Haynesworth uncertain of status for Sunday

Pro Bowl defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth was disappointed about missing Sunday's 7-6 loss to the Dallas Cowboys because of an ankle injury. But Haynesworth was pleased with how well the defense played -- the defensive line in particular.

"I knew they were going to step up and play," he said. "I knew they were going to do that."

Haynesworth said he was not sure about his status for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. "It could be lot better," Haynesworth said of his ankle. "It could be a lot worse."

Despite being 3-7, the Redskins must stay focused and play for pride at this point, Haynesworth said. "As long as we keep working, as long as we don't hold our heads down, we'll be fine," he said.

I'm not saying we should draft a safety but if we did draft Taylor Mays, I wouldn't be upset. He's the best player in next year's draft.
The only reason to not take an O lineman in the 1st round is if there is a game changing player there that is too good to pass up.
IMO, that's what Mays is.

My sentiments exactly…..take OL 1st, but if you think you can still get a top round OL in the 2nd, Taylor Mays might be too good to not draft. He’s a Sean Taylor clone…..I wouldn't scream bloody murder for not taking an OL ONLY if they took mays. But if they passed on OL with the 2nd pick I would be rather upset.

So...what players are the Skins gonna bring in tomorrow to try out?

Who are we gonna take off of other teams practice squads to get a head start on next years draft?

Or is the FO just gonna phone it in again...

Posted by: edvar | November 23, 2009 12:21 PM | Report abuse

I say draft Russell Okung AND Ciron Black AND a C/G next draft.

Also, I'm curious to see if they bring in Mason-- if he does well, could he be the answer for next year until we get to 2011 to deal with RB?

We played scared football and have for years.

The game SHOULD have been won on the 3rd and 2. Thats two down territory right there for any other team in the league.

Any creativity would have gotten two yards there... instead we run straight into the line.

Why is a pitch/bootleg/quick slant not even in our playbook???

Just looking for moments of adequacy at this point. Come February, we'll be pining away for even that.

Moe says, list the offensive linemen the Wizards of Redskins Park have taken in the top rounds in the space provided:

AGAIN, Moe, FORGET Spiller! Forget a QB Moe. Did you see what happened to Betts? That's what's in store for Spiller unless the blocking and protection is shored up. Otherwise, Moe still sounds like Snyderato. Draft lots of OL, then sign free agent/trade for running backs and QBs. See Terry Allen, John Riggins, Ernest Byner, just to name a few.

a. Russ Grimm HOF 3rd round 1981

b. Mark May 1st round 1981

c. Donny Warren 4th round, 1980

d. Chris Samuels 1st round.

e. Tre Johnson 3rd round.

f. Andre Johnson 1st round.

That is why they need to practice today, and go extra hard while practicing.

Do they always have Mondays off? If they do, especially the way this season has been going, it's just one of the many things wrong with this team.

Agreed. What frustrates me more, though, is that they can’t audible at all. Not like there would be any time to call one though; they never seem to get to the line until the playclock is down to 9 seconds every play.

Let's see him at right guard for the rest of the season. Maybe he will be the solution there. Then we can take 2 tackles in the first 2 rounds of the draft. That would give us a line of:

Levi Jones
Derrick Dockery
Casey Rabach
BMW
Round 1 New guy (hopefully Russell Okung)

Backups New guy #2 (hopefull Ciron Black or Trent Williams). Chad Rhinehart, and Edwin Williams.

Then draft a RB in the 4th. The fourth should be loaded for RBs.

Then in the 5th look for some players that may have fallen like:

Sergio Render, LeGarrett Blount, Lemarcus Coker, Navarro Bowmen, Sergio Render, Jon Jerry, etc.

7th rounder take a flyer on good athlete from small school with great measurables.

Zorn sounds really down giving the injury report (and with good reason).

Rinehart having surgery right now....Ladell may have surgery. Cooley in the boot for at least another 10 days.

Deangelo Hall has a sprained need and will be out for at least a week.

This is dire.

Zorny....Rhino surgery, onto IR.

Betts...torn ACL, MCL, but not going to IR him today [ed. note: HUH?!]

Eddie Williams [ed. note: Who?]...surgery, onto IR.

DHall...sprained something, probably out for a week.

Cooley...in walking boot another 10 days. [ed. note: IR the mofo already!].

Portis...out this Sunday, and question if he'll play against Saints as well. [ed. note: same as w/ Cooley for him]

Mike Williams...may be back, if so....probably at right guard.

Monday's are supposed to be only off when they win. According to Campbell, they won't be practicing ubtil Wednesday. I'm sure they'll practice Thanksgiving morn as well....

They couldn't practice any way with just 2 healthy RBs. Mason and Aldridge will def be brought back....

Next season will be the season of redemption for this team. This year is just the lost (hopefully forgotten) season...

Betts to IR
Rinehart to IR, in surgery right now.
Cooley still no weight-bearing on the ankle, "not good news for me".

Al H limited, hoping to get into practice this week
BMW hoping to get into practice this week
CP out this week, questionable for next week at this point.

4. Let said VP of FO hire a GM
5. Let said VP of FO and GM clear out the staff; Zorn first, Danny Smith second.
5. Let said VP of FO drop Portis, Samuels, Thomas, & even ARE.
6. Let said VP of FO & GM hire a coach who understands how to pound the rock.
7. Let said VP of FO, GM, & coach find a pair of road graders in draft or FA.
8. Let said VP of FO, GM, & coach draft a RB.
9. Let said VP of FO, GM, & coach obtain a strong-side LB so Orakpo can move to DE at will.
10. Let said VP of FO, GM, & coach put their collective foot up Snydely's rear if he tries to go after Sam Bradford.

On the Jim Zorn Show last Saturday, Zorn was asked about Barnes. He said Barnes is working hard and making progress but he does not anticipate playing him anytime soon. Things may differ now.

RB note: Zorn plans to bring back Marcus Mason - if Mason is interested.

Why is a pitch/bootleg/quick slant not even in our playbook???

Posted by: Rypien11

I've seen them throw the slant a few times but really wasn't a play they could rely on. Although in the past it was either Moss or ARE running over the middle. Now that Thomas and Kelly are healthy I'd run that route with either of them at least five times a game.

The bootleg? HAHAHA You have to have athletic guards to do that. Right now it's a revolving door at RG, and when Dockery was here in his first go round, Randy Thomas was the only pulling guard on the team. You also have to have a QB and RB that can sell the fake hand off. You think any of the QBs and RBs are capable of doing that?

A pitch? Well, for so fat this season one of the tackles was Stephon Heyer. Judging how he got absolutely mauled on that stretch play in Carolina, I wouldn't recommend them running toss plays. Also a good majority of the season the other tackle has been Mike Williams. Real slow dude.

Samuels and Jansen were perfect tackles for toss plays.

With every disgusting, putrid loss, the Skins edge closer to being able to acquire a top OT in the draft. Hard to believe the Raiders have 3 wins, and it looks like the only other team guaranteed to pick before the Skins at this point is Cleveland. And who knows who they might pick, it could go from WR to DT to OL.

Can we stop holding a spot for Cooley now. By the time he gets in football shape this team could be 3-10. What's the point? Enough already. They need these spots for players who are able to practice and contribute in the games. Portis/Beets/Cooley/Rinehart all should go on IR.

In retrospect, they should have run a fake on that last 50-yard FG attempt. It was 4th & 4 on the Dallas 32.

Trust Hunter Smith to get the 4 yards. He has been their most consistent offensive weapon this season, so why not.

I'm against taking a safety, but if they could trade back from their soon to be top 8 pick and still address the OL then the safety to take would be Eric Berry from Tenn. This would allow Landry to move to SS and then Berry would play FS.

If you mean height...

You DO know Cartwright is LISTED at 5'8", and Ganther towers in at a listed 5'9"...and we all know how accurate NFL height listings are, right?

I mean, if Percy Harvin is 6'0"...so am I, and believe me, I'm SOOOO not even close...

; )

Now if you mean bodies, yes, but Devin Thomas will be in the SPT mix, and if you throw in either Ganther or bring back an Aldridge and/or a Dorsey, boom you're back to full strength bodies wise on teams.
