Inactives

So will Reed Doughty play ahead of Archuleta this week? He's active, so it could be. Vernon Fox is up also.

No surprises from the rest of the group. Vincent and Patten still hurt. Rumph, Molinaro, Boschetti, Whitley and Montgomery also down. Little surprised that under the circumstances there are not a few reps for Montgomery today, but then again, what do I know?

With Moss still coming off that hamstring injury they also dressed 5 WRs as I suspected. Espy is a go.

Saw that Deshaun foster is out, thought great, we're catching a break and then it hit me . . .

might be the worst thing that happened as this defense is capable of making his replacementlook like jim brown . . .UGH!!!

Posted by: skinsfan@8KaboveMSL | November 26, 2006 12:46 PM | Report abuse

Am I missing something as to why Fox shouldn't be in there? Because I didn't seem him get beat once in the past couple weeks he's been in.

Archuleta can't be in the game for two plays before he gets burned (see Dallas game a few weeks ago).

Vernon Fox!

something decent actually happens when Ade Jimoh is on the field on defense. . . must be an omen

Posted by: skinsfan@8KaboveMSL | November 26, 2006 1:10 PM | Report abuse

Three and out again. Sigh.

Posted by: Jason's editor | November 26, 2006 1:13 PM | Report abuse

Redd Foxx is the best safety ever.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 26, 2006 1:16 PM | Report abuse

This is great field position. How do they not score from here?

Posted by: Jason's editor | November 26, 2006 1:20 PM | Report abuse

I think it's time to turn to page 647 in the playbook. You know, the page with the downfield passes.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 26, 2006 1:22 PM | Report abuse

Um, yeah. That might be a good idea. I fear Redd Foxx will tired if the defense is on the field for any length of time.

Posted by: Jason's editor | November 26, 2006 1:23 PM | Report abuse

Panthers pass rush is so good the managed to stop our passing game before even getting on the field!

Posted by: skinsfan@8KaboveMSL | November 26, 2006 1:24 PM | Report abuse

>>> "How do they not score from here?"

Because there's a lot of leftover turkey on the field.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 26, 2006 1:24 PM | Report abuse

second coming of jim brown . . .

Posted by: skinsfan@8KaboveMSL | November 26, 2006 1:25 PM | Report abuse

Finally, someone gets a first down.

Hey, T.J. Duckett gets some contact, from Rock Cartwright on the sideline!

Posted by: Jason's editor | November 26, 2006 1:33 PM | Report abuse

I love page 647.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 26, 2006 1:34 PM | Report abuse

did the o line actually keep suop upright long enough to get the ball down field? can't believe what i'm seeing

Posted by: skinsfan@8KaboveMSL | November 26, 2006 1:35 PM | Report abuse

I'm willing to bet that Betts is done.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 26, 2006 1:36 PM | Report abuse

Gotta like what you're seeing out of #17.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 26, 2006 1:37 PM | Report abuse

What is with Moss today, hands not too good.

Posted by: BT | November 26, 2006 1:39 PM | Report abuse

who was soups getting on at the end of that run?

Betts looked like I did right after getting mauled by the TG turkey . . .

"Save the baby, save the planet".

LOVE IT.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 26, 2006 1:40 PM | Report abuse

Dunno if Betts is done, hard to tell. That guy who looks like Teller, from Penn and Teller, was examining him.

Posted by: Jason's editor | November 26, 2006 1:41 PM | Report abuse

That's the problem when you don't ever play Duckett. He is not used to getting hit.

Posted by: BT | November 26, 2006 1:42 PM | Report abuse

Novak, you're killing me!!!

Posted by: BT | November 26, 2006 1:43 PM | Report abuse

It's the indian curse. How I hate being a skins fan.

Posted by: Skinz | November 26, 2006 1:43 PM | Report abuse

Looked like Penn, from Penn and Teller, kicking the ball for the Redskins.

Posted by: BT | November 26, 2006 1:44 PM | Report abuse

would love to see the grim reaper get back to his old ways and take some of that pep out of steve smith's step

That Cingular BlackJack commercial isn't half bad.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 26, 2006 1:49 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: Skinz | November 26, 2006 1:52 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: Jason's editor | November 26, 2006 1:54 PM | Report abuse

Speaking of commercials, "Rocky Balboa" has to be the worst movie ever made. Ever.

Posted by: Jason's editor | November 26, 2006 1:55 PM | Report abuse

here we go, another opportunity for an 8-minute 90-yard 15 play drive

Posted by: skinsfan@8KaboveMSL | November 26, 2006 1:56 PM | Report abuse

"Rocky Balboa" is indeed tragic. The first "Rocky" was exceptionally well written and is one of my favorite screenplays of all time. Name that screenwriter.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 26, 2006 1:56 PM | Report abuse

"Rocky McIntosh" or "Rock-y Cartwright" would be more interesting than "Rocky Balboa."

Posted by: Jason's editor | November 26, 2006 1:57 PM | Report abuse

There goes Rogers again, beat and WR's overthrown. Rogers takes it upon himself to run his mouth. I guess if you can't run with em'you run your mouth to em.

Posted by: Skinz | November 26, 2006 1:57 PM | Report abuse

"Rocky Balboa" would be interesting if Rocky were played by buff ref Ed Hochuli.

Posted by: Jason's editor | November 26, 2006 1:58 PM | Report abuse

Diddy, the screenwriter was Stallone, no?

Posted by: Jason's editor | November 26, 2006 1:59 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: skinsfan@8KaboveMSL | November 26, 2006 2:03 PM | Report abuse

Yup, Stallone. He was nominated for the Oscar as well.

I'd love to see Hochuli in a movie. I wonder if he's as vain in real life as he seems on teevee.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 26, 2006 2:04 PM | Report abuse

Jason's editor - are you serious? Go for it on 4th and inches from your own 30? Please tell me you are joking.

Posted by: BT | November 26, 2006 2:07 PM | Report abuse

Maybe it's my assistant fooling around with my sound system, but it seems to me that the ambient stadium noise is drowning out the announcers on this game.

Not that I'm complaining.

Posted by: P Diddy | November 26, 2006 2:09 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: Jason's editor | November 26, 2006 2:14 PM | Report abuse

it's still early, but big question is what happened w/ the defense to make them perform like they've done so far? hard to imagine why if tom friend's article is on the mark . . .

These announcers are such dopes! The reason Sean Taylor tried to pick up the ball was because he saw that one of the Panthers touched it, thus the Redskins can't lose it (even if he fumbles)! Are they watching the same game I am.

None of us can stop singing that NFL replay jingle....and I'm debating with another editor whether "How 'bout that cowboy?" or "We're gonna have to move our glass meeting cube" is the best line from the man-law commercial.
It has come to this.

The Cutler call was coming. It was a very odd vibe Thursday night in KC; the media knew the benching was coming. Shanahan wouldn't talk after the game and so, oddly because he didn't play a down, Cutler was mugged by reporters in locker room.

From Mark Kisla this AM:

"Whenever the Broncos endure a disappointing season, there's always some fool to take the fall at Dove Valley, deflecting blame from the savvy coach in charge. Plummer wilts on the same hot seat once reserved for defensive coordinator Greg Robinson or Michael Dean Perry, the D-lineman who hustled off the field too slowly by Shanahan's clock. The accusations of failure to do his homework that cause Plummer to bristle now sound suspiciously like the whispers that Bubby Brister was dumber than a pet rock."

you'd think the broncos were 3-7

I was thinking the same the Dealer. It's such a tough call though. If you have any faith in your O you make that call. Rookie QB, floundering offense. I'm not sure.

skinsfan, the reason I love the Broncos is that their fans are just as particular and demanding as 'Skins fans. Very similar franchises, except, of course, Denver is a horribly dull city.

The thing about the NFL is that it all comes down to your QB and your defense. I would never bet against Belichek and Brady.

Plus, home field means very little in the playoffs anymore. Once you're in the dance, anyone can tango.

I second the Blaw.

As for the team's record... The games that will come back to haunt the 'Skins are the Minnesota opener and the Titans game. Two games they should have won, and had they done so, they would be 6-5 and in fine shape to make a run. The other games (Colts, Giants, Cowboys, Eagles) were probably ones we all penciled in as losses when the schedule came out. I doubt they would have lost the Bucs game if there was something to play for.

But as Frank Herzog used to say, "If if's and but's were candies and nuts, what a wonderful Christmas it would be."

You know, I'll never understand folks who say they "hate" Tom Brady. Did anyone "hate" Joe Montana back in the day? Sure, you could despise the Niners or the Patriots. But how can you dislike Joe Cool or Tom Brady? Brady is a dude that's won, what, three Super Bowls? He's all class on the field and off, and he's a damn fine athlete. Even more than that, he has worked very hard for everything he has and has never once been handed his fortune on a silver platter.

I'm not one to ever wish I had another life because I am blessed beyond belief with what I have. But if there's anyone, perhaps the only one, I would ever want to trade places with, it's Brady.

I am continually impressed with him. Sure, he's not completely infallible. But right now, he and Peyton Manning are the best at what they do. As football fans, you have to admire them both.

Nate Clements CB
Cato June WLB
Lance Briggs WLB
Charles Grant DE
Adalius Thomas SLB
Justin Smith DE
Deon Grant FS
Michael Lewis SS

Kawika Mitchell LB

I'd love to see any of those names in a Skin uniform next year since we always win free agency.

I, too, was promised a promotion after Kodak bought out my lil' pre-IPO company if I stayed onboard. The Kodak VP they brought to DC to take over Ops was the one who made the promise. Well... even though I "Exceeded Expectations" on every rated category - the Kodak VP "changed his mind."

I became upset and called out the VP on his lie. When nothing changed at the highest Kodak level, I quit with zero notice. My team quit shortly thereafter leaving Kodak in a bind.

To this day I will never buy another Kodak product - ever.

"We could tell that there was something wrong," right tackle Jon Jansen said. "But he picked up and just took us out there and we ran the play, and it was big."

He is only going to get better. I am looking for the remainder of the season now.

P Diddy,

I never thought for a second it was Springs - I've watched him on TV a lot (what can I say, the man makes me MELT!) and he always seemed to like Williams. In fact, in the interview today Springs said "Yes, Greg is arrogant but so am I...does not bother me at all - I like those kind of people." He said the culprit should have went directly to Williams and said that he would have done so. He said it brought the "family" closer and definitely motivated them. He said "why would I say that? They treat me great....I only practice 2 days a week and make good money" He was laughing when it said this.

Is this the game where The Reaper grows up and into his own?
SOUPS!! Not the greatest game in the world but I'll tell you what the kid has composure and the fact that after virtually every drive he went and sat down and reviewed stuff with a coach was visually impressive at least. Then when Peppers knocked him down I think Jansen actually ran over to pick him up. The TD passes to ARE and Cooley were both thrown in pretty good spots.

Here is the thing - D played superb - Fellas GREAT playing but for the love of pete A#1)act like you've been there and B#2)doing your job well doesnt' require a TD dance every time. YEAH WIN but we're still 4-7.

I've decided to model my behaviour on theirs so everytime I went to the bathroom, got a drink, ate some chips I did a celebration dance. WOO I gotta drink! WOO look at me! WOO I flushed the toiled woo (pound my chest) WOO!

It's sort of a sad commentary on the state of today's game that it takes Gibbs threatening a job review, ESPN writing a tell all insider story, and a home game to get the defense fired up. They had this same capability all year.

Campbell- Nice Scramble, good throws, I would give him a 32 game leash, but I remember Ramsey mopping up some impressive wins in the 6-10 year too, so Gibbs could have more plans for Brunel (who had the full elbow pad gear on today I noted).

McIntosh- Time to start over Holdman, Holdman one good play, but lot'sof getting blocked and poor pass coverage. Punt block, special team, how could he fail on regular D.

Betts- Decent. Saw that decorticate syndrome with the frozen hands after the hit though..scary.

Duckett- A wrecking ball, give him more carries. Ditto for Sellars.

Samuels- Decent run blocking, but still horrible on blitz pick ups and some missed assignements. Pucillo may have some promise.

REAPER. - Yes! Especially liked the pile driver on the Fullback in the flat, dude's always tryin to knock people out. (Must not let leave)

Cooley. - Yes! Semi Decent Speed, Hands, & tough to bring down. (Must not let leave)

Golston. A late round FIND!

I will watch another game!

Good Lord, just when I thought some of these guys were going to keep the nicknames we've been laying on them, some people just wake up! Though I tensed up watching the game, having a nominal non-denominational faith in The Souper (or at least, he's part of the way to earning 'The', in my book)carried me through it. The Bingas Factor dropped quite a bit.

Odds and ends, starting with the D. Though I think it was partially the fact that DeShaun Foster wasn't in uniform for the game, the pass and run coverage was signifigantly better, as you all well saw. The Jackal decided to err on the better side of the Jaguar, in particular - he was covering pretty darned well. No-Bounce on Steve Smith was rather dumbfounding. And with those guys doing their bidness, Der Reaper was allowed to freelance a little bit more than usual. Besides the occasional 'Objects Are Closer Than They Appear' coverage that they reverted to several times, the secondary had a fairly sound game.

The Fatboys and The Middling People had themselves a decent game as well. They were getting the rush in, and for the most part, didn't leave the secondary to clean up after sloppy tackling. Golston was doing a pretty damned good job of keeping the middle pinned down. Even Can't Getta got a few plays in, though I'm still in agreement with the rest of you that it's time for Rockomac to run with the bulls.

The offense? Simply chaaaahming. The running game was blunt and effective. The passing game could still use some work, but more to cater to the fact that a) The Souper has a decent arm on him, b) The Souper can move his can, unlike BenchMark, and c) The Souper makes plays to advance the ball, rather than to satisfy an overactive paranoid survival instinct. The line is also seeming to handle things better, though I think it's mostly a reaction to just how willing The Souper keeps in the pocket until the last second possible. Now, get him to get that ball out faster, and we gots a sign of some unoffensive offense.

The only deficient part of the game was the kicking game. I'm still struggling to find a nickname for Novak that I'm comfortable with - NoShank is a bit awkward for me. NoVanks, NoChip (Lohmiller), BloVac... maybe something like that. Anyway, Novak is one of those leaners - you know, where you watch the TV, and physically lean, in the desperate hope that your 1/gazillionth of the mass of the planet will deflect the spin of the earth just enough to get some fat farmer in Kansas to flatuate and shove the ball inside the goalposts? Yeah.

You know Cindy's just dying for Campbell to have a great game so she can use the "Campbell is Super" headline.

Actually, I was half-expecting that moment to be revealed as "Campbell is Chunky".....
