Campbell Offers Early Assessment

Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell isn't interested in focusing on the offense's shortcomings to this point early in camp.

Mistakes have been made, Campbell said, and the players' timing and execution must improve. But the Skins still are way ahead of where they were last year through the same point of camp, which heads into day 4 with an 8:30 practice at Redskins Park.

"You can really see the difference from last camp to this one," he said. "Last year, guys were thinking about what they were doing all the time because the offense was so new to us. Coach [Jim] Zorn was really just getting us started with the building blocks, just getting it going, and it was a little bit rough at times. What you're seeing now out there is just totally different.

"Yeah, we need to be sharper and play 'faster' like Coach Zorn always talks about, but that's not the same thing as guys trying to figure stuff out when we're running a play. You can look at guys in the huddle and then see them doing their assignments, and you know everyone knows what to do out there. So that's a big improvement. The rest of it will come as we get more and more reps and just work together. That's what I see."

The offensive line, in particular, is off to a slow start. The unit gave up 38 sacks last season, the league's fourth-highest total, and significant improvement, obviously, is needed in that area.

"You just can't worry or panic or anything like that, because you know all the hard work our guys put in and I know they're going to do a great job this year," Campbell said. "They're just trying to get some things figured out, but we all have confidence they're going to have a great year. We just have to keep building every day."
If you're going out to practice, the Capital Weather Gang reports that there is "abundant moisture in the air."

You'll know he's leader of the team when he tells Clinton Portis to stop running his mouth and let his play speak for him.

Did anyone else read the article on the redskins blog about hunter smith? a good point was made in that he was the holder for both vanderjagt and vinatiere who were both incredibly consistent.

Maybe an insanely consistent and good holder will make for a more consistent kicker?

The truth about the offense will be told come third preseason game.

If the pass blocking isn't fixed by then, it'll be broke all season.

the truth will be told against the giants opening day. If they can slow their rush down at all it will make me feel way better about our chances. Although I think Heyer will have a very good season.
