Moss, Samuels and the Injury Report

WR Santana Moss was not on the field as much as usual last night, given his hamstring issues, and is looking forward to the bye. "It didn't get any worse," Moss said of the hamstring. "It pretty much held up." Moss said he plans to do "nothing" during the bye week, other than rest.

LT Chris Samuels was walking fine despite his knee injury, but the team will continue to monitor it closely and he likely will require surgery at some point.

DE Jason Taylor is still nursing a calf injury but said that "by far this is the best I've felt since surgery." The second surgery on his calf has relieved a lot of tension in the area, but until he starts playing football again Taylor said it is difficult to judge precisely how far along he is. Taylor said he has not felt this good, though, since before hurting his knee in the preseason.

DT Anthony Montgomery (ankle) is wearing a walking boot and said he does not know yet how severe the injury is.

CB Shawn Springs says he began jogging last week and fully expects to play against Dallas after the bye. Like alll players requiring treatment, he will workout daily at Redskins Park this week, and said he may miss a day or two of practice when the team returns, but will be ready for the Cowboys.

WR Malcolm Kelly has been resting his chronically sore knee for a few weeks now but will step up his program this week in hopes of being able to practice at least in a limited capacity when the team resumes (as an aside - with Devin Thomas running the wrong routes, Moss hobbled a bit and no depth at WR, and Pittsburgh beating up the QB, I remain befuddled about why Zorn thought he could spread the field that much last night and win).

"I'm going to step it up this week and start running more," said Kelly, who has played in just two games this season. If he's not able to practice next week, look for Kelly to be placed on IR and another WR signed.

Ugh... get well soon, dudes. We're gonna need all of you...

Fine.

Get rest.

Then get healthy.

Then get mad.

We need Springs for Dallas, Betts for NYG, and Moss for always. Samuels i dont know, because he got abused last night.

Well, actually, not you, Malcolm. Just the rest of the dudes.

No article about Leftwich? DC hometown kid comes out of the bullpen to paste his hometown team he grew up idolizing?

Missed the Rogers post but I disagree. That was 6 points to the good and who knows, momentum, fan participation, butterfly effect, etc. The blocked punt was on the next skins possession. Darn you and your hands of stone Carlos.

Also, I'm feeling better after hearing the injury report.

Sounds like we are getting some players back healthy very soon.

And possibly MK12 too........

4th, I don't know if you're one of the people boycotting Wilbon, but his column is devoted to Leftwich:

I'd like to profess my love for red on red uni's. I hope they don't abandon it because they lost. The red jersey/white pants combo should be outlawed and never spoken of again.

That game really sucked but if we had to lose, at least it was a non conference game. And now we have a bye week to stew about it and get healthy for the girls' visit.

Carlos drop changed the game. just like it changed the game in seattle in 2005.

Between that drop and Kendalls brain fart vs Rams, could be 8-1.

But probably where we should be at 6-3 with that awful showing last night.

So you DON'T WANT Kelly to get healthy? What an idiotic thing to say.

You're better than that Nate.

Craig,

I think he was talking about the 'We're gonna need all of you' part.

We'll need Malcolm next year but we need the roster spot right now.

Yuck. That game was like getting your privates waxed...without the wax.

IT's NOt a big deal guys...This is being blown up for no reason.

FACT: Steelers fans do this to all stadiums... I have a friend thats a steelers fan...and Steel fans travel all over the place...It was more because they are so close to fed ex....My friend tells me every away game he goes to the Steel fan is everywhere....

I live in Florida and I have been to a Jags game and Bucs game. Skins fans dominate the Bucs stadium when we play here. They also had tons at the Jags game.

Another note....Our fans were quiet because we were getting our butts kicked....They were winning so they were yelling and were louder.....Watching the game on tv...The Skins fans were loud as hell in the first Qt...then went silent the rest of the game...The team has to get the crowd going...plain and simple....

Fletcher was mad at his defense. The defense is doing fine. (Outside of the two Rogers mistakes.) It was the offense and special teams that really screwed up. The defense was out on the field far too much and often playing the short field.

Fortunately, we have the imploding cowpukes next after a bye week.

Nate - I do boycott Wilbon. But today was an exception for a better good.

3 guys to "blame" for this loss from what i saw:

1. rogers. yes, rogers you CAN lose a game in the 2nd quarter or first quarter. that pick was reminiscent of the seattle game.

2. zorn. agree with jasno on this one. your best WR is hobbled why not create ways to run the ball. you got cartwright, portis and...or just go max protect and keep the game close.

3. blache. the dude was calling the game for ben when that overhyped, undisciplined, overconfident qb, leftwich was in the game. why blitz against the dude? just sit back and let him make the mistakes. after watching that dude for 10(?) years you know he will make a mistake especially when thrown in the fire like that. by blitzing you're basically giving up so much.

both coaches got away from what brought them to 6-2. blache got away from not blitzing. and zorn got away from that joe gibbs/west coast hybrid offense.

very very strange game. couldn't believe what the coaches were doing.

Jason: Thomas is running the wrong routes? Can we hear more about this? And why are they not throwing to Randle El or Thrash (all year)? This is only the most glaring flaw on the team right now--can we get a little reporting/analysis?

I give anyone permission to use The Imploding Cowpukes as a title, band name, etc.

Posted by: charley42 | November 4, 2008 12:20 PM | Report abuse

deal, I actually had the opposite thought regarding BLeft, I thought they didn't blitz him enough. When he completed the 50 yard pass, he had time. There was another 3rd down play where they only rushed 4-5, and he made the throw.

ARE has 36 catches on the year, typical of ANY second WR in the NFL. Look at the list of WRs, you won't find but one or two "number 2"s above him.

So it's not an "all year" thing.

Without Moss, there is nothing to be afraid of deep from the Skins WR corpes, that's as simple as it gets.

Which is why Thomas, in particular, needs to get it together. If Kelly can get healthy, he will help too, but Thomas is the speed guy, the one who could threaten a defense over the top, and that is what's lacking in a game like this was.

What's the Deal(er)?

Blache?? Blache?

There was NO execution from the Defensive players, save for Fletcher........

Posted by: 4thFloor | November 4, 2008 12:26 PM | Report abuse

Skins are a good team, but we played a very good team. I do think we blitzed too much. We didn't need to blitz in order to get pressure. The coverage was usually good, leaving another person back would have made the throws, especially the deep ones, much tougher.

Some people up here noted last week that the Skins sounded like they were thinking a bit too much about the break. I think those people had a very good point.

I dont ever recall the Steeler fans taking over the Ravens stadium like that.

Dealer,

As usual we are in agreement. I couldn't understand why he continued to blitz leftwich. My feeling was play the run and wait for him to mess it up.

As for the whole Rogers thing well that was ridiculous to me that he thinks a pick 6 while leading wouldn't have had an affect on the game.

Posted by: Gweez | November 4, 2008 12:30 PM | Report abuse

This game was so reminiscent of the first game of the season with the Giants. Defense aside, the O continues to struggle in the red zone. Every game won has been a struggle. If you remove the Moss td's in the Saints and Browns games, we're up the creek w/o the paddle.

A point made on Redskins Postgame, Jason is missing at least one open receiver on the mass blitzes. Consistently he throws to Portis, and no one else. Someone has to be open. I suppose his happy feet come into play, and he throws that high ball--- alot last night(first pick).

This is a good team, but Z has got to look at IR for Kelly and get another receiver. Coolie seems frustrated.

As for Rodgers, he has played well but he gets lazy. Third and 12 - 15 and he allows Byron to zing one in front of him, or playing off the X reseiver who is wide lined 7 yards off the goal line. That td was so school yard. Easy 6 for a even a blind qb from the Sisters of the Poor. The Steelers were throwing at him because they know he's Rodgers.

Fred, got smoked so bad on that deep 50. Only bad one on him. Rocky, don't leave your feet if you can't make that sack. Lefty is a big dude.

JLC, what do u have to say about your boy Jansen? Pass blocking the same as the beginning of the season when he got benched.

Todd Yoder, big dudes don't dive on the ground to block other big dudes. That was pathetic. Where is our USC TE?

London, D-Line(without dancin shoes/calf infection Taylor), and Horton were ballin'.

Read where China Springs may be back for Dallas game. What a waste of Danny's dough.

Too much pub for Jason and Clinton. O Line needed to step up and block on those third and shorts. Don't put this game behind you Skins. Review, review, review. Fix your ear phones, look for the open receiver, and the d will do its share.

1. new burgundy suits ROCK the HOUSE!! Put them on against the Cowpies.

2. You can't run a spread O when your #1 guys is out and your #3 and #4 receivers suck. Those rookies are worse than useless right now. Put one on IR and find someone on the waiver wire who knows how to run a route.

3. Run the ball, run the ball, run the ball. If CP gets winded let Alexander run the ball, run the ball, run the ball. Betts should be back for the Cowpies game. Run the ball!!!!

4. Carlos Rogers should be required to stay two hours after practice with Colt Brennan throwing to him so he can LEARN TO CATCH!!! That was a game-breaker, and I don't care what he says, yes you can win or lose the game at that early stage!!!
