Redskins' Inactives in Detroit (Updated)
Kevin Barnes, D'Anthony Batiste, Robert Henson, Marcus Mason, Marko Mitchell, Anthony Montgomery, Edwin Williams and Renaldo Wynn are inactive for today's game against the Lions in Detroit.
And, in case you missed it on twitter, Tom Cruise is on the field. Dan Steinberg, at the bog, has some photographic evidence.

Once again I have to question Zorn's use of personnel. Hopefully his game plan, play calling and in-game adjustment is better the the above decision.

Posted by: jm220 | September 27, 2009 11:56 AM | Report abuse
Mason and Rock both could be on their way out if Alridge has a good game. Certainly Mason, Rock probably gets through the season no matter what.

I respectfully disagree with the mayor about whether it makes sense to fire JZ if we lose to the Lions.
Sure, it's a panicky move, but so what? Sometimes panic (which is to say, urgent and hasty action) is sensible.
And the real point is that it gives Blache a shot at the HC job. There's no other way he gets a toe in the water. This would give him 13 weeks to show what he can do. If we really do have good pieces in place, but need leadership, then why not give him a shot?
And, to totally throw things upside down, why not ask JZ to remain as playcaller? So what if it's a demotion? He'd probably say no, but no harm in asking. He was pretty innovative last year before he got sucked into the vortex of leadership.

Repost from previous thread
"Said cornerback DeAngelo Hall: "That's probably the topic of the week - not being that team [to lose to Detroit]."
That's bad. That means they think it can happen. They should be focussed on perfect execution and breaking through in the redzone. Look up, not down. Otherwise, you fill your head with the wrong thoughts and get distracted. Playing not to lose always sucks.

Farstriker, aren't you sick of the instability? Remember what a train wreck the last coaching search was? Isn't the biggest problem with the front office the fact that they are too impatient?
Fire the coach after game 3? That's just stupid. How about getting behind and pushing a little instead?
We have three young receivers that are going to grow tremendously this year as the season goes on. Our head coach has barely a year of experience as coach and play caller. It is reasonable to think he could grow as well. Perhaps a little support for your team will help that process along.
You are as bad as Snyder.

I am a little concerned about Marko not being active, but I suppose they needed to make room for Aldridge.... What does that say about our gameplan?
I made a comment after week 1 that Portis missed several "cut backs" and did the same last week. Now we know why.

Is he in pads? Active or inactive?
Whether it makes sense to fire Jim Zorn depends upon who you can get to replace him. I wouldn't fire him to elevate anyone who works under. But I would fire him to bring in Mike Shanahan.
Shanahan could be cheap, by the way, since he's already collecting a whopper of a check from Denver. I assume Snyder would only have to top that up with a few mill.
Posted by: talent_evaluator | September 27, 2009 12:12 PM | Report abuse
The only people saying Zorn might be fired is the media, know one inside the park has said anything remotley close to this.
No one has ever been able to tell me what coach Snyder was impatient with, he was stupid with Shott, but he wanted control back thats not impatience.
Peopl saying he was impatient with Norv need to go back and think how bad Norv was, he should of been fired 3 years earlier.

edvar = voice of reason.
5 coaches in 9 years hasn't worked, and people are moaning for a 6th? I've often thought Snyder is too impulsive, but reading RI makes me realize he couldb be much worse.
This team needs stability, not new coaches and QBs every couple of years.

Rams have held Packers to FGs so far today.

WORST team in the NFL. This team couldn't beat a college team. The defense is overrated and second rate. Can't even stay on sides for a snap. Why to let a bad team drive 99 yds. The fact that they are paid for this crap is a total travesty. The coaching is second rate but this is all on the million dollar players who can't execute basic plays. What a joke.

You cant put this on the offense regardless of the 4th down call. This team has spent a ton of money on the D and they have to be the worst team on 3rd down that I have ever seen. You let a rookie QB take it 99 yards? Disgusting

Why are the Lions playing fast and loose yet the Redskins look stiff and jumpy/twitchy? Ugh...
I have prob with that earlier 4th and goal. I don't fault the coach or the playcall for thatone --that's on Portis.

Posted by: SteveMG | September 27, 2009 1:43 PM | Report abuse
Zorn took the penalty because, like far too many of you, he still thinks our defense can make plays.
Trusting your D to not allow the Lions to go 99 yards, and trusting your to to get a 3rd down stop shouldn't be so bad if our D is supposedly so great.

Folks blame the whole thing on Snyder because if he wasn't dysfunctional, we would have a real coach and GM. The deal is that no one wanted to coach here so we were stuck with this rotten Zorn who has never been a head coach in his life. So ask yourself, how can a proud franchise like this not be able to have a decent coach. The answer is Daniel Snyder. Don't put you hard earned money into Snyder's pocket!

He declined the penalty thinking that our very strong defense could hold on 3rd and 13, rather than giving them 3 points, but for whatever reason, they competely let STAFFORD run for the first down.

all those wanting Zorn fired, would you keep Blache? The D looks terrible too. You don't think Zorn rightfully assumed his D couold stop a first down from 3 and forever? I guess Zorn is used to seeing his QB not convert!
Posted by: 1965skinsfan | September 27, 2009 1:46 PM | Report abuse
Zorn's call makes sense if you have a Top 5 D going against a rookie QB on a weak offense.
Unfortunately, the Skins D is failing to the extreme so far this game.
Posted by: Alan4 | September 27, 2009 1:46 PM | Report abuse
It was the wrong call, no matter how good your "D" is. You let them kick the FG (maybe he makes it, maybe not, worse case you're down 3-0).
The Golden Rule: NEVER give ANY offense a second chance to convert a 3rd down.
Posted by: MrRedskin21 | September 27, 2009 1:47 PM | Report abuse
Win or Lose, Jim Zorn deserves to be fired. The Defensive Coordinator is no better either mind you. They got Haynesworth who was supposed to improve the pass rush, and how many sacks the Skins have in 9 quarters so far? ONE...
Skins management have a habit of getting rid of leaders on the team. True, Shawn Springs was injury prone, but do the Skins have a CB on the team now who is effectively the Daryl Green of his time? Shawn Spring was not only that CB plus he was a leader.
Now the Offense sucks and so do the Defense who can't stop anyone.
Just perhaps, the problem is with the decision making by the owner and his cousin Vinny.
As long as Vinny is calling the shots, THIS TEAM IS DOOMED!!
Posted by: JeanJak | September 27, 2009 1:47 PM | Report abuse
Think about from your arm-char headsets perspective, you dopes: We suck at offense, we are great at defensive, ergo, giving them an "easy" 3 is better than making a stop WHEN A 1st DOWN STILL KEEPS THEM 25 YDS FROM THE ENDZONE. With such a great D, you'll basically trying to hold them to 0, on the assumption that they'll have to kick a FG regardless.

I don't have a problem with taking the penalty. When you allegedely have a good Defense you don't want to give the team an easier FG then you have to. This was all about execution. However that being said since you can't fire all the players you may have to do something with the coaches to get this team motivated.

The funny thing is: our O can't run, but fokls here just want to pass pass pass so it shouldn't matter. Even though you glance around the league and in the rezone teams run to score in the redzone.
I'm happy, though, that the blind are finally realizing that our D not getting off the field is part of the problem.
Even if we score on drive 1, it was basically our only drive of the quarter. So at best we are 7-3. Based on what occurred we're 7-7. Quarter over. That's not on the O AT ALL.

The strategy of Offense and Defense sucks.
BeanTownGreg1,
Wherever you at, I hope you realize now when I said this Team was not and still is not in FOOTBALL SHAPE!!!
We do not know who and whats on first. Why, because that comes from serious football training by the whole Team.
Football training weeds out the weak and the ones that think they have already made it but cannot produce anymore.
Being in great year round physical shape means nothing when compared to a Football Team that earns that name from Football training.
You ever wonder why the vets and prima donna's don't like preseason and camp? Cause it is hard and once you go through it your body gets transformed to a football player, not the ones that too many of these Redskins are.
The Redskins haven't trained hard in camp and preseason in years. If they had a lot of these names that we have seen on the field for years now would not be here.
BeanTownGreg1, I told you this once before and I know what I am talking about.
All this scheming crap and WCO don't mean crap if you ain't got Football Players like LA was.
Yeah, years ago we decided we did not need real Football Players like BMitch, but we wanted players that fit into schemes.
Hell, we can fit all these bloggers into a scheme, but when we meet a real Football Team, Katie Bar The Door.
Charlie Casserly was a scheme guy, Bobby Mitchell was a Football guy. Worst mistake this Franchise made was making CC the GM instead of Mitchell and we haven't recovered yet.

I don't understand why Marko is not active. Zorn need to use this guy in the red zone. Mason maybe gone if AA have a good game.
