It's Gonna Be Windy and Cold

Heading to FedEx Field? Layer up, the Capital Weather Gang says. They say, "Brrrrrr;" I imagine you'll say something like, "Brrrrrring it."

Give Mike Wilbon a read today. He chatted with Jerry Jones on Friday. And Barry Svrluga writes about the relationship between former Redskins who now are broadcasters and the team. Our Redskins Gameday preview focuses on DeMarcus Ware.

The view from Dallas is about what you'd expect: This game may well be the season for the Cowboys. Jean-Jacques Taylor says it's put up or shut your pie hole. The Star-Telegram thinks the Cowboys' struggles could actually be good for them.

As usual, we'll be BOGO, twittering like mad (be sure to tweet us with FedEx updates, adding the #skins at the end of each tweet so all can see) and mobile texting (text "REDSKINS" to WPOST [97678]). Figure on getting the inactives about 90 minutes before kickoff.

Should the Skins FIRST play their guts out?

...or should they SECOND keep it medium?

I guess it doesn't matter as long as they convert all their THIRD downs.

This makes me despondent.

Cindy - doing well, thank you. Hope you are as well.

I've been awfully busy lately, however, compiling statistics and film clips for the Leigh Torrence Ring of Honor Induction next year.

I've seen something that I need to bring up....

I few times the past couple days, I 've seen the "We will because of the Sean Taylor Tribute" and the "That is the Giants game" response.

Not to get ahead of anything, but, what makes that tribute game an automatic win?? If we couldn't win the Buffalo game right after he passed, why does a Ring of Honor tribute make it automatic? I know some will say "we were exhausted for the Buffalo game." True enough, but I don't see this as ...Taylor Tribute = win...

i hope we lose the toss and get to start on D. Zorn needs to realize that the crowd is never back to their seats for 2nd half and giving the opposition the ball then is puttin our D at a huge disadvantage.

but since Zorn wants the ball, we can only hope that we lose the toss. and also hope that the cowpukes elect to receive.

Talk about desperate. So glad we didn't hire this loser.
-------------------------

Jim Fassel has stepped up his campaign to become an NFL head coach again in the most interesting of ways.

A team source tells ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that Fassel recently sent a handwritten letter to Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis, expressing his respect and admiration for Davis and his desire to coach the embattled franchise.

Fassel last worked in the league as offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens from 2003 until his dismissal midway through the 2006 season. He was head coach of the New York Giants from 1997 until the team fired him after the 2003 season.

Fassel was 60-56-1 in seven seasons with the Giants and led the club to a Super Bowl XXXV appearance against Baltimore. He had two interviews with the Washington Redskins last offseason before owner Daniel Snyder ultimately decided to hire Jim Zorn as his coach.

Lane Kiffin was fired by Davis on Sept. 30 after Oakland starter 1-3, with the job going to offensive line coach Tom Cable on an interim basis. The Raiders are 1-4 under Cable. Kiffin, meanwhile, has filed a grievance against Davis in an attempt to collect the remaining money on his contract.

The upheaval within the coaching staff has yet to abate. Davis, it turns out, stripped offensive coordinator Gregg Knapp of play-calling duties, a source told Mortensen. Cable said last week that he relieved Knapp of his duties before a Week 10 loss to the Carolina Panthers and would remain in that role for the rest of the season.

Cindy,

Are you privy to the behind-the-scenes thinking as to why "Making Waves on the Airwaves" is the lead story in the sports section today? Is this bigger than Maryland upsetting UNC? Or the Caps game? And, what is the tie-in to the Redskins-Cowboys game? And, was there any news in this story?

Posted by: talent_evaluator | November 16, 2008 1:35 PM | Report abuse

I wouldn't give "Wilbon a read" if you had a gun to my head. He is such a closeted Redskin hater who resents all the attention he has to give them as a Post employee. And it was a year ago about now that he basically said Sean Taylor got what he deserved. Screw you Wilbon!

Talent, the thinking is that, since Maryland is given so much real estate on the front and the lede art, that it is the lede story, although it's not at the top of the page. the skins story is one we've been working on; the thought was that wilbon would carry the skins-boyz angle.

Is this what it means to be prejudiced?

I read the column. Can you explain to me what it says that marks Wilbon as a "Redskins hater"? I must be missing something.

Posted by: talent_evaluator | November 16, 2008 1:51 PM | Report abuse

TE, Wilbon is hated because of his derogatory comments (and article) about our beloved Sean Taylor - which was an unforgivable offense and which he refused to apologize for.

I'm very disappointed to see a picture (and article) of Jerry Jones on the front page of the sports section of our hometown newspaper. Don't we see Jones ENOUGH? On the sidelines of every Cowboys game and every media outlet known to the sports nation?

I've always thought Wilbon was a passive-aggressive Redskin hater who had to do it in subtle ways to keep his job. Ways like trash talking ST after he was murdered and just recently saying "TO has owned the Skins". Right or wrong: that's just the vibe I get from that dude.

Thanks, Austin. The TO comment was strange and, again, wrong. Last night, though, on George Michaels show Wilbon picked the 'Skins to beat the Cowboys.

My own feeling about him is that he doesn't stay on top of all the stuff he tries to be expert about on ESPN. He's just trying to do more than he can.

RL--I may have missed that. As I remember it (with 20-50 recall, probably) most of his worst stuff was in his on-line chat which was pretty much winging it. But I thought, after all the facts were in, that he still was not apologizing and was doing a Bill Clinton "it depends on what the meaning of is is" sort of number.

RomoLongballs, that is strange because Wilbon was given the opportunity to apologize on Redskins Report and he did not do so.

Dealer, I truly hope I am wrong. We have to fly all the way to Seattle next weekend....which brings me to this question....why do we have to make 2 West Coast trips (Seattle and SF) and the Super Bowl winning Giants get to play both of those teams in the Meadowlands?

Wilbon never apologized. He made it worse. He "refused to apologize, but was sorry if anyone was offended" and still felt he was right about ST having it coming. This was done in his "Chat House" and was the last time I ever read it. His attitude about Sean was so hateful and cold right after he was murdured and that I cannot forget. I don't listen or read him anymore. Maybe he's changed. I don't know.
