Jarmon Signs

Jeremy Jarmon, the Redskins' pick in the July 16 supplemental draft, has signed with the team. Terms of the deal were not announced. This leaves only Brian Orakpo unsigned, with less than 48 hours to go before the first practice of training camp.

Washington selected Jarmon, a defensive end out of Kentucky, in the third round and now does not have a third-round pick in 2010. Jarmon entered the draft after testing positive for a banned supplement in February and losing his final year of eligibility following an appeal in May.

Jarmon announced the deal on Twitter, tweeting:

@DoubleJJ99 Just signed with the Redskins! Let's get going!!!

In relevant Antonio Pierce news, he is going to be indicted on the same charges as Plaxico...

They prob won't prosecute if he snitches. Hopefully this won't be too much of a dilmnea for him when thinking, 'To Snitch or Not to Snitch, That is the Question'...........

That's why I go with the Sean Taylor jersey. It's immortalized and will never be unwearable. Plus it saves money on having to recycle jerseys every time a your current guy leaves (or starts sucking).

Posted by: psps23 | July 28, 2009 2:36 PM | Report abuse

rickyroge,

Laverneus is the reason I'll never buy another current player's jersey again. I bought that right after he signed his 7 year deal. Last year I got $10 for it at a yard sale.

I currently roll sans jersey but if I ever take the plunge again, it's Throwback only.

Good job getting JJ signed. Now, wouldn't it be great if Orakpo was signed before the start of camp as well?

There seem to be a lot of rumors floating around about Vick coming to Washington. I can't see it happening. I could see Jacksonville. I could see Tampa because they collect quarterbacks - it's like a hobby down there. I could see Cincy because they have a thing for criminal records...

I only get Jerseys of important Redskins who meant something.

Portis
Cooley
ARRINGTON!!

If they end up somewhere else, that's ok - they were great players for us and I'm proud to wear their Skins likeness.

There is one Jersey I will not wear, but only 'cause of the creep-out experience I had w/ it. Catching the train to NYC the day after ST was shot - some guy is going through Union Station with the BLACK 21 ST JERSEY... looked like the damn Reaper!! Prophetic and scary as hell in that under-lit tomb!!

I can't buy jerseys anymore, it's bad luck.
Here's my rundown
1.Clinton Portis jersey bought in 06-shoulder injury in preseason
2.Sean Taylor in 07- shot and killed
3.Jason Taylor in 08- we know how that went

I refuse to buy Haynesworth or anyone else ever, I only rock the Sean Taylor now, and occasionally the throwback Theismann

fwiw, I'm fine with the Jarmon pick, seems he has decent potential.

But I'm a bit bugged by the fact that the Skins let Evans go -- who plays the same spot as Jarmon. Evans is proven pro and not expensive. A 3rd round DE isn't close to a lock to be a good pro. Evans has 3-4 good years left. Why not re-sign the vet that you know can contribute?

The other part that goes with this is that the Skins didn't spend the $$ on Albert and Hall just to rebuild. It is a 'win-now' mentality. Fletcher, Portis, Samuels, Thomas and Moss are among the Skins that could be gone or significantly less effective within 1-2 seasons. If you want to win now, you keep the vet that you know can contribute.

You may still draft Jarmon for the future and see if he can displace a vet, but you keep the guy that performs while seeing if the youngster can replace him.

Posted by: pabrian2003 | July 28, 2009 1:36 PM |

Too bad about the dog, dude. I haven't seen anything in the media about where us cats stand on the Vick issue but I can tell you that from this cat's perspective it's a claw down. Now in general you are not going to get any sympathy from me when the subject is dogs but this is different. For me, animal cruelty trumps caninephobia. I wouldn't wish what he did on any dog. And the thing is, if Vick isn't properly demonized for what he did to dogs then at some point someone will start doing it to us cats, that's for sure.

Posted by: chrislarry | July 28, 2009 3:37 PM | Report abuse

Here are my rules that I believe in for proper jersey purchasing and wearing.

1. Thou Shall not purchase a player jersey in their first season with the team or you shall be viewed as bandwagoning. Generally you should wait for a player to be on a team for 3-4 seasons.

2. Thou shall hold the drafted star in higher regard then the free agent.

3. During the season you can wear your teams jersey on game day or during the week after a victory, you are not allowed to do so after a loss.

4. Wearing a jersey in the off season is generally poor taste. Unless you are at a sporting event featuring a team from the same city and don't own any fan gear for that sport. You are not allowed to wear a jersey to an event that is a different sport, and neither team comes from the city that your jersey represents. IE Steelers fans at a Nationals v Atlanta game.

5. Pro-Bowl Jersey's make you look like a retard, unless its one of the Sean Taylor jerseys because he got in even after being dead.

6. If you have never lived in or around a city, you are not qualified to wear that teams colors.

7. You cannot buy a alternate jersey unless you have purchased at least 1 regular jersey, this does not apply to throwbacks with ex-players names.

8. Though not a rule, its always good form to wear the same jersey that the team is wearing game day, if they are in whites, you should try to be.

9. F the Cowboys.

Posted by: alex35332 | July 28, 2009 3:43 PM | Report abuse

To localize my point. You have a water balloon, you see a guy wearing a custom jersey with his name on it and a guy with a Jason Taylor Redskins jersey, who you gonna throw it at?

custom jersey

accentuate the point, by replacing the water balloon with an orange, and by not throwing it, but using a water balloon cannon......go big or go home..

Please, a fan in a custom jersey probably contributed more then Jason Taylor did last year. Well not counting D-Hall.

Gotta shout out for a clever game jersey that saw someone wearing at FedEx once.

Standard Burgundy Skins Jersey

Name Placard: "Snyder"

Number: "$$"

Customizing a Jersey with your name is the ultimate Rube-move..."look at me look at me"

P1
That was Snyder.

CL
I disagree, buying the big name jersey every 2 years is a bigger rube move.

Posted by: alex35332 | July 28, 2009 3:56 PM | Report abuse

To localize my point. You have a water balloon, you see a guy wearing a custom jersey with his name on it and a guy with a Jason Taylor Redskins jersey, who you gonna throw it at?

I have to admit last year I bought I 55 Jason Taylor. I had a lapse in judgement and ended up giving it away. It was bad luck, like building your house on an Indian burial ground. I would not be mad at you for hitting me with a water balloon. I will have to get that Fletcher though.

If he had the stones to roll that way and mull around with us peasants at FedEx, I would actually have to give him props...

I am surprised we have never seen Dan Snyder in a custom jersey. I wonder if there are rules about that? Does any owner wear their own jersey?

Posted by: alex35332 | July 28, 2009 4:00 PM | Report abuse

moe, fyi......

Might the Red Sox be players in the Roy Halladay sweepstakes after all?

Old friend Gordon Edes of Yahoo! Sports this afternoon reported that the Red Sox offered at least three players -- pitchers Clay Buchholz and Michael Bowden and outfielder Ryan Westmoreland -- to the Blue Jays for Halladay, according to an unnamed source

Posted by: BeantownGreg1 | July 28, 2009 4:06 PM | Report abuse

Sorry Alex,

Something about "Applebaum" on the back of a 2-6 jersey doesn't appear manly.

I have a Lavar and bought my dad a Cooley. I believe I have abided by 8 of the 9 rules (#8 is tough one).

I would love to get a Sellers jersey but I can't bring myself to give Snyder anymore money than I already have.

I wonder if anyone bought a Danny Wuerffel jersey in the golden years of Spurrier's regime.

Posted by: Moose33 | July 28, 2009 4:12 PM | Report abuse

But, cL: If Cooley is a beast, and not marginal, then what other reason is there for not wearing his jersey, other than not wanting to be associated with an alleged subgroup of people whom you find distasteful, if not a fear of what other people will think? I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you would know your own motivations for wearing a Cooley jersey, and wouldn't somehow trick yourself into thinking you're a racist, if that's what the others really are.

I'm not trying to bust your balls here, really. (I like you.) I just don't see the logic in it.

love the "stuff that white people like" list. gotta agree with #1... I like some of that stuff also, but I wouldn't call myself white though...

not by any means, no disrespect to white people, or the wannabe white, OR more appropriately "wiggers".

HA!

also, if you do wear a jersey, wear a Mitchell & Ness throwback. You don't have to pay the price they ask for online or at their store -- if you know the people to holla at. trust, they're real too!

Posted by: RedDMV | July 28, 2009 4:35 PM | Report abuse

I went about 30% or so on the white people list.

Seriously, white people like lawyers and divorce? That's sick.

Most amusing was black music that black people don't listen to anymore. I'm so old school on my music that I go too far back!!

And yes, there were plenty of people, of all races at Earth Wind and Fire the other night. EWF is not just for white people anymore.

4th, of all the peeps up here, I knew you would dig that site.

On Skins merchandise in general, I still have a hard time throwing my precious nickels on the counter and into The Owner's pocket for the same reason I cringe at $12 movie tickets and $65 (or more) concert tickets. The markup on my entertainment has so outpaced inflation ... the cost increases for luxury entertainment have outpaced inflation at rates faster than the cost of healthcare and education combined. I hate it.

That said, the only jersey I ever considered would been Tyer #911, but he's already been canned.

The only one I can even conceive is one they won't sell because its the only one that won't be cut or traded. Synder. #1.

Watching the First48 and rooting for or against the police detectives depending on the reason for the murder. If it was an innocent bystander or old lady that was killed, everyone wants the perpertrator to be caught. If it was between two beefing groups or drug-turf related or the dead person deserved it, you are rooting for the killer not to get caught.....

4Th your list is making me feel a bit less self-conscience for liking Farmers Markets and indie rock....

Posted by: chrislarry | July 28, 2009 4:55 PM | Report abuse

I could go on, but I am not as witty as most up here. I would have to take a whole week off to do that!

Cl - Nothing wrong with either in my eyes. Farmer's Markets just don't pop up in my head often. And Indie Rock to me is very simialr to Go Go Music, which I listen to faithfully...

Side note - Sween - Coming out of the garage yesterday I had my music (GoGO) playing a little to loud when you know who happened to walk by and I cringed! But that's just a normal reaction, was no biggie at the end...

24 sacks for skins D in 2008.
36 in 2009 is a nice soft goal.

13 tds for JC in 2008.
I think 18 would be a nice starting goal for 2009.

Both a very doable.

Reach goals: 23tds and 48 sacks.

I found this on the Skins blog (Matt Terl on Skins site) ... its a very recent Q & A with Zorn:

Q: In looking at your past history as a quarterbacks coach in Seattle, Matt Hasselbeck in his second year in this offense made a good, solid jump in terms of production. Can Jason Campbell do the same?

A: "Yes, I do think so. Matt really came on in his third, fourth and fifth years, when he became an All-Pro, but his first year in this offense [in 2001] he actually lost his starting position to Trent Dilfer. Matt would go on to get his position back after Trent tore his Achilles.

"Once Matt got his job back, he just took off. He began to discipline himself much the way Jason is trying to discipline himself now.

"This offense is not a mystery. We call it the West Coast offense, but when you look at teams around the league, they run many of the same plays. A lot of people say, 'The West Coast offense is a short passing game.' Well, every NFL team throws short passes. Everybody checks the ball down to running backs. That's how you move the ball.

"But we take our shots, too. We extend the field vertically. We have the routes that most teams have--and others they don't. It's a matter of when to utilize those routes and it's the ability of your receivers to execute the play. That's what makes the offense go.

"In the West Coast scheme, the mystique is how you install it, how you get it across to the team and how fast you can run it.

"We really try to push the envelope with our tempo. The multiple personnel groups, the idea that you don't repeat plays very often and that you can just keep pushing and mixing--I think those are the elements that make our offense pretty sound and unique."

Sad Day in the NFC East. I wouldn't wish anyone to go through this. I would rather see dude alive a coaching his a$$ against us....

Sadly, Jim Johnson's fight nearing end
Former Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson is said to be near the end of his courageous battle with melanoma.

Johnson, 68, took another turn for the worse recently according to sources and the muffled talk at Eagles training camp Tuesday morning was he was fighting to stay alive.

Head coach Andy Reid visited Johnson Monday night according to a source.

Johnson stepped aside as defensive coordinator after 10-plus years last week, enabling protege Sean McDermott to take over the job for the start of training camp.

Johnson has been unable to coach since the early May minicamp due to the melanoma that sapped his strength and compounded the pain from a lower back condition.

Johnson, nonetheless, coached that entire camp from the seat of a scooter that got him around the practice field.
