Redskins prepare for Vick, Wildcat formation

The Redskins will face quarterback Michael Vick for the first time since his reinstatement when they play host to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, and they have prepared to try to stop him in the Wildcat formation.

"To me, I think when you look at him, he's getting back" to being the force he once was, secondary coach Jerry Gray said. "When you look at a guy who's kind of been away from football, and he gets seven or eight plays, you really can't get in detail what he's really good at it."

To this point, Philadelphia has used Vick sparingly. In three games, he has attempted only five passes, completing one for one yard. He rushed six times for 13 yards (a 2.2-yard average). Cornerback Byron Westbrook has played the role of Vick on Washington's scout team this week.

In 2006 with the Atlanta Falcons - Vick's last season - he passed for almost 2,500 yards and rushed for more than 1,000. He still possesses the skills to be a threat, Gray said.

"The more plays he plays, the better he's going to get," Gray said. "The old Michael Vick will come back."

Or when he is being shoved like a "rag doll" to Randle-El by the opponent and contributing to the losing.

DeSean Jackson is going to catch several punts at or near the 50 yard line.

At the half, once again:

SELL THE TEAM

I said this over a week ago, that if Snyder is smart I would bring in Tony Dungy as head of personel/GM to oversee a complete overhaul of this team let Dungy hire the coach and plan the draft, send Vinny packing or let him chauffer the danny around town but get rid of him as soon as possible, the big mistake was made when they let for whatever stupid reason Greg Williams walk, listen i was not a big Greg Williams fan but i know one thing he has forgotten more football than Zorn,Cerrato, and Snyder put together will ever know.Greg Williams had the players respect and at least their would have been some sort of continuity from the Gibbs2 transition but Snyder listened to Cerrato big mistake(ya think?)so here we are the laughing stock of pro football, man this is pure hell!

That said, how sweet it would be to pull out some BS fluke win.

Is there any worse fan than an Eagles fan?

Posted by: BrooklynSkins | October 24, 2009 11:05 AM | Report abuse

Stop with the Greg Williams talk...he's the same guy the players called "arrogant" and thinks he's "smarter than everyone else".

Did yal'll forget?

8) Derrick Dockery [Yes-starter]
9) Casey Rabach [No/Maybe- Not if Montgomery or Williams progress]
10) Mike Williams [Maybe as depth]
11) Levi Jones [Too soon to tell]
12) Santana Moss [Yes]
13) ARE [NO- Trade for anything]
14) Devin Thomas [NO- trade or cut]

17) Will Montgomery [Yes]
18) Marko Mitchell [Yes]
19) Fred Davis [NO- Tade for any offer in excess of a bag of clean (not even NEW, just clean) socks]

Off-season focus needs to be two fold.

1) Hire new Pres of Football Operations [PFO]. Hand all team staffing assessment duties to that position. PFO hires GM, GM hires coach.

2) Review of roster and carve out all the aging and overpaid players we can to make the team better fit the new direction mapped out by PFO/GM/Coach.

Pretty simple when you look at it.

New direction should basically be, get younger, build long term over short term for about 2 seasons.

Should be able to be legitimately competitive by year 2-3.

Meanwhile the Eagles are preparing for Washington's Polecat offense.

Seriously? The defense is THAT concerned about a guy that has had 11 plays drawn up for him so far this season? How about focusing more on what the Raiders did to pressure McNabb than worrying about the guy who has just a few more passing/rushings yards this season than I do. Find ways to force McNabb into making bad decisions so the offense can get itself in range for enough field goals to actually make this a game. I'd rather risk losing to Vick's legs than I would McNabb's arm because McNabb is a hundred times more lethal.

All of us watching the game needs to take out a sheet of paper and draw a 5 x 5 grid on it for an entertaining game of Clusterfudge Bingo. Fill in the spaces in the grid with the following events:
1) delay of game
2) Zorn clock mismanagement
3) blown timeout
4) Desean Jackson makes 1 play better than any ever seen by Fred Davis, Malcolm Kelly or Devin Thomas
5) Anti-Danny chant audible over TV coverage
6) Jaworski rips Danny a new one
7) Camera pans to shot of Burgundy Revolution sign in crowd
8) Redskins Field Goal
9) Campbell Sack
10) Collins Sack
11) Heyer pancaked like Mrs. Butterworth
12) "once-proud franchise"
13) Vick plays 2nd half
14) Shot of frowning Danny in suite
15) Shot of confused Sherm Lewis, rifling through playbook to get the verbiage right
16) SHot of Zorn on sideline, updating Twitter feed, texting dinner plans to Largent, making sure the Gatorade cups on sideline filled neither too high nor too low, but, indeed, medium
17) shot of upside-down Skins flag
18) shot of fan in paper bag
19) Jon Gruden staying suspiciously vanilla with criticism -- in HD viewers can see the faint outline of dollar signs in his eyes
20) reference to "suing fans"
21) Skins record for the decade o' Danny cited
22) Eagles 20-point lead
23) McNabb high-fiving on the sidelines after TD
24) Pass thrown one yard short of yardage needed for 1st
25) that certain sinking feeling feeling you out again

My answers:

1) Jason Campbell

Trade him. Get whatever you can for him.

2) Todd Collins

Keep him as a backup or starter.
3) Clinton Portis

GET RID OF HIM!!!!!! He brings nothing to the team except trouble and discord. He is a toxic influence on the team. He is a selfish player who just isn't performing for the salary that the team is paying him. He undermines the coach. I would trade him for whatever picks I could get, salary cap be damned.

4) Ladell Betts

I might keep him. It depends. I could go either way.

5) Rock Cartwright

Tough one, but I would trade him for whatever picks he would bring.

6) Chris Cooley

Keep him. He's one part--perhaps the only part of the Redskins offense--that works.

7) Stephon Heyer

Keep him.

8) Derrick Dockery

Keep him.

9) Casey Rabach

Keep him.

10) Mike Williams

Maybe, but I am leaning toward keeping him.

11) Levi Jones

Too early to tell.

12) Santana Moss

It depends on what picks trading him would bring in. I would keep him if the team can't find a decent enough trade.

13) ARE

Trade him.

14) Devin Thomas

Trade for whatever they can get unless he suddenly ramps up his performance down the stretch.

15) Malcolm Kelly

See what I said above for Devin Thomas.

16) Chad Rinehart

Trade him for whatever pick they can get.

17) Will Montgomery

Too early to tell.

18) Marko Mitchell

Too early to tell.

19) Fred Davis

Trade him.
