Portis, Rogers, Fletcher Also Out (Updated)

Although the Redskins plan to use their first-team offense and defense for at least a series, there was plenty of roster shuffling before the game.

The team listed five scratches: defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth did not make the trip to Jacksonville and Kedric Golston was scheduled to start in his place; H.B. Blades was starting in place of middle linebacker London Fletcher; cornerback Fred Smoot replaced Carlos Rogers; right guard Randy Thomas gets the night off and he's replaced by second-year guard Chad Rinehart; and Ladell Betts starts in place of Clinton Portis.

In addition, the team reported two other changes to the starting lineup -- Renaldo Wynn in Phillip Daniels' defensive end spot and Malcolm Kelly in place of Antwaan Randle El -- but both Daniels and Randle El are active for the game and are expected to see action.

Question, did Albert get the flu from getting too close to Tom Brady?

Posted by: zcezcest1 | September 3, 2009 6:10 PM | Report abuse

The score is unimportant.

He who makes the plays tonight, makes the team.

And that is all there is to it.

Posted by: _Stumped_ | September 3, 2009 6:11 PM | Report abuse

Have to wonder if Rogers is on the trading block ...

Reportedly, the over/under and the number of times Sam Huff pronounces Orakpo's name correctly is:

MIKE WILLIAMS better show up. To say this game is important to him personally and the team as a whole is.....well, it's IMPORTANT. Hopefully, the management has been scouting potential OT culls or mimimum wage players available for a low round pick. No need to be caught with our collective pants down if MIKE has to be carted out of the playing area during the game tonight.

Awesome. Keep these comments coming. Let's get as many as possible on the record. You think we're going to suck this year, say so. You think we're going to be mediocre, let it be known. Good season? Put it down. Great season, let's hear it.

Hey Bartender, I'll have whatever he's having.

/
As usual, Barno is having kool-aid. Let's stick to the 9-7 ish range - unless this is the 1st team in NFL history to not lose 2-3 starters to injury this year.

Posted by: zornskins2 | September 3, 2009 6:36 PM | Report abuse

Thanks Curzon417 for the link!

Posted by: brianlee720 | September 3, 2009 6:39 PM | Report abuse

Ok I will be on record

I think we have the potential to be on either end of a 10/6 season

10/6 if jc can throw 20 plus tds and defense vastly improves it's big play potential

6/10 if oline breaks down and hall is a bust

if we get to playoffs we get to NFC champ game. If 6/10 say hello to coach gruden

Posted by: chrislarry | September 3, 2009 6:42 PM | Report abuse

What was the last team to go from worst to 1st in the NFC East? Was it the Eagles like 10 years ago?

Posted by: zornskins2 | September 3, 2009 6:44 PM | Report abuse

Curzon... got a warning from Macafee that the website you linked to was trying to do some jujistu with my PC...

Posted by: carocanesfan | September 3, 2009 6:45 PM | Report abuse

this offseason seems to have lasted wayyyyyy too long. 10 days til we FINALLY get the show on the road. Can't wait

Posted by: chrislarry | September 3, 2009 6:42 PM |

Why do you think it's Gruden? He's a tough nut and would bring some discipline to a too-relaxed team, but most of the chatta says Shanahan. I would prefer Gruden and, cl, I would not be disapointed in Your Boy ended up as head coach.

Posted by: talent_evaluator | September 3, 2009 6:49 PM | Report abuse

Have not had any problems over the last two weeks with that site Carocanesfan. I also use Macafee.

Posted by: Curzon417 | September 3, 2009 6:49 PM | Report abuse

That actually would be Coach Shanahan if its a 6/10 season... Or if we're lucky Coach Cower....

But I think (maybe it's just a hope) that Jzorn will pull it off this year...

Posted by: carocanesfan | September 3, 2009 6:50 PM | Report abuse

The lions and the bills game on that site has some funky colors blocking the game - hopefully the skins won't be. Maybe because it is the Lions

Fletcher had an injection in his foot, just as he did a year ago. Zorn says he's fine.

Hey, they'll all be wearing burgundy and gold. You don't even need to know who's inside the suits. Plus you can watch Colt and Chase. HTTR, etc.

Posted by: talent_evaluator | September 3, 2009 7:14 PM | Report abuse

Barno,
I think we will be much improved over last year. If I just look at the team through rose colored glasses, I see what you see.

Defense: Will have big play potential it didn't have last year and be ranked in the top ten (probably not as high as fourth).

Offense: Improved over last year, much more versatile attack, but will still be inconsistent and occasionally stall at inopportune times. An above average unit with room for improvement.

Teams: More consistent kicking and punting game, but in other ways Teams will continue to look like the pre-season unit well into the regular season.

Bottom line: 10 wins. We will earn a little respect and a shot at the playoffs, where anything could happen. In one more year we will be a force with which to be reckoned.

So let's self-medicate. Cheers!

Posted by: _Stumped_ | September 3, 2009 7:19 PM | Report abuse

I think perhaps Zorn not playing the starters in this game, using it to "weed out" the backups and special team types could prove to be his undoing. Guess that's how coaches live and learn.

Bad announcing on Comcast. Kickoff tackle made by 53. Had to look it up...Darrel Young.

o well, i don't think he was gonna make it anyway.

Posted by: rachel216 | September 3, 2009 7:48 PM | Report abuse

this has got to be the worst camera man EVER. He missed the first play and totally missed the fumble. Fire him!

Posted by: knight1977 | September 3, 2009 7:49 PM | Report abuse

Well say goodbye to the aldridge bandwagon...unaceptable.

Posted by: dealer1 | September 3, 2009 7:52 PM | Report abuse

Agree with this being the worst camera man EVER. He is lost on every other play.

Still like Aldridge over Rock. DT can return KO and Punts.

Darrel Young...nice opening KO tackle. Too bad Kenny Albert doesn't know enough to announce key things like the name of the guy on the bubble who just made a play.

Posted by: jm220 | September 3, 2009 7:55 PM | Report abuse

Campbell to Kelly...like the sound of that for the next few years.

Posted by: Curzon417 | September 3, 2009 7:57 PM | Report abuse

Well, I'm a little perturbed. I added the sports package on DirecTV yesterday, primarily to get Comcast SportsNet Washington. I watched Washington Post Live today, and then it was time for Redskins Nation...which was blacked out. Then the pregame show was blacked out. And, of course, the game is blacked out.

DTV says there's nothing they can do, which I guess is true. What kind of asinine broadcast rules are these? I'm going to inquire of the league and see if they'll explain their reasoning.

So I'm stuck watching the game online, something I thought I was through doing now that I have DTV & Sunday Ticket.

If I were to cancel the sports package within 30 days of signing up, it would actually cost more than keeping it, so I'll keep it for a month and see if there are any redeeming qualities. Hopefully I can get some Virginia games out of it.

Posted by: freakzilla | September 3, 2009 7:57 PM | Report abuse

Agreed. How unprofessional was that? We completely missed the first play, the camera didn't even move.

Posted by: rachel216 | September 3, 2009 7:57 PM | Report abuse

Is it me or does Kenny Albert sound like he is calling this game via CB radio?

Posted by: chrislarry | September 3, 2009 8:00 PM | Report abuse

Come on El. What a throw by JC

Posted by: jm220 | September 3, 2009 8:05 PM | Report abuse

Cut el!!!! he suckss!!! that was a fantastic throw by jc!!!

Posted by: rachel216 | September 3, 2009 8:05 PM | Report abuse

Marko Mitchell would have made that catch.

Posted by: talent_evaluator | September 3, 2009 8:05 PM | Report abuse

So the first team offense looked good in their only series. It should've ended with a TD because of Randle El. The yoder penalty was bad.... but good job JC.

Posted by: rachel216 | September 3, 2009 8:07 PM | Report abuse

JC looks good and HE HAS TIME TO THROW.

Nice B2B penalties by the 3/4 TEs LOL.

Posted by: SkinsfaninKaneohe | September 3, 2009 8:07 PM | Report abuse

can't cut are, but you can certainly keep him off of the field. should be seeing JC throwing to MK, DT and MM.

Posted by: Curzon417 | September 3, 2009 8:07 PM | Report abuse

talent_evaluator- you're right. el got alligator arms, he saw that guy was gonna hit him.

Posted by: rachel216 | September 3, 2009 8:08 PM | Report abuse

5-11, screw dealer, go lions go....

Posted by: BeantownGreg1 | September 3, 2009 8:10 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: Poopy_McPoop | September 3, 2009 8:10 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: talent_evaluator | September 3, 2009 8:10 PM | Report abuse

Dorsey

Posted by: Curzon417 | September 3, 2009 8:11 PM | Report abuse

F ARE

Posted by: chrislarry | September 3, 2009 8:11 PM | Report abuse

The entire state of Hawaii just went into angst overdrive because Chase is playing before Colt, LOL

Posted by: SkinsfaninKaneohe | September 3, 2009 8:11 PM | Report abuse

Yeah not good for Dorsey. He really looked like Randle El, running backwards, then left and right.

Posted by: rachel216 | September 3, 2009 8:12 PM | Report abuse

Last year the O-line opened great holes in the running game, but couldn't give JC two seconds to throw.

This year, so far, they're giving JC loads of time, but opening no holes for the RBs...

Posted by: JohnnyRyde | September 3, 2009 8:13 PM | Report abuse

Okay, Marko Mitchell wouldn't have made that catch.

Posted by: talent_evaluator | September 3, 2009 8:13 PM | Report abuse

Listening online 15 miles south of the Red River. Sam Huff just said Orakpo, the Longhorn, was from Oklahoma. Geez, I love listening to the Sonny and Sam show. For real.

Posted by: boothintexas | September 3, 2009 8:14 PM | Report abuse

AGNONE and ALRIDGE just played themselves off this team. Nothing "special" about DANO's teams so far. That last punt, not a white jersey within 15 yards of the punt returner. Stinker-o-o!!!! I see SMITH is still missing K. CAMPBELL and JAMES THRASH.

Posted by: glawrence007 | September 3, 2009 8:15 PM | Report abuse

He's the ultimate homer. If I weren't a Skins fan, he would probably drive me up the wall. But as it is, I love him.
