Do we really continue taking the "best talent available" approach that Cock-Eyed Vinny uses after the fiasco that we just witnessed this past April ? I think after losing our 09' 2nd rounder because of this approach, Vinny will have a change of heart, I think........

Posted by: Earl Sugarloaf III | August 5, 2008 9:49 AM

Surely, you jest. But then again seeing that ridiculous statement of never using free agency as way to improve your team and I see you'd like to play with a disadvatage. Thank God, for Vinny. Never thought I'd think that let alone put in print. Earl the 3rd that's your contribution.

If Buges can do this with an undrafted Tackle what can he do with a more physically gifted Tackle in the 3rd or 4th round ?

Posted by: Earl Sugarloaf III | August 5, 2008 10:05 AM

Buges can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. He got lucky with Heyer. In 2004 we drafted two tackles for him: Molinaro and Wilson. If you want either of them back, you can call their agents because they're out of the league.

So wait, did I miss something?? You can't pay off debts with bonus points? When did this happen?

For those of you who question the front office about picking Fred Davis with Cooley already in tow, the Pats, used first round picks on Tight Ends, within 2 years of each other when they drafted Daniel Graham with a first round pick, then traded a first, and a third to move up to select Ben Watson. Not saying this is going to pan out roses for the team, just saying....

I like the videos, I mean I would love to see the Posts staff take some video education classes so the end product can continue to look better but thats about it, learn the basics of framing and stuff. But I think as this technology age progresses more classically "print" news will be going this way. Its a good thing too.

My final plea which undoubtedly will fall on deaf ears. No to registration. With fake Nake gone and a season upcoming to discuss Registrations many drawbacks far outweigh it's benefits.

Stop the migration and use the ad revenue from the hits during the non downtime to purchase IP tracking and blocking software.

Calling for someone's job over a blog outage, dealer? Doesn't that seem just a teeny tiny bit extreme, dude?

We ARE going to continue to get news updates posted up here, but the comments will be disabled. For a while.

My concern is the outage slipping, since in my experience (on the blog and in real life) these things rarely go off without a hitch. As long as the blog's back up by the Buffalo exhibition game...

That's true. I think I saw Jim Molinaro and Kili Lefotu selling used cars with Trung Candidate at Eastern Motors. Regardless, you have to admit Heyer is slow with his footwork and agility. Drills can only do so much, you either got it or you don't. I think Heyer will make a name for himself as a solid, steady RT but not spectacular. I'm thinking a slightly less talented version of Jon Jansen, which is not too bad for an undrafted Lineman.

nate, you're minimalizing my frustration by calling it "just a blog". this isn't just a blog to wapo. the truth is this is one of the highest traffic generating page wapo owns. they're taking a high traffic generating site off-line at its peek time. i truely believe this page generates more traffic during the week than it does on a game day. we've seen that.

of course cindy could come back with the actual numbers and say "nope, actually skinsinsider page is doing just okay...and is really not that popular or does not generate enough clicks or that the majority come here to read news and not discuss..." and i'll be fine with being wrong. and take back everything i said about someone should be fired.

and also nate when was the last time someone took off their app. in the middle of the almost peek time for a minor update as this?

Always draft BAP, then fill holes through FA and the occasional trade after. Thats a sound long term strategy used by many teams today. Now if you are in the Oak, KC, MIA shape of a team then I would go for some talent in FA for a while, just to have a team that is watchable.

a lot of teams might claim to always draft the best player available, but I could probably count on one hand how many teams actually do that. That's why it is such an advantage to have that plan and stick to it.

Alex got the order wrong, but the idea right -- if you decide that (as a wild, nonsensical example) that your 220 lb. starting MLB isn't getting the job done, use FA to get a 240 lb. wrecking ball (with optional hyphenated last name).
Use the draft to get the best player available. If we had taken the 16th best DE with the Sleepy pick last spring, we'd be trying to figure out why he was so bad as a first stringer right now.

Plus about eight others I couldn't fit into the box. I was trying to establish a record number of Blog Brands.

I see the blog as a bunch of niche markets, and you can't serve all markets with just one brand. Plus this "talent evaluator" brand is so widely discredited that I don't think I can resurrect it. One word comes to mind when people read it and it rhymes with pick.

So instead trying to please all the people all the time, I was opting to please a few of the people each of the times. One name for the haters. One for the nut jobs. One for the goody-two-shoes. One for the me-toos. One for the anons. Etc.

Two more months, and I would have ruled the blog. I would have had at least one Blog Brand that appealed to everyone up here. Even Dealer and Barno. Now, I have to start over. I'm a crushed man.

SKIPPY'S LOST PEST

Hi, I'm skippy and I have a metal plate in my...Blah blah blah.

With regurgitation looming, Skippy is sad. Because to pest under his true identitity would expostulate his true identity and Skippy can't have that happen. Because of Skippy's big Secret. Skippy is Batman but can't tell anyone.

Skippy will remain a big Redskim fan, because he roots for them all the time, and will lurk at the wedsite.

In the meantome, you can make do with the fake third person posters like The Truth, who is NOT Batman, and will either expose himself or slunk away too.

But mostly Skippy's hard go outs for all the Anons who must also stick it out and expose their selves.

Skippy will miss you, but not for lack of aiming.

Fondly,

Skippy

Posted by: chris LARRY | August 5, 2008 10:59 AM

CL, I am afraid that some people won't register, it's an extra step before you can post, and for this reason alone the blog will get less new posters than before. I am not sure why registration is necessary, the blog is fine the way it is. Last time around, they justified the registration by saying that they wanted to keep the trolls, a.k.a. anonymous posters, in check. Trolls have not been out of hand recently and presumably they have the right to free speech, even though WaPo wants to regulate it through registration. The registration efforts are silly and I won't loose any sleep over registration. On a positive side, once the registration is open, I might register under the name "The Truth" to stop all this talk in the 3rd person.
