Injury Update

Okay, Coach Joe says it's too early to determine Sunday's status for most of the injured guys.
Brunell says he will practice Wednesday and is good to go for the Cowboys. Campbell split snaps with Collins today and had the bulk of the work last week. But Gibbs says the rotation on Sunday will be the same - Brunell 1, Collins as the backup and Jason as the No. 3.

Portis's ankle is still not 100 percent he said. He did some work on lateral movement but is unsure if he can practice Wednesday. Coach Joe syas there is a 4 day plan to try to get Portis back, but it's not clear yet if he will be able to practice Wednesday.

Moss says his hamstring is still a problem. He's had a history of them, and says that he is averse to pushing early in the week. Reading between the lines from his body language was not too good.

Randle El took limited work with his heel injury. He told me he didn't do much and the heel does not feel right when he runs. He expects to be able to do more Wednesday.

Lemar Marshall missed practice with his ankle problem. He too will have to be watched closely all week and will take it day-by-day as to how much or how little he can do.

The Skins don't have to put people on the official injury report until Wednesday afternoon. Tomorrow is basically off for the players, save for treatment, and some meetings.

JLC, any word on the mood around there? Does everyone seem as dismally depressed as the rest of us? Any excitement? Any sparks?

I hate to think they came back to Redskins Park with the same attitude they left it with last week.

Did you see anything on Al Saunders? Will be be out with a sprained brain by any chance? Did he do a bunch of 3rd and 1 drills? You know -- forcing him to call a run instead of a pass?

Jason
Thanks for the inside info. We appreciate you giving us the inside scoop before tomorrow's paper.

JLC,

Thanks for the updates. Injuries don't appear to be getting any better. Can you imagine having to play Dallas yesterday? Everyone would have been out.

Posted by: Ricky Bobby | October 30, 2006 2:20 PM | Report abuse

But Gibbs says the rotation on Sunday will be the same - Brunell 1, Collins as the backup and Jason as the No. 3.

All the happy happy thoughts are gone now JLC. Someone please just hit me over the head.

JC still stuck at #3 is starting to piss me off. This team needs to see if he has what it takes, even if it just means some mop-up duty.

I don't even want to think about the reaction FedEx will give Brunell if he starts off slow this week. It was bad for the Titans, but it would be 100 times worse for the Cowgirls.

And I don't even want to think about what the offense will look like if both Portis and Moss are out.

Posted by: CMoney | October 30, 2006 2:30 PM | Report abuse

Yeah, you would have hoped that the bye week and/or Romo's performance last night may have turned on that light bulb inside Gibby's head... but I guess not.

Green 40, green 40, dump off to the right. HUT

I hope the fans at FedEx are ready for 70/30 Skins to Boys fans... I know LOTS of people who already sold their tix on ebay. This will only get worse with more and more losses.

Why don't we just go ahead and put ARE ahead of Campbell on the depth chart... what a joke.

Posted by: Ricky Bobby | October 30, 2006 2:34 PM | Report abuse

Hey everyone. I really stink at the sum-up-the-mood stuff. Hard to say.
With all the injuries it's hard to know who will be playing or to what extent.
Coach Joe seemed pretty focused and short at the start of our briefing, then seemed to warm up a bit as it went on. Most of the players seemed refreshed for the bye, but until they get back on the field Sunday no one really knows what good it will have done.

Posted by: Jason La Canfora | October 30, 2006 2:34 PM | Report abuse

The only thing that will spark this team now emotionally is a change. And the biggest change a team can make is at the QB position. A change at QB would create a much need spark. I beleive the receivers and RB's are frustrated with the play of Brunell, as we are, but they are not likely to say it.

Posted by: Max | October 30, 2006 2:37 PM | Report abuse

Here we go again.

I guess it is time for us to realize that as long as Brunell has 1 good game for every 3 he plays, then Gibbs will praise him to no end and reward him with the starting job.
I would like to say I wont watch the game, but I will. Hoping we win the game but also hoping Demarcus Ware pulls a Lavar and puts Brunell out of his misery like Lavar did Aikman. If my hair wasnt cut so short I would have pulled it out by now.

Posted by: gatorskinz2000 | October 30, 2006 2:37 PM | Report abuse

My supervisor sold his tickets. I asked him if he sold them to a Redskins fan or a Cowgirls fan. He said he didn't ask, didn't care. He's exhausted with the moves this team is making, so it didn't matter to him.

I won't be selling my tickets. But, if Brunell performs as he has most of the season, the team might be better off w/ Cowgirls fans in my seats. I'm so disgusted right now I can barely think straight.

Brunell: 132-206, 7 TD's 3 INT's, 90.4 rating.

Campbell: 0-0, 0 TD's 0 INT's, 0.00 rating.

Let's face it, the numbers support Brunell.

Campbells INT's are encouraging though.

Posted by: GhostofAlvinWalton | October 30, 2006 2:41 PM | Report abuse

Where I work, there are already 7 people who are season ticket holders trying to get rid of their tickets. Of course they have been trying to get rid of their tickets since the Tennessee loss.

They all say the same thing," I will still watch the game, but I wont go and pay for parking, drink etc.."

Remember a couple of weeks ago when the raiders were the laughing stock of the NFL?
They have the same record as us, the 49ers, Texans, and the Titans. Look at the company we keep.

I can't believe we gave away so much in the draft two years ago for an "emergency QB". If these coaches are all about "win now," then why on earth did we trade away so much to draft Campbell, who the coaches are indicating is only worthy of a practice squad/emergency QB roll. It's ridiculous when you think about it. Campbell's rookie contract will expire before he ever plays a game!!

Posted by: Max | October 30, 2006 2:43 PM | Report abuse

I hate to say it, but I sold my tickets as well. Also didn't ask, nor did I care, if the guy was a Boys fan. This is the first time in 3 years of having season tickets that I have sold a regular season game, even when we were 5-10 heading into the Minnesota game in '04.

Granted, I am coming home from a wedding in Chicago early next Sunday morning, but I never would have thought (not in a million years) that I would be okay simply watching this game on TV... and I'm not the only one.

I think after this it may be time for Coach Joe to step down. Do he really think we are going to make the playoff with Brunell?

Max like you said to give up so much for practice squad/emergency QB. I am just so upset right now that I can't even put it into words. Sunday will be my last game for this year or until Brunell goes down.

I'll be at the game too, but know of 2 tickets sold without care to allegiances.

I'll tell you one thing, win or lose, if JC were named the starter, the mood at the stadium would have been electric.

But with Brunell languishing in there, the mood will be edgy -- Brunell will have to play a perfect game to keep the fans at bay.

Regardless, it's Dallas Week, so we'll have our tailgate of the year to ease our pain.

Yep, the stadium would totally be electric and I think most skins fans would have held on to their tickets so as not to miss the debut of Campbell!! Unfortunately, all we are playing for is pride, what's left of it anyway, and we won't be seeing Campbells debut unless Brunell and Collins get knocked out of the game. Brunell really sucks the life out of the team and the fan base. It's unbelievable!!

I don't know... if MB goes out there and completes 22 of 22 the way he did against Houston... and we miraculously find a way to win... my thoughts won't change one bit.

He needs to prove that he can still read a defense and go down the field.

Well, sounds like this weekend the hometown "booing" of Brunell will be drowned out by the number of cheering dallas fans expected at the stadium. This is not how I envisioned the circumstances of this redskins v. dallas game when I circled it on my schedule pre-season... so sad....

Sheesh. I think I'll just go play golf or something on Sunday. If I'm going to be throwing things, it might as well be outdoors with something cheaper than furniture, over situations I have full control of, rather than having to watch this galumphing trainwreck. Call me a fair-weather fan, but I'd like to watch games with the hope that there's a glimmer of positive change in the horizon....

Frankly, I'm just wondering what the backroom dynamic is between the coaches, right now. I'm also wondering about the players, too. Someone's bound to have a Shockey "shrayen 'n cryin'" media furor, if this keeps up.

Posted by: FlimFlam | October 30, 2006 3:01 PM | Report abuse

Ricky Bobby,

Completion percentages are totally deceiving. a QB could conceivably go 22 of 22 for a total of -10 yards. I'd rather Brunell break the all-time record for total passing yards in a game. How many games in the last two years has Brunell thrown for over 300 yards I wonder?

Posted by: Max | October 30, 2006 3:01 PM | Report abuse

Last year, Brunell had two games over 300 yards (322 at Denver and 331 against KC). He had 291 at Dallas, which is almost 300. :)

Posted by: Jason's editor | October 30, 2006 3:09 PM | Report abuse

Does anybody know the last time a QB was taken in the 1st round only to be kept on the roster as a practice squad/emergency QB?

Posted by: Max | October 30, 2006 3:11 PM | Report abuse

I know he threw for over 300 against Jax this year, and also at the beginning of last year against KC and Denver, but that may be it...

Last year he just looked more comfortable back there. Why again did we change the offense on a win now team with a win now QB?

Posted by: Max | October 30, 2006 3:12 PM | Report abuse

I'm not sure that has ever happened before to a 1st round selected QB.

Someone like CP or Moss have to step up and tell Gibbs that Brunell must go.

Posted by: jm220 | October 30, 2006 3:14 PM | Report abuse

Can't wait to hear Ray Brown's title.

Probably something along the lines of Associate Line Assistant Coach that includes tackles and guards - Offense.

Posted by: Ricky Bobby | October 30, 2006 3:16 PM | Report abuse

I wonder how much money Snyder is spending on this 30 man roster of coaches??

Posted by: Max | October 30, 2006 3:28 PM | Report abuse

CP and Moss are not going to step up and say Brunell must go. They support him all the way.

Posted by: Lisa | October 30, 2006 3:30 PM | Report abuse

Sorry to pull a Boofer but WHY GIVE JC THE WORK LAST WEEK ONLY TO MAKE HIM #3? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? - for the record I am actually having a full blown tantrum on the floor kicking and screaming.

If you think about it even if Moss and ARE are out don't we have Lloyd and Patten our magnificent receivers we traded the ranch away to get? Surely they can handle the screen pass and the three yarder dump?

Hey if we keep adding coaches pretty soon we can field a whole team of them. Wouldn't we all watch? Al Saunders can play QB, Buges can be O line with Ray Brown. Isn't D. Green there too (actually he probably would play better than our current CBs)

Still it is Dallas week and my hand reaches for the Kool-Aid.

Posted by: sfskin | October 30, 2006 3:37 PM | Report abuse

I know most of you probably don't want to hear this, but I'm just throwing it out there to get your feelings on it. As well as Betts is playing, and with TJ Duckett on the Roster now, is there any chance the Redskins shop Portis in the off-season to try and fill the gaping holes on the Defense?

Posted by: Max | October 30, 2006 3:44 PM | Report abuse

Unfortunately, there is no choice but to fire Gibbs at this point. He has already wasted 2 out of 3 seasons on his irrational, indefensible devotion to Brunell. That alone would be bad enough to get any other coach fired.

But what's even worse is that he is now actively sabotaging the 2007 season, and possibly beyond. This can not be allowed to happen. Every game Campbell doesn't play at this point puts us farther behind in either evaluating or developing his talent.

If we start playing him NOW, there is a chance he will be ready to lead a winning team next year. But he might stink, and we might need to acquire a new QB in the offseason. We need these 9 games to get a good enough idea either way.

Firing Joe Gibbs is not something I take lightly. But it must be realized at this point that he is not a deity, he is not infallible. His past acheivements have no bearing on the current situation. He is not above the team. In fact, he is holding it back and if he is allowed to continue, will plunge them into another season or two of futility. These are the only rational conclusions to be drawn from what is going on. Everything I'm saying IS happening and WILL happen.

Either Gregg Williams or Al Saunders should be appointed head coach and as much continuity as possible should be retained for next year. Gibbs has done a marvelous job of building this team back up to a point where it should be not only respectable, but extremely competitive, and for that he should be lauded. But it's time for him to get out of the way before he destroys all the work he's done.

Posted by: Ron Burgundy and Gold | October 30, 2006 3:57 PM | Report abuse

Max,

I appreciate the original thought. But he's one of the few guys who's actually earning all the money we are throwing at him. Also, again his bonus money would escalate and kill our cap.

Posted by: Skinz | October 30, 2006 3:58 PM | Report abuse

I think Gibbs is hiding the fact that Campbell will start on Sunday. Any sane coach would make this move. He is just trying to throw the Cowboys off by saying Brunell will play. BTW, this is just wishful thinking.

Posted by: Stro | October 30, 2006 3:59 PM | Report abuse

I wouldnt be suprised if CP gets shopped. Also if the losing continues we all might be talking about Adrian Peterson come draft day. Oh wait I don't think we have a pick in the first round this year.

Posted by: Nick from Boston | October 30, 2006 4:00 PM | Report abuse

Max, I see the gears turning on that one, but I don't think Gibbs and staff would do that, nor do I think they would ever regain the team if they did. Portis is a locker room leader from everything that I've read.

You don't get rid of a guy like that and maintain the respect of those left behind.

jason, the masses want to know what big ray's title is. please please please!

what's the over under on the number of total words in the title? i say 6.

associate consultant to associate head coach of the offense?

Posted by: dealer | October 30, 2006 4:03 PM | Report abuse

Ron Burgundy and Gold, I appreciate the thought, but that's ludicrous. If failure to notice talent and put it on the field, then why would gDubs' job be safe.

You can't just blame everything on Gibbs right now. You need to ride this year out and see what happens. I think there is a lot of blame to go around, but firing Gibbs would solve nothing except throw this team into even more disarray.

Plus, that man has done too much for this franchise to disrespect him by firing him in the middle of the season. And I'm not even a dilusional "GIBBS IS GOD" fan.

Posted by: Bucktown Skins Fan | October 30, 2006 4:07 PM | Report abuse

Yikes, Max.... I think we need to make it BLaw that noone posts for 15 minutes after sipping right from the Koolaid pitcher! Yikes!

Alright, all joking aside - it wouldn't be a wise move. You might be able to shop Portis out for a fair trade, but several problems remain.

(1) The cap - he does make a fair penny, and I don't think he's as backloaded as some of the other players on our team.

(2) Effectiveness - Portis is one of the few players which we can say doesn't suffer from a case of The Stupids, The Suckus, or The Bingus. He's tried his darndest to do something. And as sturdy as a runner as Betts is, he still doesn't run as well as Portis.

(3) Trading, in general - Do you really want us to trade for 'talent', seeing how well we've managed in free agency? Seeing how we've wasted picks and cap room, recently, are we willing to screw up another trade to get more dead weight? Until our scouting evolves above Vinnie turning on Madden 07 on his X360, going through the free agent pool, and making a pick off of Madden ratings and simmed games, I'd say keep picks and trades away from the management!

Posted by: FlimFlam | October 30, 2006 4:07 PM | Report abuse

I agree... no way we should shop CP.

However, with regard to your last comment about the coaching staff keeping respect by NOT letting character and locker room guys ("core Redskins" as Gibby calls them) walk away...

Please see Antonio Pierce and Ryan Clark.

Could this have already happened? I think yes... especially with all of the anonymous quotes in JLC's article over the weekend.

Selling tickets on eBay? Hope that you do not end up like me...season tickets in my family since 1963...father bought them the day I was born...I doubt that we missed more than 10 games at RFK. Fast forward to 2005...long-term assignment in Sydney from August to February, so I decided to sell my tickets (Section 126, 4 seats) for FACE VALUE. Received a nice letter from Redskins in October telling me that I was in violation of their resale policy and wishing me a nice life. No warning, just gone and it was not like I was so stupid as to post my real name or show the complete tickets.

I hate to admit this, but I really enjoy watching the games with NFL Sunday Ticket on my 53" plasma TV in 7.1 surround sound with a kegerator full of Old Dominion by my side. I have theater seating for 12, so disgruntled fans from FedEx are welcome to join me.

Wow, this whole thing is so depressing. I almost gave up on the 'Skins after the Ol' Ball Coach's second season, and then St. Joe came back.

Now? My faith is being tested here. You would think Campbell would at least be #2 on the roster. It is unfathomable that he continues to ride the pine. This season is over, the Giants are running away with the division. It's time to see what The Kid can do. Unlike lots of folks here, I have nothing against Mark. I just think the 'Skins need to find out of Campbell can play or not.

If I were a conspiracy nut, I would think that St. Joe has already seen enough out of Campbell in practice and has concluded that he will never be an NFL quarterback.

Oh, and Jason, great article this weekend. I found the Ryan Clark theory a little bit too simplistic, however.

Regardless, I still contend that the decision making at the top of the organization leaves a lot to be desired. They need a Beathard or Wolf-caliber GM. As much as we all want to see "Mr." Snyder pluck the next Bobby Beathard and St. Joe out of obscurity from the dredges of someone else's staff, we all know that "Mr." Snyder's autocratic style would only defer authority to someone with oodles of pre-existing credibility.

This is so sad. I don't even want to watch the game this weekend.

Man, this work stuff sure gets in the way!

"Does anybody know the last time a QB was taken in the 1st round only to be kept on the roster as a practice squad/emergency QB?"

Aaron Rodgers is the closest name that comes to mind, but he has at least played in a regular season game....

There are some unknowns that I'm not sure about:

Chuck Long, QB Iowa taken #12 overall 1986

Then there were Dan McGwire and Todd Marinovich, but I'm almost positive they both played at one point during the regular season.

I don't see them trading CP. The cap hit would kill them. Besides CP and Santana are the only stars they've got on offense so far, so they need to keep them. It looks like they've made their bed for next year. Sign a few FA's, (QUALITY FA's) and try and hit with that top 10 pick they're on pace to get. And whatever they do they need to RESIST THE URGE TO CONTINUE TO TRADE AWAY FUTURE DRAFT CHOICES.

In fact, didn't the team even admit that they were going to be pulling back the reins on individual ticket holders selling on ebay once they partnered up with stubhub? Said that they were only really focused on large accounts, like the WP had? JLC, any insight on this? Regardless, it's a chicken crap way to conduct business especially when the team has an agreement themselves with a ticket broker. Unreal.

Well, regardless if we look into any trades, there is no doubt in my mind that the Denver front office has Danny and Vinny on speed dial. In fact, they probably have a special red phone, like the "Bat phone", that blinks and makes noise everytime the Skins call. Lords knows they don't want to miss that call.

"What's that Vinny? Another 2nd??? BRILLIANT!!!!!!"

Joe Gibbs just doesn't get it. He is killing this once proud franchise. We do not have a real GM, we refuse to play drafted players for which we give up numerous future draft picks, overpay other teams problem players, refuse to pay home grown players so they can outplay the replacements that cost this organization millions. I sold my tickets for this weeks game, and will continue to do so until a change at QB is made, because I can not stand the thought of payimg $109.00 per to watch MB play and hope that someone brakes his leg so that we can see the much needed change at QB. Danny should start to offer refunds to fans for the BS product this organization has put on the field. We are now the laughing stock of the league and the poster child of HOW NOT TO RUN AN ORGANIZATION. I can not believe that I would ever think that Joe Gibbs should step down, but he continues to stick with this way of doing business. Hey Joe, did you see Romo play last night? Joe, in case you didn't notice, the natives are restless... and pissed.

(only because talking about the 'Skins depresses me these days...)

SI.com claims Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are among the NFL's most over-rated players.

I hereby proclaim SI.com the official Web site of the cube of poop because its content is nothing but crap.

Anyone who saw the Colts/Broncos yesterday would absolutely have to say that Peyton Manning is simply put one of the all-time greatest NFL quarterbacks. To go into Denver and win, to orchestrate every drive but a kneel down at the end of the half into a scoring drive, to constantly make the big-time throw when he had to, and to run the calmest 2-minute drill in the League so far this year...that was one of the best QB performances of all-time.

Yeesh. What are they smoking over there?

Posted by: P Diddy | October 30, 2006 5:06 PM | Report abuse

diddy! c'mon dude! did you forget brady's performance against the rams in the SUPER BOWL!

brady has crap for receivers. whereas mr. archie's son has(and always had) a sure hall of famer in harrison and a dang good #2 with what's his face...

i don't like mr. brady's political affiliation but i'll take him over manning any given sunday.

and if si said what you claim they said. that's just idiotic.

Posted by: dealer | October 30, 2006 5:12 PM | Report abuse

I adore Tom Brady. Adore him. And I wouldn't want to live on the difference between he and Manning.

Quite honestly, the "who's better?" argument is probably best put off until I'm 50-something and can tell the kids how I got to see both of them play in all of their Super Bowls.

Needless to say, I probably won't even remember the dude(s) who played QB for the 'Skins in 2004, 2005, or 2006.

Posted by: P Diddy | October 30, 2006 5:20 PM | Report abuse

if my wish comes true it'll be just "in all of HIS super bowls" and how manning will be compared only to marino.

colts aren't going anywhere this year. patsies are way too good. they had their chance last year. but bellichoke's not gonna let that happen this year.

after this season the HC(dungy) will get fired for the colts. and we'll see what happens then. if the new HC will tell the OC/qb who the boss is. and if he's still going to pander to the oc/qb then no way mr. genius wins or even gets to smell a superbowl.

sorry. but i hate the mannings!

I'm with you, Dealer and Diddy, on Peyton and Brady. I think the SI guy (Perloff) is just stirring for the sake of stirring.
While Peyton still has to get a ring to win me over completely (the whining to the league gets soooo old; hear me, Coach Joe?), Brady has come through when it has mattered most. Time and again. How can he possibly be overrated??? Isn't winning what counts? It's entirely conceivable that a winner may not have the most glorious stats. Give me the bling any day.

If Portis gets 'shopped,' it would not be because the Skins shopped him, but because Portis wanted to shop, for example, because he cannot trust Al Saunders (or vice versa or both).

St. Joe implied 'big changes' after the Colts game ... maybe ther entry of Ray Brown is a prelude to the exit of Joe Bugel. Saunders at least wouldn't have to compete with Brown (as he does with Bugel) for St. Joe's blessings.

Governor, good call on the change of subject. We needed an audible at the line of scrimmage. I'm saying Patriots (or maybe Broncos) v. Bears. This is just not the year to break the BBM's playoff jinx.

Posted by: dcsween | October 30, 2006 5:45 PM | Report abuse

One of the NFL adages about the playoffs is that 6 teams return and 6 teams get replaced. I say the returners are:
AFC: Patriots, Bengals, Colts, Broncos
NFC: Giants, Bears

New teams:
AFC: Ravens, Chargers
NFC: Eagles, Falcons, Saints, Rams

Posted by: dcsween | October 30, 2006 5:52 PM | Report abuse

Colts/Giants is tempting but after the Arizona game I think it's gotta be the Bears' year. Colts/Bears w/BBM getting his ring.

Thanks for the sympathetic words. I would probably be more upset if going to FedEx meant 10% of what I felt at RFK. I rarely saw the same fans two games in a row over the past 5-6 years and it never ceased to amaze me how many Eagles and Cowboys shirts were in my section on a given Sunday.

The Stubhub deal just shows what a hypocritical POS Dan Synder really is. I am pretty sure that if my seats were in Section 407 no one would have cared, but these were primo seats that can still get $150 per game.

On those rare occasions when I miss the FedEx "experience", I shoot off some fireworks in my basement, ask my daughter to yell something into a bullhorn for a minute or two and then give her $10 for a bag of peanuts.

Hey Ghost of Alvin Walton,
See if you can scare up the ghosts of Barry Wilburn and Danny Copeland and them we might have a doggone secondary!

No NFC East QB stat update this week. I'm gonna wait until next week and that way we can compare Manning, McNabb and Brunell at the midway point. Assuming Brunell starts. Which he will.

Jason Campbell as the 3rd stringer is unacceptable.

As of November 5th, Brunell and Todd Collins will have combined for 71 years of life experience.

Incidentally on that date, Mark Brunell and Todd Collins will be the same age as the board game Monopoly.

But I agree, the only face that comes back game in and game out is the guy that sits next to me, he's got the earphones and e-thing, love those guys.

I almost had to kill an Eagles fan last year. Then someone BEAMED him in the face with 16 oz's of MLD. One of the most amazing things I've ever seen. If Randy Johnson hurled liquid...well, you get the idea.

A good gym work out does wonders. Thanks for the change of subject.

1. BBM will not make it. Once again he will put up great numbers in the regular season and fold in the playoff like every year.
2. Yes they will fire the HC without looking at two good coaches been there and they haven't won. But not take a look at BBM been their the whole time. So, maybe it's not the coach
3. I am going with the Bears. D is just beast and if O plays average they will win out.
4.Not sure I would bet against the Pats in the playoff

Lester - That just sucks. Snyder can't expect to treat the fans like that, along with the constant garbage they're putting on the field year in and out (last 6 games of last year an exception) and expect Fedex to remain filled forever.

I'm totally with you on RFK vs the "Fedex experience." It was also nice to take the metro to/from games instead of paying $20+ to park.

Oh that one is funny.

Lisa sweetie the Colts can't stop anyone. Hit BBM early and keep hitting him and he is like a wet paper bag. Look at all the playoff games he has lost.

Posted by: jm220 | October 30, 2006 6:33 PM | Report abuse

Don't kid yourself Lisa. The Eagles are nanger. Their reserve d-line would have two pro-bowlers on it. The two corners are pro-bowl material. The TE is a BAMF. The O-Line crushes people. When I looked at the schedule this year, I told ArtMonktotheSticks, there is only one game in there I guarantee 100% we will lose...Philly in Philly. They are going to punch us in the face-piece and take my mother out for a nice seafood dinner and never call her again. I hate the Eagles.

On New England, I don't want to open up a whole can of worms but this goes weirdly into my "Belichik is Average" argument. My argument is that Tom Brady is so good, that you can put anything out there and he'll rep it to the death. I still have no idea why people call Peyton Skank the best QB in the league. I don't get it. Give Peyton Skank Troy Brown, David Givens and Antowain Smith and put him outdoors instead of the Track in Indy and you would get 7-9s like they were going out of style. That is why when I rank the 5 greatest players of all time, I always include Brady, and sometimes, depending on what coffee I'm at, I put him at #3, behind the hands down greatest player of all time no arguments ever Joe Montana and Sweetness. I think Brady is so much better than Peyton Skank it's sickening that people even compare them. New England is on a mission this year. By the playoffs, the Pats will have homefield throughout, Ben Watson will be making a pro bowl bid, the defense is going to stuff everybody and Maroney and Dillon are going to be punching mouths. Watch Brady tonight make Minnesota look like idiots because they are. By the way, is there a guy we hate more than Brad Childress? What a chuch. He looks like a hotel bartender. I bet you even his mother thinks he's ugly.

One point between Peyton Skank and Tom Brizzle...you remember last year when they got beat up like an NCS party in the playoffs by Pittsburgh and he made the comment about the protection issues? Brady NEVER would have done that ever and that's why those dudes go to war for him. Peyton Scamming wasn't talking about all of those "protection issues" when those lineman would keep the blitz off him to give him time to find a hot route. Nonsense. So sick of the shabingus. His dad made a deal with the devil...I'm telling you. If any of you on the blog think you're going to hell, I guarantee you you won't be lonely because Archie Scamming will be there too, because he made a deal. "Okay, Archie, I'll tell you what, I'll give you Peyton and Eli will go to New York and become an overhyped media darling and you'll make millions, and I'll awkwardly make you an NFL Wise Man who is always in a luxury box at a key game...in return, you have to hang out here with me...hhmmm..forever." Archie Scamming: "DEAL!"

I was a lion for halloween and I rep'd it to the death in G'town. We were doing Chinese Firedrills all over Adams Morgan and Glover Park.

If I wasn't from DC, I would only want to be from two other places: Compton or Long Beach.

what.

BBM won't screw up homefield 2 years in a row. Last year was an exception due to the Dungy tragedy. If they fail this year it'll be because of their D not BBM. My two cents anyway.

Posted by: skinswest | October 30, 2006 6:39 PM | Report abuse

good change of conversation. with practices back on and the bye over, it's time to focus on beating the cowgals, and feeling proud to be a fan again, even if this isn't the year we wanted it to be.

as for the superbowl, well, hell, Dennis Green was right. The Bears are what we think they are. Crown 'em. At least crown 'em in the NFC. Patriots going for the AFC. Broncos look tough, but i'll pass on them (and they won't pass at all well after December). Big Brother Manning and the Holding Company (his O-line) will fizzle...

even tiny ditka spotting the patriots two hundred touchdowns won't factor in as it's the field goal missed by gostowski (was he a hockey player? sounds like one...) that wins the game for da Bears

Ok,Ok...I will delete the Colts from my Super Bowl pick.....let's change it to Bears vs either San Diego or New England (I will know more about NE after tonight and be able to judge San Diego more during the 4 games that Merriman is out...suspended).

Would like to add my 2 cents about Eli Manning...I can't stand him. Due to the way he acted before and after the draft, I can't see him as anything other than a spoiled brat. While other players feel fortunate to be drafted, he whined that he would sit out the season rather than go to San Diego. I'll never forget Philip Rivers being interviewed - he said he was willing to go anywhere and do whatever it takes. I'm so happy Rivers is having a good season and I would like to see San Diego go to the Super Bowl and hope that Eli will be sitting on his butt at home watching it....of course, he will still be whining. If the Giants make it to the Super Bowl, it will be too much to bear.

Dealer,

I am so NOT in love with Brunell...as I've said before he is not my type...Shawn Springs definitely more my type!!!

I realize that I am one of the few people on this site (maybe on earth) who does not crucify Brunell BUT all I'm saying is that he is not the sole reason we are losing. Hey, back in 04 when Brunell was playing horribly, I was DYING for Gibbs to bench him and put my man Ramsey in....to no avail. Brunell is playing better now than he was then.

I'm sure this will just set everyone off again but Gibbs was being interviewed by George Michael and Sonny tonight on the NBC. Sonny asked Gibbs what it would take for Jason to be able to play...how much more work does he need? Gibbs replied that Jason is "ready now" but that he does not feel like a QB change is the solution. Said if he thought that, he would gladly do so.

NFC: Bears. How can you bet against that defense? Incidentally, the same ridiculous SI article also said Urlacher was overrated. Ha! I think 31 teams would love to have Urlacher, same for Manning. My dark horse pick would be the Vikings. Yes, the Vikings.

AFC: a little bit tougher. I love the Colts and unlike some of you, I love Manning, too. But they can't stop the run, and playoff football comes down to "can you run?" and "can you stop the run?" I'm going with Denver even though I think Plummer does more to give away games than Brunell ever has.
