Quick hits: Injuries, 'MNF' sightings (updated)

Cornerback DeAngelo Hall (knee) sat out practice. ... Running back Clinton Portis (ankle) participated in practice and defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth (ankle) was limited. All three are expected to play Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles at FedEx Field.

As is typical on the weekend before a "Monday Night Football" game in the home team's city, the broadcasting crew, including Jon Gruden, Mike Tirico, Ron Jaworski and Suzy Kolber, was at Redskins Park. There were several warm greetings between Gruden and coaches, Rick Maese tweets.

Well, of course. They're all in the same fraternity. They have secret grips and special sequences of words they say to each other. As a league-source, I can tell you some of those words: "Hey!" "Good to see you again!" and the always-in-fashion, "What's up?"

Did Gruden check whether they were keeping the HC seat properly warmed for him?

Joe T. said it, and he was right. The Redskins can't block anybody. Ladell Betts should be ashamed to pick up his paycheck. My heart still wants to believe, by my head says there will be no Monday night miracle. Philly 34-Wash 6.

Hope is not a strategy. This team struggled to score any points against the worst teams in the league... I have no idea how the Skins will score even 6 against the Beagles, outside of dumb luck.

Zorn's on the hot seat. Gruden's trying to avoid it.

By the way, with Vinny's apparent focus on one team unit at a time (WR's in 2008, D-line this year), why isn't Dan - who must have a reasonably adequate IQ - wondering why his VP of Football Operations can't multi-task, can't parallel process?

Are you simply unable to think about more than one thing at a time Vinny? Did you point that out in the job interview? Well that would require problem recognition first, not to mention intellectual integrity. Of course maybe there wasn't an interview...

Best case scenario front office and coaching staff 2010-2011

HC John Gruden
GM Anybody but Vinny
Ass'ts: Chucky's choice

I certainly don't know if that's best case, but I'd take it (I'd prefer Cowher, but can't see him coming here). For GM, I'd take Holmgren, even Casserly, or even Bill Polian's son as Wilbon recently suggested... like you said, anyone (legit) but not Vinster. And for D-coord, if Blache retires/quits, we have to get somebody great... and it's such a pity we don't have Grilliams anymore. The attacking style of Grilliams or LeBeau is the way to go.

And then send Snyder to a yurt in Mongolia (without a sat phone), as 44 said...

Let's play "what if"?

What if adjusting the receiver routes (what Sherm is working on) makes guys like Kelly and DT more effective? And we sustain more drives instead of 3 and punt?

What if the D continues to hold teams to 17 points or less? And creates some short fields for us through pressure and turn-overs?

What if we score 10 MORE points a game than we have all season? (we leave points on the field all the time...)

None of these scenarios are miraculous. They require better execution. But what if?

We start winning some ball games. (it's all I have to cling to...)

Can somebody get word to Blache that we need to blitz blitz blitz blitz blitzzzzzzzzzzzz? And blitz some more?

You aren't going to cover these guys and McNabb will pick us apart.

Hmm Portis is hurt? Now that's Odd. I could have sworn that he was inside of club Love shaking his ass for Howard homecoming with Santana. I'm pretty certain his forearm isn't hurting from holding up those champagne bottles. The funny thing is, a fan approached him while he was walking in the crowd and mention "THIS IS WHY WE ARE LOSING THE REDSKINS ARE ALWAYS IN THE CLUB" isn't that the truth.

I hope that the Monday Night Football crew will do a highlight film of Albert Haynesworth flopping on the ground during the games this season. I think it would be great to highlight the Detroit game where they brought out the cart and transported him to the locker room. Then you can show him coming back into the game and the coaches reporting that he had a pulled butt. The Monday Night Football crew can report that Albert makes 100 million but does not have to train or practice. They can show this weeks practice in which Albert and Clinton sit out again and miss practice. Then cut to explanation about how the players are not executing. I would like them to run the clip of the Rams lineman predicting that Albert would flop in the game and then Albert flopped like he was shot. Not just once but in every game but one. Maybe they can show a profile of him standing on the side line panting like a heart patient trying to overcome the fact that he is gassed. Then show the other team running through the Redskins defense like nothing because 100 million is on the sideline trying to win an academy award. Then they can answer the question --what is wrong with the Redskins? Why cant the Redskins execute?
