So far, so good on play-calling relays

Play-caller Sherman Lewis and offensive coordinator Sherman Smith performed well while practicing the Redskins' new play-calling procedure Saturday, Coach Jim Zorn said.

"I think it went fine," Zorn said. "They're both experienced coaches. They've got a system worked out. They've been communicating very well. We used it electronically in practice [Friday]; we used it verbally in practice [Saturday].

"Will there be glitches? There might be a couple, but there won't be that many. I think these guys will work it out, and we'll work it out between series. If we ever have one problem, we'll address that problem and work it out. Right now, in my foretelling, it looks pretty good."

Lewis, who will sit in the coaches' box, will tell Smith the play-call, and Smith will relay the play from the sideline to quarterback Jason Campbell. Although the practice runs went smoothly, the Redskins, obviously, cannot simulate the speed of game conditions, Zorn said. The procedure will get its first test on "Monday Night Football."

"It was probably slower than it's going to be," Zorn said. "In the game, everything is speeded up a little bit."

So I'm wondering, IF the Skins pick a QB in round 1 next Spring (and that certainly may happen, whether it makes sense or not), how will/can we re-build the O-line in the same offseason, if possible? Assuming we have high draft picks, as least our # 2 could be a strong OT prospect, but we need much more than one guy... Where can I find a list of "end of 2009 season UFA" OL guys online? Anyone? Bueller?

Chasgiffen: The only way to do it is to trade future draft picks or to trade down and pick up another 1st round pick. So then you take a qb and a lineman late in the 1st.

I think we need to build the oline next year. Get the best you can and forget taking a qb. Campbell's a decent qb for a rebuilding team.
