Safety Lendy Holmes, defensive end Rob Jackson, wide receiver Trent Shelton, defensive end J.D. Skolnitsky and fullback Eddie Williams have been named to the Redskins' practice squad.

Antonio Dixon, cut yesterday by the team, has been picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles.

What about Darrel Young?

There is room for 3 more on the PS. I would have thought Chase, Glenn, and Young.

Unless they are looking outside the org.

I know that there are special rules for the third QB. If this slot is filled by a regular position player do any of those rules stll apply?

You mean that barno1 didn't get the scoop on these picks? We have to read 'em up here, first?

I guess he's not going to be working at the Post after all. Barno1, how quickly can you get me a large meat lover's with breadsticks?

And Thomas not only returns kicks, but makes tackles.

Does anyone remember when he knocked the crap outta J. Cribbs and fired up the whole team who drove down to take the lead???

how about the ensuing kickoff that was almost returned for a TD, until #11 knocked the crap outta that guy too???

If DT11 can get the focus/discipline (and he's only just starting his 2nd year, and WR's usually take a while to develop), from what I've seen, he could be a great one. He has real speed, great aggressiveness/physicality, he's a big target, has very good hands even when getting hit/mauled by the DB.

Having him, MK, and MM along with ARE in the slot where he belongs, and of course the great but oft-injured Moss... I'm very happy with this receiver corps.

I really think this Redskins team is 1 or 2 O-linemen and a PK away from lots of fun and playoff games. Plus we really needed on-the-field leadership, and I think we got this at least on the D side with Big Al. Still no vocal leader on O though.

Agreed.

Moss is a dynamic player who'd benefit from working underneath coverage or being moved around.

I mean, think of Moss being used like Wes Welker, and suddenly Moss in the slot makes a lot of sense.

It's a sad thing the team didn't have space for a hungry player Antonio Dixon, 6' 4" 325 pounds.

I think a long term injury to Stephon Heyer or Chris Samuels will hurt the team more than Jason Campbell getting hurt.

Who backs up at either tackle spot?

I say you go after the Pashos, the tackle the jags cut.

You can not have enough depth on the o-line.

I agree on the WR's, Finally we got 3 - 6'4" ers

Campbell is stepping up to the leadership role. He's not a vocal flashy leader, neither is Eli Manning. There is a core veteran group that sets the tone at each position: Samuels, Moss, Portis, Cooley, Sellars.

Posted by: pabrian2003 | September 6, 2009 4:13 PM | Report abuse

I've noticed that Devin T is way more focused on catching the ball, you can see him physically pausing to make sure his has the catch before trying to run.

Kelly is more polished and will start and has won the battle for now, but it looked like they will have plays and/or series designed to get the ball to Devin.

It's GREAT to see JC be able to throw the ball to Kelly, even if he's covered, knowing Kely can out muscle and out reach the CB.

Posted by: pabrian2003 | September 6, 2009 4:14 PM | Report abuse

Plus I'd reckon there's a good chance Danno/Vinno will pursue one of the highly touted college QB's in next year's draft, so we'd need to get OT's via FA anyway, Pashos seems like a great candidate.

I don't think it will go down like this. If he's on their opening day roster, then they have to pay him for the year. So, maybe they'll look at him this week and cut him if they don't like him, or someone else if they do. My guess is that Vick will be on the opening day roster.

But Eagles feasting on Redskins table scraps? I think it's a good thing.

Saints signed QB Chase Daniel to their practice squad.
Daniel could've went to Washington's practice team, but is making a smart move here. He can learn behind another highly accurate, if undersized passer (Drew Brees). The Saints' only other QB is 39-year-old backup Mark Brunell.

I thought Antonio Dixon was a project with huge upside. I wish the team had traded Montgomery and kept Dixon. Montgomery is one of those players that will always intrigue but never deliver the goods. Dixon, while being nowhere near as athletic as Montgomery, put in the effort and you could see him developing.

As for the rest, I think the Skolnitsky and Shelton signings surprised me the most. Daniel not being a slam dunk is interesting. I guess if no other team shows interest, why should the Redskins?

I too noticed that DT jumps on every catch which allows the defender to close what little seperation he had and delivery the hit but compare our WR's to last season's WR's and the big difference is our young guys for the most part showed what they can do with the first team offense. And far as Dixon if he was any good he would've got drafted i mean he came from Da U (University of Miami) so that says alot and he had the chance to beat out Monty or Golston so I say good luck wit him Philly

chasgif.. Yes! drop a dime to Vinny...

Tony Pashos was just released by the Jags who have one of the most talented overloaded OLines in the NFL. Pashos would start for the Skins...

The Jags scout OLine players very well and along with Pashos just cut two 1st year players.. center Cecil Newton, and guard Cameron Stephenson.. who were up against some formidable competition. ..

Hopefully Vinny isnt tied up playing racquetball with Danny and will jump on one of these cuts on the waiver wire..

If he doesnt, it'll be interesting to see the sharpest GMs that eventually grabs them.. Most likely Pashos will be snapped up (unless an unknown injury)..

Holmes = definitely a good choice, showed a lot of flash at times, good closer, hard tackler. Although it looked like he got beat on coverage that of course is harder to learn for a rookie and he looks to me like he could challenge Moore next year

Jackson = To me he looked better in preseason last year compared with this year, but I definitely saw him get to the QB at least once against Jacksonville for a half a sack or at least to mop up. So he can have his moments as a backup DE.

Shelton = Route running and catches looked good agains Jacksonville. Otherwise that is all I saw.

Skolnitsky = I have no clue, his number never popped up that I could see.

Williams = Looked finally like he was starting to get it against Jacksonville. Showed he could catch the ball and put his head down and get a few more yards.

Oh, and re: 3 QBs, you don't set a team based on the likelihood of both your starter and backup getting injured during the same game. We can always sign Chase off the p-squad of the Saints if we need him.

You have to wonder if the team is on the lookout for another quarterback-- J Garcia, maybe?--because I can't see Campbell staying upright and healthy all season.

And it makes you wonder: if Campbell and Collins can't get it done this year, who'll be drafted at quarterback next spring?

The leading candidate--Bradford--is hurt.

They don't both have to get injured in the same game for us to be screwed. If they get injured just even weeks apart we'll be screwed as it takes a lot of time for a new QB to learn the system. Also with Chase being on NO's practice squad, one injury to Brees and he'll be on the roster. I just think the Skins are taking a big gamble here.

What gamble? Colt was last year's third string QB.....how often did he play? In 2007, how often did the 3rd string QB play? How about 2006? 2005?

Exactly...and if it somehow came down to it, I don't want Chase Daniel(no s) being this team's starting QB. Why should he? Because he threw a couple of garbage preseason touchdowns??

Some people really need to grip the reality that what happens in the preseason statistically means absolutely nothing. That is why Marcus Mason is a retread RB, the reason Colt Brennan would still be the 3rd string QB going into this season, and the reason that Chase Daniel(no s) was picked up to be on the Saints practice squad.

Not that I'm condoning picking him up, but I'd rather have Jeff Garcia QB this team before Chase. Jeff Garcia knows the West coast offense and (gasp), he actually has played QB against first and second team defenses. The only thing close to a defense Chase went up against was the Jags D....he didn't do that well and the Jags defense is garbage. They were so bad they bought Grilliams a one way ticket out of town.

I know it hurts, but these people that are making football decisions are smarter than us, know more football than we ever will, and have a MUCH better eye for talent than everyone on here combined.

I would love to see how this team would do with Chase Daniel(no s) as the QB, Marcus Mason as the starting RB, and Marko Mitchell and Billy McMullen(yeah, you dopes thought he was great too....he's not even in the league anymore!!!) as the starting WR. 0-16 anyone?

Colt v. Chase v. fan's perceptions

"I wonder how long until Colt jerseys start selling for the "Jason Taylor" discount price. He sucked anyway."

To be honest, maybe our perceptions about Chase and Colt sucked, too.

Both quarterbacks are throwbacks in a sense that their style of play reflects their lack of physical size and not because of it.

Zorn added them because he looked at college tape of them playing and saw himself--undersized, spunky, and non-prototypical.

Thing is, in the pro game, size and ability--and not hopeful fan perception--does matter.

Chase and Colt are gone, and there's nothing left to say about them.

Let's move on.

MistaMoe, I'm over them. Moving on.

Time for the Giants!!

Hopefully will add some wrinkles to our O by December or Chase's memory will dim.

Plus unless Zorn is a dummy, they gave Chase the "Intro to the Skins O" playbook, not the 700 page job that Jason and Todd use.

Chase will be running all the opposing teams offenses every week anyway, he'll be so turned around by december it won't be an issue.

And it makes you wonder: if Campbell and Collins can't get it done this year, who'll be drafted at quarterback next spring?

The leading candidate--Bradford--is hurt.

While no injury is to be trifled with, his injury is not season ending or career threatening as far as I can tell. They are saying he will be back in 3-4 wks.

Dude, how do you do it?

I think to myself "What would Cork write here?"

Leave me out of this. At least until you get better writers.

From ESPN: "Steelers' Parker faces new role, shared carries."

There just isn't any justice in the NFL. For some teams - like the Steelers, the Phins, the Giants, etc. - their cup runneth over at RB. For us, we have Portis, Betts and Mason.

It's amazing how many people can watch Campbell, Collins, Brennan, and Daniels play and be talking about Brennan and Daniels.

Didn't you notice what Collins did given a chance to start and didn't you notice how quickly Collins won the #2 spot??

Brennan and Daniels weren't even close to Collins for #2

Campbell's arm strength alone makes him the clear #1, again there was no competition for this slot.

yes they tried to get Sanchez and Cutler, but remember who "THEY" are.

I'll tell you what would be something. Barno hayrolling with Tila Tequila in the Barno family barn and then running like hell for the hills when the Shawnster finds out about it.

Boy I don't understand a word you just said.
