Daniels Out For Season; Buzbee Goes Down

Jason Reid has learned that Phillip Daniels is out for the season and, while we are still pinning down the exact specifics of the knee injury, it is indeed season-ending, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

A Redskins official, who asked not to be identified because of the league's tampering rules, denied an ESPN report that the team is pursuing Miami star DE Jason Taylor, who has been seeking a trade and says he wants to play one more NFL season before exploring Hollywood opportunities.

The second practice of the day began at 3 and, for the second time, a defensive end has been carted off the field in the first 30 minutes of practice. Alex Buzbee, a second-year player out of Georgetown, was hurt early in special-teams practice. He appeared to have suffered an ankle injury and taken from the field on a cart.

The Redskins were already thin at DE, and losing a starter on the first play of 7-on-7 drills, followed by another later in the day, is never a good thing, obviously. The Redskins had rebuffed Miami's approaches earlier in the offseason, with the Dolphins shopping the former NFL Player of the Year. The need is more acute now, however. Washington traded for injured DE Erasmus James, but he is not close to being ready to play right now as he recovers from knee surgery, and did not address the area until the final round of the draft.
