Portis Is a 'Go' to Play; the Inactive List

Clinton Portis will indeed play today. His status had been a game-time decision because of an injured calf as well as bone spurs.

The Redskins' inactive players are Marko Mitchell, Kevin Barnes, Anthony Alridge, Edwin Williams, Robert Henson, D'Antony Batiste and Renaldo Wynn.

The Buccaneers' inactives are Byron Leftwich, Derrick Ward, Marcus Hamilton, Jeff Faine, Marc Dile, Demar Dotson, Dre Moore and Kyle Moore.

Portis has been by far the Redskins leading rusher this season with 183 yards. The next highest running back total has been generated by Ladell Betts, who's carried 7 times for 14 yards.

Our top rusher has an average of 61 yards a game. Pathetic!

Don't know how this could have been psted at 11:12. I refreshed 3 or 4 times since then, and this did not show up.

Looks like another week to see if the old farts can produce. Younger guys better be ready next week, their time is coming. Don't see anything different happening with the same starters from middle last year.

This is yet another reason we need a new head coach. His ability to make key decisions is poor at best. Why play a player who is not really producing and can not practice. Why not give the young guy a shot? Also, our corners are not pro bowl quality including D Hall whom I love, give the young Barns a shot he can not do any worse then Rogers who needs to be cut. Then we have Mitchell, our receivers have not really had a knack for the ball this year but Mitchell has and showed the ability to make big play why not give him a shot.

ESPN Sunday Countdown took a break from talking about Dallas and actually did a segment on the 'Skins.

It basically just summed up what we already know:
SNYDER is to blame for our problems... but if he would just get a real GM (cough FIRE VINNY cough) we will have a real chance for success.

Clearly, ESPN will go a Captain Obvious for Halloween this year.

Wow. Tampa is going in without Byron L. - at least we don't have to worry about him coming in and burning us like he did when he was with Pitts.

Bucs have a decent o-line.... Jeff Faine and Ward out are blows to an already terrible offense.
Haynesworth dominates today.
Tampa now only has their quarterback who can run outside the tackles.

I'm expecting a big game today!

Posted by: RedCherokee | October 4, 2009 12:19 PM | Report abuse

Last week, people were saying that if we lost that game then Zorn had to go. I disagree...THIS week if they lose Zorn has to go, there just is no way around it. After being disrespected last season and the Lions getting picked to beat them..you would think they would play hard. ESPECIALLY after struggling with the Rams. We saw how that turned out...so if after becoming the laughingstock of the entire sports media for a week, if they lay down and play like they have the last two weeks, it's over. If they can't respond to that then this team is DEAD. No heart, and there is nothing that anyone can do or say to save them. Even a win like the one over St. Louis isn't enough.

Zorn nudges toward unemployment
Posted by Mike Florio on October 4, 2009 12:15 PM ET
Last week's failure against the previously 0-19 Detroit Lions wasn't enough to get Redskins coach Jim Zorn fired.

Yet.

Adam Schefter of ESPN, citing multiple unnamed sources, reports that it's now not a matter of if but when, when it comes to the end of Zorn's tenure with the team.

Per Schefter, barring a trip to the playoffs and at least one win, Zorn most likely will be out.

In the next three weeks, the Redskins face teams that currently are a combined 0-9. So we still think there's a chance that owner Daniel Snyder will say farewell to Zorn during the bye week, if the 'Skins fail to scalp the Bucs, Panthers, and Chiefs -- or if they win only one of the three and then crap out on Monday Night Football against the Eagles to enter the off week.

And if Zorn realizes that his butt is on the line, the question becomes whether he'll bench quarterback Jason Campbell in the hopes that veteran Todd Collins will be able to save the season -- along with the skin on Zorn's rear end.

quit blaming an owner that brings it every offseason and just doesn't sit back and tries to improve this team. Would u rather be a CLEVELAND BROWNS FAN?!?! Look at that squad's GM/front office that does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to improve year after year. Dan Snyder can buy the parts but he can not play. If ur PO'd, start showing it at the games by booing and quit showing ur front teeth when tryin to get a players autograph. Players need to produce.

Funny. I expect JC to scramble a little more than usual since his ankle has healed. The players will be fired up today because they do not want a repeat from the Rams game with the fans booing. It's a great day weather-wise and I expect the Redskins defense to dominate. When you follow the events surrounding the Redskins closely, you'll know what to expect.

When Gibbs left, the buzzword was "continuity". How would things be different if Double G was coaching here, instead of being honored with game balls by the Saints?

If Zorn leaves, any thoughts on what the theme will be for the new hire? I can't help thinking this team could really use some of that Marty S discipline.

If you want Mr. Snyder's attention, we the fans should protest the name and I guarantee you he will hire a GM tomorrow along with a respectable coach that will get the team winning again so we can forget how offensive the team name is.

Looks like the Bucs watched cable last week.. NFL tv or espn 2 (cant remember who) showed JC's eyes not moving from his primary on a 3rd passing down. One read...no progression as we all know..yada yada..
The Bucs D seems to be mirroring JC well on passing downs and watching his eyes.. He telegraphs.. Sooooo a lot of tipped balls today.. One so far..
JC should pop in a colored visor for his helmet during halftime.. to hide his field scanning from the LBs...like Portis has.

Apparently, he's taking risks today.

Posted by: Alan4 | October 4, 2009 1:44 PM | Report abuse

When will you all understand? This is not a very well coached team on offense. You can in Collins if you like, we'll get the same results. The Bucs are playing for alll the throws to go 10-15 yards. I'm sick of it.

Posted by: TWISI | October 4, 2009 1:44 PM | Report abuse

cause the one that is doubled was probably the primary receiver and JC doesnt have the release speed to go to a second progression or check down. So he throws the ball to the primary receiver regardless of coverage...
Ummmm 31 GMs wouldnt trade a better than a 3rd round pick for him.. smart, very smart..

Jason "it aint me" Campbell texted me to say that the interceptions are actually Zorn calls and he didn't have a choice. He is also instructed to throw into double and triple coverage and to never look away from the intended receiver, cause you do not want to fool the defense. LOL

Mr Redskin, i agree it was JC's fault. but is that a call you make in that situation? it's 3rd and 2, and our downhill running has been decent. a play action would have been ideal there.

Posted by: byThorbyOdin | October 4, 2009 2:04 PM | Report abuse

The only reason the Redskins are still in this game is because Tampa's offense is only slightly better than Washington's.

If the Skins were playing the Saints, it would be 21-0 or 28-0 right now.

Posted by: MrRedskin21 | October 4, 2009 2:05 PM | Report abuse

JC is 3-9 for 37 yards, two picks, and a lost fumble. If he doesn't get on track in this next drive, he needs to polish the bench with his keister while Collins tries to salvage something. Then we'll get a better idea if it's Zorn's play-calling, Campbell's ineptitude, or both. At least Little Lord Danny would have a better idea who to fire Monday morning.

Yep and the brilliant minds of this organization decided to cut Chase Daniel. Well if you want to see an exciting offence watch the Lions. They're staying step for step with Cutler and the Bears.

When the opposing rookie quarterback, starting his first game NFL.,,,Reaches down to help up your 100 million dollar defensive tackle up off the turf.

Well that pretty much says it all !

i believe our best play today is the stretch to the left where portis falls down when he hits the line of scrimmage.

I don't know that i've ever seen an offense so bad against the 3 worst teams in the league. We didn't score a TD against STL, we get 2 against DET and we don't have one yet against TB. Snyder has more patience then I would at this point.

JC is terrible. Zorn just doesnt want to admit he couldnt turn him into a solid QB. I doubt we see Collins
