Suisham adds kick to Redskins-Cowboys rivalry

Place kicker Shaun Suisham will play in the Redskins' final game this season at FedEx Field after all.

Released the day after missing a chip-shot field goal in the Dec. 6 overtime loss to the New Orleans Saints, Suisham was signed Monday by the Dallas Cowboys, who face the Redskins on Sunday.

"It's a really good feeling to have the Cowboys believe in me the way they do," Suisham said in a phone interview before the New York Giants routed the Redskins, 45-12. "They think I can come in and help them win some games, so that's what I'm going to try to do. The last couple of weeks have been tough, but I'm really happy to have this opportunity now."

Suisham's arrival adds a twist to the Redskins-Cowboys rivalry. "Yeah, it certainly adds another dimension to the mix," he said "When you've spent parts of four seasons with guys, you develop relationships and I have a lot of friends [with the Redskins]. But I'm a professional. When we step on the field, I'm going to go out there to do my job the best I can. That'll be my focus."

A rivalry in name only.

Anyone know what Hall and Zorn were yelling at each other about?

This team is fractured.

Posted by: Chia_Pet | December 22, 2009 2:29 AM | Report abuse

Did we win? LOL

Who cares about Suisham adding to the rivalry..its not like he's a battle scarred QB or a 10 time pro bowl RB who was cut. He's a freakin FG kicker, stop making him out to be more the what he is.
I sure am glad I stopped watching the Skins game early in the second quarter, or I might of ended up like most of the posters on here: angry and going for each other's throat

Suisham's a chump, choke loser. Glad he's gone. Gano may be worse.

I have to say, I'm really not worried about it. I would not be at all surprised to see Suisham miss half his attempts in that game.
No hard feelings.

Who cares about Suisham? He can shank all the damn field goals he wants.

I'm focused on 2010.

Chia! Yes unfortunately you are the Roddick in this equation.

Suisham will kick the game winner from 52 yards away with :02 left in the game.

Jerry Jones is every bit the clown Snyder is for picking up Suisham...you replace a guy who missed a chip shot FG against New Orleans with the game on the line with a guy who--that's right--missed a chip shot FG against New Orleans with the game on the line. Let me know how that works for ya, Cowdungs.

In more pressing matters, that massive brain fart Zorn had at the end of the 1st half led me to believe he was aiming to become the first coach in NFL history to get fired at halftime. Unfortunately, that endeavor is just one of a long list of his failures here. Hopefully, that'll be the end of the "let's keep Zorn" movement we've seen up here in recent days.

Posted by: brownwood26 | December 22, 2009 5:54 AM | Report abuse

All the keep Zorn people can stay off the blog today, well at least this will show Bruce Allen how important it will be to draft o-line and a speed back.

Moss with the spin of the ball down 24 points in a two minute drill, made me want to throw up. What a way to make yourself look like a total A-hole, these players have no disipline and BA should look to get rid of most of the vets.

LL is the worst tackler in the league, he is no better at SS then he was at FS what a waste of a top 10 draft pick.

And WOW to Haynesworth's comments about his role and his obvious regret in signing here. Yeah, he's been a real impact player alright...a negative one!

One other thing that was nice was to see the GM not having his face up Snyder a$$ at the game. He also did a great interview, something that Vinny couldn't do.

AH is right in one sense this defense is not well coached they make the same mistakes week after week.

They never go after the QB on 3rd down they sit back in that zone and get picked apart.

100% agree, Flounder. That's why the only guy on this current roster I'd call untouchable is Cooley, and even he looks expendable with Fred Davis stepping up. BA's first order of business should be to get Moss and Portis outta here and get as much O-line help as possible. It's incredulous that a struggling Giants team comes in OUR house and dominates like that. I'd have fired that whole team at halftime and got some fans in there for the 2nd half...couldn't have played any worse and it would have at least made the trip worthwhile for the poor souls who dug themselves out of two feet of snow for that obviously half-assed performance.

Let's just hope this was them saving themselves for Dallas...

True. It was also nice to see a GM that doesn't have bug eyes so big that he appears to be in a constant state of surprise. Unlike Vinny, BA actually looks like he could contribute to society in a role other than Snyder's butt buddy.

Not only did the team and the refs suck last night, but so did the bloggers. Cindy didn't use a single one of our quotes, or even a poll, in today's print edition.

I think the WaPo may be short on money and couldn't afford to mail out the $100 checks for using our quotes because there was some pretty good stuff up here last night: "Zorn, you suck." "Vinny, you suck." "Dan, you suck." "JC, you suck." More sucking than in a vacuum cleaner show room.

Remember the article in yesterday's print edition where Jaws talked about how good the Redskins are? I keep coming back to the final words:

For the most part, he sees a team with Pro Bowl effort across the board and Pop Warner talent where it hurts most. "It's a beat-up bunch, a replacement team," he said. "But I'll give everyone on the coaching staff credit: they're playing hard."

Now, compare that to the laughter in the booth last night at the Redskins inept performance. "Pro Bowl effort"? Credit for the coaching staff? Only one who deserves any credit is Bruce Allen for at least looking like a General Manager. Now get to work, big guy.

QB Comparisons as of 12/22/09:
Campbell 87.0Rtg; 18TD; 11INT
Cutler 71Rtg; 19TD; 25INT
Sanchez 62.3Rtg; 12TD; 20INT

A fair assessment.

The team did play hard--for about a month.

But sometimes you are what you are.

The playoff hungry jints showed up and reminded us all of the problems the close losses hid: the 2009 Washington Redskins are just a bad football team.

And the cowboys are coming to town with just as much determination to make the playoffs as the giants put on display last night.

The offseason can't get here fast enough.

We are still talking about the Fing kicker?

Finally nice to see more peeps on the Anti-Moss band wagon. I am on the trade em for picks wagon, we got plenty of seats, so hop on when ready.

LaRon=BUST! I saw him try to make a tackle on someone and wrap up... now I know why he just spears himself at everyone all the time, the guy has no skill what so ever in wrapping up (thats what she said).

Good news about this game was that if Bruce is half the football man his father was he could see the problem. BTW half a George Allen would probably be 5-10 times the football mind that I or any of us on the blog are, lucky thing is this game showed exactly where the holes in the Redskins are.

QB's may as well throw from on their backs, save the other teams pass rush the time.
No solid Running Back, worst running core I have seen in 15 years.
We need a OLB who can show up more then RMac and KpO do, though not their fault we just need a 2nd OLB to unleash hell.
We need a all new secondary, except at the strong safety spot.

Thats 8 starters (roughly) that we need, oh and probably close to another 10 solid football players to backup.

Now that Suisham's kicking for the Cowboys...does he get credit for the "game winner" in the first Redskin/Cowboy game this year???

Posted by: sanantonioredskin | December 22, 2009 9:10 AM | Report abuse

this might be worthy of a mention in the upcoming dallas week...if the game were to be decided by a FG or less.

after the performance last night, i'm sure it won't be anywhere in the ball park. though, suisham will have plenty of chances to "do over" the 23-yd miss from the NO game...in the form of PATs for the Cowboys...

embarrassing.

I'm happy for him and really don't think he should have been cut. In fact, her should have taken Campbell's cajun country fried bama as...BUTT with him since he had to go...the man made a TD for crying out loud. where they do that at?

Seriously? He is a kicker, no one on the Redskins roster can probably pick him out of a lineup.

J. Reid loves Suisham's ummm. Your just not right J. Reid, just let it go, you look like a fool !

At least we can count on Cooley and Fletcher. London is one of a kind!
Meangelo was laughed out of Atlanta and we can see why. Most of his interceptions were
gimme's.
Shanahan would be great!
A new QB would help as would getting rid of Moss and Randle El.
