Brennan's Hip a Problem All Preseason

Quarterback Colt Brennan often said he would not make excuses for his poor performance during the preseason.

As I'm finding out now, it appears Brennan had, at least in part, one legitimate excuse: a left hip injury. Brennan suffered the injury in the Redskins' preseason opener Aug. 13 against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium.

The Redskins did not reveal the injury when it occurred, and Brennan - who had surgery to repair a slightly torn labrum in his right hip in April 2008 - continued to play despite the discomfort. But the injury had an effect on Brennan's mechanics, a league source told me today, and made it harder for him to operate within the offense.

Obviously, the injury was not the cause of Brennan's poor decision-making for most of the preseason. But the Redskins knew Brennan was not operating at full strength physically. When Brennan was sacked late in the fourth quarter Thursday night in Jacksonville, he aggravated his hamstring and hip injuries in addition to tearing his hamstring. He is expected to have further tests on his hip soon.

Is it possible to have weak hips?

periculum,

the source where you got that information makes Sports Illustrated look like ESPN.

D. Hall started against the Gints(Eli Manning) for us too and he would had two picks if not for selfish Springs. D. Hall isn't great, but he's good and I think he's only 24 years old.

And MOST running backs have great years at age 27 AND 28; In fact it is the peak years for average rbs. Trust me when I say this, cuz I'm not going to do the homework for you.

Great running backs don't start to decline until age 30, but they are still serviceable.

To be bi-partisan, at least your source was smart enough to recognize CP26 is among the elite and has always been that way. That's why he's a HOFamer--I know you disagree with me there, but I'm sorry to tell you that HOF numbers gets you into the HOF; that's how it works, b/c the committee understands that great players often play for underachieving teams.

REPOST:

Less than two weeks before the regular season, three NFL clubs were desperate enough to fire their offensive coordinators.

"It's alarming that in this league it's getting to where people are feeling pressure even after the preseason," former New York Giants head coach Jim Fassel said. "You're kind of going 'Wow. This season is going to be one wild ride.' "

Zorn on the hotseat with Campbell.

Redskins folk, this is Danny Snyder-ville, a far cry from Pleasantville. Do you really think Snyder will keep Zorn for the entire season if they start to lose?

We'll see. If Samuels goes down again? We'll see.

The problem is you need at least two good ones. Neither Hall or Rogers have had good camps. Again we'll see. We'll be able to compare Springs with both.

I've never seen so much press given to a third string nobody who messed up all preseason! That's crazy to me. Like when they actually interviewed him after the first preseason game he messed up in???? why???? again who cares? This town wants a "Golden-Boy" so bad that they are trying to fabricate one. joevick- Why does it matter if we don't have a third string?? They weren't gonna play anyway. In Suisham's defense, he had a different holder every 3 games last year. He also attempted the most fields goals from 40+ out. That also indicates that we CANNOT score touchdowns!!!

Along with the Skins players sweating out the cut to 53, the RI's own JReid must be feeling the heat as well:

1. Completely missed the boat on BMW. Said he shouldn't even be on the field.

2. Recent RI banner "Redskins Escape Preseason Unscathed". Duh. What about Carlos Rogers? Didn't play any of the preseason. Probably not ready to start the regular season. Even if he does start against the Giants he will be out of shape and unprepared. Smoot as CB replacement? Pass the maalox.

3. Completely out to lunch on the Skins carrying only 2 QBs.

From RI: "As I'm finding out now, it appears Brennan had, at least in part, one legitimate excuse: a left hip injury. Brennan suffered the injury in the Redskins' preseason opener Aug. 13 against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium."

"As I am finding out now" - deadly words for a reporter to have to write. Need to update my list:

4. Never knew about "season-ending" injury to Dolt Brennan.

Season-ending is in quotes for a reason.

Required reading for those of us riding the "Hope The Redskins Open Up The Offense Express":

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/06/sports/football/06offense.html?_r=1&8dpc

The summary: NFL teams are embracing the college spread and are using more 3/4 wide receiver formations.

Teams are drafting big quarterbacks who can take hits and get rid of the ball quickly.

The one-dimensional big money power running back is a dinosaur in a world where the past two super bowl champs have used to pass to win the game.

The skins are actually doing a HUGE favor for Chase Daniels. From what I've read, it seems that they are placing him on waivers to give him a chance to get picked up by another team, say oh I dunno, NEW ENGLAND. This seems like the ultimate showing of respect in my opinion. If they don't get him back, which would be the best scenario for Daniels, then I'm sure they can fire up Snyder's jet and literally get whatever qb available they want. Smart move from the guys here. So all of you haters:

Eagles give Klecko the heave-ho
Posted by Evan Silva on September 5, 2009 1:53 PM ET
The Eagles have cut ties with Dan Klecko, according to Brad Biggs of the National Football Post and the Chicago Sun Times.

Klecko will be attractive to other teams because of his versatility. He can play defensive tackle and lead block.

The 28-year-old was the Patriots' fourth-round pick in 2003. New England doesn't have a fullback on its current roster and may show renewed interest in Klecko.

Redskins to place Brennan on IR, Daniel on practice squad
Posted: September 5th, 2009 | NFL.com Staff | Tags: Chase Daniel, Colt Brennan, roster cutdown, Washington Redskins

The Redskins announced Saturday that they are placing backup QB Colt Brennan on injured reserve, the result of a nagging hamstring injury he aggravated in a preseason game against the Jaguars last Thursday night.

NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports that the Redskins plan to sign backup QB Chase Daniel to the practice squad, according to a team source. Daniel, who was signed as a rookie free agent, will be among the team’s cuts, but he impressed the coaches with his production, intellect and work ethic in the preseason.

These moves mean the Redskins likely will begin the season with just two quarterbacks — starter Jason Campbell and backup Todd Collins.

Contrary to a published report, the Washington Redskins do plan to sign QB Chase Daniel to the practice squad. Daniel, who was signed as a rookie free agent, will be among the team’s cuts – and QB Colt Brennan is going on IR – but he impressed the coaches with his production, intellect and work ethic in the preseason and the team intends to sign him to the practice squad, according to a team source.

One of the reasons young 3rd string QBs are so important is because--especially if they stay in the same system over time--they can grow up to be ver good 1st string QBS. Cases in point from "Skins history: Joe Theismann, Mark Rypien and (albeit stars for other teams) Stan Humphries and Trent Green.
