Pregame Update: Injury Thoughts

I'm not sure the Skins are going to be able to get too many snaps out of DE Jason Taylor and CB Shawn Springs tonight. Taylor is coming off two weeks out and just getting used to his knee brace -- with a long season ahead, I'm not sure you need to push it too much in Week 1. Springs, meantime, is dealing with some severe discomfort in his calf I hear, and having difficulty running.

Will be interested to see how much, or little, these guys do in warmups.

It's hot as heck up here -- gotta be pushing mid 90s on the field (though J Reid is looking dapper in his suit and too cool to even break a sweat). The traffic around the stadium is already getting gnarly four hours before kickoff, but I gotta give full props to Delaware for cleaning up its act and allowing for free and easy transport through the state on the drive up. Good lookin' out.

Okay, off to do the chat now. See ya there.

But Taylor will get at least one snap in to keep the 9th ranked consecutive starts streak going for active players?

Gawd, I HATE Larry Michael. I mute the sound when he's on!!!

Posted by: Anonymous | September 4, 2008 3:38 PM | Report abuse

It's one thing or another with Springs. I know this injury wasn't his fault but they seem to crop up on him all the time. We are doomed without him in the lineup. Rogers can't cover (he couldn't before his injury) and I'm sure he's worst now. Smoot is decent but not great... and Tryon!!! he's definitely been tryon to suck and succeeded in doing so this last pre-season. sorry, had to do the tryon bit.

3 1/2 wide receivers? the first first down the redskins get tonight will be in the 3rd quarter. We may even see Colt by the end of the game.

Jints are down 5 starters on defense from last year, including their top 2 guys.

We're down Daniels/Taylor (same postion), perhaps Springs. LL didn't play preseason, so we'll see how he is.

The Jints have more issues on D than we do.

Posted by: AL Zeke etc | September 4, 2008 3:44 PM

It would be better they have more issues on offense since it's our defense they face.

Been a while between posts for me, but had to say it couldn't be more clear tonight: If the Skins get two passes over 25 yds in the first half, they win or, at a minimum, keep it very close. Otherwise, forget it. If we can't show a legit long threat we are looking at 8-9 Gnats in the box killing our screens, guts and slants all day.

from last post:

I have actually been a Janso supporter, who finds many of the attacks on him childish, and I think he is the kind of dude I would prolly be friends with...

But I got say Cindy his reporting has been kind of a sham up here lately....lazy, obviously personal and overly snarky without being all that funny.....

c'mon rein it in a bit could' ya

An AP post, more weird Heyer obsessions, more some guy observations (and yes I understand using unnamed sources)to anon back up your age-ple points....

Ultimately though unless the skins can shut him up with their play, it matters not...

I know it's during the game, but Joe Gibbs will be speaking at the Rep. convention tonight at 7:50. In case any one gets bored watching the skins run up the score and wants to tune in.

My FF WRs this week are Larry Fitzgerald and Reggie Wayne. But I could move Thrash up into one of their slots. Kickoff is coming up so I need to decide soon. Any suggestions?

Posted by: AL Zeke etc | September 4, 2008 3:49 PM | Report abuse

I need some help with using the proper epithets as I scream at the TV tonight, wallowing in my own crapulence and switching between the game and the convention... The game I'm good. I know that Eli is most properly referred to as a "bed-wetting Nancy boy." Of course Coughlin would be "Anal Annie." And Pierce can alternately be decried simply as "Traitor" or more colorfully as "Big ball sucker." Danny is "meglo-manical midget" or "The Snydes." The Vinny names probably shouldn't be printed. Got it, there I'm good.

The problem I have in using the appropriate language is with the convention. Would the Palin clan more accurately be described as "ice-billies" or as "tundra-billies"? I know there are hills in Alaska, but using hillbillies I think would be a disservice to the fine people of Appalachia, such as like Skippy. There needs to be some kind of monicker tied to Alaska's particular geographical features that will give distinction to the state's most prominent family and their own particular brand of blithe ignorance, irrational fear-mongering, and corruption-fueled conservatism. Anyway, I'm leaning toward "tundra-billies."

Posted by: Greg | September 4, 2008 4:05 PM

Toss in a few more facts ...

In the last 3 drafts, the Skins have drafted
2 OL (3rd and 7th round),
2 TE (2nd and 7th)
2 QB (both 6th)

considering there are only 3 QB slots and 3 TE slots compared to around 8-10 O-line positions, you'd have to say the drafting was pretty light in that area

"Jason La Canfora: Not uncomfortable at all. Just doing my job. I can handle criticsm, he had better learn to.
His record speaks for itself. I'm here to work for the fans/readers, not him. They have enough people on the payroll trying to make them look good, let them send the Christmas cards to them.

I don't think Cowher has any intention of coming here. Pete Carroll is my guess for the next high profile coach of the Skins. If they fire a guy for 5-11, that's nuts. You're only as good as your personnel guy and they ignored the O Line and D line, again, for the most part. That's not Jim Zorn's domain my friend. And Gibbs went all of 6-10 in his first year back and 5-11 in 2006.

You guys count all the coaches and systems to come through here with great records, fail here, and then go on and flourish elswhere. They can't all be wrong. Look at the common denomenators during the whole thing - the owner and his right hand guy. It starts there. "

Is that the definition of obsessed or the definition of bitter? Let's hear it.

Giants - 56
4Skins - 0

JC will be erratic and getting sacked all night. Jansen will get another day older, decomposing on the sidelines. The 10 rookies on the roster will get better with their cheer leading skills.

Brandon Jacobs will be running over and through 4Skins D. Eli will look like Brady, because the Skins secondary is sadly missing S. Taylor.

3 guys drafted on the D-line

The 5 o-line + d-line picks from the last 3 years:
Lefotu, Reinhart, Jackson, Golston and Montgomery

The o-line/d-line represents 9/22 starters and 5/21 draft picks.

These 5 picks were:
3rd round, 5th round, 6th round and 2 in the 7th round

Jasno overstated it when he says they 'ignored' the lines, but they are far fewer picks on the line and those picks are at lower levels
