Incognito Baffled by Penalty

From Les Carpenter and Jason La Canfora:

Rams guard Richie Incognito seemed baffled after the game as to why he was hit with a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty with just seconds remaining and the Rams on the 17-yard line, about to kick a game-winning field goal. The penalty forced St. Louis back to the 32-yard-line and forced kicker Josh Brown to make a much longer field goal, which he did.

"I cannot explain it," Incognito said.

He said that as Rams quarterback Marc Bulger kneeled to run out the clock, setting up the field goal, several Redskins players tried to swat the ball from his hands, causing a minor scrum between players from both teams. He said running back Stephen Jackson was trying to pull him away from the scuffle when the flag was dropped.

Rams Coach Jim Haslett said the officials told him Incognito was penalized for swearing.
"My mom will be mad at me," Incognito said.

He said he was not upset by the penalty, adding that he felt the need to defend his quarterback.

"They took a swing at Marc," he said. "We were all jaw jacking."

Several Redskins said that Incognito blurred the lines of fair play more than once. "He could have got several penalties, several personal fouls," linebacker London Fletcher said. "That's his M.O. He does a lot of late hitting, grabbing face masks, things like that. The referee could have actually gave him a penalty before he even [was called for personal foul in the final minute]."

My sentiments exactly. Save that for a notes column in the paper.

Here's an answer on the play involving Leigh Torrence:

All eyes were on Torrence (who left the locker room without speaking to reporters), his mistake impossible to miss, though in reality he was one of several defenders — in particular, rookie safeties Kareem Moore and Chris Horton — who did poorly on the sequence. Defensive coordinator Greg Blache, who called more blitzes Sunday than he had all season, was in a dime package (six defensive backs), wanting Moore and Horton to attack quarterback Marc Bulger on this third-and — 13 play from the St. Louis 41. They never came close to reaching him, the Pro Bowl passer had too much time to deliver the football and Avery had ample opportunity to meet the deep pass in the air, slipping free of Torrence just enough to haul it in.

Cowboys LOSE!!! Only good thing to happen today.

I think any posts about a player named "Incognito" are justified, no matter what the topic.

Thanks, Cindy!

Future suggestions: No one noticed Incognito standing there.

I haven't read any comments. I didn't really see the game, but heard it on the radio.

All I got to say is......

STAY MEDIUM!

Dont worry Cindy..Some of us found it interesting, 'cause you dont normally see a penalty for something like that. I d like to hear more about the Torrence vs. Haaaaaslett screaming match.

My take? There really is no reason any player should be coming into contact (in a negative way) with opposing coaches. Seems like he was being a bit arrogant, and received his comeuppance at the end of the game.

Richie got the win, but the video shows the lie of his statement. He was chewing out the ref, repeatedly, and finally after going too far one too many times, he was flagged. No Skins players were in his face, he was behind his own teammates with only the umpire in view. Sorry, but you weren't incognito (groan) in this case.

Stay medium, that's right.

Cowpies lose, a demoralizing overtime special teams breakdown. I love it!

Skins will be back. Cowpies may implode.

Can't wait to hear what Team Obliterator says in the Dallas locker room after this one!

I don't understand why Greg put No. 29? I mean he is not shawn spring or Smoot. This is the important down.. Come on.. I saw him a few times busted before.( last year and this year),, If we can stop and we win.. But unfortunately..

4skins lose @ home to a winless Rams team and fans are happy Dallas lost? When you don't expect much from your own team and you have to hope other, better teams lose, I wonder which team is really in trouble. I guess losing to team that is going to go 2-14 even at home is really no big deal for a Redskin team that hit it's season peak last week. Teams will catch up to Zorn's offense.

We're happy anytime the Cowpies lose. It is a shame though, that the Skins could have picked up a game on them with a victory at FedEx today. It's really more like we're taking solace in the Cowpies' defeat than being happy.

BTW, Richie Incognito was a jerk when he played his college ball here at Nebraska, and I see that nothing has changed.

IMO, Incognito got the penalty for saying "F... Y.., Boy" to one of the game officials who happened to be African American. Fox showed it and this is my opinion of what he said based on lip reading. He definitely said Boy at the end of his comment. The official in question immediately threw the flag at that point.

i can not beleive how the refs let this guy get away with the crap he did. he should have been penalized at least 5 times. some one needs to yeach the refs how to call those penalties on incognito. the skins should have won anyway. the refs should be the difference in the outcome.
