Portis, Rogers, Fletcher Also Out (Updated)
Although the Redskins plan to use their first-team offense and defense for at least a series, there was plenty of roster shuffling before the game.
The team listed five scratches: defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth did not make the trip to Jacksonville and Kedric Golston was scheduled to start in his place; H.B. Blades was starting in place of middle linebacker London Fletcher; cornerback Fred Smoot replaced Carlos Rogers; right guard Randy Thomas gets the night off and he's replaced by second-year guard Chad Rinehart; and Ladell Betts starts in place of Clinton Portis.
In addition, the team reported two other changes to the starting lineup -- Renaldo Wynn in Phillip Daniels' defensive end spot and Malcolm Kelly in place of Antwaan Randle El -- but both Daniels and Randle El are active for the game and are expected to see action.

Question, did Albert get the flu from getting too close to Tom Brady?
Posted by: zcezcest1 | September 3, 2009 6:10 PM | Report abuse
The score is unimportant.
He who makes the plays tonight, makes the team.
And that is all there is to it.

MIKE WILLIAMS better show up. To say this game is important to him personally and the team as a whole is.....well, it's IMPORTANT. Hopefully, the management has been scouting potential OT culls or mimimum wage players available for a low round pick. No need to be caught with our collective pants down if MIKE has to be carted out of the playing area during the game tonight.

As usual, Barno is having kool-aid. Let's stick to the 9-7 ish range - unless this is the 1st team in NFL history to not lose 2-3 starters to injury this year.

Ok I will be on record
I think we have the potential to be on either end of a 10/6 season
10/6 if jc can throw 20 plus tds and defense vastly improves it's big play potential
6/10 if oline breaks down and hall is a bust
if we get to playoffs we get to NFC champ game. If 6/10 say hello to coach gruden

Posted by: chrislarry | September 3, 2009 6:42 PM |
Why do you think it's Gruden? He's a tough nut and would bring some discipline to a too-relaxed team, but most of the chatta says Shanahan. I would prefer Gruden and, cl, I would not be disapointed in Your Boy ended up as head coach.

Have not had any problems over the last two weeks with that site Carocanesfan. I also use Macafee.

That actually would be Coach Shanahan if its a 6/10 season... Or if we're lucky Coach Cower....
But I think (maybe it's just a hope) that Jzorn will pull it off this year...

Barno,
I think we will be much improved over last year. If I just look at the team through rose colored glasses, I see what you see.
Defense: Will have big play potential it didn't have last year and be ranked in the top ten (probably not as high as fourth).
Offense: Improved over last year, much more versatile attack, but will still be inconsistent and occasionally stall at inopportune times. An above average unit with room for improvement.
Teams: More consistent kicking and punting game, but in other ways Teams will continue to look like the pre-season unit well into the regular season.
Bottom line: 10 wins. We will earn a little respect and a shot at the playoffs, where anything could happen. In one more year we will be a force with which to be reckoned.
So let's self-medicate. Cheers!

I think perhaps Zorn not playing the starters in this game, using it to "weed out" the backups and special team types could prove to be his undoing. Guess that's how coaches live and learn.

Darrel Young...nice opening KO tackle. Too bad Kenny Albert doesn't know enough to announce key things like the name of the guy on the bubble who just made a play.

Well, I'm a little perturbed. I added the sports package on DirecTV yesterday, primarily to get Comcast SportsNet Washington. I watched Washington Post Live today, and then it was time for Redskins Nation...which was blacked out. Then the pregame show was blacked out. And, of course, the game is blacked out.
DTV says there's nothing they can do, which I guess is true. What kind of asinine broadcast rules are these? I'm going to inquire of the league and see if they'll explain their reasoning.
So I'm stuck watching the game online, something I thought I was through doing now that I have DTV & Sunday Ticket.
If I were to cancel the sports package within 30 days of signing up, it would actually cost more than keeping it, so I'll keep it for a month and see if there are any redeeming qualities. Hopefully I can get some Virginia games out of it.

Last year the O-line opened great holes in the running game, but couldn't give JC two seconds to throw.
This year, so far, they're giving JC loads of time, but opening no holes for the RBs...

AGNONE and ALRIDGE just played themselves off this team. Nothing "special" about DANO's teams so far. That last punt, not a white jersey within 15 yards of the punt returner. Stinker-o-o!!!! I see SMITH is still missing K. CAMPBELL and JAMES THRASH.
