Is Roster Move in the Works?

From Jason Reid

Linebacker Albert Fincher just left the building with a large bag, as if he'd cleaned out his locker. Could a roster move be forthcoming?

Maybe they are making room for a full time holder. That would make as much sense as not drafting quality O and D linemen.

Damb. I like Fincher. This is one of those situations were it would be good if WaPo could make some inquiries of the EVP of Football Operations, i.e., feels like Elfin at the Times (if not Schefter, Glazer, Clayton, etc.) is going to have the 411 pretty soon.

Anyone calling for this man to be fired is a total and utter d0chebag! This man has a family and mouths to feed! Wishing or hoping that a man loses his job is just wrong. Remember assclowns, whatever negative energy you put out there always comes back to you. Sometimes seven fold.

Any predictions on scores or stats (projected like ESPN does) for the game at Dallas Sunday?

Posted by: Red of the DMV | September 23, 2008 1:05 PM | Report abuse

I hope its not a straight out cut, but instead a trade for punt returner ... unless they cut him so they could elevate Byron Westbrook to return punts. I've been hoping they've been practicing up Westbrook for the past couple/few weeks. He had some nice returns in the preseason (even though he had that un-nice fumble too).

Good call stump....

This is from the Times:

If four years at Redskin Park teaches you anything it's that this combination of things usually means a roster move

Back-up player walks out of facility.

Back-up player has garbage bag full of shoes.

Front office guy walks with him outside.

That just happened a few minutes ago. (I'm choosing not to identify the player until it's official).

If Fincher's cut, that leaves only 5 active LBs, right? Seems like a very thin position already.

Posted by: Greg | September 23, 2008 1:12 PM | Report abuse

But Fincher seemed to be playing well during the preseason. Hard to believe they would just switch him out with another LB. That leads me to believe that (even though they might be thin at LB) they are bringing in another position--DE? Teams?

Cork,

How did you figure it out, Danny pays us to come on here and defend the Skins, it has nothing to do with the fact that we our fans, and do not like to see people like JLC and you put the team down every second of the day.

How much is JLC paying you or is he doing something else for you in between post's.

Posted by: Flounder | September 23, 2008 12:52 PM+++

Flounder I admire your passion and support of the team we BOTH root for. Dunno about you, but I've been a Redskin fan since back when you were just a a string of Roe in the Ocean. I actually remember days of BRILLIANT GMs and SUPERBOWL wins...and good drafts and GREAT trades.

I spent many a wondeful Sunday at RFK with my Father. They are among my greatest memories. I've been away from DC for more than two decades and remain as dedicated Redskin fan as I ever was.

I'm also as big a Patriot as I ever was.

But flounder, this country was founded on dissent, dissent protected by the constitution and especially the first Amendment.

If Snyder and Cerrato were just merely bad management, that would be one thing. But unfortunately, rather than try to improve the team, they have chosen to be ever more secretive and attack those who criticize them.

Example: You ever LOOK at Jason reed videos?

Why do you think they look so bad. Because Snyder wont' let him set up in a ministudio at Redskins Park.

Now Cerrato, who should be above the fray and show some class, uses HIS bully pulpit to get down in the mud and sling it out with a reporter.

If you wish to be naive and mislead, fine--that's your perogative. But not all of us are that gullible. It's possible that with time and experience, you'll gain wisdom. (It's even possible that snyder/cerrato will).

One last thing. If you think Jasno is PAYING me, boy, you understand the Media even less than I thought possible.

Reed Doughty should be benched and not cut. Doughty is a good secondary option and could spell Horton on some plays and situations. It's just something about Chris Horton, dude has star potential.

Doughty would not lose income or his livelihood if he were benched. Benching Doughty is the equivalent to re-assigning La Canfora.

ITA...

Posted by: Greg | September 23, 2008 1:14 PM | Report abuse

Good luck to you all here on the Blog. I will no longer be reading anything that has Jason's name on it. I heard yesterday on a Redskins show on Caomcast that a post writer identified as "The Wizard" called the league to report Vinny Cerrato about comments he made on his radio show about another teams coach. Apparently he was told it was not a violation, but the fact that he tried to get the team in trouble is despicable. It is well documented his well deserved troubles with the front office of the team, but to stoop this low is unbelievable even for him.

The Post chose the address the situation by defending "The Wizard" in this blog space. Since the Post can not do the right thing and at least reprimand their employee, I have no choice but to protest in the only way that I can, and that is to stop supporting this reporter and probably the paper itself. Why they would put themselves in this position by having a guy who obviously has an axe to grind with the team cover the Redskins is a mystery in and of itself, but this is the last straw for me.

To all the people I have had friendly debate with on here, thank you and good luck. Hail to the Redskins, and to hell with Jason LaCanfora.

Your mistake, Anonymous, is in thinking that Danny, Vinny, and Larry are Redskins. They're just hemorrhoid-seeking leeches that will fall off when they get too fat. Redskin fans anxiously await that day.

I wouldn't guess they would be bringing in another LB. It seems like they've been playing nickel and dime more often than a straight 4-3, so maybe they don't need the depth at LB as much. Maybe Fincher was already on the chopping block before Khary Campbell got his blood bruise.

Still, I'm rubbing my lucky penny for a replacement at punt returner. Say what you (or I) will about the east-west return style of Randel El, he's just too important to the receiving game to expose him to special teams (read depth guys that are psyched to play) tackling.

JLC Memo #364

First of all, congrats and thanks to all of you for the posts on RI. As I've said before, and as Mr. Rove briefed at the meeting, these things take time, so don't be discouraged.

Apparently, one of JLC's clones has outed our tactic of made up screen names instead of all posting under "Anonymous." So, some of you go back to "Anon."

We have reason to believe JLC may have an inside spy or Mole here. Accordngly, we will be interviewing each of you today in the Waterboarding Suite on the second floor.

Remember, a Free Press is a Dangerous Press.

Remember, the Big Lie takes time to take hold.

So keep plugging away until we bring this so-called Free Press Movement to its knees.

So, lots of emphasis on the fact those who back a Free Press are either actually JLC or his gay lover.

Also, a $500 reward to anypne who discovers the mole at Redskin Park.

Free donuts and Koolaid in my office during my radio show.

The 'Skins decided to release Fincher so they can sign La Canfora.

Vinny and Danny figure the best way to keep Jason from writing negative things about the team is to hire him themselves. If Jason is out on the field taking snaps he won't have time to write honest stories about the club.

There you have it.

So much fun reading the meta-commentary up here the past couple days. It's really helped me to develop a clearer and more profound understanding of the redskins, and really, football in general.

I don't really understand why people are so upset about JLC. I don't find his reporting biased. I mean, the skins have made some seriously dumb moves over the years. Why is it wrong to criticize those moves and the guys who make them?

The fact of the matter is, Snyder asked for it, this kind of up-close reporting. There are very few NFL owners that place themselves so prominently in the center of football operations. Most owners tend to stay out of player acquisition and stuff like that.

Anyways, haters, what's the point? We don't sh!t in your house. Why are you sh!tting in ours? Do you really think your lame postings will get JLC fired or re-assigned? I sincerely doubt it.

I am glad you can figure out my age from reading a blog, and it is good to know you are so old by reading your post I figured you were around 20-25.

Why do you insist on bringing up crazy stuff about how this country was founded and all that blah blah crap.

JLC did what he did Vinny reacted the way he did and I will leave it at that, but do not try to tell me that him having no access to people at the park does not effect the way he does his job.

Why do you think they look so bad. Because Snyder wont' let him set up in a ministudio at Redskins Park.

Jason La Corkczar, you are ridiculous! If the post wants to do a video, then they can do a much better job than this. It's not up to the Redskins to help them do their job. Stop being such a a$$ sucker.

I don't understand what all the arguing about who supports JLC and who supports the team.

JLC and the fron office of the team do not get along. JLC is less than objective about the team because of it, and that is his right. He can write anything he likes, as long as it is not an out and out lie, and get away with it. There are enough Redskin haters in this town to support him. It is hard to believe through all that, that he woulg be so dishonorable as to try to punish the team and its fans, and thus his readers, this way. I do believe he has done exactly as he has been accused.

As any one thousands of writers would give body parts to become a lead writer for the Redskins, I can only come to one conclusion as to why the Post insists on leaving JLC in the position. That is because they want the situation to be as it is, as if they win something by having their reporter be snide, petty, and now back stabbing. I guess thewy feel they have a point to make. I for one have chosen sides and side with the Washington Redskins. I put up with the crap up until now so I could interract with all of you, but no more. The Post simply has chosen to fight rather than simply assign a different reporter to the team. The redskins are a business as is the Post. The Redskins do not need the post, and I guess the Post does not need Redskins fans as customers. I have cancelled my home delivery subscription and will now also stop visiting their website.

The paper in general was always too liberal for me, but the sports pages for many years seemed above all that. They reported the facts and didn't editorialize so much. The reporting was pure. Now that is gone too. Not just this incident, this is only the last straw.

I would give one word of advice. One person wrote if you send enough letters to the editor it will make a difference. You could not be more wrong. The Post does not care about your views. If you write to them, it is becuae you are reading their paper or site, and they are happy. You know the old saying, "the only bad press is no press at all". You will get much more action, if you simply stop visiting this site. they track all the stats and visits mean no ads, no ads means no money, and no money means a change is made. Even the petty Post has to pay the bills.

Hello Alex and Hello Flounder,

Someone else is posting as me sending you guys on a wild goose chase, sorry.

He / she obviously could not stand to see the inconsistency to which I was pointing out on the blog regarding "tolerance".

The posts at 11:45 and 11:53 were by an impostor.

And yes, Flounder and Alex you are both correct. All crimes are not treated equally. It is dependent upon the severity of how one has broken the law.

As humanity, we have within us the ability to reason that though speeding and murder are both morally wrong, they should not be judged with the same severity of punishment.

The impostor reveals he has no weight in his "tolerance" rhetoric, so he resorts to posing as me to hide behind his empty position.... sorry he sent you on a wild goose chase.

Here is a question, how come he called me a phony, yet it is he himself who performs dishonest acts on the blog?

So he is the actual phony, the actual hypocrite. Because a hypocrite applies one standard to others, and does not apply that same standard to himself.

Anyone that claims they're redskin fans that support Snyder and Cerrato are'nt because they dont do what best for the team. they make f'd up moves that continue to set the team back. Cerrato = McMillan = death to a team an organization. Anyone who does'nt support Jason La Canfora eat a di*k he's critical just like he's supposed to be and unbias. With all of the drastic and hasty moves these clowns (Cerrato and Snyder) have made im surprised we have still sustained and been a decent team no thanks to them. Also, your assumption that anyone who doesn't like what JLC did is gullible is.....well, dumb. Idiots like you have framed this debate as one between good and evil; as though JLC is the champion of all that is wise and just and DS/VC are Satan's minions. I'll defend them, at last over the last 5 years. Bringing Gibbs back was a brilliant move. It may not have led to a Super Bowl, but it brought continuity and respectability back to the franchise. Additionally, I think the decision this past offseason to focus on the draft shows they're moving in the right direction.

Aside from that - and the fact that in his early years, Snyder was a knucklehead on many fronts re the team/decisions, the guy is a decent man, and wants to win. The way he handled the Sean Taylor situation was first rate, and offering to help out by hosting Mike McGuire also shows class.

Of course we can and should criticize the front office when they make moves we disagree with, but that doesn't mean taking it to the other extreme either, as the beat reporter has, with what can only be described as an obvious case of I-Have-An-Ax-To-Grind.

Someone yesterday put it perfectly: At some point, JLC, Reid, Cindy, et al, will all move on to other jobs, but we will still be Redskins fans. And this board will still be here.

That being the case, I don't know why anyone would want to stick their neck out to defend La Canfora on THIS issue. He clearly was looking to sting Vinny and/or the team.

He needs to take responsibility for it and move on.

As a journalist myself, I must say that neither JLC or Vinny were in the wrong here.

The league ruled that Vinny wasn't tampering by openly discussing Lane Kiffin and JLC was being diligent by checking with the league.

I think JLC does have a distain for the front office and I know first hand that sometimes writers get a big ego and when a source won't talk to them, they try to make that source look bad.

Personally, I think JLC is a little biased against Vinny and Dan, but I think his call to the league was totally professional.

I also think that Vinny should man up and talk to the Jasons.

so tired of the fire Jla bs, IT IS A REPORTER'S JOB TO STIR THE POT AND CREATE ISSUES WHENEVER POSSIBLE! You don't think any other reporter in the country wouldn't do the same thing if he thought there was a rules violation happening. Maybe he should have known the rule better, maybe not, he called for clarification, got it and printed nothing! This issue was made by petty Vinny. Sure, Jla is probably annoyed at Vinny from Vinny's years of lying about moves (Taylor trade for example) and would probably enjoy nothing more than to catch Vinny in a slip up. And sure Vinny and Danny hate the Waspo cause its one of the last few media outlets they don't control in this town and that has the nerve to criticize them when they so richly deserve it. So everybody just back off and get this story for what it is, a reporter maybe got a little overzealous but was just trying to do his job, and a petty GM who shouldn't be worried about what phone calls a beat reporter is making decided to show his butt and go on the air and call out the reporter. If you ask me, all this has shown is once again how petty (plasma tv to Coles) and dumb this front office is.

Your post is anonymous.

Bringing Coach Gibbs back appeared at the time to be a brilliant accomplishment. It was certainly a pr coup. But in strictly coaching terms it fell flat. Gibbs never found a way to utilize the talent on offense.

The team focused on the draft this year only after Snyder's push to use two number one draft picks to get Chad Johnson failed. Snyder's still trying to inflict his football "knowledge" on the team.

The few instances of Snyder being decent are grossly outweighed by by his obsession with squeezing every possible last dime out of fan's interest in the team; from $45 parking to obstructed seats, the list of indignities goes on and on. A degree of greed is to be expected in business, but for someone who claims to be a fan to bilk other fans to this extent is simply disgusting.

But what I find most telling as far as his personality is his treatment of employees; the two faces of Danny, where the Honeymoon eventually gives way to the Death March. His treatment of Gregg, of Norv Turner-- absolutely inexcusable rudeness.

For having to deal with these people regularly, JLC deserves combat pay. I believes he's been more than fair to them.

JLC, quick! call the league and see if the 'Skins are doing something wrong about Fincher. "Mom, if sis stole a cookie would she be in trouble? oh by the way she was just by the cookie jar. I'm not saying but I'm saying." JLC is a sorry excuse for a beat reporter considering no player or employee has professional respect for him!
All you snyder haters, would you give away tickets when at the current prices your selling out and have created the second most valuable franchise in history? No because that would make you the worst businessman in history. He is a fan, and is willing to do whatever to win. We could be in a city were the owner doesnt care

So, Fincher is still on the team, and Gatewood is off of the Practice Squad. There goes the Dallas game! We've got no chance of beating them now. Oh wait, Roy Williams is still playing safety for the 'Boys, and Tony Romo might have a new girlfriend. Go Skins!
