An Unexpected Bit of Time Off

The Redskins finished the day with position group meetings after the afternoon session was canceled because of rain and thunderstorms.

They've only had three practices, so I really don't have a feel for how the team is developing. There have been no significant injuries to this point, which is just the way Coach Jim Zorn likes it after defensive end Phillip Daniels suffered a season-ending knee injury on the first day of the 2008 camp.

"Everybody's just working real hard and trying to get ready," quarterback Jason Campbell said. "It's all about taking steps as part of a process to have the best season we can. We want to get to that next level, so now is the time you have to start."

Saturday's schedule at Redskins Park calls for an 8:30 a.m. public practice and a 2 p.m. practice for special teams only.

...

The NFL Network will be available in more homes on Comcast as the result of a long-term agreement reached in May. The NFL Network will televise Washington's preseason game Aug. 22 against the Pittsburgh Steelers at FedEx Field.

...

I appreciate the congratulatory e-mail I've received from many of you since I moved to Redskins Insider on a full-time basis. I've been a little busy and haven't had the chance to write, but the kind words mean a lot.

Great work up here thus far, Your Honor. I hope the Skins' little break means you guys get a little bit of a breather.

We ain't got no beefs.

There's enough posts here to feed any skins' fan, and since it's delivered without bias, it's all good.

Two minutes reading in the redskins.com team blog was enough to prove you got the right tone and approach to this thing.

"The Seahawks kinda need a new QB."

Whatever is wrong with Matt Hasselback is not going to be cured by adding Vick.

Seneca Wallace is a Vick-type player: why have two?

Folks are overstating Vick's importance.

If the pats of Belichek want him, he'll go there and fit in nicely.

Otherwise, he should go to Canada, get some exposure/game tape, and try to make an NFL team during the next off season.

Posted by: MistaMoe | July 31, 2009 5:58 PM | Report abuse

Oh I don't think Vick is important at all. He was a subpar passing QB but broke teams down with his legs. He's far and away a better player than Seneca Wallace could hope to be,

I somewhat agree with you though Moe. I think he should UFL it and shut his yap. I agree that Vick won't replace what ails Hasselbeck. I'm just stating that Seattle could use a new QB. Personally I don't think Vick is that guy but apparently some people inside the Seahawk organization thinks he might be. That's the rumor anyway.

Imagine if the 'hawks cut or let Matt Hassleback go because Jim Mora, jr. has no faith in him.

Where do you think he'll wind up? (hint--his former q-back coach now works in Asburn, Va.)

Hassleback v. Campbell: given our FO desire to replace #17, Hassleback and his super bowl resume might be a logical fit as he wouldn't have to learn the offense.

But, on the eve of camp, this is all fantasy.

What a nightmare that would be. We already had his little brother here. That worked out well. Timmy Hasselbeck, we hardly knew ye.

scamp, t_e, I heard the same thing on the radio, citing this post from former Redskin mediocre (as opposed to former Redskin great) Matt Bowen:

Posted by: NateinthePDX | July 31, 2009 6:40 PM | Report abuse

Adding Matt Hassleback, a nightmare?

Hassleback's 2006 Super Bowl Year Numbers:

65.5 3,459 7.7 24 9 24 154 98.2 36 124 3.4 1 4 2

Jason Campbell's 2008 Non-Playoff Numbers:

62.3 3,245 6.4 13 6 38 266 84.3 47 258 5.5 1 7 1

Seen from this perspective, the Pro Bowl Super Bowl quarterback Hassleback and non-playoff Campbell are sorta kinda even.

The difference?: Hassleback's completion and touchdown numbers indicate where Jason Campbell's (24 v. 13) improvement must be this season.

This little article tidbit refutes that statemnt:

The idea that Michael Vick could land in Seattle has been mentioned to me by multiple league sources over the past couple of days.

AP
Mora's Seahawks could be Vick's next stop
From what I’ve heard, new Seahawks head coach Jim Mora had a great relationship with Vick while the two were in Atlanta — despite the negative reports circulating through the rumor mill right now — and that he actually “cares” about the former Falcon and his future. I’ve also been told that, from a public relations standpoint, Seattle would offer Vick some protection from the media since it isn’t a city that draws the kind of overwhelming national attention as a Dallas or a Pittsburgh.

I'd also like to know if how Kareem Moore is doing. I heard he can play FS really well and that would provide opportunities for Landry to play a few snaps at SS. Landry is an excellent blitzer!

Mora Jr. is an idiot and a terrible hire for Seattle I think. He ruined a relatively solid team although I've never been even pretend fan of Atlanta. . . on the other hand I could be really wrong as I have been many times before.

Vick in Seattle or San Francisco will certainly create hilarious PETA protests outside the stadiums. SF has potentially the most pitiful QB situation in the league but I'm not sure they want to take on the loony lefties out here especially from the People's Republic of Berkely.

Can someone please tell CNN that we've all moved on from Mr. Jackson's death and so should they.

Huh? You think that is easy? Try getting into a regular season game for only the price of your average "quarter-pounder" meal from 'Wac Arnolds' and you're just touching the tip of the iceberg, so to speak!

Vinnie: go get the OL Brian Waters from the KC Chiefs, he is still unhappy and wants to be traded. See if they will take Collins, ARE, Sellers or even Cooley. The Skins are still desperately in need of at least two starting OLinemen. They are rapidly approaching having a squad entirely composed of quality backup OL.

This is ridiculous.

1. Mora was no phan of Vick when the two were in Atlantis.
2. Seattle plays WCO, not one of Vick's specialties.
3.Seattle is not hurting for a QB, at least not now. Hassel was injured last year but is supposed to have recovered and the hawks could have drafted Sanchez if they thought they need shoring up at QB.
4. Being in Dallas might attract national media attention but certainty not Pitts. The only thing Vick would attract there is river flies.

I think you fabricated this AP "quote".
