | Report abuse

JC did okay against, as JLC termed it above, a "makeshift" Buc defense, missing about five guys, and with the benefit of the (emotionally) Dead-skins showing a bit of atypical energy and enthusiasm behind the guy most of them think should have been starting. And the team still lost to a 2-7 bunch.

If this was the one step forward one expects from a new, playing on adrenaline QB, the inevitable two steps back will be ugly.

Posted by: Pigskin | November 19, 2006 7:50 PM | Report abuse

C'mon Dealer....give the kid a break....this was his first NFL game ever and he has not played a meaningful game in almost two years...and that was at the college level. Did not play much in preseason.

I do not think he will be as good next week since the Panthers will now have tape on him and can game plan better than the Bucs. Also, they have Julius Peppers. But all things considered,Campbell threw for 2 TDs (without Moss)...was able to run...and did not throw an interception. He was NOT the reason we lost the game...blame that on the D and Betts fumble.

Posted by: Lisa | November 19, 2006 7:53 PM | Report abuse

He was on 980 with Ric Doc Walker. Campbell hasn't really played in 2 years. Really hasn't played much time with the first team O. I thought he did well and looking to see even more improvement next week.

I agree with Lisa. You also have to add Lisa no CP.

Posted by: jm220 | November 19, 2006 7:56 PM | Report abuse

For those with overall Washington sports interests....I give you:
Arnaud Dahi scored 15 points and Old Dominion sank six 3-pointers in the second half Sunday to beat No. 8 Georgetown 75-62, ending the Hoyas' 24-year winning streak at their on-campus gymnasium.
The Monarchs shot 58 percent in the second half, and Old Dominion overcame an eight-point second-half deficit to defeat a ranked team for the first time since beating Villanova in the 1995 NCAA tournament.
Old Dominion (4-1) had been 0-7 vs. the Top 25 since then, but the longer streak that came to end belonged to Georgetown (2-1). The Hoyas had won their last 20 when playing the occasional game at tiny -- and extremely noisy -- McDonough Arena, with the last defeat coming against Connecticut on Jan. 20, 1982.

lisa, jm i'm not blaming jc for the game. no, not at all. i thought he looked okay. and hopefully his vision and decision making will improve the more he plays. and hopefully they'll game plan better for him. throwing 34 times is just stupid.

the real litmus test will be against the panthers. and hopefully the 2 steps back won't be that ugly. he'll be playing at home so there'll be more pressure (i think).

honestly after listening to gibbs' presser i don't think anyone likes saunders play calling/scheme except todd collins. MB, CP, the O-line, they all seem to hate the play calling/scheme.

i wonder what will happen there(saunders) and the D(double G).

for the future: i say keep duckett and portis and let betts go.

i don't know i'm pretty depressed about this whole situation. and to make it worse i think the broncos are loosing.

I don't know about that...never underestimate the chances of a Schottenheimer team choking when it counts. I really do hope that the old man gets to go to the Super Bowl and win it one day, though.

As for the Broncos: Plummer has always been one of those streaky QBs. Sometimes he throws games away with dumb decisions. I don't think the Broncos will win a Super Bowl with him under center. I also wonder how long Jay Cutler will sit on the bench. Interesting parallel to the 'Skins' situation in DC, isn't it? Shanahan is a great, great coach...I wonder how he'll handle it.

What a great day of football. It made sitting on the couch for 12 hours entirely worth it.

BLAW: Hating on Campbell is prohibited until he either fumbles or throws an INT.

I can't believe people are dissing him after that game.

Posted by: Lavar Walt Clark | November 20, 2006 2:32 AM | Report abuse

I attended the game in Tampa today. Got a high five from Marcus Washington down by the Skins tunnel. Fun fun guy.

First off..some of you people who weren't impressed or are dissing Campbell...GET A CLUE AND WAKE UP. You really need to find something else to be pessimistic about. It shows what fog you're in.

Campbell: It's one game. The first game of his NFL career. You go on and say "oh I'm not impressed blah blah blah." Honestly wake up. If you're going to say that after one game...go find something else better to do with your time. The kid did a great job in his first game. A couple underthrown balls...BUT WHY MOST PASSES AGAIN SEEMED AS IF THEY WERE TOWARDS THE SIDELINES ONLY I'LL NEVER KNOW. Being at the game it seemed as if the Bucs D was almost daring the Skins to throw in the middle of the field and for that I won't understand Saunders is playcalling. Campbell made smart decisions with the ball. How he got that TD pass into Yoder right in front of me was a thing of beauty. Credit Yoder for making a hell of a catch. For his first game Campbell kept it simple and did well. It's too bad the running game was lacking. I loved the first play call..deep to Lloyd and he should've had that ball. It was there. If Lloyd catches it..I think this ball game would've been much different. I could be wrong.

Defense: UGH what else can you say? Honestly I don't know why Greg Williams is sticking with Holdman. A few weeks ago he said how Holdman was the leading tackler. I got news for Williams. The Cadillac was running free off that left end all day Sunday. Where was Holdman? Nowhere to be found. Get McIntosh in there. At least see what he can do. It's ashame..the D got some turnovers. It just didn't pan out. I'm frustrated by another loss but encouraged by the future with Campbell.

Again for some of you Redskin fans "not impressed" by Campbell...try learning something called patience. It's a timely process.

Hail

I was very impressed with Campbell. He threw a couple of balls that probably should have been intercepted, but overall he shows good decision-making and damn, isn't it nice to have a QB who is willing to chuck the ball down the field!!

As everyone else says, the D is a big problem. I'm sure there were missed assignments and such, but what struck me was the extremely bad tackling, even by the guys who did fine last year. They seem to have given up and lost their "want to". If the Skins had been playing against even a mildly competent offense, they would have gotten blown out.

The run/pass balance wasn't that far off. The Bucs' D played the run very well, I thought. Perhaps the Skins should have tried going more up the gut with Duckett, but I don't think we were going to pile up the yards, regardless.

At least the QB situation seems to be ok. Now, the Skins just have to figure out how to rebuild the D in the offseason without much help from the draft and a bunch of deadweights taking up cap space.

Carlos Rogers...come on. How many big plays have we seen this year? A d-line doesn't stop that play. That's a 1st rounder getting BURNT. Now, the fact is the Bucs (guess) avg'd 5 YARDS on first down runs. EVERYTIME!!! Have to do something for '07.

Cowgirls...and I talked all that smack on that 1 point spread. Between them and the 49'ers and a busted McNabb, it really pisses me off Grilliams incinerated our D with Archapuntteam. I really think R. Clark = 2 more wins and playoff hunt.

And Soup: Gus and Ramsey both kicked off careers with similar starts (Gus got Off plyr week! per 980) so PLEASE wait and see what happens against a true defense next week. Very cool cat though. Poised.

What's up with all these Cowbama's on here anyway? Campbell did great in his FIRST start. He wasn't even given a whole lot to work with, seeing as his #1 Running back is out, #1 Wide Receiver was out and the play calling was suspect at best. He showed great poise in the pocket, Stood tall and made decisive decisions. He will get his first win at home next week.
What needs to be addressed and from the looks of Joe Gibbs in his presser, that defense and the play callers are going to get torn a new one this morning. Finally Coach Gibbs looked pissed. I really have no idea what was Greg Williams game plan was yesterday. I have a rookie quarterback starting, hum cover 2, prevent, oh I know I should attack" "Attack you idiot", there is no way a rookie quarterback should end up with stats like Gradkowski had. GWilliams has lost his fast ball, he needs to go to work on some new schemes and cut all the horse droppings. Someone needs to tell him stop blitzing around the sides and go straight up the middle. It shouldn't take you 10 games to figure everyone knows when you blitz, where you blitz from and who's going to blitz. Gwilliams never calls any blitz's straight up the middle. JC can you ask him why he never blitzs up the middle or at least send one fron the side and one up the middle.

Won't it be hilarious when the Cowgirls miss the playoffs on tie-breakers due to an NFC East loss to the Skins? That alone might make me forget the misery that has been Skins 06. Campbell looked promising yesterday, but I think the game showed that the whole team stinks (and not just Marky Mark).

Posted by: BooferSux | November 20, 2006 9:19 AM | Report abuse

Three plays in particular stand out for me that show Campbell's promise. The first is the bomb he threw to Lloyd on the first play. Brunell can't make that pass and Lloyd should have caught it. The second is when somebody blasted into the backfield and was trying to pull Campbell down--he held his balance and zipped one into Thrash (I think) for a first down. If Brunell is in the game, that's a sack for sure. The third is on the second touchdown. He threw off his back foot and was still able to get the ball where only Yoder could get it. If Yoder can't catch it, it's an incomplete pass. If Brunell tried to throw that pass (or Rex Grossman, or Jack DelHomme or many QBs in this league), it's a wobbly duck and probably gets picked off. You can tell Campbell's got a cannon for an arm.

Who else was absolutely embarrassed to be a Redskins fan when Carlos Rogers started celebrating the tipped pass before he knew it landed in the arms of a Tampa receiver?

There he is doing the airplane wings across the center of the endzone as the cannons are going off.

Oh, and I also love the 20-yard cushion he gives on 3rd and 5...

He is an absolute joke.

WHAT A JOKE that guy is.

Posted by: Ricky Bobby | November 20, 2006 9:48 AM | Report abuse

I agree Ricky. Rogers is quickly becoming my least favorite player. Arch sucks but he doesn't celebrate every tackle. You also don't see him running his mouth to a reciever (once he catches up to him) after the qb overthrows him.

Posted by: Skinz | November 20, 2006 10:01 AM | Report abuse

I know that our CB's have been pretty bad, but I think the scheme has something to do with it. It always seems that we are blitzing with one or both safties. Since the safties usually gives the CB's deep help, the CB's have to play off the line because if they get beat its a TD. Williams needs to be a lot more creative with getting to the QB and not rely on the DB's to do it.

Posted by: BT | November 20, 2006 10:03 AM | Report abuse

Skinz,

When the coaches actually open up and say something other than "we're fighting our guts out" or "we're working him in on our packages", you can really learn a lot.

For example, Gregg Williams seems to let that sorry SOB Rogers determine his cushion off the receiver. Unless you're Champ Bailey or another proven Vet, shouldn't we be coaching Carlos on how far to play off the receiver? We're letting a 2nd year piece of cow dung play 20 yards off the line because that's what HE wants to do?

I'm seriously at a loss for words on this team and organization. The play calling, the 30 coaches, the wheeling and dealing of our draft picks, the over spending on other teams garbage only to let your "core guys" go to other teams, the circus atmosphere with Danny and TomKat, etc... I just don't get it.

This organization is in complete shambles and it's beyond frustration.

As I raise my hand, who else is contemplating NOT renewing their season tickets next year?

Posted by: Ricky Bobby | November 20, 2006 10:11 AM | Report abuse

I'm with Meg. Coach Joe has been too PC, too neutral, too soft. It's about time he became a BADA$$ and started putting overpaid players AND coaches in their place. He's not coaching high school girls softball. With the exception of a scant few, these divas need to be brought down to Planet Earth and play the game like men.

BTW,

1. JC, TJ & CC looked great!

2. Can't trade CP - he's astronomically expensive - nobody else has The Danny's $$.

3. Rogers plays with that much cushion because he's told to (he gets no help and we can't afford to let go of the big plays (actually, we can't afford to keep letting go of the regular plays either).

4. Has anybody heard if Wise is Czaban's replacement or if last night was a one time stint? I thought he did a decent job.

P.S.: Dallas still sucks!

J-la: You looked good on Fox this morning. I was going to open my mouth Aabout yesterday's game, but you said pretty much everything I was looking to say, right on TV this morning.

Oh, what the heck, I'm going to open my mouth, anyway.

The Souper - I have a bit more hope, at least for the QB position. Given that yes, Tampa's defense was a bit more broken than usual, it wasn't like we were taking on the Bears. But given we were without Oye Como Va & Dolla, and our playcalling was rather suspect, I thought The Souper did rather well. Had Lloyd made that catch, the Tampa D would not have been so eager to blitz throughout the game.

The two touchdowns were the most telling for me. I could see BenchMark trying those same plays, but if it were de Ocho at the helm, the first score would have been tossed out of bounds, and the second score would have been in the hands of the defender.

The Souper's Guts Factor was high, Bingas Factor low, and his arm strength was quite adequate - whomever said that Souper's passing was a bit too lofty and not enough zippy needs to have their head examined. Now, Saunders just needs to take advantage of the his arm, and we'll be doing better, all round.

And now, the bad.

Our rushing game - HEA-VY JUM-BO! HEA-VY JUM-BO! Betts wasn't getting anywhere, yesterday. Good Lord, if TJ Duckett was your leading rusher, stick with TJ Duckett! Who's choosing the personnel to go on the field - Nancy Reagan with her tea leafologist? Or is Vinny playing Madden again?

Our D - Where do we start? Do we even want to start? This laundry list is getting repetitive, now. Heck, the Maginot Line was less pourous. Even worse, there's no one solid reason why it's total shabingas. This 'bend, not break, grasshopper' scheme is turning into 'bend, then break'! And someone please teach somebody that pass coverage constitutes actually being near the receiver, not 'being in range of the Old Leather cologne'. De-bingas yourselves, you idiots!

The Tampa playcalling - Note to Redskins: No-Bounce is not a good 1-on-1 matchup to Mike Alstott. Never, EVER a good matchup. It just befuddles me why the Buckin' Ears (don't tell me you haven't heard the Bucaneers joke?) didn't plow us over with Man-Bull. Because they should have.

Dana C,

I heard that Czabe was suspended by Comcast for 1 game and that the Redskins put pressure on CSN to do so by threatening to limit CSN's access.

Even if that's not true, time and time again we've seen that Snyder and company are more worried, it seems, about their imagine then winning games.

If we were 7-3 I could understand, but we are 3-7... HELLO... that's not good, Danny Boy... your team, your coaches, and YOU deserve every last negative article and every last question about WHY. If you can't deal with it, get out of the business, you INSECURE LITTLE NAPOLEAN!

Diddy: there are quite a few parallels (not to mention a few connections) between the Broncos/Skins. Shanny=greeat coach. I agree, jake is not taking the broncos to the promised land and the fact that the broncos traded up to get Jay Cutler doesn't bode well for Jake.

Also, broncos running game is suffering w/ Shanny not knowing who is going to start from week-to-week.

Not predicting anything at this point b/c it's too early to do so, but keep in mind that:
1) Broncos could have chosen JC and didn't. So next year they have to trade up to get Cutler, who'll more then likely will be rushed onto the field next season.
2) After trading CP away, Broncos still don't have an answer at running back and Shanny was dead set on selecting L.Maroney in the first round until the opportunity came to move up and get Cutler.
3) Jim Armstrong (denver post columnist) reports this AM on his radio show that Ted Sundquist (Broncos GM) and the DP beat writers are all convinced that there is a slim chance of the Broncos making out pick-wise on the TJ ducket trade.

While I am all for paying Qwest to put all of the phone numbers in the ashburn area code onto the broncos Do-not-distrub list, I am not sure that they have fleeced us as badly as it's been made to look at this point.

JlaC: any chance we can get a breakdown of the TJ/Lelie/Picks trade? There is an awful lot of negative press around the trade. However, I'm not sure anyone really understands the terms. Having some more detail would be useful in helping us make up our minds regarding how good or bad it was...

Don't worry, Diddy! Keira may be engaged, she may get married, but in Hollywood these things are cyclical. And, besides, it's extremely important to get that bad first marriage out of your system early.
I think the problem with the defense is the fatal conceit that the system is the thing. Sure, it may be. But you have to tweak it for the players' talents, not just expect them to adjust. Because not all of them can.

So we want to draft a DE in the first round. We have drafted defense early in the draft the last several years and have nothing to show for it: S. Taylor has shown signs of being a great player, but he's not there yet, don't know what the hell is wrong with C. Rogers, and Rocky McIntosh can't even win a starting job over Warrick Holdman. What makes anybody think using an early draft pick on defense again this year is going to help? If we draft a DE, he'll just sit on the bench and watch Andre Carter and Philip Daniels play all season. Gwilliams will not play a rookie DE. Seems like we are one of the slowest teams in the league on developing our young talent. To me that seems like a coaching problem. I also believe Gwilliams style of defense has taken away some of the things S. Taylor does best. He's a natural ball hawk and when given the freedom to rome could come up with a lot of INT's (e.g., Miami). Now he has to play in a disciplined defense and isn't given the freedom he needs to be a ball hawk. He's actually regressed with G. Williams coaching, as did Lavar Arrington, another ball hawk player. How many years can we continue to draft defensive players, only to watch the defense get worse. I would suggest taking an O-lineman in the first round if you ask me.

J. Campbell - wow, this guy impressed me and gives me hope for the future. Brunell probably would have been sacked 5-6 times in this game, but Campbell was able to get away from the rush and complete passes because of his mobility in the pocket. We've certainly improved at QB. Just compare Brunell's last game:

Brunell engineered 3 points of offense and threw an interception for a TD.

Campbell's only game:
Engineered 17 points of offense without Portis or S. Moss, and did not thow any interceptions. Tough to improve on this game, but Campbell will get better. His decision making was fantastic for a rookie QB!!!

Ricky Bobby,

This is the last comment I will make about this BUT...all I'm saying is...the Skins have accepted very NEGATIVE comments from B Mitch, Ken Harvey and many others but stupid jerk Czabe who has no knowledge greater than ours continues to make insane comments which further alienate him from the organization. I personally do not blame them.

I second the motion for an O-lineman. Cause right now, the o-line stinks...pewyeww.

And Grilliams no longer gets that moniker. From now on I'm calling him 'Gwilly'. At least until he fixes the damn D.

Redskin fans Suck-
I made you a simple pride wager and you're too much of a pooosy to take me up on it. I think this shows YOU are the clown and you don't have any confidence in Romo and the Cowgirls to get into the playoffs. You know they're gonna break your little heart so at the end of the season, you and Boofer can give each other backrubs while you share tissues from the same boo hoo box!

Redskin fans Suck, boy you really need to get real. Roy got burned for a touchdown and intercepted one. I guess we can call that a push but HE WILL GET BURNED AGAIN. What no smart comment about your coach. I wonder why? Could it be I 'm right. Say what you want but again check the stats. Joe Gibbs = 3 Super Bowls , Parcells = 2 Super Bowls. Joe Gibbs = Hall of Fame Coach , Parcells = I quit and keeping coming back to lose but I will probably get in the Hall. Joe's been away longer but has won at least a playoff game, Parcells?

Memo to Coach Gibbs out THERE at Redskin Park:

Play Rocky McIntosh for crying out loud. We traded up to get him and are now out of the playoff chase. It makes no sense to keep him on the bench like you and Grilliams are.

Dang people you are violating the heck out of the bloglaws. No more Czaban, please? I am begging you. This is the biggest non issue in history.

My Canadian relatives were in town all weekend so I haven't even read the gameday+ posts. So I'm probably repetitive and missing key points in my comments - please forgive me to quote that other Canadian Brian Adams.

I have to say this loss while sucking as usual didn't feel quite as bad. It's probably because well I'm used to it and resigned to suckage but Soups gave me hope yesterday. Sure the Bucs D wasn't 100% but he made some plays and moved around and holy Toledo he has an arm! The most important thing was he didn't make any colossal errors of judgement although there could have been a couple ints that would have me going the other way. On the other hand, there were a couple of dropped passes especially in the beginning that would have been mmm mmm good.
I did laugh out loud the 4-5 times he winged the ball out of the park because his timing was so off but he's a rookie and you know what I'm not in the corner in the fetal position whimpering and sucking on my thumb which is a good sign . . .since that is what we're reduced to at this point.

Okay now what is the FLINGING FLANGING problem with our defense, besides all the obvious things. We did stop a couple of third downs and made almost a goal line stand. But @(#%&(@#$&%($@&!!!!! Carlos Rodgers JOGGED on that blitz JOGGED I tell you! Did these guys get together at the beginning of the season and get a betting pool going on who could have the biggest number of bad and/or missed tackles!?!?!?

Bright spots of Sunday - Soups, fewer penalties, team seems to be supporting and psyched about Soups, oh and Duckett played.

Why I will cry in my beer and throw up in my mouth - defense, defense, defense and lack of running game, fact that all the press and quotes seem to be pointing to a Portis exit.

Thanks for reading if you bothere what is surely recycled, repetitive, duh obvi set of comments.

I've put my opinion on the O-line on hold, until we can get other teams worried about the fact that The Souper actually has some sort of arm, and defenses get burned more often than not putting blitz plays on every down. Until that shift happens (whenever AlSau-ran and/or JoGi deems it suitable), the O-line is going to look like a pile of roly-poly fatboys, each and every week. Besides, believe it our not, our offense did actually get down the field. Our D was just as generous to the Buckin' Ears - we have pressing needs to fill there.

And as to the new Gwilly nickname, 'Gwilligan' is beginning to grow in appeal. Then we can start using trite and sad little references, like "Gwilligan, get off the island!".

There it is there the new name for our defensive(IF you want to call it that)coach: Gwilligan. Any seconds !!!!!!!!!!

Redskins still Suck, Am I getting to you because repeat your statement again "playoff and superbowl contender". Doesn't say playoff or superbowl winner. Joe Gibbs back what 3years now with one playoff win under his belt and how long has the fat Tuna been back and what does he have under his belt but that spare tire - losses not even a playoff win. Be for real with yourself. Hard to win three superbowls with three different quaterbacks and running backs but yoou wouldn't know because the fat Tuna hasn't won three yet. Oh and as far as building a contender, check the facts it's usually a one year run and then all of a sudden it's everybody else's fault but his that's why he is the Sugar Ray Leonard of the NFL Mr Unretired himself

thanks editor. but nothing's gonna cheer me up...not for another 2 years. this team's philosophy's so out of whack and unfortunately they're in denial stage right now. i wish we had problems of other teams like this team needs a RB, or D-line, or a QB, D-coord, O-coord, HC... help. that's something that can be fixed. but THIS? this, as a fan you wait it out 3 years at a time.

UNLESS snyder has a guttcheck moment and tells joe "joe, you were never good at this. either be an HC or get out." and we all know that's not going to happen.
