Jason Campbell NFC Offensive Player of Week

Good for JC. Great kid. More good stuff to come.

Also, Andre Carter was nominated for NFC Defensive Player of the Week, but didn't get it (not sure who did yet, haven't had time to check).

Eleventyteenth (my fav. #)

I'm not as good at my video searches of the interwidegooglewebnets that I am at text searches. Has anyone found a video of Andre Carter's safety on Kitna? I'm not so much interested in the sack itself, but the rag doll toss of the OT (its a shot from behind the defense). Some buddies who were at the game didn't get to see it, and I'm trying to make a point about Carter.

Posted by: dcsween | October 10, 2007 12:15 PM

I think you can see a clip on NFL.com

Posted by: Dik | October 10, 2007 12:22 PM | Report abuse

Dik and whoever posted the youtube on the previous thread, that angle I'm looking for is not on that youtube or any of the NFL thumbnails. I'm looking for the camera angle behind the defense (that funky floating camera on strings), not the one from up in the stands. thx though.

Posted by: dcsween | October 10, 2007 12:28 PM | Report abuse

That was a nice sack by Carter, but I think the o-lineman was off balance more than anything, and Andre just used his momentum to toss him that way. Not taking anything away from him, just that it didn't seem like it was one of those Reggie White sacks where he just picked a dude up, tossed him into the third row, then went and stomped the qb.

Ninth.

This is awesome news. Props to Soup.

Oh, and I think Jasno has proven that he can give credit where credit as due (just as he used to a couple of years back). If he had continued to be as negative as he was during the preseason, it really would have proved the finger-pointers (me included) correct. But he hasn't.

Tried to search both the NFL and FedEx sites for the player of the week announcement. The site says they don't announce till Friday night on "Total Access."

Pulldownclaw, maybe he was off-balance, but that's not what I remember happening when I saw it the first time or on replay. That's why I want to find it again.

Sween, I swore I saw that angle on the NFL site. I can't check it here, but I'll try to get it tonight & post it (unless anyone else can do it now.

I know what you're talking about - Carter threw that man like a Rag Doll!

Now there's an acquisition from SF (albeit Free Agency) that's worth something.

Nice to see the kid getting some notice for a hands down solid game!

Bummer on Carter though. He actually had the best stats all the way around versus the other Nominees, but I bet they gave it to the guy with the interception returned for a TD. His stats were close enough I could see the TD swaying the votes.

But there's no doubt that the safety really turned the tide of the whole game on Sunday!

sak, i agree w/ about the lead blocker, and mac strong was a perenial pro bowler cuz he was blocking for alexander who has had guady #'s the past few years (until hutchison left for the vikes).. but on talent alone & versatility (not to mention intimidation factor) sellers is bar none the best fb in the nfc, maybe the entire NFL... he is very underated because he does alot of the dirty work.. people in dc have known his potential for years, but outside of dc he is seen more of a role player... that is until he has a game like this past weekend.

JLaC - You should've posted the JC - POW thing 1st, and then posted the Tale of 2 Favres, because I disagree with your assessment, specifically on them having a stout line. They are the youngest team in the league and their starting center is out for the game. Their OLine is inexperienced........

I agree about the Packer line being somewhat overrated, especially with injury. Favre was running for his life in the second half...albeit to a very good Bears D-Line.....

Also a team that runs as mediocre as they do can't have a punishing line.

Romo is the ULTIMATE over hyped media creation!

The Packers line while inexperinced is still one of the better O-line as a unit. True, the running game is non existent so far. I think if the Redskins keep the same game plan when they played De-troit, with a few adjustments, (Good luck with the self proclaimed "Smartest Defensive Mind" doing so) the Skins should be able to win, but probably won't.

I'm a good friend of Carter's and I've seen that move before. To test his speed and strength one time I jokingly tried to block him and he tossed me just like that Lions tackle over his living room couch into the coffee table while he ate a sandwich with his other hand. And I'm 6'3 200lbs.

JLa's comment was something along the lines of "comparatively" or some such word. He was comparing it to the Lions.

It will be interesting to see what we do on Defense this week. It will be tempting to play it as we did last week but Kitna aint Favre and that O-line can pass block. If it's me I have my Dline play the run and blitz from the OLB and SS. It's time to turn Landry loose.

And CL is right. Romo is legit but you need to seperate the story from the qb. As I said yesterday, it's possible that Romo was the worst player in the NFL last weekend.

-sween

I'm not sure about that, sween. Tatum Bell ate us up last year and I'm not even sure they have enough healthy backs to fill a "stable".

You are, as ever, the sinsei, though.

Posted by: Larry Bud | October 10, 2007 1:15 PM | Report abuse

If Romo threw 8 picks he'll still be King Romo, (In my supersmart voice) down here. Yes I know he may have been the worst player in the league this past Sunday, but where was everyone when he was putting up those 250+ games? On your commode shtiten bricks, thats where. All the Skins fans collectively asked "Who the F is Tony Romo? "Why is he in Dallas?" He answered by making a pro-bowl/playoff appearance. And to answer to the notion of me saying BS to stir the spot...

That is true about 20% of the time.

Oh and yes, yes, yes. An NFL analyst should not be an avenue of pursuit for the all-time rushing king. But he was rather entertaining on Dancing With The Stars. And don't act like if, for example, Art Monk were to appear on the show you wouldn't be sending txt msgs to vote for your HOF shafted receiver.

Skinz - JlaC said the Packers Oline is stout. They are no where close to 'stout' or a good line, if they are 31st in the NFL in rushing. Lions took over 32nd after playing us........

Now, Denver's line is stout because you can insert any no name and they become 1,000 yard rushers....

Posted by: 4th | October 10, 2007 1:23 PM | Report abuse

JustMe, that was EXACTLY the camera angle I remember. Thanks.

The guy blocking Carter was not falling down. He was moving inside and trying to block down. Admittedly, Carter stopped moving laterally and set his feet to cast off the guy, but THAT was what they call in Greco-Roman wrestling, an "upper body throw."

Larry Bud, I can't disagree about Tatum Bell, but whoever he used to be ... that guy didn't show up (maybe he's hurt or something). The Packers combo that concerns me is Morency/Wynn. The Lions didn't really show up with a combo of backs, just multiples ones (none of whom could accomplish much after their spirits were punctured in the first half). I don't think Bell even got any touches in the second half.

DBoyzx-5, to me, it didn't look like Romo really had much of a turnaround ... it seemed like it was the kicking team and the kicker who saved that one. I don't deny Romo has had a great start (and that pulling out of a tail spin like that first half against the Bills is anything other than daunting), but the Bills certainly exposed his Achilles' Heel (the metaphorical one, not the anatomical one). [Not sure if you've seen the WaPo print edition, but RI's very own Amazing Dik Shuttle lays it out quite nicely.]

Dboyz, in case you are outside the area, here's Dik's shout out:

"I think the way to beat the Cowboys was revealed: Stop Marion Barber and key against the run. Rush four [linemen] and let the outside linebackers spy [quarterback Tony] Romo -- you'll see [interceptions] by him in that instance. He's done it before, he'll do it again. Plus, Terrell Owens is dropping passes against the Bills' defense? Wait until Area 51 drills him a few times."

Posted by: dcsween | October 10, 2007 1:33 PM | Report abuse

That is true Larry Bud, but if they thought they were actually going to get somewhere running the ball they would have done it more, remember our safties were playing deep, and we didnt blitz once to help out our front 4. If we lose this week it wont be the running game that beats us, itll be the farve in the backfield.

Comparatively being the key word. For instance as I said before, I've never claimed to be smart. When you bring Cowboys fans into the equation however, I do claim to be comparatively smart.

Some people call them "shuffle passes," LB.

Posted by: Nate in the PDX | October 10, 2007 1:43 PM | Report abuse

Larry Bud, feel no compulsion to yield. Peeps here definitely will not, esp. about the possibility of a Packers' running game (given the rushing yardage to date ... which earns poop salad sandwiches for their O-line). But there are some guns that I stick to. For example, peeps pooped on me over the summer for suggesting that the Lions COULD have been a Saints for this season. Notwithstanding last Sunday's game, I still think they look better than the Bears and Vikings and could hang around long enough to scrap for a wild card spot. [Not that getting a wild card spot in the NFC has as much cache as, for example, a Skins belt buckle, but now they know what the need to fix ... pass protection.]

Also, as far as this Dallas talk goes, I gotta admit that for me, Monday night was about scouting the Bills. I got plenty of Dallas info from Big Media. The concern about the Cowboys game is going to be the return of the former Bears NT/felon. He will have had that many fewer weeks of game time wear and tear when he gets inserted over Rabach and the guards. Right now, the only team to think about is the Packers.

October and mid January to March. are the best months for sports. And to comment on the analysis on the keys to stopping the Dallas offense, I think you can use that game plan on 90% of the teams in the NFL. Not too many teams use more than 3-wide sets. Although I think that is changing. The Steelers are now using multiple sets. The Steelers? Good analysis, but everything is always easier said than done.

With the expressed consent of respected regular RI bloggers (you know who you are), I would like to try using the acronym in my post...

ITA, Forrest. I never heard of you and if you haven't heard my stance on posting on here vs. posting else where please view the other 841 post regarding that matter. So with that said I choose to ITA.

35332, pack4life and I had some yuks about us showing up in the throwbacks -- it would be one big golden mess out there.

sween, 4th, others... if the Packers' O is so similar to the Lions' O, don't you think the biggest question this week is how they try to game plan for Grilliams' D, which they just watched thoroughly dismantle the Lions? (Shuffle passes, draw plays, and like such as?) This is the chess match. VIGILANCE!

Want to see our running game work well again. We didn't get the big runs last Sunday, but otherwise it was the right complement to that efficient passing game: move the chains, eat clock, punch it in. BALANCE!

Nate the Packers are who we think they are. They aren't going to all of sudden sprout a running game this weekend. I'm sure "the 2nd G stands for Genius" is going to tweak last weeks scheme a bit to deal with Favre Bean but keep it basically the same. I see more picks and a fumble recovery or two.

Ok, whew.

The Cowboys for sure will have their toughest task when they play NE. I think they will force them to run by taking away the pass, and they have the secondary to do it. How I see it, the Cowboys have 4 average to very good receivers. It will be fun to watch for sure. The key is getting Jones/Barber^3 going. If they are able to get em' with the PA we all know that opens things up downfield, especially those 10-15 yard routes. Witten should and most likely be a non factor. He will be blanketed by A. Thomas all day. My heart is telling me they'll win but my mind is saying

That's the ticket, redskirt: playing for four quarters.

My favorite thing of all from last Sunday was not letting the Lions get back in the game. We knocked them down and then we "put our foot on they neck," which we haven't been able to do with any consistency.

This will be a closer game than that one, and of course it's on the road, but I want to see the same exact spirit and focus from our boys, from kickoff to the final whistle.

Forrest, I'm not trying to be protocol patrol (that's Nate's job), but its a question of maintaining some dignity as real Skins fans (as opposed to over-aggressive, angry homers, like on ExtremeSkins). There was a new poster awhile back who started as "Stop the Kool Aid" ... seemed like a new starter from the horde over at ES. After some civil discussion, he shortened it to "Stop" and picked up on how we talk about stuff, not scream about stuff.

D-Boyz (seriously, how about D-x5?), Adalius Thomas IS the reason why the Pats are so much trouble this year. Its not just about covering TEs. He's everywhere on the field. He is what Polamalu was fabled to have been. Pats' O (like the Colts' O) is overhyped ... but the Pats' D (like the Colts' D) is underhyped.

[I feel like shooting myself in the head for talking about the Pats and the Clots ... the Skins are facing Favre for cripessakes! Starting right now, I'm going to start pronouncing his name as is should be pronounced ... Farf ... like Barf.]

D-x5 or whatever you call yourself now.
You should be jealous of the following teams:

Patriots (because they are now commonly referred to as "Americas Team)... Dallas lost title of Americas team when they became America's Most Wanted team... looking at their fan base, Dallas is Mexicos team... but The Media's Team clearly fits them the past few years. What other team that hasn't won a playoff game in OVER a DECADE gets as much hype?

And the following teams have more, or as many, NFL championships as your Gloryboys:
Packers have 14 championships
Bears have 8
Redskins have 5
Colts have 5
49ers have 5
Steelers have 5
Cowboys have 5

If you wanna just talk superbowls, here ya go:
Dallas was not the first to win 4 (Steelers were) were not the first to win 5 (San Fran) and were not most recent to win 5 (Steelers again)

Recent History? Ok:
Since 1990, the Redskins have 5 seasons that resulted in at least one playoff victory. Dallas has 6. Not much to be jealous of over here, bro.

Hey losers----jason campbell winning player of the week is such a major accomplishment. He is definitely better than Tony Romo now right?

WRONG-----Tony Romo was the NFL offensive player of the month for September and has won player of the week 4 times in his 16 starts.

Looks like doug williams jr has some catching up to

And the fact that Dallas has won more Super Bowls, more playoff games and more NFC east division titles than any team in the NFL is made even more impressive by the fact that they have only existed for 47 years.

Now redskins fans, you can go ahead and skew all of those facts to try to make the redskins sound better but real football fans know the truth.

Cowboys, Yankees, Celtics, Canadiens, Notre Dame football, UCLA basketball, Tiger Woods. Those are the flagship francises/teams/players.

What is your response to that DIK eater?

No I completely understand, Dorf. I know which one you mean. I might even know some of the kids you teach, and some of your co-teachers, considering that I'm still pretty active in my church whenever I go home.

And D-x5, sween apologized for the misunderstanding. I took him more seriously when he was mainly just making a joke at Brady's and Romo's expense (I tend to do that, sorry guys!)

How unsurprisingly immature.

Assuming you even understood my opening three-word statement, "Cowboy fan," nobody is interested in debating which franchises are the "best" one. We're interested in talking about football right now - not talking about all the "flagship" teams whose bandwagon you've jumped on.

I love how you compare Jason Campbell (11 starts, 2 years) to the 5-year veteran Dallas QB who has more starts. You'd think an older, more experienced guy would be further along...and that it wouldn't be worth bragging about after a 5-INT game against the Bills.

I'm not interested in having a conversation with anyone whose tone makes it sound like they were somehow personally responsible for their team's historical success. Particularly when they bring up stuff that happened before they were even born.

Please take your weak-ass trolling back to wherever you jumped on the Dallas bandwagon from.
